Money and Power: A Xianxia Merchant Quest

Track has the clear victory, but for people interested in making a divination tool to help it's still on the table. I'll put it as an option for your build infrastructure vote. Hopefully I'll have time to update today or tomorrow, if not I have a trip so it'll be delayed to Monday.
 
For the infrastructure vote I'm going to present a bunch of projects you can vote to spend Chachi's time on. For player-floated projects I have:
A Geo-Formation Worm
Anti-Abyssal Pylons
ManHunter Divination Tools

Between now and the next update would be a great time to propose other infrastructure projects. If they're viable I'll include them in the vote and give them a cost. You'll be able to propose write-ins after the post, but I was thinking it could be cool to get those in early so they're part of the update.

Anything that stretches the abilities of the Forge will take extra time for R&D because Chachi hasn't done much experimentation with it yet. This is also a Infrastructure vote, not a Forge for Profit vote or a Forge Personal Equipment vote, so the projects should primarily benefit the clan.
 
How do we currently stay in contact with distant people/agents/etc? Is it fairly eclectic and not likely to be improved by dedicated couriers (who are more vulnerable than the walking forts)?

Where do the Anti-Abyssal Pylons factor in there, considering the initial idea was to sell them. Although it would be nice to harden any locations of ours since Tet's gone rogue.

You use Sending Stones to communicate. They work in matched pairs only, team leaders get one half and admin has the other half. If two people with sending stones need to talk to each other they ask admin to relay.

There's room for improvement but it works alright.

So we can invent phones? The potential for money is immense, provide we can figure out how to mass produce cheap phones.

Plus, everyone's communications will go through us.

Maybe make self replicating phones, that replicate on our command.

Other brainstormed ideas, at least some of which I suspect are unworkable:

Pyramid of Exaltation - Cheaper Exultation - A large pyramid with various zones, each with a local Teotle effect. By continuously tuning various effects and checking the results with the new field of statistics, we seek an environment where mortals with spontaneously Exault at higher rates, ideally living in the peak of the pyramid would guarantee Exultation in a short time. We would provide time in the pyramid as a perk for mortal employees and their families.

Essence Seal Forging Chamber - Cheaper Reforging - By creating a room in which Essence and Teotle can neither enter not leave, reduce the amount of waste when trying to invent new products. Some Essence is still inevitably lost, as the seal is imperfect.

Myriad Sense Observatory - Art of Evaluation boost - The Art of Evaluation let's us extract maximal info from our senses, by adding exotic new senses and boosting our current ones, we can extract even more information from objects. Useful to steal competitors secrets and figure out why our latest forging failed.

Quicksilver Golem Puppet - Liquid Quicksilver Humanoid Form - Create a human shape for the Exalted Liquid Quicksilver to inhabit, and have it(?) raised by clan members as part of our extended family. The idea is the have it/them choose to partner with clan members out of natural loyalty to the clan (we would also pay them like clan members). The human shape because people tend to emphasize with those who look like them.

Anti-Abyssal Tea set - Security - When an abyssal clone or cultivator touches it, it glows slightly. Used to catch abyssal infiltrators. Distribute to our offices and start a custom of always sharing tea before closing deals.

Infrastructure ideas given we buy the resources we need from other people and can't easily change that up and already added the walking fortresses and rivers for distribution.

New ideas should mainly focus on either turning the raw resources into potions at a higher efficiency chemistry sets and higher quality items or something to help the salesman sell the items.
 
Once we get diamond mind, it's probably be useful to develop a truth field array, which either forces everyone within it to but lie, or even is just a magical polygraph

And while that tea set is more useful for business, I was thinking something more asking the lines of a pendant that vibrated when an abyssal (clone) is nearby.

I really like the idea of making cultivation smart phone, this seems like the kind of export that will make us some of the richest people in the empire.

But starting with cheap regular mobile phone analogue, that will be much less expensive than a whole system of sending stones and maybe can be sold to peasants will be a very good start.

