Reading SAO-Koma takes me weird places.....

Power he knows not.

Day 3, floor one.

Klein wandered through the marketplace lost in thought, his feet meandering through the crowds as he recalled the day he had tried to help a kid, a kid who now he thought about it, might already be dead even now. Disappeared into pixels with no-one any the wiser. He shivered at the idea, watching as a group of children ran about laughing and playing. "Their parents must be missing them." He muttered to himself.
Compassion.
"You know…I'm only twenty two." You stammer "I'm not really that much of an adult but…What I'm trying to say is.." You really should have thought this over. "I mean, if it's you that has any problems just message me, alright. It doesn't matter if it's fighting, or social problems or whatever. Hell, if you just want to hang out, go fishing and talk about girls I'll be there and I'm sure the rest of my friends will help out too."

He had tried to help Kirito, he told himself it was repaying a favour, but really, sending a kid out alone into a wilderness where all manner of roaming monsters could kill him? It was wrong. The fact that Kirito knew more about this world than he had was of scant comfort, Argo already suspected that much had changed, knowledge was out of date and things had shifted, if Kirito made faulty assumptions they could well prove the death of him.

That was why he and Furinkazan, as adults had stepped up. This wasn't a game, except perhaps to a deluded madman. People had real lives and responsibilities, jobs, and his friends had families, children even. They not only had to keep people alive, but also get them back home. Kirito had said the only way to survive was to get strong... But where did that leave the weak?
Responsibility.
The town of new beginnings was still pretty crowded, most people not willing to venture too far, but it being the middle of the day most people were 'busy' either at the training fields or in other cases exploring. So the silence wasn't that unusual as he made his way from the crowds exploring a district of the city in search of quests or vendors with rare items before he met up with the rest of the guild who were busy training.

What was unusual was the almost naked guy sitting staring at the ground, his only apparel a pair of standard undergarments.... Well they were male boxers, but for the fact they were bright pink. There was no one else around and the guy didn't even look up as Klein approached.

"Hey' uh are you okay? Did you get robbed or something?" Klein asked, more than a little worried. The guy barely responded, lifelessly dragging his head up to meet Kleins eyes. There and then the first thing that hit Klein was how.... lost the guy looked. For a moment they simply met each others gaze, each taking a measure of the other.

Then, so quietly that Klein would have missed it if not for the games 'Listening' skill. "I'm a nekama.... I only have female equipment."
Klein was dumbfounded for a moment, sure he had misheard, then realisation hit hard as he remembered Kayabas 'little trick' with the mirror.
There had been more than a few girls who had turned out to be G.I.R.Ls and guys who were apparently girls trying to avoid the unwanted attention that female gamers often garnered, willingly or not.

Klein momentarily considered pointing him in the direction of an apparel shop, armour and clothing stores run by NPC's could be found all over the city and perhaps for just this reason players could have their starting equipment swapped to either gender free of charge. But that being the case.... surely this guy already knew that, there might be some momentary embarassment as he swapped his attire but far too many had already been caught out for most to make a big thing of it. The whole point of the game was to be something you weren't in real life.

The guy sighed, then even quieter if that were possible. "Being a Nekama was the only thing I lived for." The expression on his, her? face, or lack thereof combined with the tone of voice sent a chill down Kleins spine. He had to do something before the person did something drastic.

"How about you try and take being a Nekama a step further?" Klein suggested.

.....Dear god that is possibly the worst idea to ever come out my mouth. He thought, mentally kicking himself.

There was a moments silence as the other player considered his words then a slender hand opened their inventory and a moment later he was clad in an outrageously frilly dress. "You're right!" He exclaimed. "I'll give it a shot!" He vowed looking Klein in the eye.
Understanding.
With that the figure raced off, hopefully, Klein mused, to find something not quite so ill-fitting.
So much pain but still, glimmers of happiness amidst, the rising darkness.
Every action creates ripples, and to change the world all that is required is a single act of random kindness. But today? Here and now Klein could not begin to fathom the effects even the most innocuous of decisions would have upon the world around him.
I have no clue what to rate this so I just went with funny.

The First Step part 02
Finally got around to finishing this today. Feels a bit wonky so if you think something needs to be improved don't be afraid to ask.

I'll be keeping the voting open for a few days for everyone to work out their ideas. Again next update will most likely be next weekend.

Until then, enjoy.

