Chapter-1 Creation of Mutants
The primitive Earth, filled with towering trees and dangerous predators, was also host to the ancestors of humanity.

The Homo erectus, the species that would evolve to become Homo sapiens in a million years, represented the pre-evolutionary forms of modern humans.

One such tribe of wanderers was dwelling in one of the ancient jungles of Earth.

The Homo erectus resembled apes in form, using their lower limbs for walking and upper limbs for delicate tool-making.

The tribe of primitive men was going on with its daily life, unknown to them that Earth had welcomed visitors from outer space.

Outside the orbit of Earth, floating in space, stood four towering giants larger than the planet.

The arrival of the cosmic gods turned day into night in an instant, due to the shadows cast by their giant bodies.

The disappearance of the sun caused panic among the tribe of Homo erectus. Before they could make sense of the situation, the members of the tribe took off from the ground and floated toward the sky.

Four Celestials hovered around Earth, dwarfing the planet. A massive structure materialized out of the vacuum.

The tribes of Homo erectus and other varying species entered the massive structure through an opening and disappeared into the giant futuristic ship.

The Celestials are ancient gods that seed planets with life; they protect the balance of the universe.

The Celestials were on one such mission of protecting the balance of the universe.

Gamon the Gatherer collected a plethora of specimens; the other Celestials were tasked with other roles.

In the halls of the ship, the different species that were captured were suspended in animation.

The three Celestials experimented on the species, altering their biology in different ways.

Ziran the Tester finished his modification of the species first. The group of Homo erectus Ziran worked on turned into green beasts with different appearances.

Right after, Nezzar the Calculator finished his experimentation. The species of Homo erectus were transformed drastically from their previous forms; their bodies were sculpted to perfection, with cosmic energy flowing through their veins.

Finally, Oneg the Prober completed his alteration of the species of Earth. The species he worked on didn't look much different than before, but his alterations imbued the species with potential that may be realized in the far future.

The biological alteration of the species by the three Celestials gave birth to three distinct branches of Homo erectus: the Deviants (Homo descendus), Eternals (Homo immortalis), and Mutants (Homo superior), respectively.

The Celestials released the beastly Deviants, intelligent Eternals, and the primitive humans back to Earth and disappeared into thin air.

The tribe of Homo erectus, who were in a state of panic—flying in the sky one moment and unconscious the next—calmed down after being back in their usual habitat.

The simple minds of the Homo erectus forgot the whole incident and carried on with their usual lives of hunting and foraging.
But this momentary peace was disturbed by a small group of newly created Deviants who attacked the tribe.

The Deviants, who were far superior in strength and size compared to Homo erectus, overcame the disadvantage of small numbers and killed the group of ape-men who defended the tribe.

All the effort of the Homo erectus could only reduce the number of Deviants by one.

The Deviants left none of the tribe alive; the place where the tribe lived was covered with mangled corpses, limbs, stone tools, and fur.

Among the corpses was one female Homo erectus, lying dead with a bulging stomach, pregnant with an unborn baby.
The primitive human baby lay curled up in the placenta; the death of the mother cut off the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the fetus.

If one could see the shape of souls, one would find, upon observing the fetus, a creature that resembled nothing like an ape. It looked like a mangled flesh of human, stitched together into a hodgepodge of a soul monstrosity.

Adjacent to the material world, in the astral world, a purple spectral being was fighting with the soul of the ape fetus for domination of its physical body.

The purple spectral beings are Mummudrai. A Mummudrai is born alongside every living being without any physical form. They fight their twin for dominance of the body; most of the Mummudrai die in this battle or are cast into the pits of the psychic underworld.

But a few Mummudrai who are powerful enough to possess the mind of their twin are reborn anew.

One such Mummudrai was fighting the mangled soul of the dying fetus; the Mummudrai resembled the fetus in its physical form. This battle between the soul of the ape and Mummudrai continued for a while.

Adam's Pov

"How long will I be stuck in this darkness? Can I ever wake up and see the world, feel the sun shining on my face?" questioned Adam.

Adam was struck in the endless darkness for who knows how long. The huge amount of time blurred his memories. He was stuck with only the awareness of his own thoughts.

With no other soul to talk to, Adam spent most of the time in bouts of mad ravings, with an occasional short period of clarity. Now was one such period of clarity.

This agony was a new sensation, an unpleasant sensation, a new sensation nonetheless. Oblivious, the source of the agony was the Mummudrai that was attacking his soul.

In the physical world, the Mummudrai took the upper hand in the battle with Adam's mangled soul. The physical body of Adam, the ape fetus, was close to death as the last of the oxygen from the bloodstream of the mother was running out.

The corpse of the mother Homo erectus was strewn across the grass, for the scavengers of the forest to consume.

The heartbeat of the fetus slowed down and came to a halt; the Mummudrai won the fight with Adam's soul and took control of the body.

Adam's consciousness sank into the endless depths of the unknown, moments before the Mummudrai could dominate his mind.

Chapter-2 Reincarnated as an Ape Man
Adam Sinclair's consciousness experienced something different, something beyond the usual darkness he had become so accustomed to.

He found himself standing in a vast chamber that seemed to stretch infinitely in every direction. He could see his hands and feet, and as each second passed, the murkiness clouding his vision began to clear.

Adam dropped to his knees, clutching his face in his hands. Tears streamed down, wetting his fingers. It took him a while to gather himself—the overwhelming flood of sensory stimuli was unlike anything he'd experienced before.

When he finally steadied himself, he glanced around, searching for any hint or clue as to his location. In front of him, a massive altar loomed in the distance, and he sensed no other presence nearby. The ground around him was illuminated by soft starlight from three stars hanging high in the sky.

With no other option, Adam began walking toward the altar. He stumbled a few times, and the minutes seemed to stretch into hours, yet he felt no physical fatigue. Despite the long walk, he appeared to have boundless energy. After what felt like hours, he finally reached the altar and noticed two figures standing near it.

One figure was an eight-meter-tall, humanoid gray alien, encased in futuristic armor; the other was a child, appearing no older than twelve, dressed in simple robes.

Approaching them, Adam raised a hand in greeting and introduced himself. "Hi, I'm Adam Sinclair. Do you have any idea where we are?"

At first, there was no reply. Both the alien and the child stared at him with intense gazes.

"Can you understand me? I'm asking where we are and what this place is," Adam pressed, gesturing with his hands to communicate.

