Pick of the Month in Debates & Discussion
Combat Doctrine and Army Composition for Merfolk by @Muhkat Lomorki

Have you ever watched The Little Mermaid and pondered the film's important themes?

Namely, how would King Triton be able to raise an army? Would it sustain itself in wartime by foraging in enemy fishing grounds? What would a "bronze age" Merfolk society look like, and would they use metal at all?

These are the questions that Sufficient Velocity exists to answer!

January 2025 Picks of the Month New
January is often a month of recharging batteries after the festivities of Christmas, New Year's resolutions, and looking ahead to the year to come. So it gives me great pleasure to see that already 2025 is off to a fine start, with an amazingly imaginative new WH40K quest from @Cetashwayo, and a new novel from from @open_sketch! Not to mention we're still getting our proper quota of "nerd out and argue about RPG settings from the 2000s" provided by the wonderful @DragonCobolt as he reads through one of the more interesting tie-in supplements for a game you may never have heard of before.

Let's have a great 2025, and watch out soon for some fun events coming in February!

User Picks of the Month
Hour of the Wolf by @prometheus110

Fuck it, gonna be dangerously sincere (and largely copy something I wrote on Discord):

Cetash, DC, and Erika all getting Picks of the Month is very well deserved. They're definitely some of the best and more interesting writers on the site and each of them does something unique with regards to subject, tone, and/or theme. I think they demonstrate some of the best that SV has to offer.

Yeah, it was a complete accident in terms of when threads started, but it does feel strangely appropriate to start the year off with a PotM roster full of some of SV's heavy hitters. There are more than a few names I would add to the list if I were assembling SV's "Dream Team" so to speak, but it's a good representation of the forum at its best.

Honestly I've noticed that there have been a bunch of interesting new Quests starting recently, so much so that we might have to seriously consider running two Quests Picks for February. Perhaps it's because it's the New Year effect in play, and authors decide to start new projects around now? Either way it's a good problem to have, so I'm not complaining!
