Never One Without the Other - (Kancolle RPG) (No longer recruiting!)

I was originally thinking of an aircraft carrier, but Nabob and Puncher were both technically Royal Navy (British) rather than RCN, and the other options were all post-WW2.

Yep, didn't deserve to be scrapped like that. For only $100,000 or so as well.
She didn't - though the Italian navy in the 70s wasn't in the economical conditions to keep a museum ship around no matter how much they liked her (and they did! They renewed the leasing three times!). Better communication between Italy and the USA could have led to her becoming a museum ship and the fact it didn't happen is a shame.

Gonna be fully honest, I was not expecting this kind of diversity in the ships we got. I was expecting mostly Yanks, Brits, and Japanese, but current tally is at: 2 Yanks, 2 Japanese, 1 Brit, 1 Canuck, 1 Italian, 1 Spaniard, 1 Dutch, and 1 Pole. I'm impressed!
Oh dear, I played into your expectations :V

Make her German too since we're missing one lmao, Graf Zeppelin anyone?
Graf actually wouldn't work in this setting, as she was never completed. I've mentioned this to a couple people when asked in private, but paper ships and incomplete ships aren't allowed, as they never had proper crews.

I actually had a thought about this, would Jean Bart be a valid option for this game then? Because Jean Bart was technically started before WW2 and she was finished but she was finished after the war in 55.

You can pretty much always expect me to play pasta ships or some smaller navy. I just like playing as the underdogs XD

Jean Bart is a valid option, as even incomplete, she saw active duty service and fought. That said, I'm not confident in my ruling on her, because her WW2 loadout would end up giving you an incomplete shipgirl and probably a crippled woman in some manner, and I wouldn't want to force something like that upon a player.

"Mon dieu, you try fighting with just an arm!"

Heh, then there would be the extreme case of Giulio Germanico, a Capitani Romani class ship that fought the Germans while still stuck at its moorings under final fitting out, was scuttled, then raised, refitted and served post war.

Talk about a zombie kanmusu.

…well, at least it's not Zubian.

Edit: haha I double checked she was scuttled by the germans but stayed half-afloat regardless. Good ship.

U-480
Due to being very fitting for the RP, being less-known than HMS Queen Elizabeth, and me not playing as submarines often, I'll go with U-480 instead of QE.

Ship name: U-480
Ship class: Type VIIC U-boat, experimental stealth variant

Ship history:
  • Commissioned on October 6, 1943, she was sent to patrol the heavily-guarded English Channel, taking advantage of her Alberich rubber coating to sail more quietly than most. Throughout her service life, consisting of three war patrols, she was never detected by sonar.
  • On her first patrol, she was attacked by a Canadian PBY Catalina flying boat, which she shot down afterwards.
  • On her second patrol, she departed from Brest, France, and managed to sink four ships: a Canadian Flower-class corvette named HMCS Alberni, a British Algerine-class minesweeper named HMS Loyalty, and two merchantmen named Fort Yale and Orminister. Her captain was awarded the Knight's Cross for it.
  • On her third patrol, she left her port at Trondheim, Norway… and never came back. It was only decades after the war that her wreck was accidentally discovered by divers. It turned out that she ran afoul of a secret minefield named "Brazier D2", which damaged her stern and sank her, killing all of her onboard crew. The only survivor was her helmsman, who had been left behind at Norway for training.

Civilian name: Averie Kiel
Civilian occupation: Private investigator
Appearance:

Personality:
  • Cool, calm and collected, with nerves of steel, she thrives under stress and is difficult to fluster, a natural consequence of conducting her war patrols in the highly dangerous and heavily guarded English Channel.
  • A bit of a thrill-seeker, she finds joy in pursuing challenges, be they intellectual or physical, and succeeding in them, improving herself in the process. Her career as a U-boat was highly risky by nature, yet it was rewarding, sudden minefield notwithstanding.
  • Through her recent experiences as a shipgirl, she finds herself to be quite open-minded, inquisitive, observant, and logical-minded, all traits that a detective would need in their work. Even before, her perceptive sight and hearing were invaluable in her missions as a submarine. The one time they failed her, it was with fatal results.
  • Very quiet by nature, she rarely speaks unless it's necessary, and even then, she tries to keep it as briefly as possible. Sometimes she just taps on a surface to say what she means in Morse.
  • Her very movements are quiet and sneaky, much like a stealthy submarine on the prowl. Her footsteps are light, hardly making noise. She has a habit of checking her surroundings and making herself as discreet as possible wherever she goes. During her time as a shipgirl, she has a tendency to surprise others with her sudden arrivals and departures.
  • She's afraid of mines and sudden explosions, a consequence of meeting her end in such a manner. She can try to pretend to be unflappable, but those are her weaknesses on that front.
  • She also doesn't do well with loud noises, since in her experience, it usually means she could end up killed by enemies who sense her.
  • Introverted by nature, she's most comfortable being by herself, and finds it exhausting to be with others. Social occasions are among her worst nightmares.
  • Soft, kind, gentle and patient, she's respectful to others and treats them politely. It takes a lot to get on her bad side.

