"Is there... something that you want me to get from in there?" I ask.
"There isn't anything in there that would be of any use for me." Steel says. "But... I was researching some the Bow and Arrow and collecting information on different Stand Users. Maybe something in there could help you"
"The what?" I ask. Why would you need to research a bow and arrow?
"Oh, you don't know, do you?" Steel asks. I shake my head. "The arrow is made of a piece of a meteor. If someone is been pierced, then they may be able to develop a Stand of their own."
"Really?" Honestly, at this point, the best thing to do is to smile and nod.
"Yes." Steel says. "I always keep a spare key under the trash can in the alley behind the store. You can use that to go inside"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Steel said, there is a key under the trash can right next to the back door. There is a bit of police tape hanging from the door, clearly taken down long ago. If you had to guess, the police had given up on finding anything here. Shrugging, I unlock the back door and enter.
I go up a flight of stairs and go into the second floor apartment. When I get there, the first thing that throws you off is how... neat everything is. Not to say that there isn't a mess. Some clothes, debris, are strewn around the apartment, drawers are left open, with their contents rooted through, and furniture had been moved.
But there isn't a drop of blood or signs of violence anywhere. There seems to have been people searching the apartment, but that could easily be the police looking for evidence. I'd think that if someone was murdered here, that there'd be a little bit of blood around. Maybe the police cleaned it up?
You search the apartment up and down, trying to find Steel's books. Eventually, find a several journals in a desk in the bedroom, along with a single photo. In the photo is a man, who looks like he's in his late 20's to early 30's and a younger woman. If I had to guess, they're father and daughter.
"Is that... you?" I ask Steel, holding up the photo.
"No." Steel says. "That is Berlin and Alicia. They are... they're good friends of mine."
"Oh..." I say. Well, it's not like Steel was in that radio all his life. Makes sense that he'd have friends. Wait, do they know what happened to Steel? "Do they know-"
"They know about what happened to me." Steel says. "And they're alright. Maybe one day, you'll meet them."
One is labeled Stand Notes. I open the notebook. Inside, are notes about various Stands.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dan Penn: My own Stand. It takes the form of countless levitating hands. Can turn memories into physical records. The memories can be either mine or others, though I have to be aware of those memories.
Element of Freedom: Absorbs and collects life force from people. This life force takes the form of floating balls of fire, ice, or electricity. They constantly absorb the life force of others to create more of themselves. This process is involuntary on the part of the User.
Living Things: Allows the User to create non living copies of people out of corpses.
Murderdolls: Allows dolls and mannequins to be controlled from a distance by attaching a strand of hair. It doesn't transmit damage to the user.
Alhirt: An automatic Stand that takes the form of many large, insect-like entities. The insects are controlled by a "Queen" that must stay near the User.
Personality: A Stand that can alter a person's personality. The target of this ability much consent to the change. If the target is a Stand User, it is possible that this change could also change their Stand as well.
Howlin' Wolf: A beast-like Stand whose howl can create shockwaves.
Divide: I sadly don't know much about this Stand. It takes the form of a black sludge, and can infect others. What this infection leads to is unknown.
Ocean Blue: A Stand that can charge the User's blood, sweat, and tears and launch them as projectiles.
Never Ends: This Stand can increase the frequency of a repetitive action beyond what it would normally be.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I put the book in my bag and take a look at the other book. This book is much smaller, barely larger than your hand. You open it and start reading. Unlike the first notebook, the letters are all in print, and the same letters look exactly the same. It was as if written with a typewriter or typed on a computer.
Is this how it looks when Steel uses Dan Penn?
I open the book and start reading.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'It's the bow and arrow... That's the cause of this whole catastrophe. It has the power to awaken latent Stand powers... I'd tested it many times to no ill effect, but that day was different...'
"...an unbelievable thing occurred. The arrow broke apart, scattering the pieces everywhere. I don't remember how it happened... It was almost like it shattered on it's own."
"That was when it all started. Bizarre accidents began occurring around town one after another. Things that seemed like they couldn't be the work of human beings."
"Then, today, I received a visitor. He too, was a Stand User. He introduced himself, then, in a detached voice, began to say..."
'I apologize, but you know too much about my powers. I came here to dispose of you.'
"That man is my murderer. I don't know what his abilities are, the fight was over quickly. But I managed to record his name on the last page of this book. Please, if you are reading this, watch out for Stand Users"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I used my Stand, Dan Penn, to transcribe my final thoughts." Steel said. "That arrow, that caused so many disasters I was hoping that I could make up for it. If only in a small way."
I nod as I take all of this in. Whoever the killer was, he must be dangerous. If he's working for Dio, then he would be a truly dangerous foe. It's even worse that Steel doesn't know anything about the Stand User.
Seeing nothing else that you can do here, you leave the building, putting the key back where it was. By now, you should start heading home to get ready for tomorrow. Whatever you'll face, you need to be prepared. You'll also need the time to rest and decompress. hough you have some time to do one more thing.
