Magus Ascendant (Warlock of the Magus World/The Gamer inspired quest)

As for elements, I think I'll stick to the basic 4 (fire, water, earth and wind) plus light and darkness. The more obscure ones can fall as sub-elements of one or more of the main 6. Like poison can be part of water or part of earth.
The way I understand it, elemental particles are produced by maguses. Who emit them into the environment all the time as a leaking nuclear reactor.

So, some meditation techniques can end up having you practice a rare "element" that is not widely available in the environment. Such as "Illusion particles" or even "fate". higher environmental concentration makes you cultivate faster and cast better, but you can make your own particles too if you have an exotic particle that doesn't exist in nature. Drawback is slower cultivation, advantage is more exotic ability

So, I think theoretically anything can be a magical elementary particle, anything.

Oh yea, I remembered another power, prophecy. Leylin on occasion made a clean break only for his enemies to hire a prophet at a great cost to find him. like the azure mountain king hiring a rank 4 prophet to find out about leylin.

[X][origin] OC: an inhabitant of this world, it is all you have ever known. You are taking your first steps out of the mundanity of life and into the world of Magi. Everything from this point on will be new and amazing. You will have to work hard and remain diligent in order to gain a grasp of this new world and ascend to the ranks of the Magi.
[X][name] Cat
[X][backstory] The Talented Orphan: a street urchin with nothing to your name, it has been revealed that you hold a great potential for the arcane arts. Likely inherited from an ancient ancestor. Train hard and cultivate your power. Greatness is within your grasp.
[X][power] The Gamer: you are the personification of bullshit. The rules and laws all other Magi must obey are but mere guidelines and suggestions to you. You cheating cheater. (Ability mechanics altered slightly to fit the setting).

Really glad I read this and remembered you're right lol. Now rather than keeping things tight and coming up with good explanations for the six elements I was going to use, I can just have it as a write in vote and you guys can choose what element you want from the list of 'everything and anything' :p That sounds more fun actually.

And yeah, Divination is one of the big ones I remember. Right there with Illusions.

I am interested in life. There are a lot of life mages out there, they seem to create plants, healing, entangling, etc... and have an easier time of doing rebirth and clones than others.

Then again... gamer probably can do better. doesn't need it.

And sharingan gives bonus fire affinity.

BTW, I actually really like the idea of the saiyajin... i just like the other two a little more

[X][origin] SI: a reincarnated soul dropped into a world you previously thought of as fiction, you have subsumed the soul of your host and taken their place in this strange world. You have some degree of Meta knowledge, nothing that can be exploited to give you a massive advantage but enough that you can avoid some of the pitfalls and dangers of this world.
[x][backstory] The Lowborn Scholar: you are but the child of a lowly merchant family, yet your appetite for knowledge is voracious. Your talent for magic is adequate but combined with your thirst for knowledge, you have the potential to become something truly... terrifying.
[X][power] The Gamer: you are the personification of bullshit. The rules and laws all other Magi must obey are but mere guidelines and suggestions to you. You cheating cheater. (Ability mechanics altered slightly to fit the setting).

Not only that, If you're talking about elements natural to the plane/world, The magus world has tons of them, because the natural laws in each world are different (hell, even spiritual force is different in different worlds) and the Magus world had everyone raiding those foreign worlds for new resources, techniques and knowledge, some of this has to have brushed off on the Magus world.
But wow, I never thought that anyone would ever do a WMW quest, this is going to be epic,:lol:D:p:D:lol the start is going to be so dangerous, we're going to need to hide our power as much as possible, this is no typical wuxia. I'd actually be way more worried about our social skills, poker-face and lieing skills than anything else. We need to keep a low profile, I wonder if Leylin's around.

Life as an element could be fun. Lots you can do with that and since many of these are conceptual, you can also go for the more negative effects such as decay and death. They are different yes but they can still count as part of life.

Yeah, the Magus world is kind of a smorgasbord of magical abilities. Anything is possible. I wasn't expecting there to be so many WMW fans on here, kind of a surprise. Would have thought someone would do a fic or quest sooner.

