Miracles of Ancient Wonder (RWBY/D&D Homebrew)

That is some nice loot. Though I do not know how skill checks boosts like that works when we got no skill in stealth atm. Not really a DnD player. Probably should do some more adventures before Ruby grows out of the armour pieces though

But yeah, dice seems to have good dramatic timing.

hmm, 9 year old...
Traditionally speaking, in D&D and Pathfinder, magic armor adjusts to fit its wearer. I don't know if that applies here though. Advantage means that we roll twice and take the higher number.

[X]Hug the dryad.

+1 Armor of Elvenkind: While you wear this armor, all saving throws for spells you cast are made at a disadvantage, you have advantage on all Wisdom(Nature) and Wisdom(Perception)checks, and all defense rolls you make have a +2 Armor Bonus.
So is this supposed to match our selected skills, or is it just a coincidence? Regardless, we're now a lot better at Nature and Perception, as well as Stealth from the other two items. We'll be a proper Ranger yet.

[X] Hug the dryad.

I'm sure we'll get the chances to make/get our own armor as we progress. Combat skirt is still a ways away, we're about 8 years before S1?

[X] Hug the dryad.

Hug the pretty lady, for she both deserves and maybe needs one after her ordeal. And also as a thanks for the gifts.

Hope Yang doesn't get jealous at our loot... actually, will Yang get anything? She did help too.

We can give loot to Yang, right? All this elven stuff can help her sneak around if needed.
Also, from my experience in Nethack, elven armor is magical, and so logically speaking it magically fits whoever wears it.
Also, I'm sure Yang would love a cool cloak!

Alright guys, just as a fair warning, I'm going to be taking the next day or two off for a few reasons, namely I appear to be sick, and am apparently watching a family friend's dog. Sorry for the delay, but I'll keep an eye on the thread in the meantime

The Weeping Willow Part XI
[X] Hug the dryad.

You don't even hesitate in throwing yourself forward, wrapping the surprised Dryad in a tight hug, grinning so wide it hurts.

"Thank you!" You squeal with joy. After only a short moment, you feel her arms wrap around your back, hugging just as tightly.

"You may not." Willow replies humourously, echoing your previous words to her. "This is a selfish thing, my little wolf, as is the next gift I will be giving you. I would not wish you to come to harm on future endeavors." As you frown in confusion at the cryptic response, you feel Willow shift and then her voice rises slightly, "Lily Blossom."

"Yes my lady?" The little fairy responds with utmost humility, flying close and settling upon his mistress's shoulder lightly. Willow, releasing you from her arms, smiles down at her retainer.

"Relax, my loyal knight." Willow orders with a laugh that chimes through the air like a ringing bell. "You have done well this day to find the aid I had sent you for. Tell me, how does the little wolf and her companion strike you?" Lily, seemingly surprised by the sudden praise and question following, blinks for a moment in thought before answering.

"Lady Rose is one of the purest hearts I have ever met, greatly blessed by the Choir, and clever besides. It was her scheme which saw the greatest of our enemies brought low before the battle even began, and her magic which saved both your and my life with nary a consideration of their cost to herself. Her sister is less momentous, but a fierce protector and willing to follow the younger into danger to keep her safe." He replies eventually, ignoring the offended shout of "Hey!" coming from Yang at his original brush-off. Willow, unsurprised in the slightest, nods.

"So you would say they are pleasant to be around?" She queries, getting a stalwart nod from Lily.

"I could not say for certain, but if our short time together is any indication then I would say yes. But why do you wish to know?" here you start to feel an inkling of suspicion churn in your gut, and you turn to look narrow-eyed at the small, mischievous smile on Willow's lips, her eyes near-sparkling with mirth as she glanced towards you as well.

"Why, because you will be guarding her after all!" She practically blurts out, the dryad unable to hold in her glee any more ass she grins widely at both you and Lily. Wait, what?

How do you respond?

[ ] Write-in

OOC: Realized a while after posting the last chapter that I never changed the color of Willow's text. It was originally supposed to be green, for those of you wondering, and I'll be editing that shortly.
P.S. I've been waiting to first write this scene since I first conceived of Willow and Lily.

[X] Well you'd never say no to hanging out with friends, though this will be even more stuff that you have no idea how you're going to explain to your Dad. But if Lily's guarding you, then who will be guarding Lady Willow?

Without him fulfilling his duties Ruby might not have been able to help her in time, and I'm not seeing any other vassals around, fairy or otherwise. It doesn't feel safe leaving her alone.

While you don't know this in-character, there are others either scattered after the devils attacked, or out doing much the same as Lily was, and your cleansing basically sent out a massive beacon to anyone even mildly sensitive to the Choir. Her... not quite a court, but Coterie, will quite quickly gather once again, and this time they'll be ready for future attacks.

