Italia Divided - a Roman Alternate History Auest

Turn 2

Rome have furthered good relations with Carthage relations during the 4 years that passed, Rome have promised Carthage that, should they win against the Pyrrhic Empire, that it would give Sicily back to Carthage, in return, Carthage would help the Romans by giving them military aid in a hypothetical Second Pyrrhic War, in addition, Rome has started to expand the size of its army through recruitment, helping the, in the upcoming war with the Pyrrhic Empire, in other news, a new aqueduct is built in the Aniene River, supplying more towns with water, and the Roman citizenry happy.

General Affairs: with the upcoming Second Pyrrhic War becoming all the more certain, we need to prepare for the coming war, our citizenry also needs to be taken into account (select 4 choices)

[ ] Professional Training: instead of wasting our time recruiting more untrained conscripts, we could recruit the same amount of conscripts but give them better training, to make more experienced and elite in order to combat the Pyrrhic Empire (the Roman Army would receive better training, increasing the quality of the legions, incompatible with More Conscripts)

[ ] More Conscripts: conscript more men into the fight, we get as many of them as possible to fight and make them patriotic (more people are recruited to the coming war, allowing the legions to potentially outnumber the Pyrrhic Army, as well as boasting morale, imcompatible with Professional Training)

[ ] Fortify Our Borders: we need to fortify our borders in case the Pyrrhic Empire were to invade us first (Rome would fortify its southern border, allowing it to halt the Pyrrhic advance)

[ ] Liberate Our Former Territories: our Roman territories are clearly unhappy under the Pyrrhic yoke, we should support their cause of rejoining Rome and rebelling against the Tyrannical Greeks (Rome will subtly sow the seeds of dissent among its former territories in the Pyrrhic Empire, there is a 50% chance that the people within the former Roman territories would revolt and join the Romans)

[ ] Develop Crossbows: we can make a new weapon, a portable version of our Manuballista siege engines, that will terrify the Greeks (the Romans would make crossbows off the designs of the Manuballista, and will be deployed in 6 years (260 bc), allowing the ranged forces to be more precise in targeting their enemies, incompatible with Develop a Proper Fleet)

[ ] Develop a Proper Fleet: our current fleet is lacking, we need to develop a proper fleet if we were to achieve true maritime dominance (the Romans, with help from the Carthaginians, would develop a proper navy, allowing them to actually be good in water, incompatible with Develop Crossbows)

[ ] Food Quotas: our army needs to be feed before our citizens, the soldier march on his stomach after all (food quotas would be temporarily raised in order to feed the Roman army, albeit at the expense of its citizenry)

[X] Plan Professional Military
-[X] Professional Training: instead of wasting our time recruiting more untrained conscripts, we could recruit the same amount of conscripts but give them better training, to make more experienced and elite in order to combat the Pyrrhic Empire (the Roman Army would receive better training, increasing the quality of the legions, incompatible with More Conscripts)

Crossbows would be good if our forces are conscripts because they don't need much training. But archers with training are better than crossbowmen.

With a smaller professional army, we don't need as much food and more farmers could stay on their fields so hopefully we don't need food quotas.

Rome have dedicated itself to preparing itself for the Second Pyrrhic War, it has made its own professional army through the training of its own soldiers, as well as fortify its southern border with the Pyrrhic Empire in preparation for a hypothetical invasion, in addition, Rome have started to develop its own fleet, with inspiration from the Carthaginian fleets, in order to prepare itself for a hypothetical naval battle, it also sow dissent among the populace on its former territories, leading to said populace rebelling against the Pyrrhic Empire, in the hopes of rejoining Rome, however, in spite of, or perhaps because of the rebellions, the Pyrrhus went ahead with his goal of conquest, and the Second Pyrrhic War begins…

Military Affairs: the Second Pyrrhic War have now began, now we need to plan to invade Magna Graecia, as well as retake what's ours (select 2 choices)

[ ] Retake Our Former Territories: the rebels we helped create are begging to rejoin Rome, we focus on retaking our rightful territories to us before we could actually invade (the safe option, Rome focus retaking its territories, retaking Arpi, Luceria, Asculum, and Venusia in the process, allowing them more loyal civilian to join the army, and allowing a boast in morale, incompatible with Invade Lucania, or with Divert Troops)

[ ] Invade Lucania: the rebels can wait, we need to first invade Salernum and Paestum (the Romans have a 50% chance of successfully penetrating Lucania and capturing Salernum and Paestum from the Pyrrhic Empire, but if it fails, expect a lot of casualties, incompatible with Retake Our Former Territories, or with Divert Troops)

[ ] Divert Troops: we can divide out troops, one half does to retake our land, while the other takes Salernum (Rome would be both retaking its former land, while invading Salernum, however, taking Salernum will now take 65% chance, due to less troops in the latter, incompatible with Retaking Our Former Territories, or with Invade Lucania)

[ ] Try to Kill Pyrrhus in Battle: in OTL, Pyrrhus died 8 years ago in battle, what if we did the same to him here, we can turn this war to our favour by collapsing his empire (there is 30% chance that Pyrrhus would die during battle, and a 15% chance that the Pyrrhic Empire would collapse into civil war, however, should it fail, Rome would be humiliated and the Pyrrhic Empire would receive a massive morale boost)

