Nanoha spinoff - ViVid Strike!

"Listen here, bitch. This is what you are gonna do. Either you quit now start doing what other rich, pampered girls do like... Crochet? Hell if I know. Or you can follow on your word and give your ex-girlfriend the catfight you promised. I'm even gonna sweeten the deal and give you a chance of fight me for this awesome belt. If you win, that is."

That's what happened and nobody is gonna convince me otherwise.

Man, Rinne needs really does need a wake up call but at this point I have so little investment in Fuuka as a character or fighter that I'd rather see Rinne win here without learning her lesson just so she can have an epic fight with Einhart.

...you know, it would probably help the 'let's have a fight until our emotional issues are resolved' thing if Fuuka actually seemed to KNOW Rinne's emotional issues. Like, yeah, the weakness thing. But Rinne hasn't really backed off as soon as the going gets tough, and I'm STILL not sold on 'Rinne actually really has contempt for all other competitors' as a thing. Rinne needs a wakeup call, yeah, but Fuuka doesn't look like she knows what that call should entail.

And Fuuka could actually use some character development. We know RINNE better than we really know her at this point.

Yeah, and what's there isn't very consistent. The temper in the first episode hasn't shown up since then, she doesn't really have a very complicated character...

Honestly, the biggest surprises to me in this episode were Lutecia actually appearing and talking (and them actually mentioning TSAB in her list of titles), and them actually saying something about Einhart's backstory from early ViVid.

Figured I'd mention this here since this is the main Nanoha thread active on SV at the minute. Nanoha, Nanoha A's and StrikerS are available on Amazon Prime as of today. I'm not sure what territories it's available in overall though. I'm in the UK, so UK availability is definite, but those of you in other countries might want to have a look and see if it's showed up for you as well.

They should have done that as soon as they got the rights for Vivid strike. Still, that's great news.

On this episode:
Rinne: "I didn't do training and martial arts because I wanted to! Its just me being selfish! If I become strong...if i think i'll be strong...then that's fine!"

Fuka: "And that so-called 'strength' of yours, is that any different from the excuses you spout when you're running from the things you don't like and want to forget?!"

Fuka really is the new Nanoha class. She freaking trashtalks and burns Rinne verbally with her fierce lectures.

Also, interesting look on Fuka's fighting style. Seeing as there wasn't much time for her to improve on the Hegemon style's more advanced techniques, Nove decided to teach her in the basics of Strike arts as well, letting her switch styles and attack patterns mid-combat. And for her attack strength, Sieg notices her fist HITS REAL HARD even without magic focused on it.. Mixing that with the Hegemon style's attacks and apply magic on it will increase her overall smashing strength. Any non-vital point becomes vital due to the damage that area takes. Guard and your arm takes a bad hit. It doesn't care what it hits. It just destroys the area it lands on. Looks like getting some tips from resident area smasher Sieg would improve Fuka.

Seems that its still UK only. They previously announced that ViVid Strike will be added to their US lineup in the future (probably once the entire series is done airing), so they'll probably add these in the future too.

Also, this is notably the first time ever that StrikerS has been licensed in English.

If this gets Strikers an english dub together with the movie compilations, it would certainly breathe new life into the franchise overseas. Couple that with Movie 3 and we're on a good roll.

Yeah, but nowadays its hard to trust non-Funimation English dubs. They're extremely hit or miss, and unlikely to receive much attention. If Funimation dubbed the movies, they would have a chance of getting shown once on Toonami.

Well, I like that it looks like Fuuka now has a better idea of Rinne's issues, last episode she was batting 0 for 2. I quite liked the episode, though I'm really hoping that we see Rinne pull out some shooting magic. And then they could have Fuuka do EInhart's catch-and-return trick, then everyone wins.

If they're orb shots. Although if its a beam, Fuuka can no sell it with a shonen punchi.

Has anyone else noticed that Fuka bears an uncanny resemblance to Hayate? Allow me to quote my post on TvTropes.
TvTropes said:
Brown Hair? Check. Yellow hair decoration on the left side? Check. Orphan in a series where everyone and their mother is happily adopted? Check. Indirect connection to Ancient Belka? Check. Has a close emotional bond with a white haired girl with sad eyes? Check. Two of the friends she makes in her introductory season are a gifted redhead from an ordinary background and a blonde clone? Check. (Device) Named after wind? Check.

...sure, if you ignore all but the most superficial parts of the character and don't pay attention to personality, fighting style, or the actual important parts of the backstory!

(also, Hayate's first friend in the setting was Suzuka, Fuuka's been more or less adopted by Nove at this point, Hayate's connection is hardly 'indirect', and sad white-haired anime girls are as common as dirt.)

Hayate's first friend in the setting was Suzuka
Which simply brings up another comparison since Fuka met Einhart first, and both her and Suzuka started off as the shy members of their group who are associated with cats.

Fuuka's been more or less adopted by Nove at this point
Hmm, I always figured that Subaru and Teana would be the first ones in the family to have kids.

I have to say...what a great finale to Fuka vs Rinne. Looks like they gave this episode quite a good bit of budgeting, with the better detail and animation in combat. Their final blows basically falling to a brawl was spectacular and painful to watch, with the sounds of each blow on their bodies.
Oh, and RIP two of Fuka's teeth. Damn. They were fighting so hard they broke through damage simulator.

With that said, I welcome the new pairing of the Nanohaverse:
