All shipgirls instinctively know their natural enemy, the Abyssals. No matter their fate, sunk, scrapped, preserved as a museum ship, when their spirits are summoned, the shipgirls know of their enemy. Shipgirls began appearing a year ago, in response to the arrival and appearance of the Abyssals, and yet... the hated foe has yet to make an appearance. For a year, the navies of the world supported the shipgirl forces, waiting for the coming blow. But it never came. With no apparent enemies to use them for, the various shipgirl corps were disbanded, the shipgirls demilitarized, and the militaries began helping the displaced shipgirls move towards a civilian life.

But not everyone was so accepting of this peaceful way of life. The Abyss is out there, even if you can't see them. Some of you may be able to feel their presence occasionally in your daily lives as civilians, but no amount of searching ever turns up anything concrete. Enough is enough. The enemy is out there, and if they won't reveal themselves, maybe it's best if you set up a more coordinated search for them...

Hello everyone! It's been a long while since I've done something like this, but I'm trying my hand at running another forum-based RP! And for the first time in years, I'm running a botes game! Haha, botes!

The rules are fairly simple:
Be polite.
Cooperate with your fellow players.
Keep OOC stuff OOC.
No meta gaming.
No god-modding.
The GM has final say.
And most importantly: have fun!

Character requirements: Ships are to have World War 2 era service, or significant inter-war service. Paper ships and ships that were never completed are not allowed.

Character creation:

Ship name:
Ship class:
Ship history:
Civilian name:
Civilian occupation:
Appearance:
Personality:

Ship name: USS Fletcher DD-445
Ship class: Fletcher-class destroyer
Ship history: One of the first Fletchers off the line, Fletcher served at the frontline during the Guadalcanal and Solomons campaigns. From there, she went to a more backline role, providing escort for transports and conducting shore bombardment. She survived the war and was placed in the reserve. She was reclassified as a DDE when she was reactivated around the Korean War, and conducted more fleet support and shore bombardment. Fletcher was finally decommissioned in 1969, and scrapped 3 years later.
Civilian name: Faye Faith Fletcher
Civilian occupation: culinary student
Appearance:
Personality: Fletcher is the typical big sister, especially since she is the big sister of the largest class of warships ever built. She'll often take a leadership role amongst her peers, but is fully willing to step back and let others take charge if they're more capable of the role. She's very supportive of everyone around her, and is quite willing to provide care and comfort to anyone, even if they aren't her sisters.

IC Thread! It's now up!

On consideration, I think I'll go with Aoba instead of Torbay. Really liking the reporter angle she brings.

Canarias
Ship Name: Canarias

Ship class: Canarias Class Heavy Cruiser

Ship history: The name ship of the Canarias class Heavy Cruiser, she and her sister Baleares were launched in 1931 and 32 respectively. Built for Royalist Spain and commissioned by Republican Spain, Canarias saw little service until the Spanish civil war. She became the flagship of the Nationalist navy and saw extensive action, sinking a total of 34 ships over the course of the war. She fought in multiple important engagements, including the Battle of Cape Espartel and the Battle of Cape Machichaco, along with many raiding actions and convoy escorts. She also notably was one of the ships who took part in the search for survivors of the Bismarck after it had been sunk. She continued service as flagship of the Spanish fleet until her decommissioning in 1975 and her scrapping in 1977

Civilian name: Alba Maria Alférez

Civilian occupation: Secretary at a Doctor's Office

Appearance:

Personality: Confident, boisterous, and headstrong are usually the first three words that pop into someone's head when asked to describe Canarias. She's a very proud and very stubborn woman, and if she consider herself someone's protector then by god she's going to make sure their every need and or want is accounted for. Especially overprotective of her little sister Baleares, she will throw herself into just about anything in front of her with a smile and a laugh. To her, being a flagship means being an example to all of those under her command and for her nation as a whole.

