Mirai Nikki: Dead End

[X] "I'm more interested in hearing about the case."

Was interested in choosing the call, but I think there's enough votes for it now that it has a good chance of winning anyway, so I'll go with my other choice.

Let´s do the intelligent thing and use the help that a professional therapist can provide us

[X] "I'll give him a call."

And since these Deja vu thingy recharges itself

[O] "I'm more interested in hearing about the case."

[X] "I'll give him a call."

Mental health for the win guys. With this we will have the unbeatable power of common sense while everybody else is bogged down with unbearable trauma.:V

[O] "I'm more interested in hearing about the case."

How many votes would it take before Deja Vu actives? Majority?

@Shinobu Oshino Is Vera talented in any mundane skill seemingly unrelated to the whole Kill Or be Killed thingy, that can potentially be useful in the whole Battle Royale scenario? Like Yuki´s phenomenal dart-throwing skill that managed to kill two Diary Users...

It's kind of been hinted at, but Vera is relatively sporty/athletic - and there's also this line from earlier:
If it came to a fight, I could handle myself pretty well… Wait, why am I even thinking like this? I'm not going to fight Yuno. I'm just being paranoid.
This will get elaborated more on later.

@abacadaasap321
It's majority, yeah, so that when it's used, everyone is in agreement in its usage as opposed to one or two people voting for it and a precious resource gets used up.

If we can "handle ourselves pretty well" in a fight against Yuno Gasai then we are pretty much at Peak Human level of strength and reflexes, and extremely proficient in CQC...

I mean physically the baseline human in Mirai Nikki is pretty much the same as IRL, but Yuno Gasai seems to be, comparatively, at the physical level of a super soldier like the Spartan II, or Captain America... So if we can hold our own against her, well we are way beyond the baseline human in terms of strength and skill

Despite that small assurance, I am still not particularly interested in participating in any shape, way or form in the game @Shinobu Oshino as long as the 3rd, 5th and 6th don't win the world is safe, and Yuki and Yuno did not have any problem in killing them first.

As I said before, In my opinion, battle royale contests are only worth participating in if the reward for winning is worth the trouble, and, as confimed by Deus, there is no reward beyond survival for Vera... Which is a great prize don't get me wrong, but since it is the exact same prize as we get by not participating, and unlike the rest of the Diary holders we can choose whether to participate, we can simply say "Screw It, I´m out of here"...

Episode 2: 4
Nishijima won't let this go until I relent. "Alright, I'll give him a call." It couldn't hurt. Maybe talking to him might actually help me out. The clock says it's 4:40 and most doctor's offices close after four.

"I'll call him tomorrow."

"Yeah," Nishijima says, taking a sip of his coffee. "It's my fault. I should've mentioned it earlier."

"No, you're fine Nishi-... I-I mean, Masumi."

"You don't have to force yourself, Vera." He sighs.

"Thanks." I'm relieved he said that because I was going to have to keep correcting myself. "So, the case… do you have any leads?"

"I can't really talk about that."

"It's just us, Nishijima."

"I know, but…." He stares up at the ceiling, gathering his thoughts. "Alright. I can't say much, but in regards to catching him, no." He quirks a brow. "You would think with how he conducts his 'business', there would be more of a trail to follow. But no, each victim has no connection to the last. It's a case of indiscriminate murder."

"Indiscriminate? So my Mom died just because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Nishijima slowly nods.

"... It's not like Dad, then."

"No. Your father died in the line of duty, doing what he loved." Nishijima frowns. "He was certainly a character. He was a hard worker, the same as the Chief. Definitely someone worth looking up to."

"He was my hero." I lean back in the chair, putting my hands behind my head. "I thought he was unstoppable. He'd tell me all kinds of stories when we trained."

"Trained? Ah, right. He was into Muay Thai, wasn't he?"

"Judo, Boxing, you name it, he probably tried doing it." It was a hobby of his. As he got older, he got a little out of shape, but he still did the best he could. "I remember him saying that he wanted to be a professional but ended up being a cop instead."

"Quite the career change." He laughs, setting his cup down. "So he trained you?"

"Well, a bit. I went to class for Judo. When I'd get home, Dad would run through drills with me and give pointers. It was a lot of fun."

Dad was supportive, not too strict. Mom didn't want me fighting, of course, she was worried I would get hurt.

