Honestly an apprenticeship under a god is the best path we could take, and we can figure out how to do combat and diplomacy on our own but magic not so much.

Apprentice of Loki
[X] Loki returns to take 'Torhild' under his wing as an apprentice in the art of Seidr and trickery. Magic Route.

You wake to an unfamiliar room and while it takes a moment for you to process that in your sleepy state, when you do, the spike of adrenaline drives out any weariness from waking up. Sitting up, it quickly becomes apparent that your location isn't the only unfamiliar thing as your body is wrong.

Bushing the long red locks of hair out of your face, you carefully take in your surroundings. You are in a hut of sorts, a bare one that seems to have your bed, a door and little else. As for you, your body appears to be that of a girl judging by your shapely hips, your flowing long hair, the sizable bust on your chest and what lies between your legs.

It isn't the worst fate. Your mind seems to be unaffected, you have all of your limbs and your body doesn't feel weaker, just…wrong. Being a girl isn't the worst as you know plenty of them who haven't let their gender get in the way of being impressive people, like Astrid or Brunhildr. So long as you find a way to get back home and back to normal before anybody sees you like this, you should be fine.

"So where am I?" you ask, voicing your thoughts out loud.

"In the countryside of Vestfold," says a voice that you have only heard once before, but will never forget.

You have only met this deity once before and briefly so, but that is a meeting you will never forget. After all, how could one forget an encounter with the divine? It was also the first and last time you found yourself as a girl.

"Lady Loki," you say respectfully as you start to get an idea of what is going on as the Jotunn walks into the hut in the body of a woman.

"Torhild, my apprentice," says Lady Loki with a mischievous grin that you have seen on Sigrid's face too many times, "I expect you would like to know what is going on."

"I would," you answer even though Lady Loki's question wasn't really one.

"It is quite simple, Torhild," says the deity, "Your education in terms of seidr was lacking so I decided to take pity on you by claiming you as my apprentice."

"Thank you, Lady Loki," you tell her because what else can you say to such a generous opportunity and you wonder whether or not to voice the other question on your mind.

"The reason you are Torhild is more than just one," says Lady Loki, answering your question as if you had spoken it out loud even though you hadn't, "First and foremost, it amuses me. Secondly, it lets me train you without having to deal with you being recognised as your father's child. Thirdly, seidr is more potent for women than men and I shall not let any apprentice of mine get hindered by being a man."

"I see," you say as you realise that might be more to the old claims of seidr being for women than you previously believed, "What about Father, Lady Loki?"

"Oh, I just come back from letting him know that I've taken you and setting your friend Astrid on a quest to find you," says Lady Loki with a wink at you, "Don't worry, nobody knows about you being Torhild instead of Torvald right now so don't fret about your pride being hurt."

"Thank you, Lady Loki," you say as you aren't sure what to make of all that, "I think."

"Excellent, excellent," says Lady Loki, "Now, your seidr skills are lacking in diversity. You have access to multiple kinds of seidr and yet you only specialise in Lightning. A waste of potential to be perfectly honest, especially when you have a Lynx as your Fylgia."

"I have limited ability to cast many spells in a day," you answer cautiously, "It seemed sensible to specialise in one type of seidr instead of learning several spells I wouldn't be able to make use of."

"Not entirely wrong, but we'll just have to work on expanding your daily spells," muses Lady Loki.

"Will I be able to match Astrid?" you ask, wondering if this will be your chance to finally catch up with her.

"Only if she slacks off," says Lady Loki as she shoots you a knowing look, "I'm afraid it isn't just her Fylgia which grants her the advantage there. Her Bloodline is very potent when it comes to seidr. But enough about Astrid, no matter how promising she is. I'll be teaching you the basics of being a seeress and then we shall room the lands as a wandering seeress and her apprentice. That'll give you plenty of experience with seidr and Piety to empower your Hugr."

"That makes sense," you say, barely refraining from wincing as you shift your body and receive a reminder that it isn't yours.

The next couple of months see you fall into a routine. You still don't feel comfortable being 'Torhild', but you adjust to it as you are no longer shocked to wake up in the body of a girl. The early mornings and late evenings see you receiving lessons from Lady Loki while the daytime is spent assisting whatever village that the deity has whisked you off to for the day.

Over the weeks, you begin to get the hang of things you never thought you would learn as you steadily learn the art of being a seeress. As promised, you receive a steady flow of Prestige and Piety from your deeds, enough that you are able to bring both your Hamr and your Hugr to the next breakpoint in their development.

Sorry about how long this update took to get done as I had trouble doing the intro. I kept having Loki show up to the court in Torstensby, but I could never get right so I ended up scrapping that scene. Anyway, start of the final childhood arc before Torvald goes and conquers a kingdom for himself as an adult.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to.

I'm strongly inclined to get Loki's Favor, but there are some combos worth looking at.

Tireless Stamina/Traveller would go well with Exploration.
Seer Body, Loki's Favor and Insight are good in general.