Aoba
Ship name: Aoba

Ship class: Aoba-class heavy cruiser

Ship history: The lead ship of her class, Aoba and her sister Kinugasa were laid down in 1924 to form a uniform four-ship division with the Furutaka-class. Her service before World War II was uneventful; upon the outbreak of the war, she was a member of the IJN's "Fire brigade", supporting successive operations against Guam, Wake, Rabaul, Lae and Salamaua, Bougainville, and Port Moresby. Under refit for Midway, she next saw action during the Guadalcanal Campaign, assisting in the stunning victory off Savo Island and then getting shot to pieces at Cape Esperance. After lengthy repairs, she returned to the Solomons, only to be badly damaged again by B-17s. After another lengthy series of repairs, she was shifted to operations out of Singapore, raiding British shipping in the Indian Ocean before shifting to escort duty to New Guinea and the Philippines. It was during these escort runs that she was torpedoed by the submarine USS Bream; she was repaired in the Philippines under intense air attack, making her return to Japan, where she was eventually sunk for good by carrier strikes.

Civilian name: Unno Aoba

Civilian occupation: Journalist

Appearance:

Personality: Confident, outgoing, and enthusiastic, Aoba is a newshound with a nose for a story, sometimes to the exclusion of more important considerations. She has trouble staying idle, and though prone to teasing, is weak in turn to sincere displays of affection.

Abraham Crijnssen
Ship name: Abraham Crijnssen

Ship class: Jan Van Amstel-class Minesweeper

Ship history: Laid down in March of '36. At the outbreak of the war, she was stationed in the Dutch East-Indies. Her most well-known endeavor was during her escape to Australia following the disastrous loss at Java Sea and subsequent Japanese invasion of the DEI, in which she was disguised as island foliage in order to slip past the Japanese while traversing the Indonesia Archipelago. She was subsequently rechristened into the Royal Australian Navy upon her successful arrival and served in anti-submarine patrols until the end of the war. After the war, she sailed anti-revolution patrols until her return to the Netherlands in '56. She would be removed from service in '60 and used as a training ship until her opening as a museum ship in '95.

Civilian name: Angela 'Angie' Crijnssen

Civilian occupation: Nursing Student at Utrecht University w/ a side-job as a bartender

Appearance:

Personality:
Shy, reserved, and not very outgoing, she has a habit of showing up unexpectedly and out of nowhere. She enjoys Frozen (The movie, not the musical), singing, playing the violin, and toying with this one coconut she found and painted a face on during her first trip back to Indonesia, though she rarely expresses it to other people. Despite her outward appearance, her sisters describe her as easygoing in both manners when not in public.

*Thinks*

Hmmmmm, I feel like I probably overused Abe already in RP character sheets.

But at the same time, I don't feel like making new characters for the sake of novelty.

But at the same, same time, new characters mean new ways to play around with the plot as opposed to rehashing old game moves for this current RP

*calculates*

I'll finish my joke draft of USS Oregon, just in case

I'm currently going for either HMS Queen Elizabeth or HMS Warspite.

As for either ship's civilian career, I'm thinking that she's either an entrepreneur whose shipping company is just starting out (having a handful of secondhand cargo ships at most, plus maybe cargo shipgirl employees), or a civil servant working for the UK's Ministry of Defence.

While I won't tell you no for using Abe again, you do use her a lot, and variety is the spice of life. But whatever route you want to go with!

Both options work! For both areas, too!

I feel like it depends on whether or not you wish for the jokes about the Queen's recent demise

Actually, what year does the RP take place?

Also, I was aiming for a homage rather than jokes about the Queen.

Raimondo Montecuccoli
Ship name: RN Raimondo Montecuccoli

Ship class: Montecuccoli-class light cruiser

Ship history: Montecuccoli was laid down in 1931 and commissioned in 1935. At the start of the Spanish Civil War she took part in neutrality patrols before being sent to the far east in 1937, to defend Italian interests in Tientsin during the Second Sino-Japanese War - during the cruise she visited many ports, among which Port Said, Aden, Colombo, Singapore, Sydney and Melbourne. After a long stay in Shangai and several visits to Japanese ports, she left for Italy at the end of 1938.

