The Slime wanted more food, but its current form was too slow and too limited to get him what he wanted. The slime remembered the bird thing that had attacked it that it had eaten and it remembered all of the weird green plants it had eaten.
One of those had given him much more energy than the other.
The slime did not hesitate to accept the evolution that the voice offered it. For a moment nothing happened before the slimes body began to shrink more and more. It struggles at the uncomfortable feeling but it was futile, before its body had been flexible and free. It could move however he wanted it to, but now it felt like its body had borders. Its slime could not extend past those borders, even as they shrunk rapidly. Energy being burned as the green slime formed something like a film over its body that served as skin and held its form.
What had formed was something of a mockery of the bats that flew around even now, but as the newly formed "green bat" stretched its limbs it noted that it felt much lighter than before. A quick flap sent its body hurtling upwards and the green bat felt exhiliration as air danced over its mucus-skin.
An exhiliration that grew even greater as the green bat launched itself at the nearest bat. The flying rodent stood little chance as the speeding slime slamed them both into the ground. Mimicry fangs struggled to push into the bats flesh, but once it succeeded the struggle ended quickly as the slime bat ripped apart and consumed its victim shortly.
Predation protocol triggered. Upgrade available.
Once its meal was finished it searched for another, but the bats fleed long before the slime could come close to them. It was annoying, the slime was hungry but now its food was running away. Why couldn't they just stay still like the plants had? They didn't seem to mind being eaten. They didn't even try to resist!
Suggestion. Insects are the natural prey of a bat.
Insect?
The bats head jerked towards a group of flying black thingies. They were tiny. Too tiny. They wouldn't fell the slime bat up at all!
Insects easy to hunt. Eat many.
Well, if the voice said so. It could try.
Wait, this was easier than the slime bat had thought. Many of the insects would dodge the slime, but there were so many of him that he always got at least a few every time it attacked. Even better, they didn't run away! Each insect didn't exactly fill up the slime bat much, but there were so many and so easy to catch in comparison to the bats that it didn't have to try too hard.
By the time the sun had started to rise in the sky the slime bat had more than eaten its fill. It laid upon the ground, a content smile upon its face. It was full of delicious energy. Energy that it could use to evolve even further.
Which was just what it would do.
What would you like to do next?
[] Hunt the local bats to extinction (requires upgrade, Predation protocol, bats)
[] Hunt rats
[] Hunt a dog
[] Move to a different area?
-[] Swamp, ocean shore or flying islands
If you were wondering why this quest sat still for so long, it was because i couldn't draw a bat. I still can't tho lol. Might stick to pixel art for this quest.
Green bat uses scratch and bite (3 attacks, 4's to hit. strength 1): 5, 4, 4
Bats defense is 1. Strength and toughness are equal. 4's to wound. Suprise attack adds +1 to wound for 3's to wound.
Skills and Abilities:
Flight: Capable of flight.
Echolocation: Can see even in pitch darkness at the cost of failing all stealth checks.
Photosynthesis: Able to generate energy by being in contact with the sun, extending the time the slime can go without hunting in proportion to how sunny its surroundings are.
New Melee weapon: Scratch and bite: The green bat scratches and bites at its foe.
Regeneration (5 energy): Recover lost biomass much faster by consuming organisms and moisture Core (5 energy): Serves as a magical heart for the body that regulates body functions. Unlocks new upgrades and allows the slime to use an action to shapeshift to one of its unlocked evolutions. Predation Protocol, Bats (5 energy): The system aids in finding and combating bats. Against such weak creatures as bats this will allow for a nigh effortless extinction of the local population.
Farm the newb zone a few more turns until we're stronger. Between photosynthesis and regeneration we should hopefully have improved ability to survive, escape, recover, and also be selective about our targets. I do like the idea of decimating vermin though :/.
