Miracles of Ancient Wonder (RWBY/D&D Homebrew)

Wouldn't this hit the rug just fine and make it unable to hit for shit while everyone deploys?
Hmmm, possibly. Think it would work better than Ensnaring Strike?

EDIT: Okay, switched it out, Frostbite autohitting seems better. Might have trouble with the STR check.

Blood and Bone Part X
[X] Plan Ambush averted

-[X] Cast Guidance on self

-[X] USe Stealth to quietly warn the next person down about the Bear Rug.

-[X] If the creature still has not acted, ready our weapon and cast Frostbite.

First things first, you decide, quickly holding up a surreptitious hand behind your back to halt your allies in their tracks. You can almost feel their stares, knowing that they likely can't see the threat waiting just a few steps before them, but you can only tilt your head towards the rug meaningfully. At the same time, you whisper words of foresight to yourself, imparting supernatural competence. That done, you glance at the false rug once again, ensuring it has not moved from its position. It has not, and so you act. Words of frost spill from your tongue, and the next moment you hear an unearthly screech as the rug is pierced through. The next moment, you are jerking back as faster than you can blink the rug transforms, becoming an amorphous black mass of gelatinous flesh that surges upwards to tackle you. Caught off guard by the vicious reaction, you are not quite quick enough to dodge, allowing it to slam you to the ground.

Ruby takes 5 Wounds

The pain is a shock, unused to combat as you are, but already instinct is taking hold, and you manage to gasp out another spell of frost, with the icicles directly piercing your target this time. It hardly seems to matter, however, and even Aes's shouted incantation that summons a blaze of fire upon its flesh is ignored with ravenous glee. For a moment, as the beast looms over you, you feared you might be engulfed entirely by the beast, but then suddenly its weight is torn off you. You blink, then blink again as you watch your sister tackle the blob to the ground much as it had you, punching it center mass as she did. Yang's strike had even less effect than your magic, sinking deep before bouncing back without a mark, but you are thankful nonetheless for her efforts.

Yang spends 20 Light

What do you do now?

[ ] Write-in Plan

OOC: So, a few things I should mention. First off, Ruby doesn't actually have a weapon at this point, being too weak physically to handle most, and you've yet to find a dagger or something similar so that part of the plan was unnecessary. Second, I have to apologize. I've apparently been quite forgetful when it comes to combat, and have been missing a few of the procedures, such as Wound saves, and a few equipment affects. Nothing too bad, and the outcomes probably would have been much the same, if a little less curbstompy. As it is, I've now remembered that, and taken it into account, so there might be a bit of a difficulty spike. Not too much, but it's something to keep in mind. And hey look! Yang actually did something useful! Sort of. She'll feel nice about it at least. At least she hit the thing, even if it was for no damage.

In other news, I'm not quite sure how I intend to do multiple turn encounters. This is the first time it's really gone for more than one or one and a little. For now, I'm going to pause to let you guys regroup unless the result is pretty much a foregone conclusion, but let me know if you want something faster.

[X] Plan Ambush averted

The big deal is mostly that its not so loud as to alert the whole building, and we can only use Grand spells once per encounter I think?
Once per day, actually. Complex spells are once per encounter.

Ouch, yeah mimics are no joke.

Okay, so our main offense is Aes and Lily, since Yang is unlikely to do too much damage and most of our offense spells are a bit omnidirectional. Aes has a lot of Dex, so she should maybe focus on Eldritch Blast for offense. Lily probably has the only weapon of the group, they should work with Yang to keep the mimic down. We should probably keep using Frostbite, and look to get an offensive spell that doesn't hit everyone in an area.

Huh, sort of forgot Lily existed, actually. It should be noted, however, that he only deals one damage, max. No wound saves against it, but it's still not much. Don't know why you're calling him your main offense.

Because he is the only one with a weapon and who knows how to fight :). Still, even with that the plan is pretty workable, Lily and Yang to box the mimic in and deal melee damage, Aes and Ruby to dump damage onto it from range.

You do remember Ozpin himself is there, right? You know, the veteran hunter and wizard?
Do keep in mind that he intends only to act as a safety net and step in when you get into mortal danger. Unless you start losing really badly, he will remain an observer. Otherwise, you could just throw him at everything and be done with it, but that's no fun and would ruin the game.

So she can't even use the little pocket knife we had her grab for the first Adventure as a trigger for Entangling Strike and the Hunter's Mark bonus? Now unlocking our Aura and/or getting 10 Strength is even more urgent, because those two Spells are essentially locked to us until then.

Looking over the Companion sheets, I realize that Aes doesn't have any repeatable attack spells like Ruby with Frostbite. She only has two Complex attack spells (Create Bonfire, which I think she just used, and Acid Splash), and five Grands. So she has a handful of rocket launchers, but no sidearm for when she runs out, and she can't do any physical combat either. This could end up being a problem for long encounters/dungeon crawls.

[X] Aes casts Heroism on Yang before she and Ruby pull away to form the back line who attack with ranged spells, Ruby spamming Frostbite while Aes uses what she thinks is appropriate (though she should try to save a couple Grand spells for later fights). Meanwhile Yang serves as the frontline and Lily makes attacks of opportunity as the skirmisher.

The next few moments are swift and brutal, but every single one burns itself into your mind as it passes, the cold clarity of battle settling upon you. Yang, seemingly possessed by a cold battle fervor, wrestles with the beast that had once been a carpet, her features grim as she twists to the side just inches away from its heavy blows. And then there is Lily, almost forgotten in your plans to initiate battle, who comes screaming from the fireplace with blade in hand to attack your foe.