During the war, she took part into 32 war missions, among which the Battle of Calabria and Operation Harpoon where with fellow light cruiser Eugenio di Savoia she crippled a tanker and a destroyer, damaged another destroyer and a cruiser, and confirmed her reputation for good gunnery by hitting minelayer HMS Hebe at a distance in excess of 23 thousand yards - during the battle she suffered a single hit to the officer wardroom, which killed no one but disfigured her unofficial 'Centum Oculi' motto, striking out the O, confirming the crew-held superstition that the ship was both lucky and haunted. After the Armistice the cruiser took part in many transport missions, whether it be material or former prisoners to repatriate.

Left to Italy by the Allies at the end of the war, she was significantly upgraded and modified to serve as a training ship, and in this capacity she took part in numerous cruises, visiting ports such as Copenaghen, Montréal, Boston, Philadelphia and Helsinki. Between 1956 and 1957 a cruise to Australia for the Melbourne Olympics turned into an impromptu world circumnavigation tour due to the Suez Crisis - in that occasion the ship visited 34 ports and sailed for more than 33 thousand miles. She was decommissioned in 1964, a year after her circumnavigation of Africa, and scrapped in 1972.

Civilian name: Marina "Rina" Montecuccoli

Civilian occupation: Travel Blogger/Influencer

Shipgirl Backstory: Returned from the seas beyond to fight once more, she found the lack of Abyssals puzzling, but not exactly unexpected at first. After all, they must have been lying in wait, ready to strike at any moment. She stayed vigilant, even as she quickly acclimatized herself with the strange new world she now lived in. When it no longer looked like an attack was imminent, she changed approach, joining the Naval Academy as an instructor in order to teach sailors and officers how to best fight the Abyssals - often in the role of aggressor ship during training exercises. When the enemy failed to materialize though, then came the time for her to step down and... actually move on. Not that she actually believed the Abyssals weren't going to attack, of course - she had felt the summon for a reason after all - but she might as well do something with her life in the meantime. If there was one thing she liked it was to travel, and thanks to the wonders of this newfangled internet, she could even make a profit!
One year after, Rina has become something of an internet celebrity, traveling the world, sharing videos and blog post and, underneath it all, looking out for signs of the Abyssals.

Personality:
  • Cheerful and personable, she presents a very polished and fashionable face to the world, but despite what appearances would suggest, doesn't take herself too seriously - quite the contrary.
  • Very open-minded and accepting for a ship of her time - she got used to modern culture pretty fast, even if she still hasn't adjusted 100%
  • Name a language, any language from a country that's not landlocked - she probably knows it enough to at least attempt a conversation, and now that she can walk she's eager to learn more.
  • Very curious - she will try any food and drink at least once.
  • While she usually keeps her easygoing smile while in training and combat, it would be a mistake to think she isn't being serious.
  • Likes money as much as she likes spending it.
  • Enjoys watching horror movies and visiting 'haunted' castles.
  • Plays a mean guitar.
  • Likes anime and manga, though she downplays just how much.