The child smirked, seemingly amused by Adam's attempts. Finally, he spoke. "Adam, we thought no one else would show up for a long time after what happened with Apex."

He continued, "Let me introduce myself. My name is Asura, and the tall guy here is Apex."

"It's nice to meet you, Asura and Apex. Do you know what this place is? I don't quite remember how I got here," Adam replied.

Asura's tone softened as he explained, "Well, Adam, this place we're standing in—it's our graveyard. All three of us are dead."

Adam felt a shock course through him. The long years he'd spent in a dark limbo suddenly made sense—he had died.

Asura continued, "Although we're dead, there's still hope. This place, this altar, has been known to grant people a chance to reincarnate in other worlds—some of which we once thought were fictional."

"You're telling me I'm dead and might reincarnate in a fictional world?" Adam asked, trying to grasp the situation.

"Not quite. While each of us did die once, we somehow find ourselves alive in this place. I suspect you're already reincarnated," Asura explained. "Do you have any sense of where you are?"

Adam absorbed this new information, carefully considering Asura's words.

"If I am reincarnated, then why am I here? And why can't I feel my body?" Adam questioned.

Apex, the tall figure, responded, "I can answer that. You don't always reincarnate as a human. I, for instance, am partly alien, with the potential of a human combined with the strength of a Martian. I was created to battle the endless forces of Perpetua. I am the apex predator."

Apex went on, "I've been fighting Perpetua's forces for thousands of years. I was the first to arrive in this place, and it was thousands of years later that Asura joined me. We didn't expect anyone else for a long time."

Asura added, "I was reincarnated in Tokyo in the modern world. But before I could live a normal life, I was summoned to another world—specifically, the world of *Tensura*. I had no special abilities and was left to fend for myself. Still, it was better than being enslaved."

"Asura advised, "It's highly likely you've been reincarnated as well. You might still be unborn or perhaps are now a species with different senses. Every world is unique. For me, it was *Tensura*, while we believe Apex found himself in a past version of the DC Universe."

After listening to Asura and Apex, Adam began to accept the possibility of his reincarnation. Worry started to creep in. "Do you think I can survive? I've never even thrown a punch in my life."

"You're not entirely helpless," Asura reassured him. "This place isn't just for summoning souls. It allows us to share memories with each other—a feature that has helped us survive. If you're open to it, Apex and I can share some of our memories with you. In exchange, you can share any memories you're comfortable with."

Adam thought for a while. Although the idea of sharing memories felt strange, he realized that gaining combat experience could help him survive in this new life.

"So, how does this work?" he asked. "Don't tell me it involves some weird ritual, or I'm out."

Asura and Apex laughed at his reaction.

"No, nothing weird," they replied in unison. "Just be prepared. Once we touch you, you might be transported back to your body."

They placed their hands on Adam's shoulders, and his consciousness was suddenly whisked away. He reappeared within his soul form, currently being possessed by a Mummudrai. An intense influx of memories surged through him as he entered a state of suspended time, returning just as the Mummudrai nearly completed its possession attempt.

A powerful force emerged within him, merging the alien presence with his fragmented soul. In place of his damaged soul, there now stood a vibrant, purple essence with distinctive markings.

He emerged into the real world, tearing free from his mother's womb, covered in amniotic fluid. He rapidly grew from a small, ape-like creature to a full-grown adult Homo erectus in mere moments.

Standing tall, he muttered his first words in this new life.

"Damn, how did I become such an idiot? Those jerks didn't tell me they were me."

Chapter-3 Birth of the First Mutant
Adam felt his new body; the ape body felt similar to the human form, with a few differences in head shape and hair covering his entire body.

The memories he shared with Asura and Apex were mostly inconsequential. The memories he received from Apex were of thousands of years of battles with aliens, gods, and demons. The memories from Asura were of growing up in Tokyo and being summoned as an otherworlder.

Along with these memories came two sets of memories of Adam Sinclair, right up to the moment of his unfortunate death.

These memories were identical to his own, with no noticeable differences. Adam wanted to find out if these memories truly belonged to Asura and Apex, so he promptly entered the Chamber. There, he found Asura and Apex.

"So you both are Adam Sinclair? I find this more bizarre than the whole reincarnation ordeal," said Adam, looking at Apex and Asura.

"I wanted to tell you in the beginning, but remembering how we usually react to this kind of information, I thought it would be better if you found out through the memories," said Apex, glancing at Asura, who wore a sheepish smile.

"We are Adam Sinclair. So, you both come from another universe?" Adam asked.

"We were Adam Sinclair up until our deaths; our lives diverged from that point onward," said Asura.

"I still don't know what's happening to us, but I know for sure that at our core, we are Adam Sinclair. Even if I fought for thousands of years in an alien body, and even if Asura lived an entirely new life in Tokyo, we are still Adam Sinclair," said Apex.

"So, what should I do now? I can't find a general idea of where I am. This body looks like an ape, and the place seems to be some kind of forest," Adam said.

"Let's share our memories again. The memory-sharing function in this space allows us to experience all memories from the moment of birth; it's like a limited amnesia," Asura explained while extending his hands toward Apex and Adam.

The trio—Adam, Apex, and Asura—held hands as memories from each of them began to flow through the others. All of their memories emerged, including those of the mummudrai, which had attacked and fused with Adam.

The three didn't stop the memory sync. Adam shared memories he had kept to himself during the first sync and more actively tried to digest Apex's years of combat experience. They broke off after all memories had been shared.

"You seem to have merged with something strange, Adam," said Apex.

"Damn, why do weird things always happen to me?" Adam muttered, while Apex and Asura looked at him with deadpan expressions.

"That's not the main thing you need to worry about. We're not in immediate danger, but if anyone here is in a sketchy situation, it's you. You should start looking for food, water, and some shelter," advised Asura.

"Get yourself a weapon, like a stone or sharp stick. You'll need it to fend off any beasts that may attack," said Apex.

"Okay, I'll meet you again once I'm in a safe place. See you then, Adam Sinclairs," Adam said as he willed himself to appear outside the Chamber.

Adam's consciousness returned to his Homo erectus body without a second passing since he'd left it.

He looked around patiently, finding the scattered limbs and guts of beings that looked similar to him.

He found the body of the female Homo erectus from which he had emerged and touched her head. In that moment, new information entered his mind.