She's going to get into a fight and it's going to be your fault!

No, she won't! Vera's too smart for that.

"I miss it."

"Hm, have you thought about going back to class?"

"No, not really."

"Who knows, you might have fun." Nishijima sips his coffee. "Could even make some new friends."

"... I'll think about it." I lied. It wouldn't be the same without Dad.

"How are things going at school? We haven't had much of a chance to talk these past few days, so…"

"They're going as well as they could be. Still catching up on some stuff I missed, but other than that, things are fine."

"Anything new going on?"

Ok, let´s see what´s happen if we take this route before trying.

[O] "Well, I have to show you something..." (Show Nishijima the Future Diary)

[O] "Well, I have to show you something..." (Show Nishijima the Future Diary)

I chose this mostly out of interest, though city exploring and bringing up Yuno I also considered.

I'll end up voting for this anyway.

Episode 2: 5 (Inverted Fractal: Nishijima I)
Memories coalesce and reform.

Fractured. Merging. They shine bright, illuminating the path ahead

Inverted Fractal (Nishijima I)
Another time, another choice…

"So this diary tells the future? And you mentioned 'dead ends'."

"Yeah." After showing Nishijima the diary, he didn't really believe me. It wasn't until a few days of correct predictions later that he lent me an ear.

"So it's some kind of death game. You have to kill the other users in order to win." Nishijima says, mumbling in disgust.

"Yes. I'm… going to be targeted. There are eleven other people participating. If I win, I get a wish and become a God."

"Become a God? That seems…"

"Unbelievable? Yeah. I know. It took a while for me to really believe it." I lean back on the sofa. "I don't think I can do this by myself. I think I need your help, Nishijima."

"Help to do what?"

That's a good question. Help to do 'what' exactly? Kill the other diary holders? No, I don't think I can do that. It's asking a cop to participate in murder. I want to win, of course, I want to make that wish. I want my family back. The 'God' thing I could care less about -- though if that comes with the territory, I'll just deal with it.

"... I don't know. I can't ask for your help because that just means killing people."

"Are you really going to become a murderer for this?" Nishijima furrows his brow. "Do you even know if all of this is true? Who promised you this? It could all be some kind of trick."

"It could be, yeah." The thought had crossed my mind. What if it was all a trick, a trap? "But I don't have anything else."

"Yes, you do, Vera. You have me."

I knew him for only a few weeks, but Nishijima has been a great help. Not what I would call family, but a friend? Sure.

"Sorry. I shouldn't be so callous," I say, lowering my head. "I just don't know what to do. I don't know who to turn to."

"For now, avoid using your diary. Keep it locked up somewhere no one can get it. I'll get you a spare phone so we can keep in contact." Nishijima places a hand on my head. "Check it every night for 'Dead Ends', but keep even that to a minimum. You never know who's watching."

"Ugh." I shake my head.

"Are you okay, Vera?"

"Yeah, I'm f-fine. Bit of a headache." I need to quickly change the subject. "Hey, Nishijima. Does the name Yuno Gasai mean anything to you?"

Nishijima turns pale. He closes his eyes and sets the coffee mug down. "Yes, it does."

"She's in my class. She seems nice, but lately she's been giving me these weird looks."

"Weird looks?" He sighs. "It might be because of what happened to your mother."

"Really?"

"Yuno Gasai lost both of her parents."

My heart sinks. "What?"

"It was a murder-suicide. I worked the case two years ago. The crime scene was…" Memories must've come rushing back to him. He quickly shook his head. "It's not something I like to remember."

"Who… did it?" My throat feels dry. I can hardly get the words out.

"The mother. Story goes that there were domestic issues at home due to her husband working out late. This isn't the first time I've seen this happen, and sadly, it probably won't be the last."

"That's awful. But, what happened after?"

"Yuno Gasai was sent to live with a foster family, but that didn't last long either. She ended up going back to her old residence."

"What? They just let her go?"

"I hear her foster family is reaping the benefits, so of course they don't." Nishijima scoffs. "It's hearsay, but from what I know about that family, I can believe it."

"That isn't right."

"I know, but there's not much I can do about it." He grits his teeth. "If there was something else I could do, I would."

There's only so much one person can do. I don't blame Nishijima for feeling powerless. I'd probably feel the same way.
