Greetings, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, posters of all ages 13 and up! Welcome to my let's play. I finally decided that I should contribute something to our fine forum besides cute, funny, and cool pictures. So here it is.

So, fellow forumite, you might be wondering to yourself, "What is this 'Empire at War' nonsense? I say! Waffles." Never fear! I'm hear to answer that question. Star Wars: Empire at Wars is a real-time strategy game developed by Petroglyph in 2006. In it, players can take command of armies on the land and fleets in space as both the Empire and the Rebellion. In between battles, players manage their faction on a galactic map. Players can construct buildings and spacestations on specific planets in order to create new units and to defend their territory. There are two campaigns, Empire and Rebel. I'll be covering the Empire campaign first, and if things go well the Rebel one second.

In addition, there is an expansion known as Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. Players are Tyber Zann, criminal master, as he attempts to rebuild his underworld empire in the wake of the Death Star's destruction. This too lies on the horizon, gleaming hopefully, waiting to be played and commented upon...

But that's for later.

Before we begin, I'd like to lay down some guidelines.
  • Follow the forum rules. This should be obvious.
  • Please don't post if I'm in the middle of an update. You will be able to tell when I'm in the middle of an update by the line "Please wait warmly." appearing at the bottom of a post.
  • Spoilers are fine. I've played this before.
Now that that's over with, let's begin.
Please wait warmly.

Empire Start - Taking Thyferra Pt. 1
We begin with the company logos.

Next, we arrive at the title screen.

As you can see, it's the inside of a ship, TIE-fighter I believe. In the background there's a nifty space battle. Now, let's examine the save games I already have...

It doesn't seem like many, but that's because I have a tendency to erase save games from previous play throughs whenever I start a new one. So, those are all gone now. Now for the actual campaign. As I mentioned earlier, I'll be starting as the Empire. What I didn't say was that I'll be playing on hard mode.

No way this could go horribly wrong, am I right?

This is where the game really begins. Standard Star Wars Title Crawl™ is up next.

You can read it yourself, you lazy bum.

Purdy.

I wonder who's on board...

So basically, the empire intercepted a transmission from this planet and it might be related to that traitor, so we're gonna find out what's going on. We start off with 8 AT-STs, 4 Stormtrooper squads, and Darth Vader (he was on that shuttle earlier, FYI).

This game's mission objectives are the best.

Our main goals are to destroy the rebel base and the communications station to the north. However, there's a small problem: the base has a shield.

There's a shield generator here, but the game doesn't know that I know that.

Please wait warmly.

Taking Thyferra Pt. 2
We begin moving north, taking out the rebel scum along the way...

...when we come across something new.

I may not look like much, but there's a reason they call me "Anti-Infantry".

It's an anti-infantry turret. What this does is that it shoots out a stream of laser (blaster, maybe?) bolts that pretty much insta-kill any infantry in range, such as Stormtroopers. But really, there's no reason to panic. We have both 8 chicken walkers and Darth Vader. The ability to gib some mooks is insignificant next to the power of the Force, after all.

Apparently you can Force Choke a building. Who knew?

Burn baby burn, disco inferno~

Now that that's done with, you might notice that where there once was a turret, there is now a square on the ground. This is a build pad. After capturing it by standing some infantry next to it for a couple of seconds, you can build something on it. Currently, I can build a bacta healing station, an anti-infantry turret, and a repair station. Bacta stations heal infantry, turrets shoot, and repair stations repair. I take the chance to build a bacta station and heal Vader and the troopers.

Now begins our advance upon the comm station. There's some light resistance, including a T2-B tank, but it's nothing we can't handle. Though, I do take the chance to show off some ability. All units have at least one ability, which they can activate for a special effect. Some have cooldowns, some sort of change modes. The one I'm using the the AT-ST's barrage ability, which lays down heavy fire in an area, doing lots of damage to most anything inside. Vader has two abilities, Force Push and Force Crush. Push kills all enemy infantry near him and Crush destroys a vehicle.

Circle of death.

Now, for the actual communications array. With nothing left to protect it, it falls in a manner of seconds.

Oh no, some rebel troopers survived by hiding in the grass. Whatever will I do?

With the array down, we heal up, and then march East, past the rebel base. Unfortunately, there are some turrets hiding in the force field, so everybody has to go single file in order to stay out of their range.

Selling this for a repair station.

I know you're there...

Please wait warmly.

Taking Thyferra Pt. 3

Look at it. It's practically shaking in fear.

Single file now, children...

Some light resistance once again, and then healing. Also, I exchange the previous stations for turrets for future use. Be prepared, as they say.

Before destroying the power generator, I arrange some troops in preparation for the inevitable attack.

Here they come.

Up there, you'll see a Plex Missile Soldier. These guys are the bane of your vehicles, and will bring them down very quickly if you don't pay attention. Therefore, Stormtroopers are an effective counter to them. In addition, some reinforcements are brought in for me. Two more Stormtrooper squads and 5 TIE Maulers. TIE Maulers are great against infantry, cause they're fast enough to chase them down and literally run them over.

Managed to get an action shot of Force Crush.

Anyways, now we can finally advance on the rebel base. There are two anti-infantry turrets, so Vader and the AT-STs take care of those, while the Maulers run people over and the Stormtroopers lag behind. Next, everybody attacks all at once, and the base is destroyed.

You can run but you can't hide.

Turns out that some of the rebel weapons had pirate markings on them, so the pirates might be trading weapons for information. Vader kills the officer for some reason (being incompetent, I guess) and we're done.

What do you mean, the enemy lost nothing? :(

We close with a brief shot on the galactic map, which you'll see more of later.

