Why is there nothing on here about her yet?

(Whoever's in charge of making these teasers isn't paid enough)

Alias remains one of my favorite comics, and from what I can tell this is going to capture the feel of that series to a T. I'm even more stoked about this than I was for Daredevil, and that show blew my fucking face off.

I like how the Defenders shows seem to have a simmilar colour pallet so far, with the exception of each shows' 'theme colour'. Daredevil had red, and it looks like Jessica Jones is going to have purple - not that it could have been any other colour.

I hear that name a lot when looking up stuff about Marvel (not a comic reader). Who is she and why is she so popular?

Jessica Jones (in comics) has the dubious honor of being the first protagonist of the Marvel MAX (aka, the R rated comics) line. Her storyline is that she tried being a superhero as a teenager, before being captured by a supervillain with magic voice powers who held her captive for eighteen months while doing stuff to random women while she watched. Would turn anyone off to the gig.

Anyways, cut to now. Jessica runs a Private Detective agency which has a tendency to get mixed up in crimes done by empowered individuals. In the comics, she hooks up with another super, has a kid, and gets handed the keys to Avengers mansion when Iron Man and Cap decide they need to go off on their own.

There's also the fact that her captivity only ended after said supervillain had a temper tantrum and ordered her to go to the Avengers mansion to beat the shit out of Daredevil (Even though he was not and never was there), which caused her to punch out the first red-clad Avenger she saw: Scarlet Witch. The Avengers did not take kindly to this and promptly ganged up on her, and the only reason she's still alive is because the then-Miss Marvel Carol Danvers realized what was going on and saved her from being pummeled completely into the ground by Vision, Thor, and Iron Man. She still spent months recovering in a hospital, and when she got out she was still dealing with huge PTSD issues from her time being mind-controlled. So she quit.

I doubt the show's backstory will include the Avengers, as show-MCU and Movie-MCU only interact in a "trickle down" sense, so I'm interested to see how they get around that. A big part of the reason Jessica was disillusioned with the idea of being a superhero was getting the shit kicked out of her by her childhood idols, mind control or not. Kilgrave's...abuses will probably be expanded to take up the slack.

Or, since she'd have no IRL idols (assuming that she started heroing back before Iron Man happened), she took a shot, got Purple Man'd, and decided that there was o such thing as super heroes or otherwise threw in the towel on such a 'childish' ambition.

I'm kind of hoping they give her a more interesting story then "And then she was mind raped!"

Like, its been seven years since Iron Man came out and we explicitly know that low key supers have been running around since WWII.

Given that the Defenders storylines are all supposed to dovetail into each other I'm guessing her background will have something to do with all the mystical whatsits that Daredevil hinted at but never got around to fully exploring.

Most of that looked like Iron Fist setup though.

One of the other reasons Jessica quit superheroing was because she got kidnapped for as long as she was... and NO ONE NOTICED. She had made that little impact as a heroine.

Poor thing.

That, and it's somewhat hard to keep superheroing when your only memory of your old idols involves them beating the shit out of you in a blood rage.

My one fear is that too many people will leather pants the Purple Man because of Tennant. I mean you combine and attractive charismatic actor, with a dangerous intense villain I can see a lot of SI fan fics coming out of this, like what happened with the Joker after Dark Knight came out.

Your worst case scenario here is literally that there will be bad fanfiction.

Well yeah, it's a tv show, I don't see it being the cause of the nukes to drop.
I was just taking a crack at the fact that you're not really worried about a bad Purple Man portrayal or a bad show or anything else I would consider remotely 'serious' in a discussion like this, but since this is a better topic: you also don't seem to think that the footage will impart diseases or that it will result in a rise in rapes or murders.

I mean I'm a DC fan and I'm not a big fan of Jessica Jones as a character or of Alias as a comic itself so I don't have a lot of skin in the game so to speak.