"What do ya say?"

What do you say?

You ponder. You examine. You prod. You imagine. In the few seconds of your personal eternity you think of all the lives that could be saved by this. But how much will you be able to do? You want to stay on the front lines, help Kirito, but could you really afford to drag your team through it all?

"I want you guy's honest opinions." You direct to the rest of Fuurinkazan. "What do you want to do?"

"Us?" Issin speaks up first. "But you're the leader."

"Yeah," You reply, "but what's the point of leading if no one wants to follow?"

"Heh. That's just like you Klein." Dale chuckles. "I think we should focus on the monsters. If their attack patterns have changed then the whole game is different."

"But what about the loot?" Dynamn quips. "We could start trying to get the best weapons and gear and sell what we don't want for more Col."

"Or," Issin points out, "we could give our extra gear to starting players. Try helping them get out in the field."

"That won't be enough." Kunimittz berates. "We'd have to train most of them or find some way of giving them battle experience. That is, if the rat keeps its promises." Refusing to even make eye contact with her.

"Of course she will." You state. "She's a friend of Kirito and he didn't lie to me." Looking back at Argo her checks seem to be redder behind the hand covering her mouth. Or is that just the whisker paint?

"I want to find out more about these 'Goddesses'." Harry One proclaims as if he hadn't been listening to the others. "They seem to be the center of this new Aincrad and knowledge on them could open up more important quests."

So many things to do with many more ways to do them. Everyone with a different outlook and set of experience. How to craft a balanced sharp blade from it.

Wind, Wood, Fire, Mountain.

"Why not all of it?" You think out loud. You should try to fix that.

"All of it?" This time it's Argo that speaks in shock.

"Well…not every little thing." You reprimand. "If we start leveling up for the floor boss we're going to be running into plenty of monsters to study. Quests can get us all the gear and items we could need and if the subject of who or what these 'Goddesses' are comes up we can try to press it. I'm not sure how we'd get more players battle ready but we can start something up along the way." Actually, this sound halfway decent. "We'd be spread short for a while but if it helps save lives I say we should shoot for it." You can't help but smile.

Argo looks at you gaspingly, hand still over her mouth. Can you catch colds in this game?

"I take it back Klein." Issin speaks up again. "'That', is the lamest thing you've ever said."

"Oi!"

"Plus two points." Argo bring you back to reality…kind of.

"Uh…On...o-on what scale?" You ask. A coy smirk now rests on her face rather than her hand.

She never answers, instead she opens and rummages through her inventory. After a few moments a trade window appears before you.

Argo wishes to trade:
Sword Arts: Beginner's Guide 'Don't worry, its Argo's guide'
Sword Arts: Advanced Guide 'Don't worry. Its Argo's guide'
Skill Arts: Beginner's Guide 'Don't worry. Its Argo's guide'
Floor one notes: Mobs
Floor one notes: Items
Floor one notes: Locations
Floor one notes: Quests
: For 000 Col.
Yes ( ) No ( )

"A-all this…for free?" You ask dumbfounded.

"No, not free." Argo explains. "I'm expectin' twice tha amount of info from you guys than if ya were only goin' to get one of them." Her eyes looking like those of a hungry predator. Definitely a floor boss.

"Uh..sure. We'll try to do as much as we can." You answer as you press accept. The first step has been made, but where will you be when you reach your thousandth? No, you'll think about that when the time comes.

"An' agreed. All done." Argo voices her end before getting up and heading to the door. "I'll be wantin' a message everyday even if it's just 'bout nothin'. We'll need ta know what doesn't change just as much as what does." She says as she messes with her menu screen again.

'Argo wants to be friends'
Yes ( ) No ( )

You might as well accept. Argo is now the eighth person in your friend's list.

"Ah, one last thing." She calls half way through the door. "It's guys like you tat I find tha most interestin', Clean-bou." For the moment she looks at you before the door closes that predatory gaze of hers sends a shiver down your spine.

What? What was that about?

"Lolicon."

"Alright. Who said that?"

************

The night had been long, to the point you almost forgot what the sun was like, digital signals or not. After Argo left your team had spent the rest of the night reading up on the various skills you could in the game and testing them in field. You even discovered the 'Dueling' option that helped hugely in getting everyone used to fighting before even going into combat. You have some ideas on how this could be used later.