As he placed his hand on the body's mother, an intuition arose, and he acted upon it.

Adam nudged a metaphorical limb as the torn stomach and other damaged parts of his dead mother's body grew tendrils of flesh, reattaching themselves as they had been before.

This act of tissue reattachment disturbed a well of power within him.

He investigated the strange sensation coming from the depths of his body. He looked at his mother's now-uninjured body, stood up, closed his eyes, and searched for the source of this feeling of power.

In the depths of Adam's psyche, he saw flashes of a purple realm with phantoms roaming around. As he went deeper, he saw a lone ember burning in the darkness. He reached for the ember, and the moment his hand touched it, he unknowingly utilized the mummudrai's DNA manipulation powers to activate latent genes bestowed by the Celestials.

Adam's body grew in size, instinctively using the DNA manipulation powers from birth. He expanded from the size of a newborn to that of an adult in a few seconds but now was actively using it to unlock his full potential.

The mummudrai held a special power: they could replicate the DNA of their twin-born and materialize a body for their corporeal forms. As astral beings, they could use psionic energy and even unlock latent potential in others by kickstarting their DNA.

As a half-human, half-mummudrai hybrid in soul, Adam could access all the power of his mutant genetics, reaching his full potential.

The fur on his body ignited, burning brilliantly without harm as he bathed in flames.

The burning Adam opened his eyes and looked at the corpses of the Homo erectus around him. He approached one corpse after another, stacking them into a pile. While handling the bodies, the genetic information of each flashed in his mind before disappearing.

Among the corpses of Homo erectus, he found a green-skinned corpse belonging to a Deviant and briefly learned its genetic makeup before forgetting it.

He set the pile of corpses on a funeral pyre with his newly awakened mutant power.

The fire consumed the corpses without difficulty, spreading their ashes into the air and leaving no remains. He looked at the sun setting in the sky, absorbing its rays, and set off in search of survival.

On this day, the first mutant on Earth was born—a mutant at the alpha level.

Chapter-4 Highwalker
Adam walked through the dense jungles, dodging the occasional beast and burning the ones that presumed him an easy prey with his newly awakened mutant powers.

While walking through the terrain, his body suffered from occasional wounds from the thorny flora around him. Before the blood could even clot, the small gashes healed themselves.

Adam could feel the instinctive control he held over his flesh as he looked at the squiggling flesh joining together. The journey was spent experimenting with his mutant powers.

He observed the landscape, searching for any traces of water. He journeyed on foot with his head on fire, which functioned as lighting in the darkness of the forest and also kept the predators at bay. His journey came to an end when he reached a clearing that looked very different from its surroundings.

The area appeared to be completely burned, with no plant or animal present. The soil had an ashen quality, and the atmosphere around the place was filled with eerie silence.

Adam knelt as he grabbed a fistful of soil in his hands and examined it. He heard a squawking above him, and upon observation, he found flocks of vultures flying in the air. His sight was fixated on them as he stood in a daze, watching them flying in the sky.

"You shouldn't be here."

Adam heard a voice in his head. Instinctively, he covered his hands in flames and swiftly turned his head back to look for the source of the words spoken to him. The first thing he saw was a human floating in the air, which surprised him.

"You shouldn't be here; you should leave," words came from the floating man, even though his mouth didn't move.

"Why can't I be here?" asked Adam, but all that came out were growls from his mouth.

"You can understand me," relayed the floating man with a look of surprise on his face, partly at Adam's ability to understand him and partly at Adam's hands being on fire.

"Yes, I can understand. Was I not supposed to understand?" replied Adam.

"Your kind is primitive in their intelligence. My every contact with them resulted in hostility," replied the floating man.

"I suspect the only reason you can understand me is because you are different. Like me, you are an outcast. I am Highwalker," said Highwalker.

"What do you mean when you say I shouldn't be here?" asked Adam.

"This burnt place is where the tribes sacrifice the oddities. They leave anything that looks different than them in this dreary place for the vultures to feast on. You wouldn't have a good time if they saw you," replied Highwalker.

"So, you are an outcast of the tribe," replied Adam as he closely looked at the atrophied body of Highwalker as it floated in the air.

"I'm a cripple from birth, cast away by my own family to die in this very place. I survived with the help of my powers—the very powers I'm using now to talk to you and to move," said Highwalker.

While they were conversing, both Adam and Highwalker heard a commotion in the distance.

"Let's leave this place; the tribe is coming here for another sacrifice," said Highwalker as he urged Adam to follow him. They both left the burnt place and hid in the distance, watching a tribe of humans in fur clothing, with torches in their hands, arriving at the place Adam had been a couple of minutes ago.

One of the older members of the tribe placed a child down. The members of the tribe circled and danced around the child in a ritualistic manner. At the end, they placed the corpse of a dead animal beside the child and left.

"The tribes around the burnt place are xenophobic. This isn't a rare occasion; they sacrifice children who look out of the norm a couple of times a year," said Highwalker.

"Let's rescue the child; it may not survive if left alone for long," said Highwalker.

"Why do you care for a child that even the whole tribe cast aside to die?" asked Adam, as his and the other selves' memories of thousands of years dulled his empathy for life a lot.

"A long time ago, just like today, the tribe left a red-haired child here. In my cowardice, avoiding confrontation with the tribe, I let the child be taken away by a pack of wolves. I decided from that day I wouldn't let another of our kind die," replied Highwalker.

"I understand what it is like to be alone with no kin to speak of. Let's rescue the child," said Adam as he remembered his past life and painful memories in the void.

Adam walked toward the one-eyed child under the cover of darkness as Highwalker moved behind, floating in the air.

While they were walking, Adam saw in the darkness a group of wolves approaching the child. Seeing this, Highwalker panicked as he was reminded of his past.

The wolves surrounded the child. Adam's body lit up in fire. Before anything worse could happen, amidst the pack of wolves, a child with red hair reaching down to her waist picked up the child and swaddled it in her arms.

This surprised both Adam and Highwalker, who were preparing to drive the wolves away to protect the child. Adam put out his flames as Highwalker communicated with his telepathy from a distance.

"Child, I cannot convey how happy I am to see you alive," said Highwalker as he and Adam stood in front of the little girl.

The child panicked, seeing a human floating and a beastly Neanderthal in front of her.

"It seems that you hold the same fascination as me about our kin who are cast away like us," said Highwalker as the one-eyed baby in the child's arms floated toward him.