[ ] Patrol the Seas: we could use our newly made fleet to patrol the sea, make raids in Pyrrhic territory and intercept invasions (Rome would use its newly made fleet to patrol the seas around them, intercepting invasions or making raids on Pyrrhic territory)

Internal Affairs: our populace needs to be taken into account as well, as the question of our faith and the question of non-Romans continue to linger in our populace (select 2 choices)

[ ] Make Mars God of the Romans: let's make Mars the god of the Romans, after all, he is the father of founder Romulus, and would be a great of differentiating ourselves from our Pyrrhic enemy (by 255 bc, the Mars would become god of the Romans, making him fulfill a similar role to Marduk in Babylonian religion)

[ ] Make More Temples: we need to make more temples, so that our people can make vows to their respective deities for assuring our military victory, boost morale (more temples would built during the duration of the Second Pyrrhic War by the Magistrates, each dedicated to each deity, people would give vows to the deities in assuring the military victory for the Romans)

[ ] Keep Non-Romans out: we can't let those non-Romans be in our society, the last thing we want is let those Greeks try to convert us into a Pyrrhic vassal state (non-Romans would not be allowed as citizens in the Roman Republic, making integration with other cultures difficult, but makes rooting out potential sabotages of the Roman Republic easier, incompatible with Accept Any Blood, or with Propose a Middle Ground)

[ ] Accept Any Blood: not all Non-Romans are bad, Carthage is our ally after all (non-Romans would be allowed inside the Roman Republic, which while by no means ends slavery, makes integration of other cultures easier, at risk of potential sabotages from within, incompatible with Keep Non-Romans Out, or Propose a Middle Ground)

[ ] Propose a Middle Ground: Write-In (incompatible with Keep Non-Romans Out, or with Accept Any Blood)

You forget to get one more choice in the Internal Affairs section

We got 5 choices but 3 of them are mutually exclusive, so 2 of the choices are forced.
My problem is this has a 30% success chance, so we would most likely just boost our enemy's morale. Can we just pick 2 choices from military affairs?

Changed the amount of choices needed to make things less forced, you might need to change your plans accordingly

Turn 4
Turn 4
261 bc
The Second Pyrrhic War have began, and things are going smoothly for the Romans, they managed to retake their former territories, taking back cities such as Arpi, Luceria, Asculum, and Venusia, the reconquest is further aided by Roman Fleets intercepting Pyrrhic ships, preventing more Pyrrhic soldiers from defending against the Romans, on the internal side of things, more temples dedicated to different deities are built for people to pray to, boosting morale significantly, and the Roman Republic starts to accept Non-Romans from friendly nations, such as Non-Roman Italians and Carthaginians to the nation, though Greeks and other peoples are still not allowed.

Military Affairs: we have manage to get all our territories back, we now need to plan our next step in our conquest of Magna Graecia (select 2 choices)

[ ] Go Towards Tarentum: we already made it fairly far into the Apulian Peninsula trying to retake our territories, we should go further and conquer the Pyrrhic capital of Tarentum, and perhaps kill Pyrrhus if we can (there's 40% chance that the Romans would manage to capture Tarentum by the start of Turn 5, and there's 20% chance of an abrupt peace, even if the Romans fails to capture Tarentum by Turn 5, they would still capture massive amount of territory from the Pyrrhic Empire, additionally, there's a 30% chance of killing Pyrrhus during battle, boosting morale for the Romans, while lowering morale for the Greeks, incompatible with Invade Campania, or with Propose a Different Strategy)

[ ] Invade Campania: an army marches on its stomach, if it is to be the case, we should starve the enemy's troops out by destroying their pasture filled lands of Campania (there's a 50% chance that the Romans successfully invades Campania, taking Salernum and Paestum as the result, and starve out the army by destroying the pasture of the land they are invading, if it fails however, expect a lot of casualties, incompatible with Go Towards Tarentum, or with Invade Campania)

[ ] Propose a Different Strategy: Write-In Vote (incompatible with Go Towards Tarentum, or with Invade Campania)

[ ] Expand Our Fleets: we need to expand our fleets if we were to stand a chance in a naval battle, time for maritime supremacy (Rome would expand and improve its fleets in order for it to do well in a hypothetical naval battle against the Pyrrhic Empire, it also helps it be better in raids and intercepting invasions, incompatible with More Aid)

[ ] More Aid: our fleet and army are not enough, we need more aid from Carthage (Carthage would send more fleets and armies to help Rome in the Second Pyrrhic War, incompatible with Expand Our Fleets)

[ ] Develop Crossbows: we can make a new weapon, a portable version of our Manuballista siege engines, that will terrify the Greeks (the Romans would make crossbows off the designs of the Manuballista, and will be deployed in 6 years (255 bc), allowing the ranged forces to be more precise in targeting their enemies)

(Note: the next few posts are going to be mainly based around military and foreign affairs, so expect little from the internal affairs side)
