MEDIC! - Trauma-Team Quest: A Cyberpunk 2020 MedTech Adventure

[X] Go out for a nice dinner, somewhere local. Get dressed up and make it a proper Date Night
[x] Ask Doc Lee Sr. for that help he offered

Let's ask our new shadowy connection , we probably don't have the money or pull for the other options sadly.

All of the options posted are feasible for the clinic at the moment - we won't have to worry about finances for a few more posts. I'm playing around with a new funding system that's a little more abstract and hopefully engaging than counting Eurodollars.

We should have had Widget secure the Kiroshi while our MC deals with the Shadow Medicine guy....

We could have swapped some Kiroshis for his stuff and maybe earned favour

There is something I kinda wanna ask about, and not just here but in all the other Edgerunners/2077 fics/quests I'm a part of, why is there so much dislike towards Cyberware? In forum, not in game/fic (although some fics have this heavy implecation of chrome hate or avoidance.). It's a integral part of the story and themes of the genre. The transhumanism aspects make cyberpunk settings interesting. Why try to remove/ignore a core aspect of the setting? Especially since it's canon that a Borged up opponent is basically a walking tank that moves and reacts faster then a basic 1.0 human body can react. Not really all that relevant here, of course. But the question still should be asked. More peoples pov and all that.

Probably because you lose humanity over it which may lead you to cyberpsychosis and losing a part of yourself. David and Maine's death also didn't help. If it was Risk-free or if there were ways to gain back Humanity probably wouldn't be a problem at all. Like in 40k quests and stories most times people want to borg up cause it's risk-free and you become better.

I don't think anyone here is against Cyberware in the story?

That aside, it's true that Cyberware is better than flesh, but as a genre dominated by soulless megacorporations, it's also a very explicit metaphor for selling oneself to a megacorp. Changing your flesh for metal with a company logo on it essentially makes it so that the corp owns you since once you get a taste, you'll always need more of it to keep yourself competitive in your field.

Transhumanism in Cyberpunk comes with chains. It's not the paradise that most people who hope for Transhumanism want.

You can gain back humanity mechanically! You go to therapy for it, essentially. Contrary to the popular perception of 2077 and Edgerunners, excessive ware use does cause cyberpychosis - but only in extreme. It's a "World of Tissue-paper" problem, for those who know what that is. That said, Humanity Loss can be restored by removing the ware and careful therapy.

@VampirelordX if you're wondering why I didn't put a ton of emphasis on mechanical ware in a cyberpunk heavy game about, y'know, installing cyberware, that's a me thing - There a) aren't a lot of medtechie oriented cyberware options and b) it's mechanically crunchy in a way I personally do not enjoy. Crunchy combat and gear-porn heavy systems aren't really my jam, personally, and I didn't want to delay the quest by theorycrafting the "best" cyberware suite you could possibly build.

And let's be honest; our character wouldn't be interested in 'borging up with various military grade systems.

Understated you couldn't afford the fashionable things, Elegant you dont want to be reminded of the degradation of where you came from , and Efficient you've seen what excess and just because leads too

just my sort of interpretation of character motivation on some level

Bioware is better anyway as intro Implants/Augments.

But yes, Corpos get a tether on you once you are Chromed out.

If Cyberware could be acquired with more variety or utility then great, but to do so in Night City means either importing or doing the equivelant of Jailbreaking your Phone to strip out all of the Inflated and Malware ridden Software etc, even then stuff is built with pretedetermined obsolesence to force you to buy more, so even if you streamline and use Custom OS etc, you are still on a Timer.

The only way around that other than Importing is getting stuff Custom Made or Making it yourself.

I have the barest of exposure to Cyberpunk, dabbled more into Shadowrun being honest, but this is interesting. Keeping watch and hoping I can make it for the next vote

I think also that the "Hugh Jackman on Men's Fitness cover vs Hugh Jackman on the Home and Garden cover" effect would have some play here.

Basically the difference between aspiring to chrome as a personal power fantasy vs aspiring to a bio-natural look to be social, friendly, and attractive. The threatening inhumanity of power vs the loneliness created by that inhumanity.

I might be the only one who thinks that the main dude in edgerunners got a lot less attractive when he bulked out with chrome? But I think it's fairly obvious that inhuman/dangerous chrome as a vibe is almost mandatory for male-presenting folk, and a minority option for female presenting folk. How much of that is just corps running off of male-gaze standards and how much is self-selected is an open question to me.

So my bet is that the higher up you get on the "have actual power" Corp/politician spectrum, the more looking obviously dangerous places you as a piece rather than a player.

That is true, but I can totally see her spending her hard earned eddies in any of the Chrome available un the Character Creation... As all of them that we didn't picked up offer great utility as a doctor, and some combat options that can save our life in a pinch, while not being ridiculously over the top.

So @Doordox would it be possible to acquire eventually the Cyberware that we had available in the character creation?

I hadn't planned on it, but I don't see why not, eventually!

Help me solve my writers block, with a quick microvote, folks!
I like to do character interludes in between the main body posts both to develop sideplots and to give hints at the world outside Avalon clinic - however my outline for this current chapter has a bunch of different ways we could do with things, and I'm having trouble deciding what'll open the next post, and thus, how the post will be framed.
Help me decide! Would you rather meet:
[ ] Mdm. Butterfly - a local fixer*
[ ] Bounce - a local street samurai*
[ ] Check in with Brent Steel inside the Black Lotus Club*
[ ] Check in with Raúl, the Valentino who got Kai and his sister their tickets
[ ] or someone else - feel free to offer suggestions here.
This isn't a one and done vote: the ones with the *'s are ones I have plans for already, but knowing What The People Want might give me a little juice to actually finish this post in a reasonable time frame. As a result, I won't really count these votes, but instead use them to foster discussion and as a litmus check for the audience.
Thanks! Hopefully, this'll help me post sooner.

I am interested both in continuing the existing plot thread, and in meeting someone new.