Ship name: HMS Queen Elizabeth
Ship class: Queen Elizabeth-class battleship

Ship history:
  • Shortly after she was commissioned, completed, and readied for action in the midst of the First World War, she joined the unsuccessful Allied efforts against the Ottoman Empire in the Dardanelles, providing fire support against enemy forts along the coast. She also participated in the later, also unsuccessful Gallipoli campaign as the flagship of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force.
  • As she was being overhauled at the time, she missed the Battle of Jutland, and while she was part of the indecisive action at August 19, she did not meet any German ships in battle. For the rest of the war, she was busy with training and patrol duties at the North Sea.
  • Imperial Germany and the Allies signed an armistice aboard her hull in 1918. During the interwar years, she kept herself busy with fleet reviews, refits, flagship duties at the Mediterranean, crisis management, and being part of the non-intervention blockade during the Spanish Civil War.
  • During the Second World War, she was assigned to the Mediterranean Fleet. In May 1941, she helped escort convoys to Malta, defend Crete, evacuate the battered British-Australian-New Zealand Expeditionary Force, support Formidable's air attack on a German base at Karpathos, and substitute for her injured sister, Barham, as a fleet flagship.
  • On December 19, 1941, she and her sister, Valiant, had a damaging encounter with Italian limpet mines at Alexandria, which were planted there by frogmen (combat swimmers). Fortunately, she was not grounded at the harbor bottom, and the Italian crews were captured. She stayed at Alexandria for temporary repairs, before sailing to the US, in Norfolk, Virginia, via the Suez Canal, for more comprehensive repairs. By the time she returned to the fleet, it was July 1943.
  • From January 1944 to the end of the war, she participated in the Pacific theater of operations, working alongside American forces as a flagship. She supported air attacks such as at Sabang, did shore bombardment such as at the Andaman Islands, and supported amphibious landings such as at Burma.
  • After the war, she was assigned at home as a reserve ship and accommodation ship, until her decommissioning on May 15, 1948, and her sale and scrapping a few months later.

Civilian name: Elizabeth "Lizzie" Portsmouth
Civilian occupation: Shipping entrepreneur, Gloriana Maritime Logistics OPC
Appearance:

Personality:
  • Calm, cool and collected, she's difficult to fluster under stress and has a tendency for understatement. One could say she has a stiff upper lip, staying resolute in the face of difficulty, her emotional expressions restrained in public, yet substantial in their meaning. It's at least partly her way of coping with the stresses and losses of war, a way to carry on with life for others' sake and hers.
  • She has a strong sense of duty and selflessness. She feels that her purpose in life is to see to the betterment of others through her strengths and skills, to serve a cause greater than herself, to protect others. She sets high standards for herself, to fulfill her role as best as possible, and encourages others to do the same. However, sometimes she ends up overworking herself in the process.
  • Despite her professional demeanor, there's a sense of pep and energy to her actions and a cheerful softness to her vibe. Kind and respectful, she treats others politely. Idealistic, yet also tempered by reality, she sees the world as it is, yet also sees that it can be made better with time, effort, teamwork, and understanding.
  • She's proud of her service with the Royal Navy. She may not be among the greatest of heroes, but she finds it fulfilling to have served alongside them. War is a team effort, after all. She's also proud of her sisters for their careers and achievements.
  • She considers being old and being a granny as good things, and positively takes being called as such. For her, people age like fine wine, becoming better and wiser with experience, and having more stories to tell in the process.

Shipgirl Backstory:
  • Like the other shipgirls, she answered the call to arms and found herself summoned, to live another life of naval service for king (or in this case queen) and country. However, also like the other shipgirls, she found herself confused at seeing no enemies to fight, no threats to defend against, despite a feeling that they were out there somewhere.
  • She came to recognize that her power as a ship was not so useful in the modern age, an era of computers, electronics, jets and missiles. Still, her commitment to her nation remained, and while she was lacking in technology, she still possessed her skills and experiences, as a sailor of the seas, as a leader of ships and men.
  • In between military exercises to maintain her skills, she studied the ways of entrepreneurship, and met shipgirls of the wartime Merchant Navy along the way. It was where she got the idea of where she wanted to take her civilian career, one that maintained her affinity with the sea.
  • Applying her seamanship, leadership and management skills, she recently founded her own shipping company, a one-person corporation named Gloriana Maritime Logistics, named after a popular epithet of her namesake, Queen Elizabeth I. Its logo was a gold version of the Tudor rose (pictured above), inspired by her namesake's lineage.
  • As her company was just starting out, what she had so far was some office space, a warehouse, a handful of secondhand freighters and trucks, online services and marketing, and some employees, primarily Merchant Navy shipgirls and their escort ships.

