In which JarringToaster attempts to Nuzlocke Pokemon Insurgence

Actually, for Insurgence, you don't have to cheat to speed the game up. Just hold down the m key. It's really convenient!

EDIT: Oh, hey! Second page! Awesome!

Oh, hey, I just noticed. Looks like 4/5 of the people who've posted on this thread have Pokémon avatars. Hmmmmm...

EDIT: Darnit, looks like the Baron of Sealand isn't online... @DrZero7114 , could you change your avatar to something Pokémon related when you see this? Then everyone would be Pokémon! :D

Ah this game is wonderful. I've finished it as of the last beta, and I can only say good things about it. I did a Nuzlocke too, though mine was without the first catch rule, and le me tell you, it's painful.

Also, your curiosity will make you regret not choosing Eevee. Of course I also choose Ghostmander, but then again the starter choice was no choice at all for any pokemon fan.

I mean, Dragon/Ghost? The others may as well not exist.

+1 for Eevee. Mildly ridiculous trying to keep it leveled for the first 2/3 though...I often would just put an Exp Share on it and leave it in the back when traveling. Same with Shedinja.

Eevee
Shedinja - w/ Focus Sash
Greninja - Protean
Gardevoir - Trace

The game AI got all kinds of wrecked by this team. I also added in a Spore Breloom near the end, and it wasn't even fair anymore. =/

Part 9: Railroading into a Mine.
Now that finals are over, I can finally update this more.

Last time, I was about to enter the Grotto. Am I gonna get a neat Pokemon?

Nope. It's a Super Potion.

Moving onwards, we make it to Midna Town.

There's actually one more trading opportunity like this in town. The other person offers you an Elekid for any Bug-type Pokemon.

If you didn't get the news flash, there are a lot of new Megas in this game, and all of them haven't been completely implemented yet. Yes, also did read that right, there is a Mega Eevee in this game. If believe Mega Eevee's ability involves it turning into the Eeveelution whose type corresponds with move that you currently use.

Anyway, I decide to explore some more, because there's honestly a lot to explore.

"Mhmm. Sure. You just believe that."

This Unown in this old lady's home has a Psychic Gem.

The lady herself gives you a choice of three stones, in case you want to evolve that Eevee if you chose one at the beginning at the journey. Then again, since you were possibly informed of Mega Eevee, why you would want to do so is the bigger question.

The Kanto War occurred several decades ago. Civil unrest in Kanto was high due to several of Gym Leaders and Elite Four members taking part in criminal activity. Most notably were Agatha, Madeleine and Giovanni. Madeleine was arrested, defeated by a member of Kanto army named Surge, who accepted the offer to replace her position as Gym Leader. Agatha was pardoned, however, her relationships with former friends such as Oak were strained.
We get some information on the setting. Would honestly like to know what Madeleine was like, as she was the 3rd Gym Leader in Kanto before Surge replaced her.

...This is the second town. The game gives you Leftovers in the second town. It probably knows players are going to need it.

Anyways, the bookshelf to the right holds The Kanto Civil War Vol. 2.

Giovanni, the leader of the criminal organization known as Rocket, was never reprimanded until several years later. A child named Red, son of a soldier lost in the war, linked Giovanni to the unknown leader position and defeated him. He was promptly arrested, and a list of connections were discovered. Many changes were made to the Indigo League after that incident, however- aside from the needless death- most people believe the Kanto Civil War was a necessary part of the development of the region.

Don't like backtracking when you don't have Fly? Now you don't have to. As long as it's a town that you've visited before, the Pikataxi will take you there for just 500 Pokedollars. After a certain amount of rides, I believe you get a VIP Pass so that you don't have to pay anymore to use it. Pretty neat and saves on backtracking.

Onward to the Trainer School!

(Didn't he say that he had friends here?)
"Hey... you should participate in the tournament! It'll be a great way to improve our skills!"
"...I'll think about it."

"I'm the teacher here. I'm hoping to raise young boys and girls to become expert battlers and even better citizens!"
"Ah...I heard there was a tournament going on. Is that true?"
"Yes! We were actually about to start a tournament between our students! If you want to join, it would be a great way to practice and improve!"
(Does this lady say everything with such enthusiasm?)
"Unfortunately, one of our students, Nora, seems to have gone missing. We can't start the tournament without her, so I'm afraid you'll have to wait."
"Why is that?"
"She usually ends up winning."

We're not allowed to leave the town, so there's only one place that we can go.

BEHOLD THE BEAST!

Next update will involve going further into the cave and hopefully finding this Nora.

And, precisely twenty-five hours and nine minutes later, the wise ghost decided that the thread was too quiet, and needed some conversation. So he said, "let there be discussion!" And lo...

...and lo, there was discussion.

Pokémon quest? HmmMMmmmm... tempting... do you have any specific recommendations?

On an unrelated note, have you played this game? I ask because I have, and I kinda (really really really) want to talk about it. It's a cool game. Let's talk, let's ta-a-a-alk~

For me, it was basically Shedinja rollin' for dayyyyssss. Focus Sash + Hone Claws + Return + Shadow Sneak + Confuse Ray. Way too risky for a Nuzlocke run though. Eevee and Greninja were for playing type-switching tricks to mess with any other threats. For my first run-through, I used Flygon/Mega-Flygon for similar type-switching fun.

I was a bit disappointed that Zeta Omicron's Ditto evo wasn't included. It's basically an upgraded Smeargle, since it learns Sketch. Yeah, I go for loopy team compositions. :)

Miscellaneous rambling:

The deltas and megas are hit-or-miss; some are decent, while others just don't make much sense. It's still very enjoyable and mind-bending to try using them though. Same with some of the novel moves--I tried out a Galvantula for a while, just for the sake of using speedy Livewire silliness.

