Miracles of Ancient Wonder (RWBY/D&D Homebrew)

So I guess that's a "yes" on the kind of response I mentioned, although I'd prefer to tweak it to something less aggressive. We know he doesn't mean to offend Ruby, so let's not shout at him or call him names.

[X] "And what is that supposed to mean, hmm?"

is, at first glance, a deck of cards, similar but different to the one in the front window. Where that was a set of vaguely recognized Tarot, used in fortune telling and painted in red, black, and white, these were formed from different shades of gold. Thirteen in all, each depicted a person. You saw a man with a bow, a knight in shining armor, another person who looked more beast than human but stood on two legs and carried a massive cleaver, and several more, each as varied and intricately detailed as the last.
... if we don't get mah Seibah out of that thing I will be... not surprised but still slightly disappointed.
With messy black hair and dark grey eyes behind a pair of square glasses, there is nothing in particular special about him, and yet as he meets your gaze easily, lips quirking upwards just a touch, you cannot help but shiver slighty.
Oh hello Joker. Decide on a name this time or are you picking a new one again? :V
"Your role is that of the Fool, not the Fortune. Much like me, actually
Speaking of the Velvet Room, mind if we borrow your cat-boy? We need a magical cat advisor, but I don't think Blake's gonna be around in time, if she knows any magic at all.

As stated, different story. One I'm still trying to work out if I can even write or not, and the specifics if I do.

Well at least one person actually got that. I was wondering if I had been too obtuse.
Speaking of the Velvet Room
I... actually hadn't meant for that to be the case. Not the Velvet Room, sadly, and Personas don't actually exist here, though Joker miiiiiiiighhhhhhht still be aware of another universe where that was the case. Maybe. I'm still deciding on that, or if he's just a weird fortune teller/fourth-wall leaner. He's mostly just a blatant Expy.

We've also made her super wise and charismatic for her age, which she's demonstrated multiple times in conversations with her family members, along with increasing her perception and insight.

Given what you're doing so far, I'd say with 85% confidence you could handle the weirdness and emotions of Fate and Ruby Rose being the master of Artoria. The other 15% is that I personally haven't seen you handle anything as dark and horrifying as Fate can get... plus the occasional fan service reference-comedy gag.

Doubted Personas would be a thing, but if you do feel the need to make something of him, an intro to the idea of planar/dimension travel would be great.

Not exactly what I meant either, though that would be a highly interesting idea as well. I think somebody has already written something similar, except with Rubes as master of Archer, IIRC. I was actually talking about a story where someone gets a Second Archive loaded with thirteen different servants from across fiction. The problem is the setting. I sort of want to do it in Worm, but That's always complicated because the power scale there is pretty much nonexistent, and Wildbow basically wrote it to be an unwinnable situation. In RWBY on the other hand, I'm just not sure. One because i was kinda banking on Ruby being the Lancer, since i can't really think of any other major polearm wielders in fiction, and two being, again, the power scale. A lot of RWBY is pretty unclear on just how superhuman their characters are, and i'm not sure how to mesh it into the timeline either, since there is a very limited amount of real conflict for the first two and a half seasons, so a bunch of Heroic Spirits would be superfluous, especially since most fictional xharacters are more powerful than Servants anyways.
But I digress, and this is off-topic. If you're interested in being a wall to bounce ideas off of or just simply discuss it further, feel free to PM me.

Ah, crap, you just reminded me of something I forgot to mention in the update. Eh, screw it, I can just mention it next time. Say Ruby was distracted, if nothing else.

I thought we weren't mentioning it, in keeping with the theme. But if someone's gonna just come out and say it...

I'd suggest avoiding multi-dimensional fourth wall breaks that aren't explicit nods-to-the-viewers, if only to avoid letting a one-off reference take over the whole story...

Don't worry, I plan to keep it low-key, and at least somewhat deniable if i keep it up. There might be confirmations outside the actual story as to some comment or another, but in story it just comes off as randomly mysterious, and unique to this character. There's a reason I said fourth wall leaner rather than breaker.

-[X]"So what kind of Magician person would this Second Archive be good for?"
-[X] Once that dialogue is played out: "I don't suppose you have any books on folklore for sale?"