Notes:
  • She keeps a pair of female corgis as pets, named Un and Dau.
  • She enjoys both classical and pop music, and her favorite band just so happens to be Queen. She also appreciates both art and architecture, be they classical or modern.
  • Her favorite meal of the day is afternoon tea, followed by breakfast.
  • Her company's ships do not practice having flags of convenience. Out of national pride, loyalty and service, all her ships are registered under the flag of the UK, and they follow its regulations and taxes accordingly.

Piorun
Ship name: ORP Piorun

Ship class: N-class Destroyer

Ship history:
  • One of eight N-class destroyers ordered by the Royal Navy.
  • Launched under the name Nerissa on May 1940, then transferred to the Free Polish Navy on October 1940 and renamed Piorun.
  • Assisted in the defense of Clydebank from a Luftwaffe air raid.
  • Well-known for her involvement in the final battle against the German battleship, Bismark. Piorun was part of the taskforce sent to shadow and harass the ship in preparation for the main assault. In defiance of both orders and well-being, the Piorun directly charged the Bismark and exchanged salvos with the legendary battleship. Before commencing hostilities, Piorun transmitted a single message to the Bismark: I AM A POLE.
  • Allegedly, Piorun fired everything it had at the Bismark -- cannons, anti-air, and machine guns. There were even rumors of the crew going onto the deck and firing pistols at the Bismark, slinging insults and singing the Polish national anthem.
  • Piorun and Bismark exchanged fire for an hour, before a close shot from the Bismark's main guns forced Piorun to break contact. Surprisingly, Piorun came out, unscathed. She still refused to leave the area or answer orders to break off, until very low fuel forced the destroyer to head back to the United Kingdom.
  • Piorun participated as an escort in Operation Halberd and Operation Husky.
  • Transferred to the British Home Fleet in 1944 and took part in the Battle of Ushant.
  • Participated in Operation Deadlight, sinking the captured submarines U-2329, U-2334, U-2335, U-2337, U-2350 and U-2363.
  • Returned to the Royal Navy in 1946, then renamed the HMS Noble.
  • Scrapped in 1955.
Civilian name: Philippa Plawski

"Civilian" occupation: Student of Maritime Security in the Polish Naval Academy

Appearance:

Personality: Courageous and headstrong are two words used to describe Piorun, who valiantly confronted the symbol of Nazi Germany oppression unscathed. Stubborn and insane are also two words to describe Piorun, who defied orders as she charged right at the largest battleship in the world alone. If circumstances would have permitted it, Piorun would reminisce, she would have rammed the Bismark. Piorun still holds a great amount of animosity for the Bismark to this day, holding other German shipgirls with lesser amounts of disdain. After all, they were not only weapons but symbols of Nazi power.

Outside of her hatred of the Bismark and her antipathy of German kanmasu, however, Piorun holds an almost manic amount of energy. She's great lover of sports, putting aside time to go to the gym or almost exercise every week.

Surprisingly, Piorun has a love of tea. A Royal Navy ship twice-over, Piorun holds strong opinions of tea not served to her standards. She hates ice tea and bottled tea almost as much as she hates Nazis. Piorun also possess a strong appreciation for Polish cooking. It is not uncommon for visitors to find themselves stuffed with homemade pierogi as she exuberantly extols the virtues of Earl Gray Tea.

Yay, Piorun! :D

Gotta love that gutsy moment from her.

The Taffys aren't the only ones with the hearts of battleships.

Some say she kept shouting the "I am a Pole" while dueling the Bismarck, iirc, but accounts do tend to vary.

The sheet looks pretty good, but you'll need to give Piorun a proper civilian occupation. As it stands, the shipgirls are currently not going to be reaccepeted into the military, even as conventional officers or enlisted.

Is there any particular rationale for that?

In that case, Piorun would study Maritime Security. She'll use it to springboard into military service anyway, but by then she'll hopefully exert enough pressure to get in.

Also, I went into a bit of a dive to see if they could actually bar her from service. A news article I read about the Polish Homeland Defense Act implied that as of the time cadets were technically not counted as being included in the military service. So, Piorun could squeak her way into service that way. Enroll as a cadet, as a civilian, then hopefully change the government's mind approaching graduation. But that was just one article and I can't seem to find an English translation of the Homeland Defense Act to clarify.