Since I don't think I can capture all the events that happen in the main fic properly, this is going to be an AU of WMW. Some rules and events might be different and I won't be using any of the Canon academies unless SI wins the vote. Leylin might or might not be running around but none of his actions should really affect the MC unless you go out of your way to tail him.

By line. It's all the same either way.

Now I'm going to bed, I'll type up the next chapter while at work and post it for you all when I get home.

i just remembered. don't the white mages not recruit commoners? only nobles.

dark mages have high enough attrition that they need to recruit commoners to keep up their numbers

on the other hand, the winning vote looks to be t5 talent and gamer. even the white mages will get excited by a t5.

gamer would benefit from the XP from killing foes in dark mages, but will also benefit from the safety of white mages since he just needs to grind

I'd much prefer to grind skills rather than stats because it's a lot easier to hide skills than it is to hide stats. So white mage is preferable.

Edit-well at least the gamer won.
We are gonna need to grind acting and conceal skills at the start to hide our potential then,I think we can do better than average power wise without focusing specifically on it.
I haven't read Warlock of the magus world but it seems dangerous.

Just found this and im already looking forward to it more than most of the other stories im watching. It has the potential to be a great quest if it doesn't die early and im glad to see an author making use of one of the many good Xian Xia-ish worlds out there.

Since i missed the time for the first vote i am instead going to outline what i think our main plan should be for survival for this T5 talent Gamer that's been voted for. While gamer fics in the early stages are usually a sort of samey quick growth endless power leveling that get boring after a dozen fics doing the same thing, the fact that we will be trying to gather as much power as possible while under intense scrutiny where we need to be a genius, but not too genius should make this far more interesting than most gamer fics starting points. I tried to keep it general and not based on a particular element or stat balance. It's spoiler-ed because it turned out to be rather long.

In choosing an academy i think we would be much safer to choose a white academy, while the black magi may allow us to advance much faster they will also put us in many more situations where we are likely to reveal ourselves early on. In addition to this any academy which uses illusions or mental abilities commonly should be avoided like the plague. Our ability to completely negate any mental magics is great but also far to likely to get us noticed early on if we are near magi with these abilities.

Once we choose an academy, do not spend much time on advancing our cultivation level early on. While it is important, it is also not something we can hide and will get us caught way too fast if we advance at gamer speeds. Instead we only spend a little bit of time on cultivation and still advance at mad genius T5 speeds, but much less suspicious ones. This gives us plenty of time to grind stats and skills.

Depending on how the gamer works we may get free stats on level up, if possible i don't think we should spend many of these. While grinding stats can be explained by magic and effort sudden boosts are more suspicious. Instead i feel that we should save them for when we need to unlock something NOW or we need to catch everyone around us off guard with a boost of something (in life or death situations). Ideally we would only ever use them while we are away from the academy with only other acolytes to allay suspicious overnight changes from being noticed by the magi.

Skill books will be a major bonus to us, but again can get us caught and dissected really fast. So don't make use of their skill books,Magi will notice them going missing, instead if necessary and allowed copy the entire book by hand and use your copy. Even then don't turn it into glowing motes unless we are certain we are unobserved. This is one of the aspects of the gamer that should not be abused early in the game because it will get us killed way to easily.

Now, talking about skills i figured i would make a list of the skills i think are most important for us grind up early on:

Acting/Lying skill: We are going to come across situations where we need to out poker face powerful magi so we better have this trained up to ridiculous levels on our fellow acolytes before then.

A Healing/Recovery skill: great for survival and will help us hide our gamerness. If everyone knows that we have a fast healing spell gamer's body will be explained away much more easily.

A space/Storage Spell: While this is useless for us, If we are using the inventory at all it will eventually be noticed and we need some excuse.

Barrier magic/Formations/Runes: Some skill to allow us to set up areas that are relatively safe from spying. While we shouldn't let down our guard even inside our secret training circle it will be useful for keeping our skill in other things hidden from magi that are casually passing by.

An escape spell: Necessary for if something goes wrong and the fewer people know about it the better so train this in secret if at all possible.

