Can the thread give me 17 D10 rolls please? I'll treat them in order of planning so go wild.

How wild?
HousePet threw 7 10-faced dice. Reason: This wild? Total: 42
7 7 7 7 9 9 9 9 1 1 6 6 3 3
HousePet threw 5 10-faced dice. Reason: More! Total: 25
5 5 4 4 5 5 4 4 7 7
HousePet threw 5 10-faced dice. Reason: All the dice! Total: 30
6 6 8 8 5 5 4 4 7 7

Assuming those are applied to teams in order, looks like we got 2 food from hunting, organised some festivities, took inventory, and documented some fauna and flora. Nothing amazing, but got some important stuff out of the way with the festivities and inventory, and we're not gonna starve... this turn. Those dwarves working on the leylines are going to be stuck on-task until they succeed though - fortunately they'll succeed on 6s and up starting next turn.

I'll do the write up later but to give you something to think about:

[X] Plan Exploration and Feasting

-[X] Map the cathedral [2 Young Kobold Teams]
=> { 7, 7 } No progress

-[X] Hunt small game [3 Young Kobold Teams]
=> { 9, 9, 1 } Two successes, completing the project despite one team having a very bad time

-[X] Seek inhabitants [2 Fascinated Kobold Teams]
=> { 6, 3 } No progress

-[X] Organize celebration [1 Young Kobold Team]
=> { 5 } Automatic success

-[X] Check on the forest gardens [2 Fascinated Kobold Teams & 1 Young Kobold Team]
=> { 4, 5, 4 } No progress

-[X] Take inventory [2 Fascinated Kobold Teams]
=> { 7, 6 } One success, completing the project

-[X] Document fauna and flora [1 Obsidian Dwarf Team]
=> { 8 } One success, getting you one biome worth of data

-[X] Explore leylines [2 Obsidian Dwarf Teams]
=> { 5, 4 } No progress

-[X] Wizards: Help with task "Explore leylines"
=> { 7 } One success, which is enough for one insight

I forgot to write the rules for the wizards, but without any specialization, they succeed on 7+ so you'll get something out of the leylines.

So you have one food, a party with it, an inventory of your supplies, data about one of the biomes and some basic insights into the leylines.

Not bad overall!

Hey, I followed this quest but seem to have missed the latest vote. Anyways, hopefully it goes well.

That said...
How does food work? Where do we see what resources we have? Is it just that we need(ed) to complete Take Inventory to know?

Home Sweet Home - Results
-[X] Map the cathedral [2 Young Kobold Teams]
=> { 7, 7 } : No progress

Two of your teams head out to map your surroundings, but they underestimated the complexity of the task. They are unprepared to brave the waters surrounding your arrival point and waste most of their time trying to map paths through the shallows unsuccessfully. Nothing of value is lost in the process but you are back to square one, with only knowledge of your central island location.

No progress.

-[X] Hunt small game [3 Young Kobold Teams]
=> { 9, 9, 1 } : Project completed

Your hunters have more luck than your explorers. The careful decision of focusing on the central hill pays off when they discover the local species of burrowing animals are unused to predators. They're so easy to catch that risks of overhunting are soon raised by the teams involved. Meanwhile, one of your teams tried to catch some of the amphibious fauna but it proved a lot more resistant to your attempts, injuring some.

Gain one food unit.

Hunt small game action replaced with action for sustainable hunting.

Hunt lake predators action unlocked.

-[X] Seek inhabitants [2 Fascinated Kobold Teams]
=> { 6, 3 } No progress

A couple of older kobold teams gather to prepare a trip around the Cathedral to scout for possible inhabitants and make contact with them. The same issues that delayed your explorers also keep them in your camp,so all they've accomplished is preparing their supplies and collecting old stories for locations to check.

No progress.

-[X] Organize celebration [1 Young Kobold Team]
=> { 5 } Automatic success, project completed

With food flowing into your reserves from your hunts and teams opening up their traveling bags for inventory, there's enough supply to throw a little celebration for your settlement. A younger team makes the rounds to collect contributions, before clearing a large space on the central hill. As kobolds finish their own tasks, they congregate back into that area. Feasting, chanting, storytelling and showy displays of magic follow as your tribe revels in their newfound home, teams mingling with each other.

Lose one food unit.

Morale stat unlocked. Morale is currently 70/100. Morale provides bonuses if kept high, and maluses if low. Regular attention maintains it.

Repeatable Founding Celebration action unlocked.

