A Simple Talk
Homura's Residence

You could offer her some happy memories from an alternate of herself, or you could take her to Aincrad, but the simplest way to possibly help Homura is to talk with her.

You take a seat on one of her couches closing your eyes in thought like the old man you are. Perhaps it is time to act like a grandfather?

"Why don't we sit down, Homura?" you ask. "I know a few stories I could tell you."

She looks hesitant, before you twist the Kaleidoscope and borrow a few cookies and a plate from somewhere. A quick structural grasp double checks that they aren't tainted in any way, before you offer them to the girl.
"Harold! Have you been stealing cookies from the jar again?"
Once Homura sits down, you start a story. A tale you have seen and told many times, but rarely told from a certain point of view.

You tell the story of Waver Velvet, a boy seeking recognition, who foolishly entered the Fourth Holy Grail War just to prove himself. How he summoned Iskander the Rider, and how they fought in the Grail War, focusing exclusively on the pair. They fought with the monsters of Caster, flattened Assassin, and rode against Gilgamesh before Rider disappeared. In the end, while Waver Velvet didn't win the War, he came out a better person than when he entered.

Five years later, he was teaching in his former teacher's place, encouraging students. And today, he was fighting for Iskander's dream, to conquer an entire world.

Probably not the best story to tell, but it is one of the few that were on the forefront your mind recently. At least you focused on the two 'heroes' of the story, leaving out the other points of view that would make the story more dreadful.

It isn't much, but it seems to have helped Homura slightly.

Homura: +1 Mental Stamina

You've killed a couple hours of time just speaking to Homura. Hitomi and Kyousuke shouldn't be out of school for the day for another two hours.

Do you want to do anything?

[X] Write-In?

I'm not happy with how this turned out, but I've delayed enough for this as it is.

Also, a heads up: we might have a time limit before I have to put this quest on hold, in November. Might; don't know anything for certain, yet, but thought I'd let you know since this quest promises to be long.

[X] Ask her if she wants the happier memories.
[X] Take her to Aincrad.
By the way, we voted to take her to Aincrad. Why did we just talk to her?

Nevermind. Main vote and sub-vote thing.

Right now Madoka do not trust us. However, if we bring Akemi to her, she might be cleared of the misunderstanding that we are an Incubator.

Sorry for the delay. I've had to do some self-reflection in reality over the past couple of days. At any rate, this vote won:

[X] "I can't let you stay there, but I can take you to visit Madoka for a while, if you'd like? It may be good for the both of you to see each other and talk.."

Locking Votes. I will try to get an update up within twenty-four hours.

It looks like I failed to get that update out within the promised timeframe. I'm very sorry about that; it looks like I pulled an April Fool's on myself (and everyone following this quest) unintentially.

I've been trying to write the update off and on over the past few days, and I've started wondering... what kind of update would you prefer?

[X] Summary: Gives a quick update summarizing what happened, but doesn't give much, if any, flavor. Update speed: Very Fast.
[X] Overview: Gives an update that describes more details of the events, but still isn't in-depth. Update speed: Medium
[X] Detailed: Gives an update that wouldn't be out of place in a book. However, updates will be slow. Update speed: Slow.

I can give a Summary update within an hour, while it won't take too much longer with an Overview. I've been trying to go for a Detailed update, but considering how much I've been struggling with it, I figured I'd best check in with you.

Taking a Follower to Aincrad
Homura's Residence

You could leave Homura as she is at the moment, but, while she is better than before, you doubt it would take much to push her back towards despair.

There is an easy fix for you to do, though.

"I can't let you stay there," you state, "but I can take you to visit Madoka for a while, if you'd like? It may be good for the both of you to see each other and talk."

It would be killing two birds with one stone. Madoka and Homura were currently with weak mental endurance, and being with each other would be beneficial to restoring that weak balance.

Sure, you would blow your cover as just an old man to Madoka, but if the hospital in the city was destroyed by the demon, you would have to blow your cover to her eventually anyway to keep her alive.

Homura looks surprised at your suggestion, eyes going wide as she looks at you, with a mixture of hope and fear in them. Hope of being reconnected with a friend, fear of being deceived.

She isn't normally this emotional; it is normally sealed away, but entering the Moonlit World has cracked that seal. You do not think that crack will be there much longer, though.

"Yes," Akemi states. "Please."

Floor 1: Dancing Hag Inn

You appear back in the Inn you had spent the night in, before Kayaba kidnapped you from your room. This time, however, you are not alone.
The will of ******* looks up in hope.
'Homura' has appeared with you, looking around with surprise.
The will of ******* looks on in fury.
"This is virtual, correct?" she asks in confirmation.
The will of ******* is forced to stir by the will of *******.
"Yes," you admit. "But even though it is virtual, in the words of another person in another world, 'This is our reality.'"
The creator of the three does not pay attention.
"Did they too get trapped in a game?" she inquires.

"Yes," you state. "Normally, the game that speaker gets trapped in is 'Elder Tales', but due to some odd quirk of fate, he's trapped in this game as well."

Homura nods, trying to wrap her head around what you stated. You notice that Homura has a yellow icon above her head; probably because of the preemptive attacks on Puella Magi back on Earth, though how the system recognizes it, you don't have much of an idea.

"Let me see if I can get her to come here," you state, moving your hands to bring up the player menu.

As you move to send a private message, you idly note that your friend list is empty; you might want to fix that sometime.

You send a private message to Miyaka, asking her to come visit you privately for a surprise. While waiting, Homura looked more closely around the room; it seems that she is surprised that this world is so like her own despite being virtual.

A few minutes later, you receive a message back, but not from Miyaka. It's instead from Iskander, who took the beginnings of his army out about an hour ago after breakfast to get everyone trained up for the gathering in two weeks. While he doesn't mind the disruption at the moment, Miyaka seems to be distrusting of you and won't come see you alone. Asuna is going to come with her.

Well, Homura needs the support, and if Madoka won't come on her own, perhaps an extra friendly face will help Homura out.

"I'm going to leave you for a bit," you tell Homura. "Don't leave this room, but let Madoka and the girl she is with in. They'll be under the names of 'Miyaka' and 'Asuna'. Please don't let them know of magecraft on Earth just yet; they have enough to deal with here right now. I'm going on a walk."

With that, you leave the room and head out to the rest of the Town of Beginnings. While there is still a significant number of people on the streets, it is still nowhere near the number that had been in the Town on the first day. Over a thousand dead, and many more are in other towns or fighting elsewhere in Aincrad.

Hopefully, there would be fewer deaths in this world compared to other versions of Aincrad, in the long term.

As you walk down a street, you notice a stall where a man is selling a half-dozen steel weapons. While steel weapons were uncommon, but rare, at this stage of the game, there were almost none of this quality.

A few quick Structural Grasps determined that.

+1 Structural Grasp

The player selling them is wearing a dull-looking set of armor, like he's trying to avoid drawing attention to himself. However, there is a hint of surprise in his eyes as he looks at you, before he finally asks you a question.

"Do you know what a kaleidoscope is?" Grimlock asks you, watching you carefully.

[X] Write-In

OOC: This took far too long. I hope I can make it up to you.

[X] "A toy, that brings delight to young and old alike. Why might you ask?"

Oh boy is this one of the surprises that our alternatives manage to cook up?
