...God damn it, Cauldron. Even more stupid in this version then in canon, and in canon they were REALLY fucking stupid.

Legend being left in the dark? Fuuuuck.

Fuck them all. Part of me hopes Kathy gets to be able to destroy them because Cauldron were always stupid. In both creation and how they were used and how they acted.

Just to point out, Legend was willing to kill Echidna along with her victims, and Alexandria was the one against it for moral reasons (at least so she said) IIRC.

I can also say that during the Siberian confrontation where Hero died Legend gave it a civilian hostage for it to snack on so it'd stick around long enough for them all to gather and Alexandria was appalled by it when she arrived and was told.

While I still need to gather my thoughts on this chapter as a whole (because this was one heck of a chapter), I can certainly say this has been a good week for Tinker of Fiction stories, with both of the major ones updating within days of each other. I'm glad to see the genre is doing well.

Loved Legends and her discussion. I hope she said enough to make him want to search for more answers. I had wanted that she said that it was Cauldron that created C53s that would have had him on a warpath. That would motivate him like nothing else.

Liked Missys and Kathys time travel discussion. Missy: Huh, what do you mean you are wrong three different time periods?!

Has everything in the previous interlude happened before this or after this? Its a bit hard sometimes to know if its in a chronological order.

I hope she will create more Harvesters. She'll need to create many many and many things to make her more independent and powerful. I'm imagining a floating fortress in the nth dimension, dimensional mazes around her so it isn't visible and more than an exercise in frustration to come to visit, automatic harvesting of many many many materials, flight capable, dimensional jumping capable and full adoptive stealth capable.

I like that she has decided to take a more active hand in intelligence gathering.

Thank you for the chapter. I'm grateful for your work.

kathy needs a gods damed vacation at this pont.
Like hell she is getting one, she gets one week from the end of Echidna before things are on fire again! :D
Wow, Legend is the perfect figure-head/unwitting stodge. Have to wonder if he came like that or Contessa did some prompting etc.
I want to belive that he is all natural, save for the source of his power.
I can't wait till that reaches the ears of cauldron that she knows About Zion and Eden and that she knows that they at current times can't kill It and that the reason why she is doing things as she is is because of it and she knows just how outgunned she is and the fact Legend didn't know utterly threw her for a Loop or atleast just how much he didn't know
It might, the thing is that Cauldron is currently running without their little go to miss 'knows everything' so it's up to Legend.
@Hydralisk

The willingness to make harsh decisions do not discount the good he has done and wants to do. He is in a leadership position, I would have been surprised if he never had to make such choices.

Tho qutie frankly, that last one I am willfully ignoring because to me it just sounds like an edge-it-up fact to paint something needlessly dark.
She's probably thinking more about how Caldron might be able to use Echidna as another anti-Scion asset.
Just to point out, Alexandra and morals are two screwed lines; probably she saw Echidna like a discount offer in a supermarket; insert a parahuman and get a bunch back
Most likely correct.

Gota love how insane it sounds, but its canon, I looked through the interlude where Legend brought a lie detector to the Cauldron meeting and found some stuff out. It's right there, he doesn't know anything.

Poli and I seem to currently run a similar timing, tho mine would have come earlier if not for me finding out that Legend doesn't know anything. What a fun revelation that was...
Thanks as always!
Well...she ain't wrong. But she's trying to make it less stupid.
I am not even sure she is, she is trying to understand it in some way to not die in the process of holding it, and by extension herself over water. Really her making it less stupid is more a side effect.
Has everything in the previous interlude happened before this or after this? Its a bit hard sometimes to know if its in a chronological order.
The last two chapters happened more or less in the same timeframe, the next one will pick up right after both.

The last thing she wants is Legend on a war path, she wants him to keep things stable and he can do that best within the Protectorate being the leader he is.

Warframe doesn't really have harvesters, it has some extractors, but nothing besides that. I don't intent to take the easy rout with resources.

Cause guess what, after Warframe Kathy will notice that the Bay is empty, all ships gone, nothing left, Aria has picked it clean.
I also like how people spotted her up in the sky and actually went to try and mess with her
Yeah, cape teretories also including the sky is a thing if you consider mover powers are a thing.