I'm not expecting it to be the Second Archive in regards to function or power, but something in a similar vein. So yeah, hoping to grab an artifact or a book of spells. If nothing else, it gives us a reason to go back to Ozpin and ask 'hey, this is the fourth magic person I've met in a few months, you sure you don't know any of them?' Because that plot-point's going to happen sooner or later.

Well, he has stated that the magic he is aware of is exceedingly rare, which is actually true since there are only five users left in the world, not counting himself, and from your spying session you know he really is confused by this sudden rampancy of magic. Besides, nobody said anything about magic users,.

"Much like you?" You ask, glancing down to the card he had marked out. On it is an aimage of a jester dancing close to the edge of a cliff, with a small dog yapping at his heels. There is something intriguing about it, the comparatively simple image, something which invokes a sense of deep satisfaction as you look at it. When you glance back up to meet the boy's gaze, his smile has widened just the slightest touch. "I'm Ruby, by the way."

"Akira." He replies in kind with a tilt of his head, eyes flicking down then back up again. "And yes, like me. The Fool represents chaos, freedom, madness and creativity. Innocent monsters, the lot of us, to bend worlds at our whim. It is rare for two Fools to meet another, but life has its ways." You take that in, nodding slowly. The assertion sounds ridiculous, but magic often was, and though you could detect no hint of true arcane power, dismissing it out of hand would be foolish. Curious, you scrutinize the boy, Akira. At first, nothing seems amiss, he is just as plain looking as one might be, but then… there. You catch just a glimpse as his heald shifts the the side, but his ears, normally buried beneath hiss mess of hair, are pointed more than truly natural. You wonder if he might be some kind of faunus. It would not be a telltale sign of magic abilities, but interesting nonetheless. After a moment you shake your head, dismissing the concerns. Not everything must be magic, after all.

"I don't suppose you have any books on folklore for sale?" You ask instead, shifting the conversation away and earning a curious eyebrow from the boy. That was, after all, why you had come here.

"Folklore, hmm?" He repeats, humming low in his throat as he leans back and regards you for a moment. "Not tales, but something real. That is an interesting request." His gaze remains on you for several more seconds, assessing, before suddenly he stands and moves around the corner. Curious, you follow, watching as he moves around the store, pulling one book after another from the shelves and glancing at their cover before either replacing them or transfering them to his off hand. As he works, Akira speaks, a certain tone of professionalism slipping into his voice now that he was actually working.

"Now, I can't promise a great deal--the sort of knowledge you are looking for is rare even by our standards--but there are a few you might be interested in." Here, Akira pauses, a stack of three books in hand as he glances back to you. "Of course, if you are looking for more than mere Lore, We would be much more able to comply. Knowledge is difficult to come by, but power? That is another matter entirely." With that, he gestures to the store around you. "Feel free to browse at your leisure. We also buy if you have something worth claiming."

What do you buy from the Chains of Fate?

[ ] Books

-[ ] The Dance of Spheres (200 Lien): A book so old it looks like it will crumble to dust at any moment, this tome is written in a sprawling, archaic text barely recognizable as Remnantian. In it is described a series of stories about the creation of this world and all the others around it, and how they came to be ordered. +5 to knowledge checks about other planes.

-[ ] The Annals of Heaven (100 Lien): A book bound in white cloth and glowing with the faintest hints of magic, this book tells the stories of various afterlifes and those who guard them. +5 to knowledge checks about celestials

-[ ] The Songs of Balance (50 Lien): A series of short tales about elementals, and how to interact with them without giving offense.

[ ] Items

-[ ] Common Potions of Healing (30 Lien Each)

-[ ] Cantrip Spell Scroll (60 Lien Each)

--[ ] Write-in spell

And what do you sell?