The child, seeing the floating man speak directly in her mind and the floating baby, freaked out. Along with her pack of wolves, she ran away from Adam and Highwalker, who had a look of disbelief.

"That's not how you placate a child; you shouldn't have used your powers," said Adam.

"I know. It's just that I was excited to find the child alive, who I thought had died because of me," said Highwalker.

"What should I do? I lost her again just after I found her," said Highwalker.

"If she survived years in this cruel place, you don't have to worry—no harm will come to her," said Adam.

"Then let's return to the tribe—a tribe of outcasts just like me. Would you join us?" said Highwalker.

"I have no home to return to, so I don't see any problem. I agree," said Adam.

"Okay, then let's return to the Tribe of No Fear," said Highwalker.

Chapter-5 Firehair
Adam and Highwalker walked through the forest and reached a cave dwelling. Upon entering, Adam noticed individuals who looked distinct from one another physically.

Most of them looked completely distinct from one another. Some had a head resembling a goat, and others, a bat. Only one of the members of the Tribe of No Fear resembled a human.

"This is the new member of our tribe," said Highwalker, handing out the floating, one-eyed child to one of the members of the tribe. The other members looked at the baby in curiosity, while some gazed at Adam with vigilance.

"He will stay with us for a while. You don't have to fear; he is just like us," said Highwalker, as Adam walked in front of him and demonstrated his fire powers.

Upon seeing Adam's hands ignite in flames, one of the members, who had scaled red skin, came in front of him and lit up his own hand in fire, showing he could do the same.

The Tribe of No Fear relaxed their vigilance after Adam's demonstration and shifted their attention toward the baby.

"I didn't ask if you had a name. Would you like me to give you one?" asked Highwalker.

"My name is Adam," replied Adam.

"Adam, what do you think about joining our tribe?" asked Highwalker.

"I will stay for a while. I can't promise after that," replied Adam. While this conversation was going on in their heads, they heard an echo of someone walking in the cave. After hearing that, Adam's body ignited in full force, lighting up the cave.

Adam quickly found the culprit behind the noise. It was the red-haired girl who had run away from the couple hours ago. She had followed them somehow without both him and Highwalker noticing her.

The girl seemed frozen in place after being caught red-handed and contemplated running once again. Before she could dash off into the distance, Highwalker spoke to her again.

"Child, you have nothing to fear. No one here will harm you. We are just like you," said Highwalker, while Adam reduced the intensity of his flames. Meanwhile, the members of the Tribe of No Fear looked at the red-haired child with curiosity.

The child stood still, conflicted about what action to take. In the end, she made a decision and walked down from the cave wall, along with her wolf companions, to stand in front of Highwalker and Adam.

"Child, do you see them? Just like you, they are different," said Highwalker to the child as he spoke telepathically, surprising her with the absurdity of him speaking without moving his mouth.

"Are you surprised, child, that I can talk to you in your mind? Just like you communicate with those wolves, I can speak to others with my mind and make objects float," said Highwalker, while using his powers to make a rock float in the air.

The child nodded in understanding. Even though she lacked knowledge of language, she could comprehend Highwalker because of his telepathic communication.

"Child, what do you think about joining our tribe—a family of outcasts?" asked Highwalker.

A child whose only memories of family were a pack of wolves couldn't resist the idea of a family that was different like her. She agreed with aggressive nodding.

"Then, child, from now on, you are a member of the Tribe of No Fear. You are Firehair," said Highwalker.

That's how a new member joined the Tribe of No Fear. Days passed after Firehair's arrival. Adam spent his time learning to control his powers while Highwalker taught Firehair the budding abilities of telepathy and telekinesis that seemed to emerge from her.

This relative peace came to an end one day. Adam was sitting on a rock, contemplating what to do next, while Firehair was playing in front of him, making a rock float in the air. This tranquil atmosphere was disturbed as Firehair fell to the ground, held her head with her arms, and screamed in pain.

Adam hurried to comfort Firehair, who, struggling, conveyed what was causing her pain.

"The tribes—they are coming. They know we live here," said Firehair, using her budding telepathy.

Adam hurried out of the cave to see if what Firehair had said was true. Upon exiting, he noticed a congregation of humans moving in their direction.

"Warn Highwalker. Take the other members of the tribe to hide," Adam instructed Firehair before moving in the direction of the approaching tribes.

"I will hold the humans off for a while. If they don't retreat, escape from the cave—it is no longer safe to stay here," said Adam.

Adam and the xenophobic tribes met in the middle. Upon seeing Adam, there were calls for his murder among the tribes. The members of the tribe held torches, spears, and stone weapons.

Meanwhile, Firehair ran through the rocks of the cave, searching for Highwalker. She found him along with the other members of the tribe.

"The tribes—they are coming here. They're angry. We must leave," informed Firehair telepathically, panicked.

"Where is Adam?" asked Highwalker.

"He is confronting the mob. He said he would hold them back," said Firehair.

"How can he stop them when they can't understand him? No—I will stop them before anyone gets hurt," said Highwalker, floating outward from the cave.

Before Highwalker could reach Adam, he was met by a mob of humans surrounding the cave. Both Adam and Highwalker were confronted by angry mobs in different places—Adam at the burned clearing and Highwalker at the cave entrance.

The frenzied mob threw stones at Adam, but the stones passed through his body without harming him. This newfound ability had been unearthed through his practice of his powers. He had discovered that he could phase through matter, control animals' bodies, and read their surface thoughts. Adam also found something interesting, as Apex had mentioned: both Highwalker and Firehair could only communicate with him by reading the thoughts he projected outward using psionic powers that came from being part Mummudrai. However, they couldn't successfully enter his mind, as the "Chamber of Adam" seemed to shield it.

Adam manipulated fire into a wall in front of him, slowly pushing the mob backward as they attempted to attack him with stone weapons and spears. One particularly angry tribesman ran into the fire without fear and was promptly engulfed in flames, burning alive. Seeing one of their own die before them at the hands of what they deemed an aberrant, the mob grew more enraged and charged the fire with reckless abandon.

Chapter-6 Phoenix
Adam tried his best, dodging the weapons that were thrown at him. At the same time, he tried to keep his distance from those dashing towards him as they burned in the fires he summoned.

One-fourth of the tribe had already jumped into the fire. Before they could make sense of what was happening, they were burned to a crisp, their charred remains left scattered on the ashy ground.