Still a thing Ruby would probably ask. Good to know IC also.

Yeah, this seems like the best response, lets us agree while making sure our concerns are met.

You frown in thought as you consider Willow's words. While you would never say no to more friends, it seems somewhat foolish to send away her only protector, and so you speak up while Lily himself is still struggling to absorb the news.

"And what of you, Lady Willow? I do not mind Lily accompanying me home, but you have already been assaulted once. Would sending away your only guardian be truly wise?" You ask, but Willow simply laughs.

"Lily is far from my only protector, Little Wolf, and even now they return to see the work you have wrought. We will be ready this time." She pauses then, glancing down at Lily who has set his face in an almost mutinous expression as he waits for a chance to speak, before sighing. "This is not a punishment, my Knight. The task I ask of you now is most sacred."

"Why then?" Lily asks, not quite begging but as close to it as the proud fairy would come, drawing yet another sigh from his mistress as she lifts her hand to trail fingers along his sharp jaw.

"Young Ruby has earned herself my friendship till the end of days, and I would not see her harmed if it was but in my power to prevent it. But darkness stalks the land, and a heart as pure as hers could hardly stray from chaos and danger for long. You are my most loyal knight, Lily. I would entrust no other with the task." It is, you think, surprisingly touching to hear yourself spoken of in such a way, but this is not your moment, and so you hold your tongue as Lily looks up at Willow with frustrated tears in his eyes.

"I just got you back, My Lady. Don't make me leave so soon." He beseeched her, and this time it truly did slip into the realm of begging, as a man might beg their gods to allow their oaths honor. Willow does not laugh this time, but there is still a soft amusement in her tone as she speaks once again.

"Oh Lily, you foolish boy. I will not be far. Why, Ruby and her kin live not an hour away, do they not? You may visit me any time you wish, and I hope you do." That, finally, strikes Lily dumb as he blinks rapidly for a moment in confusion, before understanding dawns on his features. The next moment, he is blushing sheepishly, turning away and bending his wings so as to hide his now crimson face.

"Oh." He says quietly, and you cannot help but giggle. at the little fairy's dramatics. After a moment, however, Lily seemed to brighten up a touch, fluttering over to land on your shoulders and look up at you. Then he turns back to Willow, who is sporting a quiet grin. "Very well, My Lady. As you command, so it shall be. I will guard the Lady Rose and her kin with my very life." Willow's grin widens, and she nods.

"As you say." Then she turns to you, and suddenly her face is solemn, if cheerful. "Farewell, Lady Rose. May your song always bear a chorus."

"Goodbye, Willow." You reply, and with a single farewell smile, the Dryad slowly starts to fade from existence, her body dissolving into a thousand leaves that are carried away on the wind. A moment later, you fell Yang's hand settling on your shoulder, and you glance up to see her smiling down at you.

"Look at you, Rubes. Not even ten and you're already living your dream. I'm so proud!" You shrug, blushing slightly at the praise.

"It was nothing." is your reply, but Yang just keeps on smiling and eventually you pout before turning away. "Come on," You tell both Yang and Lily. "Let's go home."

What do you tell Dad about your day?

[ ] Nothing. Lily can easily stay hidden, and you're still not entirely certain how you plan to explain magic.

[ ] Partial Truth. Tell him you went on an adventure, made some friends, slew some monsters, and even saved a pretty lady. He'll probably think you were just playing a game, but if ever asked you can always say you told the truth.

[ ] Everything. Introduce Lily, demonstrate your magic, the works. It's time he knew.

OOC: I wrote this entire chapter while hiccuping like crazy. I hope you appreciate my dedication. Also, Lily may be a posh and noble fairy knight, but he's still basically a teenager and doesn't really compute complicated things.

[X] Everything. Introduce Lily, demonstrate your magic, the works. It's time he knew.
Ruby would spill ALL the beans due to excitement overload! Maybe Tai had seen some fairies in his time living here, himself?

[X] Everything. Introduce Lily, demonstrate your magic, the works. It's time he knew.

Now in future quests the excuse of Qrow or Tai not accompanying us because they're "too busy to go playing in the woods" is no longer valid.

BTW @Ericwinter we still haven't gotten a look at the glaive before we leave. Are you just making an executive decision on not letting Ruby take it as her righteously won adventuring loot?

I wanna see how far we can take this and the sheer amount of wtf-ery that the two would have when they finally do figure it out.

I honestly forgot about that. Uh, can I get a consensus here guys? I don't need a formal vote or anything, but taking the Glaive would probably require "[ ] Everything" winning anyways. Otherwise you'll have to explain where you got the giant and vicious looking weapon.

But doesn't that already apply to the super fancy armor and cloak Ruby's already been gifted? I would've thought that any less-than-open approach would've involved them sneaking any suspicious equipment into the house along with Lily before actually approaching Tai.
