Well, the vote is currently split. Currently, you're headed for claiming that a kaleidoscope is a toy. I'm trying to write an update, so Votes Locked.

[X] "A toy, that brings delight to young and old alike. Why might you ask?"

As to why I'm so slow these days... real life, on top of possibly designing a Quest system that could be fitted into most quests. Though that has led to the beginnings of a RPG system as well...

@Random Tale Hey, the votes are currently a tie between toy and of course I do.

Vote is still open. Bondo just recast his vote for the same thing, so its 4-3 in favor of claiming a kaleidoscope is a toy.

Also, I've finally updated the Index and the Threadmarks, so we should be all up to date again.

Grimlock and Return to Mitakihara
Grimlock's Stall

You think for a moment before answering the man's question.

"A toy, that brings delight to young and old alike," you state, before turning a question onto him. "Why might you ask?"

The man looks at you for a few more moments before shaking his head. "I thought you were someone else," he admits, "who is known by my family for making kaleidoscopes. We've never met the man, but we have heard of him. You have his name as your username, so I'd thought I'd ask."

It is likely that Grimlock before you is a magus, and he was seeing if you were actually the master of the Kaleidoscope rather than just a regular player who managed to get lucky. Still, you have no need to reveal yourself to him; you have enough on your plate right now, and you don't need to add a connection with him yet, if at all.

Although, this version of Grimlock there brings up an interesting possibility; if Grimlock is a magus, and Kayaba is a magus, who else in Aincrad are magi from the outside? You doubt that you have met all the magi from Earth in Aincrad yet, but surely they can't number more than a couple hundred.

But there is another possibility of why you are holding back; in most versions of Aincrad, around the fiftieth floor, Grimlock had his wife killed because she was too outgoing, taking a shine to the role of a leading warrior, when he was used to her being the traditional passive wife. Assuming that the timeline doesn't change too much, that was something that you could look forward to.

…Assuming you decide to not personally intervene before that point, that is.

You lift up the steel scimitar, eyeing it closely. "I see," you state. "Sorry for the confusion. How much for this scimitar?"

"300 Col," Grimrock states. "And that's a special price for you. If anyone else confuses you for the kaleidoscope maker, send them my way."

[X] Decline
[X] Write-In

After thanking Grimrock for his time, you wandered around the Town of Beginnings continuing to explore. There were a couple of other things that caught your eye, but nothing to really keep a hold of your interest, yet.

Eventually, after about an hour, you returned to the Dancing Hag Inn. While Homura could very well help out in Aincrad, the only methods she knew how would wind up drawing attention very quickly.
The creator looked at the newcomer in surprise.
She was used to working with few, if any, people, and if she was forced to work with too many when she didn't think of it herself, you doubt she would take it well.
"One of Zelretch's pranks?" he asks himself, examining her equipment.
When you approach your room, though, you see Asuna standing outside the door, a hand on her rapier.
"How many guns does she need?" the creator asks in surprise.
"Zelretch-san," she states, looking in your direction.
"******** is going to have a field day with this…"
"Yes?" you ask.

The girl looks at you for several seconds, before closing her eyes and taking a breath. "You're… not working with the Incubators willingly, are you?" she asks.

You raise an eyebrow in surprise. "They told you?" you ask.

"You knew too much about Mi-Madoka," she nervously explains, opening her eyes with some fear in them. "When you… talked with her, you told her of what had happened in reality. She told me what happened herself, and now a friend of hers is backing her up."
"Big Sister, let me take control of your next floor."
She stares silently at you for several seconds before backing away, letting you head to the room you have claimed, where Homura is hugging an uncomfortable Miyaka on the bed.
"They have weapons from a much later floor now."
"Homura," you state. "You cannot stay here. It's time to return to Mitakihara."
"And I might be able to get rid of the biggest imbalances if I do this right…"
Slowly, Homura detaches herself from the other girl, holding her hands for a few more seconds before letting go.

"Kaname-san…" she says, "please, stay safe…"

Madoka leans forward to hug Homura before letting her go again, allowing Homura to stand and face you. "I'm ready," the girl states, lifting her shield up.

Nodding in understanding, you turn towards Miyaka. "Thank you for coming, Miyaka," you state with a joking smile on your face. "Although I can't remember why I called for you in the first place. It couldn't have been that important in the first place. Why don't you and Asuna go out and do your own thing for the rest of the day, all right? Perhaps study some cooking?"

Madoka bids you and Homura farewell as she leaves the room, allowing you to close the door behind her.

"If anything happens to her," Homura warns, "I don't care how powerful you are, I will try to shoot you before I go to my next world."

"I wouldn't blame you for trying, but I don't think I'll let myself be shot," you reply, before twisting the Kaleidoscope.

Mitakihara Town

You appear with Homura on a roof of a building near Mitakihara Middle School.

"Earlier this morning," you state, "a demon appeared in Mitakihara while you were asleep. While you would probably be the best for the job, it would be a good idea to have Hitomi and Kyousuke fight it for them to get some practice."

