"The Warden representative would like to point out that not only have we operated within the letter of the law with our actions but we wish to remind everyone gathered here of their necessity as well. Yes, the Wardens have a large force located within the Anderfels, with the goodwill of the Anders people we might add, but the reason we do so is because of the ever present Darkspawn threat within it. The Anderfels suffer from Darkspawn attacks like no other surface region in Thedas and so the Wardens have and always have had since the Foundation of our order a large presence within it, and the day we leave the Anderfels is the day that the country is overrun.

This conflict isn't born out of a desire by the Wardens to meddle in the affairs of the king, this is born out of the desire of the king to meddle in the affairs of the Wardens, and doing a rather poor job out of it we might add. And yet despite being the aggressor in this conflict, desptie being the weaker party in this conflict, King Augustin is standing here making demands of the Wardens without offering anything in return. We would wish to hear what the king has to offer if we are to reach any form of compromise that will end this conflict, for make no mistake, we are not your vanquished foe for you to demand anything you like of, we are your stronger enemy who comes to parlay out of an act of goodwill, for the people of the Anderfels if not their king."

"All I have any wish to offer is that you act no differently then you do to every other ruler in Thedas. You settle disputes you have no right to, you collect taxes that you have no claim to, and now you raise armies beyond any of the privileges ever granted to the Wardens. If you take my throne any ruler in Thedas can fear the same fate!"

"The Wardens hold no interest for your crown, you can keep it if you so like, but if you countinue to make demands on us without offering anything in return, then we call you out as a fraud, an upjumped tyrant. You have no real interest in these negotiations, or the Anders people, or anything than this war that you so foolishly believe will increase your own power. We are most willing to settle this as a fair treaty, be it either in an equal exchange of concessions or for order to return to the Anderfels as it was before you began this ridiculous attack on us, but you are having none of it. So be it, if we have to win this bloody war of yours to make you realise the utter stupidity of your choices then we will. And mark our words, we are being lenient now because we believe that we can still settle this without bloodshed but the next time we will be far less magnaminous towards you."

"Then you are not merely ambitious usurpers, you are fools. I will not surrender my throne to you, in fact or in name. I have not been idle in Hossberg, it is a fortress. And do not think others haven't noticed what you are doing."
(He takes his leave)

Vestalus turns to a scribe "let the record show that on the first day of negotiations that the Wardens offered to return to their prewar positions on terms that the Anderfel king support and protect his people in their stead, and that the king offered no terms of peace but for the dissolution of the Wardens from their historic role as guardians of the Anderfels and retreated to his hold fast of Hossberg"

Turning to the Archons Arbitrator "hopefully cooler heads prevail on the second day of negotiations!"

To his men "have a watch placed on the King, should he leave the city notify me at once, as then these talks will have truly failed"

Regardless of the goodness of the Wardens' intentions and their "special status" within the Anderfels, the Magisterium sees the Nevarran intervention in this internal conflict as a threat to the peace and stability of the region larger than the civil war itself, as it turns what is essentially a civil war into a wider conflict that, in our eyes, also presents a threat to both the Kingdom of the Anderfels and the Tevinter Imperium itself. The memories of the seizure of Perendale are still clear in our minds.

Back to the matter at hand, however, we feel that although the importance of the Grey Wardens to the well being of Thedas cannot be understated, their recent actions have infringed upon the traditional rights and duties of King Augustin. The Right of Conscription does grants the Wardens the right to recruit who they see fit, but its the understanding of our judicial experts, that by the Auxiliaries do not fit within this framework because they are not proper members of the Grey Wardens. And while King Augustin may have acted rashly in this case, his actions are not entirely unjustified, as the growing influence of the Grey Wardens within the affairs of his Kingdom can not be ignored. Furthermore, by allowing the Grey Wardens to continue as they are in the Anderfels, we will be setting a terrible precedent for the rest of Thedas which might result in the Order losing sight of its original goal.

With that in mind, our proposal is simple: A return to the status quo and the immediate withdraw of the Nevarran troops.

The Wardens would wish to point out that we have always been happy to see the negotiation of a return to the status quo were it to end this pointless conflict.

King Augustin objects to any deal that leaves the Wardens with the privileges they had before the war.

By status quo, we must clarify that we mean disbanding the Auxiliaries...

As for the King's demands, perhaps it would be better if both the Crown and the Wardens were to agree on a proper limit to the extent in which the Order may intervene in the affairs of the Kingdom?

Upon the Stone

The Imperial Highway

The Imperial Highway was one of the most ambitious construction projects ever attempted in the history of Thedas. A massive, continent spanning network of roads that some say were built with magic; they still provide many of the land trade routes used by the human nations of Thedas. House Cousland begins to slowly repair damaged sections that are particuarly important to the transportation of trade from and to its ports. Some progress has been made, and trade is following a little more.

Upon the Wing

There are mounts mightier than horses, more fearsome than a dozen Orlesian Chevaliers. House Cousland has decided to get into the wyvern business, and it needs both skilled trainers and some actual beasts. Whilst any sort of large scale breeding of them is unlikely, Teryn Cousland at least hopes that the scions of House Cousland might ride into battle atop them. More gold is allocated to lure skilled Wyvern trainers.

With the Spear

House Cousland completes it's reorganisation of standing troops into pikemen. Though slightly less infantry are maintained, due to costs, the new standing forces have the hammer of the te heavy cavalry - and the anvil of nearly three thousand pikemen.

Elvish Matters

House Cousland wants to improve the conditions and productivity of the Elves living in their lands. The Teyrn talks to leaders in the city of Highever to determine what could be done.

Internal Events:

- Elissa Cousland, the second child of the Teyrn, has excelled in the relatively light duties given to her; and has started to given tasks of some importance.

1. SECRET

2. With the king both having refused to agree to any kind of peace that do not involve the dismantlement of the Grey Wardens and done nothing to actually assert his dominance by putting down the rebellion he further shows himself as distanced to the people of the Anderfels. Use this in the propaganda against him, where he is presented both as an obstinate war-mongerer and too cowardly to actually ride out against his enemies. An unfitting king for the Anderfels who is now on the backfoot with the Wardens being able to command a larger force, making a Warden victory in the Anderfels not only justified but also inevitable.

3. Use the poor image that the Anders kings have to convince the Royal forces that they encounter to stand down without a fight or even take up arms against the tyrant, as well as persuade the neutral lords to side with the Wardens. We have no interest in prosecuting those who stood against us but merely wish for peace and order to return to the Anderfels, the sooner the better.

4. SECRET