This seemed to intimidate the tribe as a whole. After a sizable number of them died with no harm done to Adam, they backed off, withdrawing from their attack.

Adam didn't pursue the retreating tribes. As they disappeared from view, he looked at the bloodbath he had caused. Among the charred remains, he saw something that looked vaguely human. Despite years of loneliness in the darkness and the haunting memories of Apex dulling his empathy, his emotions were slowly returning while he stayed with Highwalker and Firehair.

Even though he still looked like a Neanderthal, he was human at heart. If Adam could have avoided it, he wouldn't have killed the tribe's attackers. But he had no choice—if he hadn't defended himself, he would have been the one lying lifeless on the ground.

Adam sighed, a look of disappointment adorning his beastly face. He turned back and marched towards the cave to inform them that he had taken care of the Xeno Tribes.

On his way, Adam spotted Firehair walking towards him. As they came closer, he noticed something different about her. Her clothes were torn, and tears streamed down her face.

Firehair noticed Adam too. She ran to him and started bawling as she spoke via telepathy.

"They're dead. They died because of me. They died because I'm cursed," said Firehair.

"Dead? Tell me what happened, Firehair," Adam inquired.

Before she could respond, a swishing sound filled the air as a rain of wooden spears descended on them, piercing both him and Firehair.

Adam turned towards the source of the spears and saw the tribes that had fled returning with reinforcements. He pulled out the spears lodged in his flesh, and the wounds healed in the blink of an eye. However, Firehair's condition was far worse.

A spear had pierced through her abdomen and exited her back. The life in Firehair's eyes slowly faded. Adam pulled the spear from her stomach and tried to heal the wound using his Mummudrai powers, but the healing was too slow. Meanwhile, the tribe continued attacking with stones.

Adam shielded Firehair with his body, providing her cover. He bore the brunt of the attacks, but all his attention remained on her wound. He could feel Firehair's vitals weakening and realized she would die from blood loss before the wound could be fully healed. Even if the wound was completely healed, she wouldn't survive.

Adam was desperate; he couldn't let a child die in front of him. So, he drew upon a power he had only used once before. He searched for the dormant power within Firehair's body and unleashed her full potential.

After channeling his Mummudrai powers, Adam kickstarted the latent energy within Firehair. Her lifeless eyes regained color, but the transformation didn't stop there. Psionic energy leaked from her body as she began floating in the air.

Brilliant blue light radiated from her. Firehair's eyelids fluttered, signaling her awakening. Before she opened her eyes, an otherworldly force, shaped like a bird, descended from the sky and merged with her body.

Soon after, earth-shattering changes occurred. Firehair's bright red hair darkened, and when she opened her eyes, they no longer looked like those of a child. Adam saw apathy in them, an indifference that regarded everything before her with cold detachment.

The awakening was interrupted by more projectiles. Rocks hurled towards Firehair stopped mid-air and floated around her before spontaneously combusting in the cosmic fire she released. The flames spread rapidly, engulfing the entire burnt landscape and vaporizing the furious Xeno tribes in an instant.

Adam would have shared their fate if not for his fire-controlling powers. He managed to stave off the cosmic flames briefly, but soon they overwhelmed him.

Adam used his Mummudrai abilities to regenerate his burning flesh, but it was futile. The cosmic fire consumed his body faster than he could regenerate.

Realizing he couldn't escape, Adam did the only thing he thought might work—he walked towards the floating Firehair. Walking away would spell certain death, as the flames encompassed the entire area.

Adam advanced through the purgatory of cosmic flames, his skin and flesh burning and regenerating in an endless, agonizing cycle. The fire intensified as he approached Firehair.

Enduring excruciating pain, Adam finally reached her and extended his hand, holding her in his embrace. The flames intensified, pushing his regeneration to its limits. In the end, even his abilities couldn't keep up.

Adam's body slowly evaporated, leaving only his astral form.

Before his astral self faded, Adam closed his phantom eyes, signaling his entry into the Chamber of Adams. In quick succession, he reopened his eyes, gaining newfound potency.

Using his enhanced mental capacity, Adam began reconstructing his physical body. Cells materialized rapidly, growing into organs, bones, and tissues. Within moments, a new body was formed.

But this body didn't resemble the Homo erectus form he previously had. Instead, it was human—bearing a striking resemblance to Firehair, with long, dark red hair.

Adam could have regenerated his original body, retaining his fire-controlling powers. However, he knew those abilities wouldn't save him in this situation. His astral body, now metaphysically connected to Firehair, replicated her DNA to create a new body with powers mirroring hers.

Adam activated the full potential of his new form, standing before Firehair in hopes of establishing a connection. Upon activating the powers that he newly gained he could sense the distressed mind of Firehair so he tried contacting her telepathically.

Adam established a mental link with Firehair's mind as he appeared in what happens to be the inner world of Firehair mindscape.

Chapter-7 Adam, The Phoenix Host
Firehair's mental world was engulfed with flames. Adam used his telepathy to search around. After looking around, he found Firehair's ego huddled up in one part of the mindscape.

Adam traversed the mindscape and reached where Firehair was and started communicating.

"Firehair, wake up. You haven't told me what happened to Highwalker," said Adam.

Firehair, who was curled up, lifted her head and looked at Adam. The moment their eyes met, Adam saw memories of what transpired while he was holding back the Xeno tribes.

While Adam went to hold back the attacking tribes after instructing Firehair to inform Highwalker and others of the attack, another group of the Xeno tribes attacked the cave where the Tribe of No Fear lived.

He saw in the memories both tribes standoff, Highwalker pacifying the attackers to no avail. He also saw the awakening of her budding powers as she could telepathically feel all the hate and anger the tribe of attackers held towards them.

All the hate overwhelmed Firehair's mind. Highwalker, who saw this, tried helping Firehair regain her control. That's when disaster struck. Highwalker, who was distracted, was impaled by a flying weapon.

Seeing their leader injured, the Tribe of No Fear went into a frenzy and started killing the attacking tribes. Firehair could feel the deaths of her comrades before long all the attackers and members of the Tribe of No Fear were lying dead in a pool of blood.

Memories flashed by as Adam realized what happened. Along with memories of what happened at the cave, he saw memories of Firehair in the mindscape trying to kill herself before she met Adam in the burnt place.

Adam realized how much Firehair suffered. He tried talking to her again, but her consciousness was in a suspended state, and any communication was futile.