We can slowly corner the entertainment industry, using our own real life experience to know what will work.
 
Forging Infrastructure
Chachi weighed her options, but in the end one concern dominated her decision, "We must be as discrete as possible. A trap would be too dramatic by necessity. It's best if we can quietly track Tet back from his informants."

"Yes, there is risk involved, but if successful that method will be clean and quiet," the Bull-Frog agreed, "it will take some time. The more assistance I have, the faster I can move. But then you risk trusting the wrong person. If your brother catches that his informants are compromised, he will cut them off and go deeper into hiding."

You will only trust the Bull-Frog with this. He will work very discretely but slowly to uncover Tet's informants.

You will fully inform your mother, she will very carefully use your maternal clan to help while leaving them on a need-to-know.

You will fully inform your mother and Teo. They will both recruit an elite team of their most trusted subordinates to help the Bull-Frog.

Chachi had to trust her people to track Tet. She had no particular skills or techniques in that area. More importantly, she reminded herself, she was a public figure. The more time she spent on this, the more she risked exposing the whole operation. Still, she fretted. Was there some way she could use the Forge to help?

As the Matriarch, her time was rarely her own. The moments not filled with endless meetings and Teo's training regiment were budgeted for her own cultivation, or for Forging to help the clan. She dashed up a few floors to her workshop and considered her options. She could forge tracking tools, but it would mean sacrificing time she'd already allocated to other projects her people needed.

Her mood brightened when she opened the large sliding doors to her private workshop. A collection of pristine crafting tools lined one wall. She didn't need them, with Will of Creation she could craft using only Teotl, and the Cosmic Forge was self-contained. They were present in case she could save a sliver of time by summoning an assistant to do some portion of her work conventionally. She did occasionally use the diagnostic tools on the other wall. The Art of Evaluation was powerful, but she could get even more from it with tools that enhanced or altered her physical senses. The most important, and expensive, part of her workshop were the many cleanly labeled chests of Essence Crystals, which provided concentrated essence for the Forge to shape.

She also had some common ritual objects, for turning imbued items into treasures, but there were limits to what you could do in a sterile workshop. Her clan did not have many proper ritual sites, they were elixir brewers, not treasure crafters. She wondered if the Iquitini clan would mind giving her access to some of their ritual sites, so she could further explore the esoteric art of Ritual Finishing. She dismissed the thought, it wasn't really a priority, she could usually bypass that whole step with the Forge.

Chachi pouted at her Idea Board, where she put her grand plans and wild ideas for safekeeping. She just didn't have enough time. She could only craft in bits and spurts before some new responsibility came along. Maybe Teo had been right, and it would have been better for the Clan if she'd concentrated on crafting and cultivation. But, that ship was already downriver. Now she needed to decide how to spend the crafting time she had.

You have many projects available to you. Projects cost Time, Money, and Essence Crystals. Rarely they may also cost Heavenly Conduits. You have 10 Time and 25 Essence Crystals (Refills at a rate of 15 per quarter due to alliance with the Tehuilotl Prospectors Union). Please Plan Vote.

Completing an infrastructure project will often unlock a more advanced project, as will Learning the Forge, adventuring, and thread ideas.

Equip your guards with a Treasure armor uniform based on Oku's Carapace armor, a Treasure weapon that perfectly compliments their individual cultivation, and a set of performance enhancing elixirs for emergencies. 3 Time, 10 Crystals, $15.

Upgrade the static defenses of all your facilities using designs you already implemented with the Walking Fortresses. Also, upgrade all wards and defensive scrying. 1 Time, 10 Crystals, $5.

[] SECUIRTY – Greater Golems

Golems are a normally a very niche project. Made properly, they are large, strong, and tough. They are also extremely stupid and slow. With the exception of certain fields, like mining, they are too expensive to replace mortal workers and not capable enough to replace cultivators. Thus far, no golem has been created with sufficient mental flexibility to be a security guard. Chachi thinks she can change that by Forging more sophisticated golem minds based on dogs. They have the potential to revolutionize automation! Or not, it may take many more advancements. 5 Time, 5 Crystals, $5.