Fubuki
Well, this looks like fun, More shipgirl shenanigans is always nice

For once, I might actually be branching out for the first time in my RP experience (which is to say... one game, but eh)

Ship Name: Fubuki
Ship Class: Fubuki-Class Destroyer

Ship History:
Designed in the wake of the Washington Naval Treaty, the Fubuki-Class was meant to be the world's most powerful destroyers, and was intended to fill a gap with Japan's inferiority in capital ship construction. Indeed, the speed and armaments of this Destroyer made her equal to that of other navies' light cruisers, and was superior to contemporaries such as the Clemson Class or the A and B Class

As the lead ship of the class, Fubuki was a veteran of many battles in the Pacific War. During the opening stages of the Pacific War, Fubuki escorted convoys and assisted in Rear Admiral Takeo Kurita's force during the invasion of British Colonies in the region. She also assisted Sendai and Three of her sisters in the sinking of HMS Thanet of Endau. Afterwards, she continued fighting the allies in the region, eventually helping Yura and Asagiri in capturing seven British ships

Fubuki also took part in the Battle of the Sunda Strait, launching a number of torpedo attacks against Perth and Houston, and was even mistaken for sinking multiple Japanese Transports with her long lances - a feat that had actually been done by Mogami

She then served escort duties in the Andaman Islands invasion, as well as similar duties out of Port Blair during the Indian Ocean Raids. Following this, Fubuki would serve as an escort to Yamamoto's main force during the Battle of Midway.

After that, she mostly her time escorting convoys and performing anti-submarine duties, before being assigned to the Tokyo Express in Guadalcanal, she mostly served in this role, once providing fire support during an offensive on the island. Eventually, however, her luck ran out during the Battle of Cape Esperance where she ended up being gunned down by US Cruisers and Destroyers.

Civilian name: Yukino Fuyukaze

Civilian occupation: In College earning a Computer Science Degree with streaming and singing on the side
Appearance:

Personality and Backstory:
As one of the first shipgirls summoned by Japan, Fubuki immediately took up not only a Command but also an Advisory role. In between tests and exercises, Fubuki would be seen meeting with JMSDF Officers and other high-ranking individuals briefing them and telling them of her nature as a shipgirl. In addition, she spent her time learning about the modern world, adapting to modern technology like a duck takes to water. Eventually making a name for herself on Twitch as well as covering certain songs, and making a few original ones as well.

With the lack of any abyssal threat however, the navy lost interest and shipgirls and the shipgirls were to be decommissioned but nonetheless, Fubuki remained popular in the streaming community, thanks to her bubbly personality and amazing voice - much to the chagrin of fellow idol Naka, whom she would eventually collab with multiple times. While she planned with staying on with the navy as a public relations officer, as well as a liaison to her fellow shipgirls, Yukino would eventually take up a Computer Science degree while focusing on her online activities.

It is unclear yet whether she'll return to the navy, if they decide to terminate her.

Aside from her normal duties, Fubuki has also taken up a number of hobbies, This includes studying and learning about the Russian language, and Russian history in general - mostly in honor of her sister, Hibiki. In addition to that, she has also taken an interest in competitive shooting and airsoft, winning a few local tournaments.

Personality-wise, Yukino is bright and bubbly, and often says that she will do her best regardless of what that action may be. She is also quite excitable and is always eager. However, when the situation goes serious, and or life-threatening, Fubuki drops the genki-girl persona and goes into a cold, calm, and collected soldier mode. Her experiences during the Second World War had left her somewhat jaded as a result, and such this manifests in battle as Fubuki being as cool as a cucumber whenever things get serious. Outside of combat, this side of Fubuki can be seen when talking to her superiors, or when lining up the perfect shot when sniping.

