Nanoha spinoff - ViVid Strike!

The question is though, what are they going to do for the remaining two episodes? Previous Nanoha series have only have only had 1 post-final boss episode each.

watched eps 10 & 11 back to back. The fight was utter garbage in 10 and the fight in 11 is okay, but better off pretending the exchange in 10 never happened. The animation in 11 was entertaining enough but the fight lacked any interesting use of tactics or impressive choreography. Really not impressed by Fuuka's gimmick. It was Rinne's own gimmick except stronger and completely lacking the weakness which made Rinne v Vivio feel so interesting. Fuuka felt like she was an invincible object, I literally spent the entire fight waiting for her to pull some shit out of her ass and KO Rinne already.

TBH the way flashbacks & exposition were handled really pisses me off. The details of their childhood friendship should have been elaborated way before this. Like within the first 4 episodes.

Sooo I think I mostly liked that episode? I mean, there's problems, of course. I still don't like Fuuka's coming out as being just as superpowered or moreso than everyone else - it wasn't really set up before last episode, so I think it would've worked better if she was more like Teana - talented kid, sure, plenty of potential, not special in the way Einhart and Vivio and Rinne are but good at taking bits of everyone's fighting style, mixing them together, and coming out with something workable.

Because really - if Fuuka had the fist of god the whole time, then what's the point? Jill's original beliefs weren't wrong in the end, they just get reinforced.

So I think it would've worked better in the end if it'd been a double KO. It feels kind of cheap that, after the episode went out of the way to show how Rinne had been specifically training so that she could keep fighting no matter what, and had been doing so for YEARS, Fuuka managed to keep standing after a few months of work, and not even specifically working at that. Plus a double KO would've been in keeping with the original series -

when will we return to this quality of story said:
"Someday, we'll finish that fight."
"Yes. Many, many times."

I mean. I love that ending shot, it's great, but it would've been just as good if they were both lying by each other, equally exhausted and battered but still by each others' sides.

But yeah, I HAVE been thinking about ways to do this better. Off the top of my head...

Just overall, make Fuuka's character more consistent. She seems brash and impulsive and quick to fight in the first bit of the first episode and then that trait very rarely shows up again. She's perfectly calm when getting fired and thinking she's going to have to go back to the orphanage! WHY. So, give her more of a developed character, give her flaws that cause problems for her, and give her some hangups! Come on, Rinne's a psychological issue treasure chest, Fuuka's gotta have some issues over that percieved betrayal and just her time as an unadopted kid. Let her resent the other girls for their casual easy paths through life! Let her be suspicious and untrusting towards Nove taking her in!

Also overall, fix the details to make this more Nanoha. Make the cars not obviously Earth models, reference details of Mid culture that don't seem lifted from Earth, freaking worldbuild. Additionally, for the love of god, add more magical combat. Have Scuderia talk. Anything.

Then, for the actual plot... first, straighten out what Rinne's issues are and what Fuuka thinks they are early. Does Rinne actually hate weaker people? Then work that in with her later characterization rather than having her be readable as just really awful at socialization. Is Fuuka meant to be reading her wrong? Then have that become clearer and actually have her REALIZE that.

When we get to episode... whatever it was, with Fuuka learning how to fight properly. When her second fight with Vivio comes, don't have her win with the Hegemon fist. Instead, she's integrated everyone's attacks and techniques together, or started working on that, and manages to surprise Vivio. She also uses more obviously magical attacks, rather than just punching. However, have Einhart visibly use sky-splitting knuckle in Fuuka's view. Then, when the invitation to the tournament and subsequent fight happens, Fuuka still uses the hegemon attack, but it's not perfected. Einhart is surprised to see that, after just seeing her practice it, Fuuka has managed to make a somewhat functional copy. They decide to focus on honing Fuuka's skill for integrating everyone's techniques, and have her learn them properly instead of copying them by eyesight.

Then, when this final battle happens, cut out everything about the god's fist. Instead, make it clear that, sure, Fuuka's not got Rinne's overwhelming natural talent and durability, but her techniques learned by the support from all her friends are the perfect counter for Rinne (who, from the Vivio fight, seems to have a major issue with adapting to sudden fighting style changes.) That way, Jill's ideal is disproved, and we get the clear thing of Fuuka getting strong through her friends.

Blah blah fight with WAY more magical attacks than are had in the current one, get creative, it's your finale fight. Rinne switches to bombardment attacks to gain distance, Fuuka throws some back with Hegemon techniques. They fight, they work out their issues, the flashbacks are worked in more elegantly somehow (maybe seed them throughout the series instead of having them ALL now? just a thought) and in the end they KO each other. Maybe Fuuka manages to stay conscious just a little longer and they still hug in the puddles, but in the end it's a draw.

Then... well I have no idea what the finale holds. But Rinne and Fuuka promise to settle their fight sometime. Many, many times.

....this is all come up with off the top of my head, pretty much. And I haven't rewatched any episodes since my first viewing. But still.

Man the writers are freaking teases! Giving us a mere few seconds of Einhart vs Sieglinde! Same for that explicit display of a spaceship.

Also, based on that "We're not finished yet" at the end, I've got a pretty damn good idea what the bluray bonus labeled "Episode 13" is about :V

Gotta say, they're much more direct in the tease-shipping of Fuuka and Rinne than when NanoFate started.
Yuri shipping is a bit more common nowadays vs when Nanoha S1 aired, perhaps? I mean, we've even got genuine no-judgement relationships between homosexual guys in Yuri!! on Ice this season, so it sure seems anime's being a bit more open-minded on this topic.

Which gives me a good feeling on the NanoFate progression on Reflections, since being a movie gives it more leeway than being on national tv.

Heh. Looks like an upcoming drama CD might actually show Fuuka and Rinne finding out just who and how badass the parents of Vivio are :V
I'm also honestly surprised to see Arisa and Suzuka in that image.

Most of the artwork seems to be from Reflections, the upcoming Nanoha film set between A's and StrikerS, so I'm unsurprised to see Alicia and Suzuka.
I realize that, but I don't expect them to get more than a cameo in it. Their role in the first film was greatly reduced compared to the series, and the same is true of the second film outside of the friendship between Suzuka and Hayate.

Nice to see the gang all gathered together. They really should show us that drama cd in anime format. Please? OVA? Perhaps bundle it with the BDs?

Yeah, I wish she had the bob in Reflections... ah well. Glad they're getting more parts, apparently?
I think the "we're not done yet" was talking about how one of the 3 bluray bonus OVAs is labeled "episode 13".

Would be nice, but I'd much sooner beg for an OVA version of Sound Stage X. Give me my exploding magitek zombies!

Also, too many to post, so I made an album of all the art Fujima Takuya drew every week during the airing of the series.

From what I've heard that'd be pretty nice to see animated, yeah.
I don't GAF about the Innocent dakis, but these are pretty good.
Uh. You sure those are SFW, Aether? I mean, it's covering the naughty bits, but those are still pre-teens in suggestive poses...

As an aside, wow is Vivio bustier than expected in photo #11 of that album you uploaded. To the point I'm...wondering if it's possible, actually, as those look bigger than her head?
Image #20 is adorable, with Fuuka in an outfit themed on her Device cat, though.

You're right, took them down just to be safe.

As for Vivi's pic, yeah, it sure looks that way. Maybe because it was rushed? Dunno.

Funny how Huracan looks more like the actual Snow leopard he was based on than the original Asteion.