Oh yeah, the HM items really really need to be implemented in the main games. No more HM slaves!

I haven't played X & Y yet, so I also had lots of fun trying out Gen 6 Pokemon. The easier acquisition of Hidden Abilities helps too.

And finally, the plot is actually not too bad, plus the battles are often a decent challenge. Which is loads better than most ROM Hacks, not to mention all the little silly bits of dialogue and book titles. :)

*cough*cough*

I heard there was a lovely experimental one by the name of Oaken Measures! :p

(...It's a continuation of my earlier quest attempt, A Land Apart From Time.)

In seriousness though, I think the two ongoing ones are Coshiua's Pokemon: Orange Version and MData's Catching Victory (quest version of Zeta Omicron). Coshiua's is particularly adorable, and consistently updates. It has colorful graphics too!

If you're a fan of Saphroneth's Ashes of the Past, you'll likely enjoy his new Arise: Faithful Servant pokemon quest too. It's over on Spacebattles. :)

Part 10: Where the Fun Begins.
And after getting Phanphy, we continue further into the cave, with hopefully noth—

...Well that just happened. There's a plus side to this though!

Julius evolves into a Nidorino! Hopefully that'll allow us to prevent any further casualties for now!

...In hindsight, having a nearly half health Nidorino expect to take a hit from a STAB + Rivalry boosted Litleo may not have been my best idea. Reminder that this game will punish you if you think that you can get away with stuff like this.

Well, I guess that I need to train my other Pokemon...and stay away from this cave in the meantime.

Ah yes...the Critical against an already frail Zubat. How could I not have expected this?

Those tags I put up are finally fitting to this playthrough.

"...I did not expect this box to fill up with so many corpses this quickly."

Anyways, after grinding up my remaining Ponyta and Phanphy, we finally make it through the cave without any more casualties, and find Nora at the end.

(Celebi? THAT Celebi?!)

(Did she just bring those deceased Pokemon back to life? Or did she bring them from the past into the present?)
"I can't believe it! All of our hard work finally paid off! Armaldo, Bastiodon, Kabutops, and Omastar... Who would have thought that they'd see the light of day again?"

(Wait, what?)

"Yo."

"Just about everything."

"Look. I... I don't know who you are. But you can't tell anyone about this! I'd be in grave danger!
"Mew..."
"...What was that?"

"You were chosen by Mew?"

"Kinda sorta. It just does its own thing."
"I thought I was the only one! But if you were also chosen... then... hm... I should sorta explain."
"Please do."
"Not many people know about it, but a long time ago, there was a prophecy written about Torren."
(Then how and why do you know about it?)
"Nobody knows it word for word, but it talks about the cults and the Augur. It said the trainer, chosen by one of the legendary Pokemon, would be the one to find and defeat the cults."

"You know, like Mew, Victini, and Hoopa."

(Okay...I can sorta see Illusory being fitting for Mew but)
"When they found out, the cults wanted to rid the world of that trainer."
(I thought you said that not many people knew about the prophecy. So how do all the cults and their grandmas know about it?)
"People were terrified. Nobody knew who this hero was, and they feared he or she might never appear. But then the First Augur came, and he protected us."

Thing about this line. The First Augur is explicitly referred to as "he" no matter whether you play as male or female. So, that possibly debunks the "Player is an amnesiac First Augur" theory that I had.

"He was incredible. He took out half the cults on his own, but he disappeared a year ago. People think the prophecy was about him, because he was friends with Hoopa, a legendary Pokemon."
(But since he didn't take out all the cults, he couldn't be the subject of the prophecy. Either that, or he still needs to fulfill his role.)
"But he's gone now. Nobody knows where he is. The Second Augur has taken his place, and I don't think he was chosen by anyone. That's why I can't let anybody know about Celebi. I'm afraid that they'll all come after me. I have to train down here, in secret."
(...She sure does like talking.)

(You think you're the hero of the prophecy, or at least you want to be.)

"There might even be others. You can't let anyone know that Mew chose you. It hasn't joined your team yet has it?"
"Nope."
"That's probably why- it's concerned that if it does, you might become a target. So be careful from now on. We're too valuable to risk."
(The line of thinking with that last sentence concerns me.)
"I better get going. Up in Midna Town, there's a Trainer School I learn from. None of the other students are any challenge for me, but it's still good practice."
(The ego on this girl...)
"There's a tournament about to start soon, so I need to get going. Why don't you enter too? It's a good way to train and learn more about being a trainer. And you and I... we need all the training we can get. I'll see you up there!"
(Oh right...I was supposed to fetch her for the tournament. I suppose I don't need to tell her since she's going there anyways.)

The thing about the end part is that there is two different ways it can turn out depending on if you go to the Trainer School first or not. I used the dialogue that involves going to the cave first. The only difference is that she's surprised about how she forgot about the tournament and rushes back to it.

...Now I have to do the tournament with just a Ponyta and a Phanphy. FUN!

Eh, it's the truth.
If they aren't a challenge, they aren't a challenge.

*Got through the cave with no deaths and no Leftovers*

... You can pick up the fossils?
Yeah. They're what you'd expect them to be: Dome, Helix, Armor, and Claw.

EDIT: Just the ones in that room, though, and you can't revive them until you get your Secret Base. And seriously, JT, now is the time to watch as much TV as you possibly can. You'll know what I mean when you do it. ROTOMROTOMROTOMROTOMROTOMROTOM

Yeah, I know, but still. Just because you're further ahead than it looks like you are doesn't mean you shouldn't experience the wonders of modern day television! :D and all the ROTOMS that entails

More ideas for replacement teammates: Hidden Grottoes will randomize what's in them every day or so, so there may be a Pokémon in that one now. Just an idea you may want to consider. ;)