Homura nods in understanding, looking down at the school with you.

There should be an hour before school gets out for the day. What do you want to do?
[X] There is a limousine down in the street near the school. Perhaps you should check it out?
[X] Wait by the front gate. You probably should meet up with the two children as they exit.
[X] Best wait where you are, just to be safe.

Awww that was the "dont say anything" option? I thought it was just being obscure for joke´s sake....should have voted for the other one....

Well, its been a few days since I posted the call for votes. Despite there being only two votes, I'll press onwards and start writing the response. Unless more votes pop up between now and the point I post, Zelretch will be taking a closer look at the limousine.

[X] "Hmhm well the name is a little of an inside joke on the family so dont worry about it"
[X] Add each other to friend list, its always useful to have more contacts.

Meet the Shizukis
Grimlock's Stall

You brought up a trade window, placing the requested Col into your side.

"Hmhm," you nodded. "Well, the name is a little of an inside joke on the family, so don't worry about it."

Grimlock accepted, looking at you in surprise and handing you the sword.

Then, you decided to add him to your friend list, so he could contact a potential magus.

As you walked away, you felt his eyes staring at your back in amazement.

Mitakihara Town

You look down the street of the school and notice a limousine down there, parked off to the side so that other cars can go around it.

"Excuse me for a moment," you tell Homura. "Something has caught my attention."

You sense the girl nod as you twist the Kaleidoscope twice, appearing safely out of sight near the limousine. You approach on foot, noticing two people in the car, a man in the driver's seat and a woman in the passenger's seating area.

As you draw near the car, the woman glances in your direction idly, before staring at you for several seconds. With a twisted look on her face, showing conflicting emotions of fear and determination, she opens the door and steps outside.

She has tiredness on her face, like she spent several nights up worrying over something without relief. However, on second glance she looks like a much older version of Hitomi.

"Schweinorg," she intones, looking at your face.

There is hatred in her eyes, directed at you.

"The elder Miss Shizuki," you calmly reply.

"Yes," she states. "And I want you to keep your hands from dragging into your moonlit world."

You chat for a couple minutes, the woman getting angrier and angrier, telling you to leave her family out of the darker parts of the world, while you calmly tried to deflect her words. She doesn't know much about the world hidden from the sight of normal people, only what she had gathered from what her daughter had told her and what she had read from the magecraft notes of Hitomi's ancestor that she had confiscated from her daughter after they had gotten them from the mayor of the town. But she had learned enough about it that Hitomi's mother was of the opinion that it would be best to stay out of it.

Finally, you decided to simply put her to sleep so that you could think.

Hypnosis: 1d20+5=6+5=11
Hypnosis DC: 8= Success
Hypnosis +1

To your surprise, she resisted your hypnosis, but only for a moment before falling to the ground asleep. The driver quickly got out of the car in response, grabbing a metal baseball bat, before another quick glance put him to sleep as well.

It seems that Miss Shizuki has magic circuits as well, though it doesn't seem like she knows about them, or even intentionally uses them.

It could explain where Hitomi gets her circuits from, at any rate.

You move the unconscious woman onto a seat of a car, and then move the driver back into his seat as well. You place the bat under Hitomi's mother's seat; while you don't want them to lose it, you also don't want them grabbing it and trying to fight you; it would be inconvenient for everyone.

Once the two are settled, you spot an old wooden chest with some dirt still on it, about the side of your head. Deciding to pass the time, you open it and see several notes.

There are a few warnings of magecraft, some tips on how to perform the basic three of alteration, projection, and reinforcement better, and beginner notes on bounded fields. Most of it was already covered in common beginner magecraft books today, though there are a couple of pointers you can use yourself.

However, the real prize laid in the family specialty. While the crest was long gone, the notes held information on…

[X] Body magic, able to strengthen bodies to increase healing rate and strengthen limbs, often allowing the bearer to remove the tummies of enemies with a single punch.
[X] Plant magic, able to twist plants to the will of the family. The forest itself is an ally, while more effort must be taken to achieve the same results outside of it, often requiring preparing the battlefield.
[X] Time magic, able to isolate the body's personal flow of time to allow it to speed up for short durations, although the difference in time is enforced after the burst. Wait, this seems familiar…
[O] Write-in Not this time

[X] Write-In something you wish to do?
[X] Skip to end of school day

I owe you big time for this. I've been busy with tasks in Real Life that I'm suddenly realizing are not as easy as I first thought. I can only give my apologies for this massive delay.

At any rate, I promised you would get a chance to choose Hitomi's family magecraft so here you go.

Also, a side note: even if I am slow, you are free to write omakes about events or possible events in this game. These omakes do not have to be relating to Zelretch's activities directly. You'll be able to stockpile omake bonuses for rolls, and if this quest comes to a close for any reason, I'll be sure to carry those bonuses over to my next quest, if I start one.

Hm any reasons to your own choices? we should discuss things before anything else~

Time magic is cool and all, but there's already more than enough time mages running around. I'll change my vote for the second half if anything more interesting gets suggested.