He realized that with each passing moment, hate was drowning Firehair's mindscape, which turned into a wrathful rage that sought destruction. He knew if this continued, it would be hard to wake Firehair.

So Adam looked for a solution. He scoured Firehair's mental landscape with his near-omega-level telepathic abilities. In the end, he detected a primordial power deep in Firehair's psyche.

Adam had no other option but to confront whatever lay in the depths of Firehair's mind. Adam traveled to the shadows of her mind, where he caught glimpses of Firehair's memories growing up: her pack of wolves that rescued her when she was abandoned at birth, surviving in the forest with the pack, and all the memories up until Highwalker died.

After a lot of difficulty, Adam saw the power that was hidden in Firehair. In the depths of the subconscious dwelled a bird burning with the cosmic fires of rebirth.

"What are you? Why are you inside Firehair's mind? Stop the destruction you are causing," relayed Adam telepathically to the burning bird.

But there was no reply from the bird. Adam tried different ways to communicate with the creature, but the result was failure. Adam, in a futile attempt, tried to touch the bird with telepathic hands.

The moment Adam came in contact with the bird, everything broke. He was kicked out of Firehair's mindscape, but that was not all that happened. The bird that was in Firehair's mind was now in his too.

He looked at the bird that was floating in the void of his mind. The entrance of the bird resulted in changes out in the material world. Adam went through the same changes as Firehair as his body floated in the air with the same cosmic flames as Firehair burning around him.

He could feel the power he gained from the burning bird. He could feel the Phoenix, and he promptly controlled the flames that were coming from Firehair, putting out the flames that engulfed the whole burnt place.

Adam, with his newly enhanced telepathy of omega level, re-established his communication with Firehair and successfully woke her up from unconsciousness. Firehair saw Adam's new body the moment she opened her eyes, which she didn't recognize.

"Firehair, it's me, Adam," said Adam with fire around his body, covering his naked body.

Even though Firehair didn't recognize his face, she still remembered his voice and jumped into his embrace as she cried.

"Dead, everyone's dead. Highwalker died because of me. If I could control my powers, he would not have died," said Firehair, bawling.

"It's okay. Everything will be fine. I'm there for you," said Adam, comforting Firehair.

Adam lifted himself and Firehair into the air with his newly gained telekinetic power and flew towards the cave of the Tribe of No Fear. Both of them floated down to where the bodies of Highwalker, other members of the tribe, and the attackers were present.

"Let's send them away, hoping that they will be reborn again," said Adam to Firehair while summoning his cosmic fire. Before he set the corpses in a funeral pyre, he detected a tiny life force from one of the bodies.

After searching for the source of the tiny life force, he identified it as belonging to Highwalker. The flames in Adam's hands went out as he placed his hand on Highwalker's body in a hurry.

After contact, he felt his pulse, which was still beating. Not only that, Adam could also see his genetic makeup. He used his Mummudrai powers to stitch back the wound after taking out the weapon that punctured him. The wound healed back, but Highwalker was still unconscious with weak breath.

He could feel that Highwalker's pulse was unstable. It was a miracle that he had survived until now. That's when his Phoenix powers came to the rescue. He recognized the control he held over life force while healing Highwalker.

So Adam drained the life force of the nearby plant life and injected it into Highwalker's body. After this procedure, Highwalker's vitals stabilized. Firehair, who was seeing all of this happen in front of her eyes in a couple of minutes, was surprised that Highwalker was alive. She cried in joy as she hugged Highwalker, who was akin to a father figure for her.

Meanwhile, Adam was distracted by the information that was in his mind. Every time he came in contact with someone's physical body, Adam could read and replicate their DNA, but the moment he lost contact, he would forget the genetic makeup, losing his ability to replicate a body.

But now, due to his omega-level psionic abilities, he still remembered the whole genetic makeup of Highwalker even though he was not in contact with his physical body.

Chapter-8 Resurrection
After manipulating the life force surrounding him, the phoenix within him awakened, summoning his consciousness to his mental realm. He floated in the void of his mindscape with the phoenix in front of him.

The phoenix before him was quite different from when he had seen it in Firehair's mindscape. While in Firehair's mindscape, it had burned with scarlet flames, seeming to be an incarnation of Doom that sought only destruction. But the one in front of him radiated an aura of both destruction and life-giving force.

The burning figure of the phoenix looked at him with eyes that held intelligence far surpassing that of a normal animal, a look of scrutiny in her gaze.

"You are an interesting mortal. In eons of existence, the number of times I couldn't read a creature's mind has been handful. But in the end, most of them were defeated, leaving only a few exceptions—those who were the mightiest beings in the multiverse.

"But you, who are nothing but a mortal, could stave off my intrusion into your mind. I have to say, I'm intrigued," said the phoenix, the cosmic force of rebirth, in an indistinguishable voice.

"Mortal, tell me, how is it that you could protect your mind against me?" asked Phoenix.

"It's Adam. My name is Adam. Stop calling me mortal; I have a name. Also, I should be the one asking: why are you in Firehair's body? Why did you enter mine?" he questioned in return.

"I sense defiance in your words, mortal. Well, Adam, I will still answer your questions.

"I represent the force of life and death across all of reality. I am the nexus of all psionic energy present in existence. To manifest my powers in the material world, I need an anchor powerful enough to withstand my vast psionic reserves.

"I need a host to channel my powers. The little girl who awakened her abilities was the most suitable host on this planet, so I granted her my powers.

"But she let her mind be clouded by hate, turning me into a force that sought only destruction—until you came, with the same potential as her. So I divided part of my power and bestowed it upon you. At present, parts of me dwell within both of you," said Phoenix.

"So you're the reason I could save Highwalker. But why didn't you stop Firehair from destroying everything?" asked Adam.

"Adam, you must understand—I'm a force of life and death. The responsibility for how my powers are utilized depends upon the host. If you seek destruction, destruction is what I am. If you seek life, then I will be life," replied Phoenix.

"So you're saying your powers don't distinguish between creation and destruction?" said Adam.

"It is as you say. But Adam, you still haven't told me how you can keep me from reading your memories," asked Phoenix.

"It's a mystery to both you and me. I'm just as ignorant as you regarding my mind's defenses," said Adam.

"If that's the case, then I hope to find the cause before your short life ends," replied Phoenix.