[ ] 1 Common Potion of Healing (20 Lien)

[ ] 1 Spell Scroll of Toll the Dead (40 Lien)

[ ] 1 Spell Scroll of Cause Fear (60 Lien)

[ ] 3 Low Quality Dust Crystals (30 Lien Each)

[ ] 6 Medium Quality Dust Crystals (80 Lien Each)

[ ] 4 High Quality Dust Crystals (150 Lien each)

OOC: Alright people, shopping trip time! Votes by plan, if you don't mind, and yes you can buy or sell multiples of each. Just make sure to calculate the totals in parenthesis. Example:

[ ] Plan Example (+210 Lien)

-[ ] Buy (-420 Lien)

--[ ] Books (-300 Lien)

---[ ] the Dance of Spheres (-200 Lien)

--- [ ] Annals of Heaven (-100 Lien)

--[ ] Items (-120 Lien)

---[ ] 2 Spell Scrolls of Druidcraft (-120 Lien)

-[ ] Sell (+630 Lien)

--[ ] 3 Low Quality Dust Crystals (+90 Lien)

--[ ] 3 Medium Quality dust Crystals (+240 Lien)

--[ ] 2 High Quality dust Crystals (+300 Lien)

P.S Yes, they're selling magic items. No, Akira won't tell you how or where they got them. The Chains of Fate is basically a pawn shop, and all sorts of things go through it, both magical and not. You'll have to build up a deeper relationship before you can learn more.

Ooof. These're all long-term investments. Planes and Celestials are things we'll run into in the future, like maybe with Weiss, but not soon. Unless something really screwy happens. It'd be something we pass along to Ozpin and let him take the front of actual research and study. The Elemental book, on the other hand, that's something we're more likley to run into and use.

I'd say our best bet would be to pony up some combination of Dust for the lot, unless for some reason we're not too enthusiastic about our current scrolls.

Hmm, I do want to grab all of the books, since those bonus's are super good. We already have dealt with extra-planar threats, so knowledge checks will be useful in the future.

[X] Plan All the books (+50 Lien)
-[X] Buy(-410 Lien)
--[X]Books(-350 Lien)
---[X] the Dance of Spheres (-200 Lien)

Tentative plan, anyone got any other suggestions?

Typos:

You catch just a glimpse as his head shifts the the side, but his ears, normally buried beneath his mess of hair, are pointed more than truly natural.

So we're also starting with 70 Lien. Always Late has a point that we'd be better off just getting the Elemental book (which just so happens to be the only one we can afford with our pocket money) for our personal ownership, since it's the one most relevant to Ruby's current circumstances, and just letting Ozpin know about these other books so he can buy them. The cost would be negligible to him, he'd probably get more out of them, and he can loan them to us for our studies when we're ready. However, I'm guessing that's not going to be allowed Quest-wise, and if we don't get them now they'll mysteriously not be available later @Ericwinter?

How much do Common Potions of Healing actually heal? Because I don't think they're really worth selling Dust crystals (which we can use to enhance spells) for when we already have Goodberry to fulfill the same purpose for free. Especially if we get Healing Spirit later like I'm planning on.

2d4+2. They are, however, something other characters can have available if you're not around.

Well there's nothing wrong with giving the books to Ozpin, or even just letting him know this shop is around. He would happily loan them to you later, it would just delay their usefulness, and make you dependent on him for access. As for general future availability, That's up to the rolls. You're not their only customer, after all. Not by a longshot.

So pretty pointless for Ruby. We should just give the Potion we already have to Yang or Aes. And if anyone wants more we can just tell them about this shop and they can buy what they wish.

That's really tempting due to the cost, though that means we can only reference the books for research sessions, we wouldn't benefit from their bonus to Knowledge checks in the field huh?

I guess I'll put together two plans that people can pick between based on the above.

[X] Plan Books Only (-60 Lien)
-[X] Buy(-350 Lien)
--[X] Books(-350 Lien)
---[X] the Dance of Spheres (-200 Lien)
---[X] The Songs of Balance (-50 Lien)

--[X] 1 Medium Quality dust Crystal (+80 Lien)
--[X] 1 High Quality dust Crystal (+150 Lien)

[X] Plan On the Wizard's Tab
-[X] Buy(-50 Lien)
--[X] Books(-50 Lien)
---[X] The Songs of Balance (-50 Lien)
-[X] Let Ozpin know about this shop so he can pay for the other books. They'd be valuable teaching materials for your magic lessons if nothing else.
