Lords of War

So then, question topics, thought up on the discord now being posted here in case anyone here can think of more.
Mentioned this on SB. But any chance the link can be posted, for players here who weren't part of the first quest?
1) Paragon Rituals
2) When does the Great War start
3) Salem
4) Titans/Mad Gods
5) Blood of X(Ruin for Cinder, Death for Ruby, War for Jaune)
Hmm...would a question about if Grim Tech and War Beasts or such still exists work?
Should we raise the whole 'Is virtually Penny flesh and blood or machine?' question? Or has that been answered on this discord.
Probably not worth it, since we'll ask the questions after the first part of the vote wins.

In other words, we will probably be told the answer to that in the update right after.

An army for a warrior. Seems like a great fit, and she can be the protector of the innocent she always should be.

For questions something along the lines of

1) What traits can Penny gain over the course of the quest?
2) What are the routes for acquiring aforementioned traits?

A fishing village is a simple assignment, but seafaring capabilities shouldn't be underestimated, especially since Mantle is isolated up North. The village is close to conflict and has two fronts, but Penny is combat ready! (And nothing else) I'm sure she can make use of good defenses.

I was tempted by the Military outpost, but I would really rather not be directly against SB, that way leads to nothing but salt and a bad time. Therefore i say we take over the oceans, become the queen of all that sails the high seas.

I would vote for this plan, but...don't really want a conflict between the two sides.

So let the Android Queen of the Sea rise! Aka not quite Silversun, but the closest we're getting.

I mean, going for 'last quest this is what Ruby did' but then put Penny in instead aint a great way to prevent salt loads :V 🧂

Blinks. I somehow missed that we could join Mistral as well.
Around eighty years before the beginning of the series, a massive ten-year conflict, simply known as the Great War, came to an end. In this conflict, Vale and Vacuo fought Mantle and Mistral. Throughout the century leading up to the Great War, Vale disliked the behavior of Mistral and Mantle. This behavior included the treatment of their citizens, their use of slavery, their abolishment of the arts and self-expression and their insistence that their way of life was best for everyone.

Eventually, Vale and Mistral both set their sights on settling the small islands and peninsulas on the east coast of Sanus. The King of Vale, in an effort to avoid conflict, decided to share the land with Mistral's settlers, but his citizens disagreed with this choice. A riot broke out between two bands of settlers and devolved into the first battle of the Great War. Due to a prior alliance, Mantle quickly came to Mistral's aid, and for a while, Vale fought them alone, on both Sanus and Anima soil. Vale's enemies pushed for Vacuo to join the war on their side. However, fearing they would be conquered if Vale fell, Vacuo pushed all Mantle and Mistral presence out of their territory and allied themselves with Vale.
After an incident with the Grimm, Mantle came to believe that, if it controlled its citizens' emotions through the abolishment of the arts and self-expression, it would be safer from Grimm. Despite its strong artistic culture, Mistral followed suit so as not to lose the alliance. However, Mistral only placed the ban in the outer territories, allowing the central powers to continue living as they pleased.
...let's see. Do I really want to see two PCs join the offending side of the war. Potentially being either Neutral, or causing a revolution themselves. Since I don't see either SB or SV supporting Mistral's Regime.

Hmm...yes. Yes, I do. Changing vote.

We can launch a revolution even if we aren't on the same side. In fact we could join with others and form a new kingdom instead of staying with either Vale or Mistral.

The only reason I didn't go for the trading outpost is that I felt that being away from the fight would not allow Penny to gain the reputation needed to truly become a powerful leader by fighting and saving people.

Because among the 8 stats this start seems like the one that plays to what I believe are her solid stats. That is to say personal combat, tactics, and either military leadership, or logistics. Furthermore it puts her in a good spot to pick up the third one she does not start with, at least a soldiers charisma, and needing to grind espionage from catching bandits.

