So...

Option 1: "Alright, you passed. Time to get serious."

Option 2: "Boohoo I am in Birdcage now and PRT falls apart. Just. As. Planned."

As someone who has read BCF and Mauling Snarks multiple times out of boredom, i actually quite like this fic and i will keep reading as long as it doesn't get to Varga levels of nothing happens.

I liked the chapter, the fight was fun, don't like Armmaster bringing Kid Win into this. While Kathy not wanting to hurt him might be true, He is bringing a ward to a fight against an extremely strong opponent. Can't wait for the consequences to hit the Beardmaster and everyone who assisted in/approved this clusterfuck.

Time to wait 4 months for the next chapter i guess

If 90% of the people with allies who get captured by the PRT get broken out in transit or on base:
95% of the 90% get broken out because PRT incompetence and Cauldron policy.
5% get broken out when Cauldron has no interest in their status either way and the PRT is its usual self.
0% get broken out (in PRT influence zone at least) when Cauldron does not want them free.

I doubt Kathy has any chance to break free with help from her allies when the Triumvirate has an interest in her continueing incarceration.
Maybe if she gets birdcaged and not delivered into some Cauldron Lab she can finagle something there...

We are talking about Servents with supernatural sneaking skills. It doesn't matter what Cauldron wants right now they have set up the system where almost all capes with allies escape. They can't suddenly turn that off when it's inconvenient for them that isn't how systems work especially when all said allies are blank spots on path to victory. I am actually surprised that they are capturing her I would have expected them to go for the kill they have to know they can't hold her, but all authority figures in Worm are usually dumb and incompetent at all level well at the same time never acknowledging their fallings.

It's not just Kid Win that should be commented on. One of the guild members has a power extremely similar to Cody/Perdition, Scapegoat is also a ward at this point in time and while Strider isn't he is a rogue and one of the top mass movers so it seems rather odd they are risking him just for teleporting one person into touch range unless they are again counting on her not targeting them.

Personally I found it pretty meh while it's true I still find it odd how non reactive to their actions she is and I'm not too happy with how they are getting to counter her so thoroughly like Scapegoat teleporting her suit off her somehow and Kid Win seeming to work out and implement how to shut down her magecraft so quickly I'm also not raging over it.

Really hope she stops being such a little bitch honestly, having read Tinker of Fiction, Kathy's Brockton Bay Adventures and I want a refund! almost back to back I can confidently say this is arguably the worst version of the concept.

Now with this chapter specifically however, I have no complaints other than her aforementioned limp wristed half assed stance on dealing with and entire guild task force and goddamn Alexandria but I really hope she goes "allright, I'm sick of your shit, time to play hardball."

For Tinker of Fiction fics of decent length there's also In Nuclear Fire and Plan? What Plan?. Personally, I too also hope Alexandria faces penalties she played stupid games so she should really win stupid prizes such as the arm Arondight hit getting a lot more damaged from the Overload and it sticking.

I was kinda expecting a longer chapter, but it makes sense to break it up here if there's a round two.

While i kinda agree with many who are fed op with doormat protagonist and can kinda see that echoing here, I also see that in context that's not whats happening. she's not letting them 'win' so much as, shes having a fun fight before she has to get back to work saving the world.

even if they 'win' their going to lose. because, and I think we can all agree, that they can't hold her, and she knows that. sure, they think they can, arrogance is one hell of a drug... (for cauldron especially).

anyway, so long as there's not a 'birdcage arc' I'm good with most anything. I really hope that any confinement only lasts for like, a single chapter. assuming things go that far.

What I hope for most is a "Fools! this isn't even my final form!" moment, and a second stage battle where she mops the floor with her allies helping. OR a instant peaceful escape leaving them all with a nothing to show for all the damage, illegal action, and risk. icing on top is she 'fix's the damages from the beginning of the fight in the populated area.

Staff Notice - You're on the edge of a personal attack here
This is just immensely boring. AuthorThis story is without an idea anymore, it's clear as a sunny day. It's just meh, Kathy became dull and predictable, on the level of S9. Like why? Why all of this? It's unnecessary, the whole thing. And the release rate does not help this stor, either. Frankly I completely forgot this even exists. Time to unwatch this.

"Scapegoat!" Dragon shouted into the coms.

As one Strider and Scapegoat appeared, and the latter managed to touch her.

Instantly her suit was gone and on Scapegoat while she was naked.
This doesn't match at all with what I know of Scapegoat's powers. He heals and transfers wounds, but taking her gear? Even if the gear was causing her damage, he'd just get the damage and not the gear itself.