Like any Destroyer Class Leader, Fubuki loves her sisters very much, and would not hesitate to defend them in battle or out of battle. In addition to that, she always listens to their concerns, and troubles, while at the same time taking an interest in their own hobbies and likes. In fact, she was the one who helped her sisters in adjusting to civilian life

Alright, that's the first sheet (mostly) done. Thoughts so far?

Edit: Changed some of the backstory to fit the new canon threads. Shouldn't be anything too much of a change.

There is a reason, but it's a spoiler. All Piorun would know is that all her attempts to join the academy or other ways of rejoining military life have been stonewalled.

Civilian occupation:
  • JMSDF Public Relations Affairs (Option One)
  • In College earning a Computer Science Degree with some light streaming and singing
Appearance:

Personality and Backstory:
As one of the first shipgirls summoned by Japan, Fubuki immediately took up not only a Command but also a Public Affairs role. In between sorties, Fubuki would be seen at JMSDF Events and gatherings promoting the organization as well as speaking to the public about shipgirls and to quell fears and dispel rumours and myths about them. In addition, she also took up streaming on Twitch as well as covering certain songs, and making a few original ones as well.

With the lack of any abyssal threat however, interest in shipgirls waned as the public became accustomed to their existence, but nonetheless, Fubuki remained popular in the streaming community, thanks to her bubbly personality and amazing voice - much to the chagrin of fellow idol Naka, whom she would eventually collab with multiple times.

Anyway, I'm just gonna leave this here for now with the template of my other character for me to edit in the finer details later.
Looks pretty good! However, for similar unexplained reasons to Piorun, Fubuki would no longer be part of the SDF and has to fully move on towards her life as a civilian.

Alright, here's my USS Oregon sheet. I'll ponder which character I'll use later:
Ship name: USS Oregon (BB-3)

Ship class: Indiana-Class Pre-Dreadnought Battleships

Ship history: Commissioned in 1896, she briefly served in the Pacific before being transferred to the East Coast over growing tensions with Spain, eventually leading to the Spanish-American War, in which she participated in the Blockade and Battle of Santiago de Cuba. After that she was transferred to the Asiatic Squadron, and participated in the Philippine-American War and the Boxer Rebellion. Reactivated in '11, she served on the West Coast of the US and during the Allied Intervention of the Russian Civil War before being decommissioned in '19 and eventually loaned to her namesake state as a museum ship. During WW2, she was taken back by the Navy, who initially was to scrap her for the war effort before re-purposing her as an ammo hulk for the Battle of Guam. After the war she was scrapped in Japan.

Civilian name: Ophelia 'Oreo' Union

Civilian occupation: Park Ranger at the Misty Fjords National Monument

Appearance:

Personality: You won't be the first to tell her she doesn't look her age. Ophelia, biologically, is in her late 30s.

Yeah, a bit on the older end of the spectrum of shipgirls, eh? I mean, she's older then the 21-knot Standards of Battleship Row, and they're already joked to be old ladies after West Virginia tried to chase that Stripperbote Shimakaze down to "put something decent on (her)".

So when she was first summoned, and found to be older then *literally* every single ship in the war (even older then Sotoyomo, a fleet tug built in 1903, who was tied to the USS Shaw during the attack on Pearl Harbor) and was only here on a technicality, the endless granny, disabilities (It's not her fault she had to wait three months for her guns to come back!), and other jokes grew very stale, very fast. Not to the point of anger like the rumors of Warspite over in the Atlantic, but very close. She preferred the solitude of solo patrol as opposed to the cacophony of ships out on fleet exercises or on ship convoys, and the peaceful quiet of her personal room as opposed to the common rooms open to the shipgirls on shore.

Come the decommissioning of the girls following the determined nonexistence of their supposed mortal enemies, Oregon packed up her bag and left, just like that. While she would prefer to have stayed in her namesake state, its proximity to Bremerton, San Diego, and every naval base in between made it an untenable option. Thus, after signing on with the US National Park Service and completing training, she was transferred on request to Alaska, where she took up her post in the blissful isolation of Misty Fjords.