Anyways, whew, this took a lot more work that I thought. At some point, I'll probably reduce the amount of pictures per update to a more manageable amount. The next update won't be up until tomorrow at least.

Also I've decided to take a page out of De3ta's book and put most of the posts in spoiler tags since that is so many pictures.

I have to say you are 1000% Times my Better with the intro alone. Also Inb4 Spoiler tags!

Well this brings back memories...Nothing beats showing those pesky rebels the true power of the empire.

Yeah, that's fine. I'll probably do mods at some point, since the modding community is pretty big and the mods are great, but if I did I would probably start with the z3r0x one for FoC.

Edit: You can post here, I suppose.

Ah, Empire at War.
I got stuck on Botha.

The cutscene for some reason was being an asshole, and everyone was just standing around.

EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention: It was after I had murdered everyone everyone stood around.

I got destroyed on that Planet where the building keep making Rebels. So I gave up. ^_^ I'm soo good.

the z3r0x one for FoC.
I remember when somebody did a LP of that over on SDN, and yeah that mod is freaking epic. Unfortunately I hate, hate, hate Galactic Conquest campaign mode because of the short travel times and incessant attacks (even on Easy it was like one every couple minutes) so I could never fully appreciate it. :(

Ye gods, I'd forgotten the hammy mission objectives. Those were always the best part of the campaigns.

So does anyone else have a unique 'Imperial radio operator' voice for reading those objectives? They're so wonderfully over the top I can't help but wonder if the operator should be fanatic or deadpan or somehow both.

Ah, empire at war... I had quite abit of fun with this one, mostly the star destroyer spam.

I wonder, is this let's play going to include forces of corruption? Sure, the Consortium is stupidly OP but I had quite abit of fun playing through the campaigns... of course, I also remember finding the space combat much more fun than the ground combat overall.

As soon as I got the Death Star I kept on blowing up all the rebel held planets... Unfortunately the game kept crashing when I destroyed more than 4. Fun times those were.

This game. Just this game.

At some point the micro management on a galactic scale is annoying but the space-battles are worth it. Especially a lvl 5 space station against the entirety of the AI's fleet, that never ceases to amuse me.

De3ta Plays Republic at War Pt. 1
Well lets see how Bad I fuck this up.
Episode One: Buildin Buildins Here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome Lady's Gentlemen and Others to De3a(D-E-Three-T-A)'s Mod Corner! Where I Fail At games so you don't have to, But Probability Will anyway because my "Talent" Has rubbed Off On Thee.

This WAS My first EAW mod and my first real experiance with Non-Steam workshop modding......It took me five months to figure out how to install this, Yes I was that Bad.

The Point of this mod is to Totally convert EAW with its OT RTS-Ness and allow you to play Durring the Clone wars! And it is well known for being really really Really Hard.....*Gulp*

This is the "easy" Map as far as I know,Smallest, and with "Easy" Difficulty. Really That Easy is A total lie as of when I last played it. It might have gotten better with 1.5.5 but I highly doubt that.

We will play this as the Confederacy of Independent Systems. We Have One thing were good at, And that is Numbers.
For every Unit of Clones(4 Squads with the Stimpack and Hunker down skills) To Every unit of Battle droids(Six Squads, No special Ability) As well as The Lukerhulk, That space station for Phantom menace, We have that, Turns out it's just a Big ass Star ship. and it spawns A Metric Fucter Cluck Of fighters for us. Consisting of the Droid star fighter And Droid Bomber(I Will Leave the explanations for all of the Vanilla Mechanics to Apotheosis.)

One thing about these mods and GC in General that kinda disappoints me is the lack of Objectives that randomly Spawn. Things like Capture Pirae base X, Or get Extra units for Assaulting Enemy Planet Y. But the is besides the point.

We Have one Objective,(This is whee i make Shit Up For your Pleasure.)

It is the Early Days of the Confederacy, Shortly after the Battle of Genosis All Planets Scrambled what ever force they could before the Republic could Attack. Even Scattered The Confederacy Has the Upper hand. They Hold Most major Production Worlds as Well as Several Tibanna Gas Deposits, Another advantage is the Unique Building thy Hold, The Gladiatorial Arena which allows more credit Generation on Certain Planets.

You(Me) Were Chosen By Count Douku Himself To Command The Defense Of the Confederacy Homeworlds, And To Push the Repubic Out of the outer Rim, To Prepare for an Assault on the Core Worlds.

At Geonosis We Have Several of those and things on Anti Fighter Duty, With Our Main Ships Being the Munificent, As A rival to the Aclamator. We also Have the Lukerhulk and Our Main Capital Ship, The Provenance.

We also have two hero units in Count Douku And Nute Gunray.

When Nute Is in a system all Droid Unit are More effective in battle.

Douku However, Is a Land Unit.(Also I Think Space at higher tech levels.) And with that he has Special Ability's. He Can Use Force Push and Force Lightning.

Force Push:pushes Away All Infantry around him, Killing them.

Force Lightning: Kills Any Infantry Caught in front of him.

This is a Unique Unit to the mod. The Healing Droid(Repair here, Medical,Gar) It Is three individual Units per Unit. And Heal's In a Small Area.

We Build A Factory on Geonosis and Sullest, Building A Mine Of Geonosis and Some More Droids to Defend Sullest.

We Rally all forces at Sulus Van, Because there is No way to Hold the Other Two Planets with our Limited Forces. Building a Large Levy of Droids to sow them down.

With the Factory we can build our First Vehicle. The Crab Droid, Good Against Infantry and not Much else.

Unfortunately, it seems likely that there won't be an update tonight. I need to sit down and make myself do some homework, or else it won't get done.