Equip your communications hub with a series of audio-transmitting tubes so participants in your communication network can speak to each other directly. 1 Time, $1.

Create a Teapot that uses Diamond to detect various forms of cultivation corruption. Tea brewed using the pot will be delicious for Orthodox or Heterodox cultivators, but a fiery poison for Abyssal, Infernal, Negative, or Impure cultivators. Once Chachi's worked out the design, she can mass produce them for her Admin and Sales team. 3 Time, 2 Crystals, $1.

[] SALES – GeoFormation Worm

Combine aspects of the Walking Fortress and the new Big Digger to Forge an enormous biomechanical worm capable of consuming earth and compacting it, very inefficiently, into Essence Crystals. Useful for underground construction or large scale demolition. Potentially a grand enough project to impress Lord Tlaloc. 5 Time, 10 Crystals, $10, 8 Heavenly Conduits (Pre-rolled).

Downscale the Walking Fortress design to equip smaller sales teams with mobile, defensible, storefronts. They can be loaded unto a Walking Fortress segment or used independently. 2 Time, 5 Crystals, $10.

Thinking these three myself. We are meeting the other true lady and our abyssal towers are our main bargaining chip for that. Having a proof of concept would be invaluable to convincing her.

Essence seal forging just seems like great long term benifit and the quicksver golem puppet is very interesting.

This sounds like something new but very useful and allow fast return of some of the money we are bleeding, I want anti abyssal towers, but that is more long term investment, and their main client don't exactly have money to pay for our regular stuff, meaning this is basically investing in spirit clams, when the towers by themselves won't necessarily be enough.

I suggest keeping the towers to later, and work on saving and getting money this turn.

Communication system should improve efficiency significantly, and if there is one thing I know about ancient China is that they love bureaucracy, I hope for some synergy between it and worms, so we can push our communication on other clans with help from lord Tlaloc with the justification of how much it improves efficiency, this in turn will not only increase profit but guve us backdoor into enemy clan who will know to not mess with us and increase prestige.

The Divination Tools are absolutely essential given the risk we're facing is familial annihilation, and the Pure Teapot ensures that any body working with him has an increased chance of being discovered. Its also has potential elsewhere that can yield benefits too.

The upgraded communication is a vast upgrade compared to the cost, given information flow increases by an order of magnitude and it eases our bureaucracy. Both of these mean wealth given we're a merchant clan.

Finally the Essense Sealing Forge is just a solid choice given we're going to be building every turn.

I think I will change my plan to your plan, I want the worms, but it could wait, and my plan to push our lord to make us communication company for everyone in his territory sounds like it will work better if communication has time to grow and prove itself.

I'm leaning towards Duo right now for the investigation as our mom is our best intrigue specialist now that Tet's vanished and given how Tet was focused on Teo as his main rival he would probably be watching Teo's people a lot closer. then someone that he viewed as a nonentity.

I was thinking that the tea pot idea looks really cool; it's both something that I want to do and It seems like it's something that's going to be really easy to sell and bring up our income. The problem is we don't have enough time to do both the Essence Seal, Anti-Abyssal Tower and the tea set in the same plan and I can't decide which I want to cut. I am considering dropping the Essence Seal as time seems to matter a lot more then essence right now given each plan I'm making is hitting the limit on time rather then crystals.

Projects that involve a lot of R&D work by Chachi tend to be high on Time costs. Things that have a lot of exotic forged materials have high essence costs. Things with a lot of mundane materials or sheer labor have high $$$ costs.

It's intended that you will run out of time first in general. You have enough Crystals but if you do too many big projects in a row or your crystal supply is disturbed you'll need to wait for it to refill. You aren't able to exhaust your $$$ budget but money has a lot of other uses.

Also hope I'm not being boring with complicated votes. I decided to put the infrastructure vote here to sandwich complicated votes with dramatic turns.
