A slice of show about Epsilon-level X-Men going about their everyday lives.

Private Lee O'Malley

Easygoing Egoist
Location
Gensokyo
The show is exactly what you think it is, a biology teacher goes around interviewing "Monster girls" as part of his thesis. (Actually they're not too monsterous, compared to others. I mean they're more like D-Class X-Men if you think about it. You know the really shitty/subtle ones who's mutation is like, iunno, "Can change their hair color over time.") Unlike Monster Musume is more of a raunchy RomCom, this is more of a relaxing Slice of Life Comedy series which really focuses more on relationships rather than the whole monster aspect.

So far, the show has 3 Episodes and 25 translated Manga chapters. Episodes come out each Saturday.

With that said, discuss!

One thing I would like to emphasize for those curious about the series: When they localized the name as Interviews With Monster Girls, they were serious about the "Girls" part.

So far, if you took the characters and stripped out the personality elements related to their Demi-human nature, you'd have a bunch of normal 15 year old girls (and one normal 24 year old woman). And one 33 year old male teacher.

MonMusu crossover when? ;)

The episodes so far had been good, but I'm concerned that the show might run out of steam after the introductory episodes.

I'm also wondering where does the teacher want to publish his Interviews? He clearly won't get enough material for serious scientific journals.

[SPOILERS=Manga Ending]Actually Interviews with Monstergirls is the name of the book he writes and the events of the story is what's inside. Kinda like The Hobbit if you will.[/SPOILERS]

Dunno about that. He just needs to keep quizzing them for a few years, or chase up more people via ads with monetary rewards.

I'm enjoying how much the girls feel like late-secondary kids, with the issues you'd expect of them. Embarrassment about the topic of sex, not knowing much regarding romance, alienating people 'different' because you're unsure how to handle their difference, fear of people in general (this one's for the Math teacher), etc. The issues Demi face align very well with real-world social issues, and it's nice seeing the contrast in how well they manage despite that; or, sometimes, don't manage.

The Yuki-onna girl's my favourite so far, incidentally. She seems pretty shy, however, and as of ep3 rather sensitive to mean stuff being said about her - makes me wonder if her skittish, standoffish personality is due to her Demi power like the succubus teacher. Makes the world around her cold when she feels strong emotions, perhaps?

EDIT:
Your spoiler tag's still busted, Lee. It need to be spoiler, not spoilers.

[SPOILERS] das the joke mizu. the manga isn't even over yet. :p[/SPOILERS]

Also it's funny how fitting that the biology teacher throws the word "sex" around like it's nothing.

Social awkwardness and introversion thought by people as arrogance. Yeah, I got that. I really got that. Damn, this show is doing really damn great at relatability in spite of how abnormal the premise is.

I posted this in the anime thread but I'll also post it here.

I think the anime messed up on Satou's demi condition. Succubi in the manga affect both men and women. When Satou falls asleep on the train she gives everyone sexy dreams, including a few women who are also on the train.

As for the poll. I would have to say that the best girl is Satou simply because her story is really sad and has some potentially dark implications. It's possible that Succubi can also affect their parents, which would cause all sorts of problems in society. Add in the fact that it's impossible to tell whether or not someone likes you, and you have some massive hurdles to overcome in pretty much any sort of romantic relationship you may try to have as a succubus. It's really sad... :(

It didn't really matter to me, and the anime did implied that the girls have some crush on her as well.

I thought they could have highlighted it a bit more. But other than that so far the anime is pretty great and I've had more or less no problems with it.

EDIT: OMG that muscle grunt when Takahashi flexed had me laughing so hard.

Especially if you see it as more of a contagious disease. Boy that's dark.

Yep.

There's actually an exclusive succubus investigation bureau who's job is to deal with crimes involving succubus. The problem in society is actually that bad. So the manga is already hinting at a darker side to the universe.
Yeah I know I read the mango.

Man so this what Jojo fans felt like during Part 4! *MANGA READER SMUGNESS INTENSIFIES* :p

Question: How many of y'all read the mango already?

Eh the manga is okay, I mean go ahead give it a read it won't take too long but I much prefer the anime.
Uh, it's more I haven't had a chance to read the manga, than I don't want to. Not really surprising, as Hastings closed down, Waldenbooks hasn't been an option for a decade, the nearest Barnes and Noble is an hour away, and don't get me started on the manga selections (or lack thereof) of Walmart, Target, Kmart, and Shopko.

I can think of one solution that might work; I mean, they managed to get their hands on the first two Haruhi hardcovers for me, so manga shouldn't be any harder...

There are...other ways of doing so. If you catch my drift. ;)

(Also sucks to hear that, I still remember Borders shutting down that sucked.)
