In Victory's Shadow - A Barbarian Warlord Quest

X] Plan: Caribou in Shining Armor
-[X] Send out scouts (Batzeck) (1 Warrior)
-[X] Attack Batzeck (Costs 1 Action, 4 Warriors)
-[X] Help to prepare the Solstice Festival (Costs 1 Action)
Question is, do you want to Scout out the place personally, b/c we could delegate that to someone else and use an action to do something else like becoming literate or spending time with one of the Clans with us.

Why shouldn't they attack? We don't know them and without warriors the camp is undefended, and in the end not much different from a village.
Because they don't know us either and if they're smart, they aren't going to make unnecessary enemies in the middle of hostile territory.

Only 1 group of people could have attacked Batzeck. Calaw has both the means and the motivation to do so, but it seems to me like they failed in that attack and suffered losses because Batzeck is still standing, if savaged, and has some of the Calaw's people set to be burned at the stake.

In their position, it would be very unwise to make enemies of the only people in the region who'd be interested in allying with them.

We're delegating the scouting so our 2 actions are dedicated to preparing for the Solstice and then attacking the town.

Mind that Batzeck is actually defended by people who know how to fight. This won't be a walk-over.

It would be funny af if the people being held are just like petty nobles, or even worst just theives or traitors.

The DM has warned us. it is time to dismiss this warning and go ahead with the plan anyway

I am not familiar with how this setting handles the animosity between the the Clans and the southerners, but could it be possible to just show up at Batzeck's doorstep and tell em something along the lines of

"You have some sorcerers of ours, give them to us and there will be no need for bloodshed."

On one hand they might answer with something along the lines of "What the fuck are you talking about, these are southerners" in which case we know that attacking the village is not worth the losses we would take and if they agree we get sorcerers and don't lose people in a difficult fight. If they refuse we can always fight anyway.

My reasoning for asking first is that we know there are other Clansmen in the area and even if we lose we would inflict so much damage that the village would get overrun by others soon enough anyway and we could tell them exactly that.

Again, I don't know if this is illogical given the setting, but if not it might be worth a try to prevent as much loss of troops as possible.

[X] Pleasantries, Patrols, Plots and Pillaging.
-[X] Send an envoy to Calaw (Costs 1 Warriors)
-[X] Spend time with Vuoitveahka and the Rukses Gahpir tribe (Costs 1 Action)
-[X] Spend time with Ealga and the Cappat Sealgi warriors (Costs 1 Action)
-[X] Set patrols. (Near Batzeck, 1)
-[X] Set patrols. (Near Calaw , 1)
-[X] Send a raiding force. (Brempt, 1)
-[X] Send out scouts. (Luchstet towards Grauwitz area, 1)

So why this set of actions? Well
Sakka Jostil Tribe
Led By: You
Warriors: Large
Civilians: Medium
Herd: Large
Loyalty: Absolute
Rukses Gahpir Tribe
Led By: Vuoitveahka
Warriors: Tiny
Civilians: Medium
Herd: Medium
Loyalty: Uncertain
Cappat Sealgi
Led By: Ealga
Warriors: Small
Civilians: Tiny
Herd: Tiny
Loyalty: Uncertain

>>>Loyalty: Uncertain

I don't believe in doing a major dangerous attack as expressed by the QM below whilst those who stand beside us don't even trust us. The Rukses Gahpir tribe doesn't even want more war! Are we going to rush into the maw with those who don't even want to stand there? No I don't think we will.

(Also if we make those dudes loyal they may decide to start working to forward our collective group themselves, aka more action economy even if indirect)
Mind that Batzeck is actually defended by people who know how to fight. This won't be a walk-over.

We can also learn to read at a later date and winter celebration can be done next turn where we haven't lost half our actions via travel. So let's explain the rest of my ideas as well.
>Send an envoy to Calaw (Costs 1 Warriors)

We should meet them, if we've seen them they've likely seen us so we might as well open up a channel and see where it will go.

>Spend time with Vuoitveahka and the Rukses Gahpir tribe (Costs 1 Action)
>Spend time with Ealga and the Cappat Sealgi warriors (Costs 1 Action)

As per above, I want those who work with us to trust us and work towards a common goal, this uncertain loyalty is nonsense to tolerate any period of time. What if they up and leave us in the middle of the night for the nearby clan, spooky business if we can't trust those who travel with us.

>Set patrols. (Near Batzeck, 1)

Keeping an eye on one of the major settlements in the area is not a bad idea, will be a shame if we miss out on wizards or witches but we just can't risk the major attack when we are uncertain of the faith our allies have in our plans.

>Set patrols. (Near Calaw , 1)

Just to keep an eye on the movements of the other clan, to ensure they don't try any funny business

>Send a raiding force. (Brempt, 1)

It is a small village to the south, we can nab some information and resources and keep our stockpiles topped up.

> Send out scouts. (Luchstet towards Grauwitz area, 1)

This is our goal in the long run/mid term, let's see what's going on down there.

Alright cool, hope yous all agree and if not that's fine all of the plans are good stuff.

I don't believe this argument holds much water since they all agreed to go south where there will be more war waiting for us. We're nomadic raiders, everyone here went south with the intent to take things by force just like we did to the villages on our way here. Loyalty is only uncertain because we have no notable achievements to our name, and a successful raid can help put rest to that.

The attack on Baltzar won't be a walk in the park, but with our high prowess and warcraft, the fact that our troops are fresh and fed compared to the enemy who just suffered an attack and are likely starving due to the state of the surrounding villages, and not to mention the losses they must have suffered at the hands of the people in Calaw, this is winnable.

It's a risk, but one we'll have to take if we want to save whoever is about to get burned at the stake.

The people in Batzeck are a force of southerners, not clansmen. Colorful armor is the norm among southerners, while wastelanders rarely have those and prefer to use banners for battlefield identification.

[X] Plan: Caribou in Shining Armor

I'd say winning a good victory together is exactly what we need to bind our allies to us.

Of course, failing so early might cause them to abandon us.

We have to roll the dice, but warfare and prowess are our best dice, so that's okay.

I can see how that could be understood wrong. My bad.

I am aware that the people in Batzeck are southerners. But if we approach them diplomatically and ask for the people they are burning, is it possible they might relent?

Burning people on Pyres is not usually a good indication of common sense or the ability to talk things out. Do we know how zealous these people usually are about killing people they deem heretics?

Incredibly unlikely that you can get a diplomatic solution there. While you don't know much about the southerners, you are aware that they only bother use pyres for people they absolutely want dead.