"Me too, Phoenix. But don't worry—I'm confident I'm not dying anytime soon," said Adam, boastful of his powers.

"If you weren't inherently strong, you wouldn't have survived the process of becoming my host. Now, go outside and use my powers as you see fit. Don't disturb me unless you solve the puzzle of your mental defenses," said Phoenix.

Driving him out before he could ask more questions, Adam felt a newfound awareness of Phoenix's powers as he stood before the corpses of human and mutant tribes.

He channeled the phoenix's power, igniting in cosmic flames that covered the area where the corpses lay. The flames, which should have scorched the remains, didn't burn them. Instead, the corpses pulsed with life force. Hearts awakened, pumping blood—these fires resurrected the dead members of both tribes.

Firehair stared at the resurrected members in disbelief, while those brought back to life appeared dazed, still fresh with memories of their deaths.

But the confusion didn't last long. The humans who had been revived began attacking Adam's companions, picking up primitive weapons to resume the killing. Before more lives could be lost, Adam intervened.

"Stop your attacks," Adam telepathically commanded, arresting their movements. Once everyone was immobile, Adam entered the minds of the hundred or so human tribe members. With surgical precision, he erased all memories associated with their hatred for mutants and implanted a strong command in their subconscious to view him as their leader.

"From now on, you listen to me. I make the rules now," said Adam, commanding the humans, who obeyed without disagreement.

"Wake up, Highwalker. We have a tribe to lead," Adam said, nudging Highwalker telepathically awake.

Highwalker woke up in confusion, unsure how he was still alive after being so close to death.

"You are...?" asked Highwalker, looking at Adam in confusion.

"This should clear your doubts," Adam said, sharing his memories of the events.

It didn't take Highwalker long to understand what had transpired. His newly heightened psionic powers were far stronger now, thanks to Adam helping him realize his potential.

"Adam, let's leave and find a new place. It's not safe here anymore," said Highwalker.

"There's no place where we'll be welcomed, Highwalker. Don't worry—there's no one left from the surrounding tribes who opposes us. If there are, they're now on our side," said Adam.

"Adam, I saw you tamper with their minds in your memories. I don't agree with defiling another's mind for our acceptance," said Highwalker.

"I understand, my friend. I agree tampering with minds is wrong, but my only other solution would've been to kill them. I know their fear and hatred are misguided. Don't worry, Highwalker—I promise I won't use my powers in a way that harms them," replied Adam.

"I will believe your words, Adam. For now, I have no reason to doubt you. What will you do next?" asked Highwalker, gazing at the members of both tribes.

"Before, I just wanted to find a place to stay for a while. But now, realizing what this world offers, I know it takes more than one individual to survive it all," said Adam, looking at the stars before turning his gaze back to the resurrected tribes.

Chapter-9 The Serpent-Men
The Tribe of No Fear underwent astonishing changes in a couple of weeks; it didn't look anything like before. It had transformed into a stone fortress with fortifications.

Adam was outside the castle, telekinetically floating rocks weighing tons to arrange them into the shape of a wall around the perimeter of the primitive castle.

After reviving the humans and mutants, he tasked some of them to hunt and collect food, while others were instructed to build the stone castle. With ample use of his powers, he was able to complete the construction.

The area around the Tribe of No Fear had turned into a small town with adequate defenses. Adam finished laying the last stone, completing the construction of the perimeter wall, which stood at a height of three meters.

Adam returned to the castle and witnessed humans and mutants living together in the stronghold. He had somewhat become the de facto leader of the whole tribe during these couple of weeks.

He entered a stone structure that extended from the castle. Upon entering, he saw one of the mutants—covered in sacks of red fluid pustules—manipulating flames and directing them into a channel that led to a mud furnace, melting down some ore.

Adam assisted with his cosmic flames, turning the ore into liquid metal. He then used his telekinetic powers to separate impurities from the liquid metal. Afterward, he shaped the metal into a giant metallic furnace capable of melting much more metal than the mud furnace.

The new furnace took shape as it stood cooling. Adam instructed the members to melt more metal to forge weapons, transferring the instructions directly into their minds.

Adam departed the forge and entered a small study he had built in the castle. He picked up some rawhide lying in the corner and drew plans for the settlement.

While lost in his thoughts, he heard commotion outside. Adam looked out from the opening in his study and traced the source of the disturbance.

He saw one of the humans attacking others in the crowd. Adam promptly floated toward the location of the conflict and noticed that the attacker behaved more like a beast than a man.

Puzzled, Adam entered the attacker's mind. After a quick look into his memories, Adam discovered the source. He held the attacker in a telekinetic stranglehold and brought him closer.

Holding the attacker by the throat, Adam telepathically commanded him to reveal his disguise. The man transformed into a green serpent humanoid. The attacker was a Serpent-Man, a being spawned by the Elder God Set.

A group of these Serpent-Men was lurking around the settlement. This was one of the first to infiltrate the stronghold as a scout. Serpent-Men were troublesome because they could shapeshift into human forms, hiding in plain sight. For anyone else, identifying them would be difficult, but Adam had no trouble. All he needed was to touch them or read their surface thoughts.

Realizing the problem, he summoned Highwalker. Highwalker's task in the tribe was to facilitate communication between humans and mutants while also teaching Firehair to control her powers.

"What is this creature?" asked Highwalker, staring at the Serpent-Man.

"These Serpent-Men are quite troublesome. Look for yourself at what they can do," said Adam, commanding the Serpent-Man to transform back into his human form. Highwalker witnessed the transformation.

"They are indistinguishable from us in human form. They are hostile. There is a horde of them outside the stronghold. We might face an attack when night falls. Prepare the members for night watch and inspect everyone entering the settlement. They might be Serpent-Men in disguise," ordered Adam.

"How is Firehair's training going?" asked Adam.

"She is adept at communing her thoughts with others' minds, keeping distractions at bay, and progressing well with her telekinetic abilities. But when it comes to the entity's powers, she struggles to rein them in. Only you can help her," replied Highwalker.

"I have much to handle in the present. Even I am not proficient in using Phoenix powers. Let her first master her inherent abilities. When she is proficient enough, I will teach her what I can about wielding Phoenix powers," replied Adam.

At sunset, darkness covered the stronghold. A group of humans in animal hides stood on the stone perimeter, holding torches as they maintained the night watch.

The night progressed uneventfully, with no attack from the Serpent-Men as Adam had anticipated. However, another unexpected enemy visited the stronghold.