"Die, foul beast!" The little fairy declares, before darting in between the melee and carving off a piece of the monster, much to its ire. At the same time, you feel a surge of warmth flowing through you, easing the pain of your wounds, and you glance back to Aes in thanks while stepping back to join her. The faunus girl pays you no mind, however, switching from her intoned blessing to a tongue ancient and almost painful to hear, before raising her hand towards the combat. You watch, stunned, as she releases the spell, practically splattering your gelatinous enemy across the floor with a bolt of pure force. And yet it is not enough, What is left of the creature struggling to rise, so you add your own efforts. Another swathe of frost scratches across part of it, smaller than usual but still painful to be sure. For a brief instant it seemed as if the creature might survive even that, but a moment later Yang is there, grabbing hold of the beast and smashing it back into the ground, whereupon it finally, finally shatters entirely.

Silence descends as the four of you pause for breath, staring at the place it had been. Then, Yang speaks up, a dark and wry humour colouring her voice. "Well, so much for stealth." You find you can't disagree with her. Before you can voice such sentiments, however, you are interrupted by Ozpin, the aged headmaster stepping out of the chimney and almost casually brushing off the soot and dust with a minor cantrip.

"Indeed, Ms. Xiaolong, though I must commend you four on your efforts. If that creature was what I suspect, you have come out much better than most would." It is here that his dark eyes settle on you, lips quirking into a small smirk. "It must have been quite surprised to be found out before it wished." You do not blush at the roundabout praise, but still it warms your heart. Your keen sight may just have saved your entire party from a painful end. At the least, it made the encounter much easier.

Before you can think of a response, you are distracted by a sudden, bloodcurdling howl, shattering the night, and from below your feet, you can hear the pounding of several sets of steps on stairs. Half a dozen of them, at least. From above you hear even more--and they were all coming straight for you. Your target, it seemed, had noticed the fight, and he wasn't happy.

What do you do?

OOC: Well would you look at that. You just botched for the Necromancer's reaction roll. He's sending everything he has. Oops.

P.S. it's not a bad as it sounds, since you just neutralized his… oh, second most dangerous thing? You could, theoretically, pull off a win even without Ozpin's help, so don't panic quite yet. It'll just be a bit difficult and call for smart tactics.
P.P.S. Also, since I'm not sure if I ever clarified this, yes, there's a reason people take two attacks in one turn. I'm using a rule that I
think is homebrewed, but am not completely sure, where a character can sacrifice their move and minor actions to get another standard. Monsters, obviously, won't really do this, but intelligent enemies might, so kep it in mind when planning your actions.

Oh great. Zombie horde. That's just what we need in the middle of a Kingdom's capital city.

Is there a way we can get past them and down into where the guy's lair presumably is?

Well, the good news is that this is the perfect opportunity to drop entangle on the oncoming horde.

Kill them all? You don't even know where the lair proper is at the moment. The room you're in has two exits, one of which seems to lead into a kitchens area and the other into a hallway. Ruby knows that the kitchens should lead outside--Unless something has been twisting space, but that is exceedingly unlikely--and the hallway to the rest of the house. Any threats will likely come through there.

Oh well. PTSD from zombified Faunus Children and having to kill said kids was going to happen at some point. Best we can do is hope Ozpin'll be willing to take point in the name of ending this as quickly as possible before the necromancer runs/does something.
You don't even know where the lair proper is at the moment.
Ruby's read/been told a ton of fairy tales. If the necromancer's super-fucked up lab of body parts and captives isn't in the deepest part of the basement she'll probably be very surprised.

Oh thank god, when it said that two groups were coming from upstairs and the basement, I thought we'd have to deal with hordes from two directions at once. Having to cover only one access point turns this from FUBAR to actually somewhat possible.

I really wish Aes hadn't automatically used Create Bonfire at the beginning of this fight instead of another spell, because it'd make a great hazard to drop on the choke point of the hall doorway as the horde comes through. Unless this counts as a second encounter and it's recharged?

Well yes, but that doesn't mean it actually is there, and nineteen wisdom is enough to keep Ruby from assuming IC.

Yes, it is a second encounter, which will also cut off your heroism buff. Speaking of which, would anyone care to actually start making plans? I understand It's difficult to bother when there's no set vote, but I do need something.

I just got up, and I'm working on a plan, just considering a few more things. I still don't have anything big for Lily... since this is the living room of a mansion, is there a large and precariously hanging chandelier that he can drop onto a group as it passes underneath? Also, is there a dresser and/or couch that Yang can use her Aura enhanced strength to quickly wedge into the doorway as a makeshift barricade?

Hmmm... well, there's a couple of couches, but neither look particularly sturdy, mostly being made out of fluff. There is, however, a nice and pretty chandelier... which appears to be made out of Dust instead of the usual glass affair. Lots of tiny crystals which, now that you are actually looking, look really old and fragile. Like, there's a few cracks in a good half of them. (Yes, I just rolled for that. It was mostly a thing about how stupidly the owners liked to spend their money. They got really, really bad rolls)

Ok, so idea for a plan
- An Entangle as soon as they start coming through the door will be very useful, locking some down and slowing the rest.
-The couches, given Yang's strength and skill, could be an improvised throwing weapon, just hurtle one into the group as they enter the door.
- Follow this up with a Thunderwave, either from Aes or Ruby, which will deal damage to the group, knock some of them back, and throw the couch right back into the group for more damage and confiusion.

EDIT: Hmmm, how dangerous is dust to exploding from impact? And can we use the Dust in the chandalier to fuel skills/spells?