I genuinely don't understand how she thinks that her victory shows Cauldron's methods don't work. She won because she was so powerful she could literally solve the entirety of the problem by herself with only her team. Yeah Cauldron has done tons of horrible shit and been very ineffective in many ways, but she's got massive advantages over them in both her knowledge and her power. It's literally the most powerful power in the world by a long shot. Certainly it requires some build up but in her current state she's practically unstoppable. The only thing that differentiates her from Cauldron is she actually knows how to kill Scion and hasn't been working and failing for years to try and keep enough of the world from falling apart. Otherwise her moral grandstanding would mean nothing, she doesn't succeed because of her methods but because of what she's been given (not to imply she didn't earn the victory but it wasn't her morality that let her win).

I think part of the problem is that over the years the Endbringers probably screwed over some of their actually sensible plans like for example when The simurgh fucked over the really good Vial Batch and made Echidna and the Travelers

One of the reasons it's hard to take Cauldron seriously as anything other than a reactionary plot device. There's being Contessa'd into not thinking too hard and then there's not asking why they didn't Door under Manton or the The Brooker when Legend thought they were making Case 53s for a decade. Same deal for the S9.

As Hydralisk said it's not surprising he had to make tough decisions in the field, but like his fellow Cauldronites they easily turned into stupid ones. Don't forget he sat around and did nothing even as he watched Piggot decide she didn't want Armsmaster to outshine her when it came to breaking S-class truces.
That's how poorly thought out they are not sure why they the illuminati expy was done so badly on worm tbh
I think LD1449 had a decent response to that here.

hmm Cauldron is stupid Evil overall a parody at worst a meme at best

Eh, that's going a bit too far, tbh. Like, sure, after analyzing them throughly they are disappointing for their role in the story, but for the work of one guy writing fifty drafts with twenty possible protagonists, it's not that bad.

Or why nobody stopped to ask "hey, wait a second, why exactly should a sociopathic nurse in training that can trigger at any point lead us?"

Eh it's probably close to the true...

I mean... I guess they are not that bad as character's individually but as secret Cabal controlling the world they just Crash and Burn

I like Cauldron as individuals, that is something Wildbow did very well, with all of them being a fun mess. But the organization is like an object lesson on how to not form a working group of people, the fact that they apparently did exactly what Eden would have done anyway is just icing on the cake at this point.

Also something I realized today; if Hero was still alive, he would by now easily be at Kathy's level if you consider exactly what his speciality is.

Also while Kathy is very powerful, she, and by extension myself, fully believe that if they just had put enough people working together instead of that shitshow they made with everyone gunning after everyone else, they could have had people by now of at least similar power level. Maybe not as a package, but at the very least with offensive firepower.

And the Endbringers where no excuse considering that they had access to other dimensions and the EB where still confined to Earth-bet.

"We have a problem."

"What?"

"Cauldron is overworked, without enough people. Doctor Mother asked Contessa to find suitable recruits."

"Sounds good so far."

"Her first recruit was more qualified than Doctor Mother at running a conspiracy. The others are more qualified than us."

"Hey! We're qualified! We were carefully selected-"

"-by surviving the Cauldron vials. Not qualifications. Turns out none of us are actually any good at this. We were just the default."

As someone who gave up on the original, can someone tell us what was Eden going to do? I've read a ton of ff but first time I hear of this.

And the Endbringers where no excuse considering that they had access to other dimensions and the EB where still confined to Earth-bet.
...wait. seriously?? That's canon? The endbringers can't leave earth bet?

If that's true, that seriously changes the game. Why was Cauldron even focusing on earth bet instead of building an organization on other worlds?

Idiots.

Ziz can for sure. About others cant remember but I am willing to bet should the need arise Ziz can also throw them there.

It was pleasant surprise to rediscover this fic after like year and find there's like 10 chapters or so. Nice.

People imo cut Legend too much slack. Guy's no Saint (pun not intended) by any stretch of imagination. Sure he wasn't privy to some of the more fucked up shit Cauldron did but he did knew some shady stuff was going on in the background and he never bothered to check. Is ignorance equals guilt?

Regardless, I am going to enjoy watching gov's operation "Totally wont end as an utter Trainwreck (pun not intended again)" unfold. Oh and new tech tree. Wonder what Kathy will draw next time

To correct myself, Ziz did attack them, once. She used the attack on Madison to use Haywires tech to break one of their dimensions to seal vials, break several case 53 free and create the Travelers. So to be fair, it happenend once, at least.

Not just that but will all the poorly configured thinker and tinker shard they have they should have enough to kill off Zion without much problem heck they have eden corpse to test thing and a knife 'wound' showing them an effing weak point

lmao even thought he let them kill him what finish off Zion was a gun Taylor made with a small tinker team in less than hour (food for the thought)