Bookworm skill: If we are reading and not eating skill books any skill to help us read faster or gin more understanding in a short period of time will be incredibly valuable

Observe: IF we have it (And if it is not detectable) Than we need to abuse this as much as possible

Poison resistance/Side effect negation: There are many things in this world that can give major boost to our strength without causing suspicion of our gamer abilities. All of these also have some form of side effect or backlash, the ability to ignore these so we can eat power boosters like candy whenever we find them would be incredibly valuable. Again we need to take care not to get caught doing this.

So that's it for my ideas on what do do from here. I don't have too much free time so i might not be able to be online to take part in all of the votes, but i will try to take part in the discussions so i can influence the direction of the story if i'm not here during the voting period.

You clearly have knowledge of the setting so a few questions- What are the white and black academy's? While I get that they are places to learn magic and White academy would focus more on heling spells and the like while Black would focus on curses and death spells could you elaborate? Or better yet lead to a location where this knowledge is present. Does this have a wiki?

Edit-Also ya my basic plan was also the same but I also want to associate with the other useful charecters too,if the charecters which we didn't pick appear then I will vote to make the scholar our minion befriend the scholar.

All of the below is what i remember from a while ago so i may have forgotten a few things.

Black and white magi loosely map to the elements and skills that people tend to learn, but there is a more clear difference in their general philosophy. It is, in part, an Oder/Chaos divide White mages have many rules, black have almost none. White magi sometimes still learn curses and black magi sometimes still learn healing, its more rare, but its there.

Black magi are very much believers in the strong eat the weak and survival of the fittest. While all of the magi have this in the WMW universe the Black magi will do nothing to hide it. They are much more likely to freely kill anyone who get in their way. Their organizations and ruling body embody this fairly closely as well. If we join them we are far more likely to see combat as openly killing someone weaker who has no backing is relatively acceptable.

The white Magi have far more rules and restrictions. They have a reputation for being more fair and kind to those weaker than them, but make no mistake the strong are still dominant. It is closer to a society where the strong rule the weak (command them, collect "taxes" etc.) rather than just taking what you want from them immediately.

White magi have a good reputation among mortals compared to black magi because they care about their reputations, they continually perpetuate the idea that they are the good guys and the black are the bad, so even when they rule over those below them like feudal lords, they still show general kindness and hide their cruelties because they are the "good" faction. They make use of this reputation to draw more followers to them and tend to make use of group strength and social manipulation. The black magi already have a bad reputation among the general populace and most of them don't care to try to improve it. While a white mage may do just as many bad things as a black, he will do them where no one else can see and will do his best to maintain his more benevolent reputation. The black mage will happily do these act in public as long as they do not believe they will face immediate retribution.

While we we still face danger in either group, as they can be just as brutal behind closed doors, In the white group we will receive some protection from being blatantly robbed or experimented on as long as we remain in the public eye. Whereas in the black academy our mentor could experiment on us and dissect us openly and the only complaint he would face is that he wasted a t5 talent acolyte who could have been useful for the academy later on.

Additionally the black vs white magi have their academies located in different areas. A black academy is generally located in the middle of no where, in cannon in the middle of an incredibly lethal (for mortals and early acolytes) forested swamp. Whereas the few white sect/academies we hear of in cannon are built in the middle of city or in farmland or in a (Much nicer) forest with a mortal settlement nearby.

This gives us a difference in the opportunities we will have as well at a black academy there will be more opportunities for fighting (Both people and monsters) and leveraging our strength to gather treasures, where as in a white academy we will have much more social interaction and opportunities for trade and gathering treasure through other people in exchange for favors or payment.

Black academies will necessitate publicly building up our combat strength and letting others see that strength in order to survive. In a white academy we could gain power through revealing a specialist noncombat skill (Healing, crafting, potion making) and leveraging it into favors, wealth, and getting people to work for us while keeping most (Not all, everyone needs to be able to protect themselves) of our combat capabilities a secret until we need them.

TLDR: It is not good vs evil. White care about their reputation and have many rules to keep people from ruining that. Black doesn't care and has very few rules other that might makes right. Both will do near anything for power if they can keep it a secret. In white academies we have more chances for interaction and general skills, Black will have a much stronger focus on combat and will that will more likely reveal us. Black is also much more solo focused while white will necessitate social interaction (Either building our own power-base or joining someone else's).

And i do not know of a wiki for this or anything else like that.
