Well I was supposed to post again for Character Sheet and the like, but I guess I will just edit the OP.
Some GM notes, house keeping things, and other details.
I do in fact accept questions, ask me and I will give you the answer your question deserves.
Stunts are a thing, they can change the TN necessary, provide backstory, or get you killed. Choose wisely.
There will be a post coming soon which talks about the pros and cons of picking individual time periods, as well a summary of what I think of canon pertaining to that set of events. (Hint: Some canon events will be changed to avoid blatant metagaming.) Also included or in a second post will be skill notes, and other details to inform those who know nothing about Rokugan.
I need a map, getting me a not shit map of Rokugan gets you a free raise or XP, your choice.
Special thanks to
@gman391,
@Maugan Ra,
@storybookknight, and most of all
@Winged Knight, for their amazing quests which got me introduced to the L5R RPG.
Legend of the Ronin (Legend of the Five Rings)
In Thunder's Echo (Legend of the Five Rings Quest)
[L5R] Minor Clan Quest
Glory of the Emerald Empire (Legend of the 5 Rings Quest)
Legend of the Five Rings uses the Roll and Keep system, normally represented XkX. There are Target Numbers (TN) which need to be hit for an action to pass. Raises can be called to do extraordinary things. 10's explode. As an example:
Ryoma needs to break three boards with his head in order to prove to his sensei that he is ready to master the Iron Head technique. He has Strength 2 and so gets +2k2 (2 dice rolled, highest 2 kept) as well as his rank in Jiujutsu (wrestling that isn't sumui or sumo) which is +1k0. Breaking three boards isn't normally that impossible though doing so with his head instead of his hands means it will cost him a raise, taking his TN to 25. Ryoma smashes his head into the boards:
Jiujutsu: 3k2: 22 vs TN 25
Ryoma has failed his roll and did not break the three boards. However Ryoma can try to convince his teacher that he is still worthy to try the technique because he almost succeeded. So Ryoma will try a Courtier roll and he has the Rhetoric emphasis meaning he rolls with Awareness 3, getting +3k3, a Courtier skill of 1 so another +1k0, and he spends a Void point to get +1k1. Ryoma explains to his teacher that he really does deserve to learn the Iron Head technique because he tried really hard and almost made it and he is sure that if he had a little more time he could get it down just right:
Courtier (Rhetoric)/Awareness: 5k4: 35 vs ???
Ryoma is successful and manages to convince his teacher that he should learn how to break boulders with his skull.
