Well here is
@Slayer Anderson 's Gift/Apology Omake. Bit short on descriptions, short in general but I think it gets the point across.
The Prodigal Son by Toxinvictory (Gift to Slayer Anderson)
The President of the United States was having coffee when Amanda Waller's representative arrived. Not that General Wade Eiling officially had any connection to Amanda Waller who had been forcibly retired after one to many radical cough Nuke cough suggestions as to how the Amazon/Atlantean conflict might be resolved but unofficially it was accepted that Eiling talked to Waller regularly.
"Sir," Eiling saluted his back straight. The President bit back a sigh, despite cultivating a image of an informal and friendly man people were always saluting him. It brought back memories he would rather forget.
"At ease General, I didn't call you here to talk business. "
"Sir?"
"I find that there can never be enough good will between a ruler and his advisers, you were brought on my predecessor. I'm curious about you so lets talk about the man not the job for today."
"I'm not sure what to -"
"I know for instance that you were vocally against my election. A Hippee, naive showboater were the words used I believe."
"Sir whatever I said
before you are the President
now and I swore to follow orders."
"Oh I know that. Your a smart man Eiling, and a patriot to the bone. You wouldn't have been trusted with Project Firebreak if you weren't. But I think we should open with each other. I am an idealist, not because I think the world cannot be truly ugly but because I have seen exactly how bad things can get."
For a second the President looked haunted as memories of another darker time flashed before his eyes. But the past had no power over him. He had escaped it with the women he loved and found something new and precious here. He continued his speech.
"If Queen Diana and King Orin came to me today and spoke of peace I would welcome them with open arms. Because further conflict will only cost more lives. But just because I want peace doesn't mean that I blind to what we who serve this country may be called to do. My wife described it in a phrase to me Speak softly but carry a big stick."
Eiling eyed the President with interest maybe it was the candor of the meeting or the signs of strength he had seen these past months but the General
believed him.
"I respect your ideals on the concept level atleast sir. My early misgivings were in error. Since assuming office you have done the title proud and I have no objections to serving under your administration. I only wish the time's were better."
"Don't we all General don't we all. I wonder If I could trouble you to join my wife and I at dinner at the Iceberg Lounge tonight? Your son is back in town I here and we would be honored to the hero of Jump City. No press I promise."
"I sure that could be arranged. Thank you for your time Mr Free."
"Please Wade, call me Scott."