For Torvald's Petty Kingdom quest in particular, Seer Body/Tireless Stamina is probably the better Hamr trait while Loki's Favor/Insight are probably the better Hugr trait. I personally favor Loki's Favor due to long run benefits (and narrative... effects), but Insight is fairly beneficial as well in general.

Overall...

Learning Seidr

[X] Loki's Favour. You have earnt the positive favour of Loki. Minor Hamingja Gain per year.

As promised, Lady Loki does begin to teach you the art of seidr. Whatever spells slots aren't expended during the day are exhausted by the time you go to sleep thanks to your evening training. You aren't surprised when your teacher declines to help you expand your repertoire of Lightning-bases spells as your lessons instead focus on Thunder Seidr, Storm Seidr and, what is actually to your surprise, Deception Seidr.

You understand Thunder Seidr and Storm Seidr for they are the other two types of Seidr granted by your bloodline, but Deception Seidr? According to Lady Loki, you have access to that thanks to her boon and the Trickster isn't about to let an apprentice go without learning Deception Seidr.

Thunder Seidr is surprisingly similar to Lightning Seidr except its spells are based around thunder rather than lightning. In terms of ability, it doesn't really offer anything new, not at the level you are using it at, but it does give you variety. Against a foe might be resistant to lightning-based attacks, you now have your Thunder Seidr to unleash upon them.

Storm Seidr is a different beast however. Instead of being based mostly around personal effects, it is more tactical in nature. Beyond a spell or two about going unaffected by a storm, Storm Seidr is primarily about commanding storms or aspects of them in addition to calling them into existence. You can certainly see why Father favours Storm Seidr on his raids. High level spells of it can easily cover the arrival or retreat of a raid by calling in a fearsome storm whilst also protecting the raiders themselves from it.

Deception Seidr is completely new to you. Storm Seidr and Thunder Seidr share an elemental similarity with Lightning Seidr, but Deception Seidr has nothing in common. But with the greatest master of it teaching you, you swiftly get the hang of it. Deception covers such a wide range of things you are only scratching the surface of it. Some it seems obvious to you like making yourself look like someone else, but other usages only make sense to you in hindsight. Things like pretending to have a role to trick others or ensuring using a feint will make an attack miss you.

And it does come more easily to you as a girl as Lady Loki told you. When you cast spells as 'Torhild', your power flows more easily with less resistance in its path. It is like a river running for the first time without rocks and branches getting in the way. While the body of a girl is just too uncomfortable for you to live as 'Torhild', you cannot deny that women have it easier with seidr.

That or it might be your newest Hamr Trait making your spellcasting easier. You have almost almost doubled your spell slots and perhaps there are other, less obvious, benefits to your latest trait. You want to say that Lady Loki wouldn't lie to you, but she is the Goddess of Trickster and is infamous for her pranks.

However, it is not all smooth sailing for you as Loki's apprentice. The deity doesn't actively endanger you, but the world you live in is far from safe. And one of these days, you find yourself in a spot of trouble.

What trouble does 'Torhild' have?
[ ] The son and heir of a local thane has taken a liking to 'Torhild' and won't take a no from her for an answer.
[ ] Whilst purchasing supplies at a village, 'Torhild' is accused of poisoning one of the villagers that she and her teacher helped.
[ ] Being recognised for her skill with both her seidr and her sword, 'Torhild' finds herself being brought along on a raid.
[ ] Something is turning the women of a village into statues and 'Torhild' might be the next victim of whatever is responsible.

I had hoped to get a longer update, but my muse wasn't cooperating so an unfortunately short update along with a vote for a challenge for Torvald to overcome as 'Torhild' the apprentice seeress.

Please point out any spelling or grammar mistakes that you spot. Please quote them in the thread and explain what you think is wrong so I know what you are referring to.

[X] The son and heir of a local thane has taken a liking to 'Torhild' and won't take a no from her for an answer.

Just for the lols.

[X] Something is turning the women of a village into statues and 'Torhild' might be the next victim of whatever is responsible.

More danger more rewards has less social interactions.

Something the protagonist may appreciate.

[X] Being recognised for her skill with both her seidr and her sword, 'Torhild' finds herself being brought along on a raid.
[X] Something is turning the women of a village into statues and 'Torhild' might be the next victim of whatever is responsible.

I prefer something action-y.

[X] Being recognised for her skill with both her seidr and her sword, 'Torhild' finds herself being brought along on a raid.
Fight! Fight! Fight!

Remember for all we know someone may come to know about MC being transformed into girl something better kept in the wraps.

Also going to a raid without making name isn't satisfactory considering we manage to lose the raiders and it doesn't evolve into plot point of others thirsting after the Gender swapped MC. So do reconsider your choices.

Getting good at the other things granted by the bloodline is a good thing and provides more options.

Yeah that's how the magic system here works.

Sounds like an interesting thing to get involved in.