But right now it was a bit past seven in the morning after your team had only gotten three hours of sleep. You were waiting on everyone in one of the large but empty main stone courtyards for them to find the items and gather quests you should need before you leave. In the mean time you were review game mechanics for battle strategies and possible routes to take before the floor boss.

"So," You say only to yourself, "Sword arts cost sword points (SP) so people don't spam them seen as a purple bar under your health. SP can be regained by hitting an enemy with either sword arts or common strikes or regaining health. Another but invisible gauge is the tension meter that is built up with each strike improving your hit rate and damage seen as a blue aura over a player's body. When tension is high enough for the whole party the party leader can call for a 'unison attack' that refills the SP gauge and allows everyone to attack in a row building up damage the longer it goes. Unison Attacks can be extended by how much affinity party members have with each other which can be raised byARUG!" You moan realizing how much Kirito didn't tell you.

Of course there is the fact that Kirito is a solo player and would know anything about unison attacks but that just makes you wish you had of brought him back with you. Are you sure he's even still alive and if he is how is he mentally or emotionally? You want to message him but might be in the middle of a quest or fight a mob that's too strong and get him ki-

"!YOU GOT MAIL!"

AND GOD DAMN, you've really got to change that message tone. Who'd send you a message now of all time—Kirito. Kirirto sent you a message.

TO: Klein
FROM: Kirito
SUBJECT: You still alive?
"Just found a chance to contact you. How is everything?'

'You still alive?' You want to laugh. All that worrying and he's worried about you instead. Or was that a joke?

TO: Kirito
From: Klein
SUBJECT: Staying Alive
'Pretty good. Got in contact with Argo last night and have been practicing with my team ever since. We're about to leave to hunt and do some quests. How are things on your end?'

And while you wait time to change that alert tone.

Or maybe not. At least the alert tone isn't so annoying anymore.

'Didn't think you'd reply so fast and got caught up in something else. Just wanted to say that it should take about nine days to get to the boss room and a raid meeting should be held about that time. I'll try to message you about it but listen up for it encase I can't. Try to be around level ten.
I also noticed something strange about an old quest. I think Kayaba might have changed some things since the Beta.'

That confirms it. Two Beta Testers have noticed a change in the main game. What are these Goddesses and how do they work into Aincrad? If Kayaba was just going to stick all of you into a death cage why would he want to add something like this? Was it all just some sick game to him or was he expecting something more from the players?

And that water fountain was starting to get very distracting.

A water fountain that wasn't there before. This was just an empty, stone courtyard not two minutes ago so where did this come from?

Looking it over it's one of those sculpture fountains where water pores out from a vase of some kind. On this one the water came out of cracks in a head sized egg that's beginning to puddle in its outstretched hands holding the egg before overflowing and flowing to the pool below like a waterfall. Although it's wearing a large cloak it shows off enough feminine curves but also seems to keep a motherly charm to it with its head turned down and eyes closed. On top of its equally waterfall like hair lies a ring almost like a halo with stylized bird wings protruding from it just above its ears. As odd as the ring is it's the cloak it wears that catches your attention the most as you feel like you've seen it once before, and recently too. It a full form cloak that covers its feet and arms with a hood that lays off its head and under its hair upon its back.

What were you doing again? You were looking at something but there's only an empty courtyard here. Guess it was a daydream then.

"Oi." You call back as you come up to meet them. "You guys get everything?"

"Yeah. The lines were surprisingly short." Harry One starts off.

"It looks like we're the first ones to leave the city today." Dale filled in.

"We've got as much as we could buy. I even got some crafter players to agree to give us some upgrades if we bring them some materials." Issin, ever the business man, remarks.

"Alright." You speak up. "Just got a message from Kirito not too long ago that said it be around nine days before the boss room is found so we need to be around level ten and at the tower base by then. So, here's the plan."

Okay, on to an actual plan, we have Argo's guides, they're out of date but that's what we're supposed to be checking.

[X]Day one
-[X]Read sword arts: beginners guide.
-[X]Read the monster manual.
-[X]Check the notes in locations on the town of beginnings and the starting fields.
-[X]Also check the quest notes for any quests we can do for easy xp and see if there are any notable items that can be earned either through monster grinding, quests or that should be in the are.
-[X]Start any quests that involve slaying boars.
-[X]Practice combat on the starting fields, this way we can earn xp, check the boars, farm items and complete any associated quests all at once.
[X]Day two
-[X]Continue operations in the starting fields/ town of beginnings until we have completed all the easy quests.

