Lady Zhu might care more about becoming the first aspirant to become a full disciple and get personal instruction from the Sect Head. Compared to the reward the side effects of pills and potions may not be too bad for Lady Zhu. That is not the same for peasants like Zhi Gao.

Still haven't answered why the sect would give poisonous pills without warning to people in it.

Is there any mechanical significance to the elements that techniques can have? Can we do stuff like using a water technique to weaken a fire one or using a metal technique to strengthen a water one?

Yes. The element cycle follows the wuxing properties for overcoming/strengthening etc. So metal is strengthened by earth, overcomes wood and is overcome by fire and so on.

Elements that overcome the other are treated as 2 Steps higher (+20%).

Elements that strengthen work the same way, so using a wood technique into an ongoing water technique will enhance the wood technique to +20%.

Most cultivators use 3 elements. Their primary, support arts that feed their primary, and a couple of techniques that overcome the element that overcomes their primary.

I like these two. They aren't slackers. Also I only want to interact with the Lady Zu and Ma Gang after we personally break through in Mental as well. It would give us more to talk about and in a much closer to even standing (fellow non-failed sect members) compared to if we talked to them before that.

I changed my choice of plan vote because I just remembered an elder threatened everyone with being turned into cultivation resources if they broke the law, and that makes more more suspicious of pills/elixirs. I also did not want to go with a plan that did not include bureaucracy training, since I think it is best to make the most of our chance to train within the special formation that makes learning bureaucracy stuff easier that they use for the lessons.
 
It's probably too late to start a new plan, but the existing ones are either incomplete (lacking in contingencies in case of success/max reached or worded ambiguously), misguided, or not to my liking.

As far as I can see, this:
- Still Mind Pill. Forces the opponent in mental breakthrough rolls to use their worst roll, instead of their best. Effective until Inner Human First Step.
does nothing for us right now, because we/our opponent only rolls 1 die, thanks to our low mental talent. Isn't that right, @Kadmus ?
The one pill that would be useful is
- Elixir of Enlightenment. Allows a breakthrough into the First Step Outer Human Realm of mental cultivation without a roll.
which costs 100 points. Given that we make a minimum of 10 points per time block spent on our Garden Job, the price is not too steep, but it's probably not worth it compared to time blocks spent on grinding mental cultivation with the hope of not failing the breakthrough roll, at least this coming week. If we end up having trouble, we can purchase it during the next vote.

@Tharuk @Epic Bygones The Still Mind Pill will not be useful right now, you're correct. The Abyssal Deep Pill will put your mental cultivation skill on par with the roll you're opposing.

You get 11 sect points on a minimum-success roll for the garden job, and 5 sect points on a failure. This is better than the 4 sect points plus Degrees of Success you would get for other Outer Human Realm jobs available at your level.

EDIT: Oh, and once you're fully in Outer Human you can start looking at getting bound spirits. They don't take up technique slots or anything.

Before talking to Lady Zhu, it would be a good idea to speak to Ma Gang at least once or twice, despite him being rather prickly and stuckup. Even if Lady Zhu personally is magnanimous, and sect-siblings are theoretically on equal footing, Zhi Gao is a peasant living in a feudal society and there are certain expectations regarding station. Speaking to her without a specific reason would make Zhi Gao seem to be a social climber trying to take advantage of her attitude.

The 'Max' plan is better, but also annoying to read and parse. Defeat conditional plans and get them out of quest culture.

Without that, what ends up happening is the QM has to ask for an additional clarifying vote they hadn't really planned on, which delays the actual update. Just like it happened last time, when we reached 10 physical DoS and the winning plan didn't have that contingency.

I don't see how it will reach 25% Bureaucracy this week. We are at 10% and each block is maximum 2% progress.

After successful breakthrough in Mental Cultivation, Physical Cultivation will be at 16 DoS so it's better to continue Mental Cultivation until both are equal.

Yeah, if nothing weird happens, it's impossible to get to 25%. I mostly put that condition in because it's good habit. It doesn't hurt, at least.

After successful breakthrough in Mental Cultivation, Physical Cultivation will be at 16 DoS so it's better to continue Mental Cultivation until both are equal.
The need for balance only matters for Steps, not DoS (Edit - or so I assume, voting would be a nightmare otherwise or the Qm would have to radically change the format).

Is it possible to do more than 1 block a day of Garden Job?
 
You can do the garden job for more than 1 block a day, if you want.

You definitely don't need to keep Steps or DoS equal - you only have to break through simultaneously for Realms in both paths to avoid mishaps.