Shipgirl Backstory:
  • Like the other shipgirls, she was ready to set sail once more to fight for her country… only to find no Abyssals to greet her. She was kept on alert just in case, but they seemed to be even more ghostly than she was, for she felt their presence here and there every now and then, but nothing came of them.
  • In between military drills, she did her own discreet investigation, studying forensics, interviewing witnesses, doing research, and examining scenes where they supposedly appeared, but she had nothing to show for them, only rumors and dead ends. The navy, it seemed, was clueless, and while there were other shipgirls who felt the same, there was no concrete proof to be found.
  • She also noticed that for one reason or another, the navy was in a hurry to get shipgirls like herself into civilian lives, and inquiries from herself and others, about returning to military service, were met with denials. Was it out of giving them a chance to live peaceful lives? Was it because they didn't have much to contribute in comparison to their modern counterparts? Was it in relation to the occasional Abyssal presence she felt? Or was it something else? She had made inquiries, but they didn't go far.
  • Along the way, she realized that she could apply her experiences, skills and knowledge, old and new alike, in everyday life as an investigator. The Abyssal case had gone cold, but while she followed up on that, she could serve her nation by solving other cases, by helping people and stopping criminals. As such, she opened her own private practice, adopting a stylized submarine periscope, pictured above, as her logo.

Notes:
  • She has met shipgirls, soldiers and civilians from other nations, and has apologized to them for Germany's actions during the war. While she herself considers her naval career to have been for the Fatherland rather than for the Nazis who ruled it, not everyone makes that distinction, and she finds herself feeling guilty for being an instrument of the Nazis. Her career as a shipgirl is her attempt at atonement.
  • She has visited war memorials and Holocaust memorials across Germany, and has donated some of her earnings to their upkeep. Seeing the full extent of her own country's atrocities was shocking and saddening to her, and she's thankful that her homeland has become better ever since.
  • She has adapted very well to modern technology, and has found it fascinating. For her, it's almost like magic, and she's amazed at how far humanity and Germany have come since the war.
  • She has a bit of a sweet tooth, a perk of her shipgirl form being the enjoyment of actual food and exploring her senses of smell and taste.
  • She enjoys a good drink, alcoholic or otherwise. Her favorite is beer, though she imbibes in moderation.
  • She has a saltwater aquarium at home, complete with corals, and keeps some fish as pets, most notably a pair of clownfishes and a blue tang. For her, it brings good memories of sailing the seas.
  • Her hobbies are parkour, video gaming, swimming, diving, and reading. She loves stealth games and detective stories the most, and has tried her hand at playing Cold Waters, with great success. For her, it's the closest she could get to feeling like a submarine again. As for parkour, it gives her a similar sense of freedom as diving in the sea.
  • She's fond of wearing bodysuits, feeling most comfortable in them. For her, it's like wearing the rubber coating of her steel-hull days.

The one time a new RP comes out, I'm three pages late : (. This looks very interesting considering something I was day-dreaming about some time ago, but the concept I have in mind probably won't work for the setting / time period restrictions. Probably would make it on my own time for fun tbh.

Because of that, I'm considering doing what I do for most games here (unless there's a lot of build time). If there's a reserve for this game? I'll ask for a spot on it as my first move, because I'm not sure if I can do research for a second concept so quickly / build it in time (although I'm thinking about making an escort carrier of some kind)

Thanks and have fun guys. :)

There won't be a reserve, but due to how I'm going to be running the game, there shouldn't be any issues with people joining the game late.

Nautilus
Ship name: USS Nautilus SS-168
Ship class: Narwhal-class submarine
Ship history: Built as part of the fleet boat program she was one of two submarine cruisers built by the US Navy, entering service on July 1st, 1930. While it initially seemed she had little to show for herself during the Battle of Midway aside from being depth charged, the pursing destroyer, Arashi, would eventually lead Enterprise's dive bombers to the Japanese carrier force. Her unwieldy size and handling eventually pushed her out of her intended role as a fleet sub, but her long range found her a new role. Operations deep into Japanese held waters. In this role she would run reconnaissance missions and deploy Marine raiding parties against Japanese held islands such as Makin and Abemama Atolls. And on one of these long range patrols she would sink the destroyer Yamakaze at the entrance to Sagami Bay. During the liberation of the Philippines, she scuttled the grounded USS Darter with gunfire. She ended the war with 14 battle stars and was sold for scrap on November 16, 1945.
Civilian name: Barbara Herman Land
Civilian occupation: Aquarist
Personality: Her easygoing nature means she isn't one to steer the conversation, instead preferring to follow its flow. She typically finds herself able to blend into any group no matter how strong the personalities within may be. Though her aversion to drama means she will step in to mediate at the first sign of friction. While normally she isn't easily flustered, topics of love usually leave her feeling awkward and a bit of a third wheel.

So many subs, kinda glad I didn't go with Sciré or something for my sheet or the party would have been a bit overcrowded lol