More importantly the inevitable conflict with SB due to them being at best mercenaries for the other side insures the quest will be entertaining, and notion of the protagonists being frenemies seems a rather interesting concept given juxtaposition between their respective proficiency.

Also the world is a powder keg waiting to blow, and thus all trying to break away will do is light the fuse, which makes me think a bunch* of leaders are going to do so kicks off a war. Oh, and we've already done the sea queen thing, and thus I'm inclined to try something new.

*Look The Mistrali Empire legit practices slavery iirc.

Well...does she really need one? A reputation as a combat monster, I mean. The simulation in my view at least, is meant to train the students, and let them experience things they wouldn't be able to replicate outside.

Penny is already terrifying as a fighter, more than Jaune, and arguably better than either Sun or Ruby. But in terms of social? Intrigue? She...is not skilled at those at all. Developing to become a good leader, that roots out corruption, may not be as flashy as being a very visible one man army.

But its no less, great.

From the official statements at least. It seems to be the citizens who started a riot. Don't doubt the leaders were itching for it regardless, though.

Last time around this board went full on merchant marines but got bored with the lack of conflict, so let's charge headlong into a fight from the start.

Please keep in mind that if you're planning to uh revolt against the benefactor someplace close to the conflict is probably a good idea as support from Vale isn't impossible. Although we picked the wrong character for such a route imo.
[X] Plan Sea Queen Penny is a go.

All it does is bring us directly into conflict when plausible reason for Mistral tolerating a clan of bandits is them being a deniable asset against Vale, and thus unless we pick Mistral the mercenaries contract involves harming the interests for those aligned with Vale. This will start as indirect ripples, but as the war escalates direct conflict is a very real possibility given the detriment of the fishing village.

Fundamentally a clan of mercenaries are paid by the job, and the ones that pay the best will harm the interest of Vale in the area at the cost of bringing heat down on them, which makes it against their own self interest not to harm a Penny working for Vale at some level. So I think we should pick choices that give Penny the most resources, and have her use them to make the best of a bunch of bad options while believing in the choices she makes.

My point was that Faunus slavery + Faunus in leadership + Vale citizens taking issue with slavery = early Great War when distant overlords move in to suppress any revolts leading to war if say the local military assets take issue. Alternatively run away slaves being given shelter might cause things to boil over, or a number of other reasons.

...Okay? Not really something that needs to brought up.
"The colonial board is worried war's on the horizon, and they want people in charge of the settlements in contested areas." He sighed. "Even if they're wrong, tensions are attracting the Grimm. The last few attacks left quite a few spots open for rising stars to take the reins and guide things back to normal. Mistral and Vale have been pretty keen on poaching talent for these ventures, and they're contracting me to find them. You just might have the skills required to keep one of these places afloat."
They literally state that the war is probably going to start soon.

Slavery is just one of the many reasons the Great War started. Though are you confusing it with the Faunus Right Revolution?

Since the second one happens after the great war.
It is not to be confused with the Great War, an earlier and far larger conflict based around social and cultural ideology, rather than racial politics.
On that note.

Fair. But, I was thinking we could enact change in the inner area, instead of the outer area though.

One thing to note, is the wording.
- Hunted by man and beast
- Tolerated at best
It doesn't say that everybody tolerates the SB side. It says they do that at best. Even counteracted by the point that their are clearly individuals and factions who do in fact want them gone.
Fundamentally a clan of mercenaries are paid by the job, and the ones that pay the best will harm the interest of Vale in the area at the cost of bringing heat down on them, which makes it against their own self interest not to harm a Penny working for Vale at some level. Also, while I can get the idea...

When did Bandits become mercenaries? They raid, and destroy settlements. But paying them implies, that their are groups out there that are fine with paying a group which causes major negativity by their very presence, to do stuff.

And said group actually listens to them, despite going against all social norms.

SB has to change such a group to a better one. But its implied they kind of start out as a universal negative to everyone on Remnant.
