Now, ANNIHILATE ALL THE THALMOR!

I've just started playing Oblivion for the first time, and I'm using Umbra as my character. Well, I've started it a few times, but never bothered getting out of the dungeon. This time I did, and I'm considering starting over.

What was Umbras class when he was there the first time, or did he make his own class? I'm playing as an Imperial, obviously. But it's a damned shame they don't have beards in the character creator.

What's CHIM? I don't recall that acronym.
Oh boy. That topic.

CHIM is, super mega overly simplified, a source of divine power. You basically have potential to grab a hold of reality and bitch slap it. If you fail, the existence of everything bitch slaps you back and you Zero-Sum.

To Zero-Sum, bad things happen and many things don't happen, like you trying to ascend in the first place. And so you never tried. Occasionally, you might never have been.

But like I said, that's an over simplification.

The tl; dr(and therefore mostly wrong but you can google it for a better explanation) version is: CHIM is a magic word that works like the strongest version of a Wish spell, allowing the user to rewrite reality. By trying to use it you take the risk of erasing yourself forever, and it's so difficult that only Talos himself and Vivec managed to use it.

There's nothing stopping Shade from Mantling someone who already got mantled, specially after Talos worship got banned. Alternatively, Sharrum is Malacath trying to re-become Trinimac: "Malacath's teachings put a large emphasis on conflict, and he seems to enjoy watching mortals fighting one another."
In both of the only confirmed cases of Mantling, an empty position was the thing that was taken, while the Ada originally occupying was missing- Lorkhan and Hjalti as well as Sheogorath and the CoC respectively. Something like that would be possible but has no support within the games and very little from outside sources.
Akatosh also managed it, but he likes to pretend he was always one of the et-ada.

I clearly said the Thalmor, not sweet-shy-sister who is only undercover with those disgusting mer for the purposes of aiding her best brother.

Where was it said that Akatosh achieved CHIM? Akatosh is an aspect of AKA, who is one of the original Et'Ada.

Also, on CHIM. Nobody with CHIM has ever actually conclusively done something that actually required it (what power people think it gives). Changing the landscape of Cyrodiil was said to be something that Talos did with the Voice, not with CHIM, and Vivec seemingly can't do anything after losing the power of the Heart of Lorkhan since he needs the Nerevarine to defeat Dagoth Ur. Even in C0DA, Jubal does all of the heavy lifting, so it's not as if Vivec actually needed CHIM in any of that.

Canonically, I believe that CHIM is never depicted as a source of "absolute power", but rather "Nirvana" or "omniscience". Tonal Architecture is closer to becoming omnipotent, I believe.

The idea that it allowed for warping reality is likely fanon from jokes about console commands and the Creation Kit rather than something gained from actual sources.

No, Thalos did that with the Voice or Thu'um, CHIM had nothing to do with that
"'You have suffered for me to win this throne, and I see how you hate jungle. Let me show you the power of Talos Stormcrown, born of the North, where my breath is long winter. I breathe now, in royalty, and reshape this land which is mine. I do this for you, Red Legions, for I love you.'" From the Many Headed Talos.

CHIM is the secret syllable of royalty and is heavily associated with love. It's not explicitly stated, because CHIM is a secret, but it is heavily implied for those who know the secret that CHIM was involved in the change.

Everything you need to know about it is right in the word. CHIM. C - H - I - M. C - HIM. See him. You see HIM, and you see that I is between H and M. I the tower, I the wheel turned on its side, I the you, are all part of HIM.
I'm not seeing a "poster is totally high and is contemplating shit" rating, so I'll just say you're insightful.

Tower, Wheel, Syllable of Royalty, I, everyone is GOD... Motherfucker, KSBD is an Elder Scrolls fanfic.

I haven't read it, but I've heard that the original RP thread that eventually became KSBD was even more Kirkbridey.