There's the beginning of a plan, checks a lot of stuff in the immediate starting area which is probably our chief concern, obviously if we complete all the stuff in the starting area on the first day we would do other things on day 2. But I seriously doubt we would be able to check everything in just one day.

I assume if we don't have enough time it would carry over to the next day instead but things could quickly snowball and have us fall behind schedule there. On the other hand I don't want us doing too little, we really have got a lot we need to do....

Thoughts so far? Am I overthinking things way too much?

-[X] Day one: Go through all of Argo's guides and notes. Explore the area between the Town of Beginnings and Horunka Village
-[X] Day two: Check out the quests at Horunka Village
-[X] Day three: Investigate Horunka Forest
-[X] Day four: Explore the way to Origin Lake
-[X] Day five: Explore the way to Icunia Hills
-[X] Day six: Investigate the Icunia Ruins
-[X] Day seven: Explore the way to Tolbana Town
-[X] Day eight: Check out the quests at Tolbana Town
-[X] Day nine: Explore the way to the Floor Tower

-[X] Spend extra time grinding

[x] wingstrike

Looks fine, if we're updating info the town of beginnings and nearby zones are going to be full of dudes already.

I could call the vote now since everyone seems done but unfortunately I'm about to leave for work.

So unless something changes by the time I get back in ten hours or when when I wake up tomorrow the poles will be closing then.

Feel free to continue to voice plans or change votes.

Let this be a note, never become a janitor. Especially if where you work is always dirty.

But enough of my belly aching. With a staggering ( :V ) three votes the winner is:

I've been working on some ideas for unique swords skills. Had you guys chosen to be Kirito's rival these would have been one of the main focuses of the story and depending on what choices are made down the line they may have a chance of showing up again.

Out of the ten only six are named and only two are shown. Even though I have ideas for all ten I'd like to hear everyone's opinions and ideas on what the unknown eight could be and who they may belong to. Fresh ideas and healthy discussions help drive me to write so have fun and try to think outside and inside the box.

Unique skills?

Actual Archery. Rather than throwing.
Something stealth based? (Offscreen teleportation would be so Argo.)

Hmm, starting from their base skills, there should be something for dagger users, throwing users, martial arts users and hammer/mace users, as well as axes and two handed weapons.

Dual swords - one handed sword x2
Holy sword - one handed sword with shield

My guess:
Battoujutsu - iaijutsu for katana, which comes from one handed curved swords
Darkness Blade - sneak attack for daggers to deliver status effects
Shurikenjutsu - rapid fire throwing weapons
Infinite Spear - extended reach polearms

So we just need axes, hammers, two handed straight swords and martial arts upgrades

Breaker Axe - For greataxes to damage equipment, inflict defense break or disable boss limbs

Berserker Blade - two handed sword with aggressive attacks

Thunder Hammer - knockback and stun with mauls

Dragon's Claw - advanced martial arts, beyond just punches.

Oh, I have a post for this:

This came up in the discussion thread. There's some stuff before this but the basic idea was that (discounting Heathcliff's Holy Sword) the skills would match up to basic weapons.
So:

One-Handed Straight Sword = <<Dual Blades>>
One-Handed Curved Sword/ Katana = <<Battoujutsu>>
One-Handed Rapier =???
One-Handed Dagger = <<Darkness Blade>>
One-Handed War Hammer =???
Two-Handed Straight Sword =???
Two-Handed Assault Spear =<<Infinite Spear>>
Two-Handed Battle Axe =???
Blade Throwing = <<Shurikenjutsu>>

The Rapier skill probably would have been some sort of piercing defense-bypasser. Probably something that could disable <<Immortal Object>> status to take down Holy Sword. <<God's Needle>>?

The Hammer...a Weakener? I mean something that would lower the durability of a material until it broke down. <<Shield Breaker>>

Two-handed Sword would probably be a Cloud Strife or Guts Expy able to wield super heavy blades. <<Heavy Blade>>.
Or maybe blade integration, that would be interesting. The reason their blade is so heavy is that they can fuse weapons, either with other blades or with materials.

Battle Axe...Battle Axe could be a Broken Phantasm. A Sword Skill that does ridiculous damage but shatters the weapon after use. << Axe Overdrive>>?