I think the idea was sometbing akin to 'healing' her biomods, it's just that her suit is basically skin. So the consequences for grafting it to himself isn't going to be pretty.

Thought i would give this another chance. Ohman was that the wrong thing to do.

For now I will not address the comments directly. Just know this battle isn't over yet and I did get pointed out that this is a cliffhanger so my apologies for that. I wish I had more time for writing more consistently, but I am sadly no full time author. All I ask for is patience and I thank you for your kind words.

"But the moment I see Alexandria, I just… snap. I hate her, the way she does things, what she represents; I find it appealing.appalling"
I'm pretty sure this line's messed up unless Kathy's enjoying the hate.

I'm also not sure why everyone's complaining, the story's going at a rate of at most a couple of chapters per in-story day and that's thanks to things actually going on that take more than a chapter to properly show off. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this chapter more on a re-read, but even without a refresher beyond checking the last lines of the last chapter it was a fun fight. I can hardly wait to see what happened to Alexandria.

Armsmaster gave it two weeks before someone leaked that particular detail, and the Guild and Protectorate PR departments had to deal with another set of lawsuits for using it in a wide area in the middle of a city.
They are going full pants on the head... ugh if they tried just as hard with criminals the endbringers and scion Earth beth would be a utopic world

"She won't attack Kid Win," Armsmaster responded calmly as he detached the useless stump and grabbed the giant-sized halberd from his back.
I really doubt that quite a lot lmao

Like yeah not going lethal but not fighting at all? Seem unlikely

Specially kid win his self-esteem won't survive if she does that

"Ok," Scapegoat said, scraping at the bio-suit he was now wearing. "Now, someone gets to take this thing away from me because I can feel the inside of this thing touching me!"

Armsmaster offered no response; someone else would take care of this.

Instead, he focused back on the girl, who was now laughing.

He didn't feel like he had won.
No shit what was your first clue?

So she either will escape from the get go or she will ask what they want first maybe Katty Will just give up for now either way she's pandering them way too much regarless

Like those are grow ass adult the people in charge even not some villian of the week if she doesn't give up or escalate back from not reacting the next time they may just carpet bomb BB because they know they can fuck around with no consequences and they can't cage her

Oh well the fighting was good at least

I argue they plan this very well using capes with unique powers, its not like Kathy knows about international capes from Canada or Europe, I bet Taylor would easily get captured by this type of international taskforce with all the planning went into it even taking in her unknown powers.

Its really neat seeing the serious amount of effort and international assets acquired to deal with this, that it could contain Kathy for a time.
Kid Win need to get his ass kicked for helping in this high level operation.

But again, he transfers the wounds. Even if he could decide to 'heal' away something attached to someone - which isn't something he does, instead being able to transfer the wounds he gathers on himself onto someone else as a form of attack - it would just transfer the damage and nothing else.

He can't decide to heal away John's wounded skin and gain another layer of skin on himself while leaving John skinless, or Jane's heart and gain a new heart in his chest. He heals the target and their wounds get transferred, when he heals blindness his eyes are rendered blind - not that he takes their eyes away and replaces his own eyes with theirs.

To be exact he supposedly connects someone to an alt version of them and basically connects them letting the healthy version e.g. non blind version of Taylor overlay the existing one (blind taylor) so she can see again and he becomes blind. This is actually pretty important because Taylor had to stay close to him after he did it for a while because otherwise the connection would have snapped and she'd be blind again. For the same reason I think both of them had to avoid taking any hits because I think even doing things like getting thrown around inside a car was a risk to the connection which means that if someone hits either of them or she gets too far away she should get the armour back.

The reason I said supposedly connects btw is because when he comes back in Ward it kind of contradicts everything else in the verse about alt worlds/timelines because he talks about alt versions of himself with the same power, alt earth bets and alt scions when there should only really be 1 of all of those things.

"Sorry, sorry, but I think I figured it out. Her powers! When she did that shout and sped up, one of my suit scanners picked up a reading."
Tinkers are bullshit.
"I will take care of that." A fourth voice pitched in.

"Alexandria, no!" Dragon shouted back, "Narwhal and I already told you! Involving you, someone she clearly hates, is a bad idea!"

"She is out of the city; collateral is no longer an issue," Alexandria argued.

"What part of her trying to kill you didn't you understand?!"

"She isn't the first one to try." With that, a new light appeared on Armsmaster's HUD.
I thought that Kathy would tear off Alexanderia's helmet and like that force her to stop her involvement in the fight.
Instantly her suit was gone and on Scapegoat while she was naked.
She can sue them for child endangerment and nudity for minors. Nothing like them getting raked over that.

Thank you for the chapter. I'm grateful for your work.