A green beast appeared on the horizon, dashing toward the stronghold. Before the night watch could warn the others, more beasts of varied sizes, shapes, and colors followed, charging the settlement's walls.

The night watch alerted the others to the attack with loud noise.

Adam, who was asleep, was woken by Firehair and Highwalker.

"There is an attack—a horde of beasts is attacking the perimeter," said Highwalker. Adam, still half-awake, immediately flew straight to the stone wall.

He saw a horde of beasts resembling those that attacked him at his birth. Distinct from one another, they tried their best to breach the stone wall and enter the settlement. Some were successful.

Before they could wreak havoc, Adam telekinetically hurled them outside the stronghold. The horde of beasts, Deviants, wasn't difficult for him to kill using his Omega-level mutant or Phoenix powers. But Adam wanted to fight with finesse. He took out half a dozen metal throwing needles and controlled them with his telekinetic powers.

The needles flew at astonishing speed, piercing through the bodies of the Deviants, ending several lives each passing second. The horde of Deviants, once full of momentum, was eliminated in minutes.

Adam gazed upon the carnage he had wrought, but the killing wasn't over for the night. He detected the presence of minds in the darkness of the forest.

He promptly flew over to where he detected the presence of the enemies, at his destination was group of Serpent-men being led by one who looked different from the other of his kind.

Chapter-10 Tensura, Asura's Blessing
Tensura, Jura Forest

East of the Great Ameld River flowing through Jura Forest, Asura's consciousness emerged from the Chamber of Adams after meeting Adam from the Marvel Universe.

Great changes began to take place after Asura's reawakening following his short visit to the Chamber of Adams, where he came into contact with the Hybrid Mummudrai soul and received its memories. These memories were the cause of the changes he was experiencing.

Asura, or the soul shard of Adam Sinclair reincarnated in an alternate world, found that his memories of his past life were now indistinct, mere flashes of images. He lived diligently in his new life, but everything changed when he was summoned to the Cardinal World and came into contact with the Chamber of Adams, where he subsequently met the first member, Apex.

It had been a couple of months since he met Apex, and the changes he was feeling now were similar to the ones he had experienced when he was first transported to the Cardinal World through a spatial fissure, and again after he came into contact with Apex. Now, he was feeling it again.

"I'm looking forward to what I gain this time," Asura said to himself.

Asura had acquired his third unique skill: BioPhantom. The subskills of BioPhantom were:

  • Spirit Body Transformation: The user can switch between their material body and spiritual body.
  • Possession: The user can attach their spiritual body to other living beings or objects and hijack control of the host.
  • Replication: After enough time, the user can replicate the racial characteristics and skills of the host.
  • Potential Unlock: The user can activate the full potential of the host, increasing their abilities and allowing them to obtain new skills.
"This is the third unique skill I've gained since arriving here," Asura muttered to himself.

He had gained his first unique skill after being baptized by the mana of the Cardinal World: Blade Dominion. It wasn't all that impressive at first, but it helped him survive his first month in the cruel Jura Forest, which was teeming with all kinds of monsters. Blade Dominion helped him gain proficiency with bladed weapons and allowed him to conjure blade constructs.

Although powerful, Blade Dominion could only do so much without a strong weapon. Before long, he encountered monsters that couldn't be defeated with just Blade Dominion. That was when he gained another unique skill: PsychoMorph, after meeting Apex in the Chamber of Adams.

PsychoMorph's subskills were:

  • Mind Interference: Control the minds of others; implant, erase, or modify thoughts and memories.
  • Mind Force: Lift and manipulate objects with the power of your mind.
  • Shapeshift: Mimic the form of the target at a molecular level, controlling the size and aspects of your body.
  • Mind Vision: Gain various types of vision, such as Infrared Vision, X-Ray Vision, Electromagnetic Spectrum Vision, Telescopic Vision, and Microscopic Vision.
The unique skill PsychoMorph resembled the abilities Apex had. Now, after coming into contact with Adam from a new universe, Asura had gained another unique skill, BioPhantom, which proved his assumption that the world seemed to take into account the memories and powers of other versions of him and award him skills.

"If this pattern continues, I might be able to gain a new unique skill every time a new Adam arrives in the Chamber," Asura thought to himself.

"Let's stop daydreaming before some giant spider eats me," he warned himself.

He called upon his newly acquired unique skill, and his material human body transformed into a spiritual one.

Asura's spiritual body floated near the banks of the Great Ameld River. He tested the other abilities of BioPhantom on the nearest creature: a slime.

He possessed the body of the slime, which was minding its own business, and took control of its body. It didn't take long for him to get used to moving in a slime body. He used the other unique skill, PsychoMorph, while possessing the slime with ease, shapeshifting its jelly-like body and morphing it into his human form.

The human body he originally had and the slime's transformed body were indistinguishable from one another except for their hardness. He observed that while in his slime form, he seemed to have lost his Mind Vision. However, after shapeshifting back into his human form, he was able to use it again.

He reverted back to his slime form and transformed into a slime blade floating in the air. The synergy of his three unique skills culminated into something wonderful. The blade form he was in now afforded him unimaginable control due to his Blade Dominion. He flew through the air with finesse, making a whistling sound as he cut through the wind. He then experimented with shapeshifting the slime body into different forms. Although he could do this in his human body, it wasn't as effective due to its fixed nature. The malleable nature of the slime body allowed him to morph into any shape with ease. If he had a skill that could harden his body, the synergy of his three skills would allow him to cut down enemies in the form of a flying blade.

Asura's experimentation with his new unique skill was disrupted by another notification.

[Intrinsic skill: Absorb has been gained]

[Intrinsic skill: Dissolve has been gained]

[Intrinsic skill: Self-Regeneration has been gained]

The time Asura spent possessing the slime was only a couple of hours, but that was all it took for his unique skill, BioPhantom, to replicate the slime's abilities.

Now, he wanted to try another subskill of BioPhantom: Potential Unlock. As he used it, the slime's body began to glow as its size and mana doubled, and he heard the notification intended for the slime through Mind Interference.

[Extra Skill: Slime Mastery has been gained]

The slime gained a new extra skill because of him using Potential Unlock on it. Asura knew that before long, he would replicate the skill with his unique skill.

Asura realized that there was now another way for him to gain new skills. All he had to do was stop killing the enemies he encountered and simply possess them.
