Journeywoman's Journeys, A Fantasy Age of Exploration Worldbuilding Quest (Updated Daily)

[X] ... Augurs' Society
Each of the peoples of Khot-Sen-Lanua brought their own divinatory traditions to the city, each valuable in their own right. However, these techniques have achieved new heights under the auspices of the Augurs Society. Multiple parallel divinations, combined and cross-referenced by Guild Augurs, can produce startlingly accurate predictions.

The Augurs have used these abilities to produce effective long-range weather forecasts for the many ships that pass through Khot-Sen-Lanua's harbor, and to offer insurance to the city's merchant-adventurers. The Augurs guard their monopoly jealously, and many travelling mystic have been tossed out of the city on the charge of "unlicensed divination"

Oi! You got a loicense for that portent of doom?

[X] Bonebinders Guild

What Is Crazy About Wanting Your Bones?

[ ] …Founded by Arcane Warriors << Silef

Lithe and feline featured, these peoples are related to the semi-nomadic peoples that populate large swaths of the continent. Reputed for intelligence and aggression, this group swept into the area centuries ago in a mass migration from their homeland, from which they brought their ancient magical traditions.

Settled by the influence of their neighbours, these people founded institutions to pass on their arcane knowledge and prevent its loss. Over time the learned men and women of surrounding areas travelled to this city to learn at these institutions and brought their own ways of thinking with them.
[X] …Glittering Spears
I think this fits the Silef backstory the best.
...Not that we need to fit the backstory, the mother's Silef Clan could simply be non-traditional.
Just my preference.

[X] …Oarsmans' Association
For the Father, this seems the best pairing with Glittering Spears.
Oarsmans' transport and logistics, to support Glittering's mercenaries.
...Though the name sounds really awkward.
Maybe change it to Oarmans' Association, removing the first 's'?

As for the rest, they're all interesting.
Let them all exist, somewhere.

[X] Bonebinders Guild:
Necromancers specializing in Osteomancy; the use of bones to create tireless laborers bound to the will of the Binder who is hired out as a Supervisor for the often monotonous or dangerous tasks that these Bonemen are hired.

The Bones used are always, the Guild insists, donated or bought. But unsavory rumors persist that a Skilled Bonebinder, properly paid, can make someone disappear...only to add the bones to their collection.

Osteomancy requires a firm grasp of mundane medicine, and so the Guild is just as often hired to set bones as it is to use them.

Oh! Can we be resurrectionist?

I'm just shotgunning everything that seems interesting. I want the city to be interesting.

The rune carvers is a guild of artificers specialized in enchanting through the engraving of made-up symbols or pictures into objects. It's filled with eccentric mages with a penchant for art who "just had to" find a way to integrate it with their magic, the Tattooists hate them...

[] Herald League

A fleet of coal powered airships ply the routes between the cities of the Confederation bringing news, correspondence and important diplomats. On their swift ships made from metals almost lighter than air they bind the world together and ensure the lines of communication remain open.

[x] Gunpowder Makers

The Gunpowder Makers are a new organization, with a reputation for eccentricity and curiosity. The main way they make money is by creating gunpowder through secret rituals and methods, but individual Makers also create a variety of alchemical and material products for more specialized, unusual purposes, including creating unique perfumes and special medicines.

Each individual Maker has secret methods, although there have been recent pushes for more individual transparency, with factions within proposing creating a unified city library, among other ideas. Many have also begun experimenting with using gunpowder and other alchemical products to make better boats and airships.

A Growing Girl

As the youngest member of a clan defined by archaeology Anne-Seht grows up surrounded by the echoes of the past, surrounded by discussion of the latest Archaeological discoveries and historical mysteries.

Annasevai, the clan Matriarch is a leading member of the Archaeologists Compact, with dozens of expeditions and discoveries to her name in a long and successful career.

Anne's mother, Resennai, is less ambitious than her grandmother, with no plans to rise above her current station as an archivist for one of the city's top universities. She's happy to work in back rooms, away from the general public, where she can happily spend her time preserving and organising her beloved books and artefacts.

It's only on very rare occasions that Resennai even brings her daughter to work due to the delicate nature of her workplace, but her regular schedule also means that she's home to see her daughter.

Anne's father, Seth, is often at work too, but has a more varied schedule, working for the Oarmans Association, where he spends much of the day overseeing one of the warehouses that supplies the northern districts of Khot.

Seth's more ambitious than his wife, dreaming of someday directing logistics for the entire habour or being the Oarsmans' representative at the raucous congresses that set production targets for the coming year. This ambition has Seth working later hours and spending time networking with colleagues and important persons from the guilds.

Despite, or perhaps because of, his job keeping him away from his family, Seth often carries his daughter with him as he goes about his normal day to day routine where he brags about the clear intelligence and curiosity of his adorable daughter to everyone around him.

As Anne-Seht grows through her early milestones, learning to walk, learning to talk, and learning about the world around her. Anne learns that the best parts of the year are the city's festivals and holidays, with her favorite being…

[ ] …Halana

A harvest festival adopted from the area's indigenous Orisatl peoples, this traditional festival was three days of banqueting and largess as Orisatl matriarchs compete to give away their prosperity to as many people as possible and gain prestige from their generosity.

In current times, the city's guilds and associations have joined in as well, often giving away their services and products for free to all during this period, and making it a popular time for the guilds to conduct negotiations and settle conflicts that have cropped up over the previous year.

This has led to the popular saying "Leave it for Halana" which means to "agree to mutually forget about a disagreement until it naturally fades away in time"

[ ] ...Aground Day

A midsummer celebration of the day that a large boat belonging to a member of the Haraakai diaspora ran aground on the island that would become the site of their first settlement of the area. A day that is considered the legendary founding of Khot-Sen-Lanua.

This day is often marked by transfer of public offices, debt forgiveness, and public largess of all kinds, as well as a sailpast through the city's many canals by the maritime guilds accompanied by fireworks and arcane magic displays to wow the citizen and visitor alike.

This day is also when treaties signed in the last year are officially ratified, often leading to this festival being attended by a variety of foreign dignitaries.

[ ] …Starchange

Set on the vernal equinox of each year, Starchange is an ancient Kal Ymi tradition centered on the first day of the year where it was believed an accurate detailed reading of the year ahead could be made.

Marked by ceremonial divinations and the accession of ancestors into being saints, it is also the time when existing bands split and old ones merge.

In modern Khot-Sen-Lanua, Starchange now marks the end of winter and is a day to celebrate the coming of the spring, and is often marked by the throwing of auguries and giving of blessings. It is also the date when the leaders of Ken-Sen-Lanua recommit to their partnership with the Kal Ymi bands of the area.

I've established observances for the indigneous peoples of the area, and the Harakai, and I encourage you to come up with celebrations attributed to the other peoples as well. While the winning vote will be the one to most influence Anne-Seht, any Write In (120 words today) that receives at least three votes will be part of the city's yearly observances in some way.

[X]...Nartanatotin (Dance Of The Dead)

An Amravolk Tradition with roots in their ethnic veneration for the dead, this is a loud and boisterous affair, with often garish costumes incorporating skulls draped in the colors of Purple and Gold, Death and Life in the Amravolk style. Taking place on the Autumn Solstice, a day held to be the time when the veil between the Underworld and The World of the Living is thinnest. Sweets are given to all that ask and offerings made to insure against haunting ghosts. The day is filled with friendly contests and festivals, while night is full of revelry of a more crass fashion, often taken advantage of by youths using the cover of mischievous spirits to cause trouble.

Gotta have Day of The Dead/Halloween/The Day Where The Bonemen do Funny Dances