-[X] Check on the forest gardens [2 Fascinated Kobold Teams & 1 Young Kobold Team]
=> { 4, 5, 4 } No progress

Like your exploring teams, the foragers never manage to leave the central hill. Having to figure out paths through the shallows surrounding it occupy most of their time. They're also pulled into the inventory to ensure none of their seedlings end up mixed with the food supplies.

No progress.

-[X] Take inventory [2 Fascinated Kobold Teams]
=> { 7, 6 } Project completed

Now that all your teams are together, their individual supply management is insufficient. Two teams of knowledgeable kobolds get to work asking every team to open their stores and making an unified accounting of your reserves. It takes them the whole cycle, but by its end, they are ready to give the next assembly a full list of what you have at your disposal, and will keep recording that information in the future.

Food stat unlocked. You have 3 food units.

Trade goods stat unlocked. You have 2 trade goods.

Resource stocks will now be in the status screen.

-[X] Document fauna and flora [1 Obsidian Dwarf Team]
=> { 8 } One success

A team of dwarves head with your small game hunters to document the fauna and flora of the central islands and surrounding coast. It appears that the most convenient game in the area is some form of burrowing rodent. If harvested correctly, its fur has potential for trading, and they provide enough meat to be worth hunting. They also have herd behavior, and can be directed by scaring them. Scarcer predatory lizards also hunt the rodents, but can be scared away by an armed hunter easily. Flora on the central island is less interesting, with a few sparse woody mushrooms and a lot of wet mosses around the water drips. The coastline is home to ambush predators who lie under the water and snap up animals who come down to drink. They can be identified and avoided, but your people will need to be aware of them when moving around.

More information will be provided when undertaking actions in the studied biome. New actions to take advantage of the fauna and flora may become available.

-[X] Explore leylines [2 Obsidian Dwarf Teams]
=> { 5, 4 } No progress
-[X] Wizards: Help with task "Explore leylines"
=> { 7 } One success

Stuck at home with your exploring teams slow down the leyline mapping dwarves. They still manage to figure out the central hill is where leylines converge in the Cathedral, a pretty intuitive conclusion. But without more data, they cannot tell you more.

Thankfully, your wizards are much more adept at divining such information without extensive mapping. After immersing themselves in the flows of magic through the area, they have some conclusions to share.

Powerful leyline currents are running through the Cathedral. A Water leyline runs down the top entrance and sinks into the ground where it disperses itself, merging with the rest of the magic, while Earth and Life element leylines converge towards the same place and feed back up. Some Air magic seems trapped in orbit around those powerful lines, and its interaction with them feed crystal growth. It's likely that those converging lines form nodes where they pass in the Cathedral, where they could be tapped in isolation. The central location has enough converging magic to jumble its elements together, but could still be a source of raw power.

More leyline investigation will let you find nodes to tap leylines for magical purposes with the right specialization and knowledge.

AN: well, as usual, this took way too long. I'll update the status screen with your new data then get to work writing the planning for next cycle! Additional rules briefs are up and I reorganized the info dump to be all permanent information, and the status screen to be anything mutable.

oof a lot of no progresses their but at least we have a food supply and know what we are eating.

I don't think the math was especially unkind to you. Projects are pretty hard. You aren't starving, gathered some information and even had enough for the celebrations so this is actually pretty successful!

I think we may need to invent the raft to help get us off the island.

Are Wizard units composed of both Obsidian Dwarves and Kobolds? Does creating a new unit lower the number of Teams we have?

How do you decide which rolls get rerolls from Morale?

You don't necessarily need rafts, there are shallows, but they're more treacherous than you thought so you need to map them by having a successful mission go through. A boat wouldn't hurt though most of the wood is on the other side.

Units are mixed. They generally will cost one team to train, yes.

You'll be able to assign the morale action during planning like a team or an unit.

Failure is common enough I don't think that will be much of an issue figuring out where to put out morale re-rolls.
How do we get more Teams? What happens if we train everyone to be Wizards, societal collapse?

Considering wizards are able to do a bit of everything, wizard society I guess.

You get new teams through projects, there should be options starting next turn.

It's a way to sharply reduce chances of failure on an action you care a lot about. If you succeed anyway, good?

I know, I just wanted to be clear. :p

So, I guess we want to put those rerolls on projects that are important and have a lot of teams on them, preferably ones that have a repeating payout per success or need a lot of successes. Probably a good idea to put one on mapping the Cathedral next turn - we got all the fundamentals done this turn with the festival and taking inventory, but we need to get off this island!

I hate to do this to you, but no, this isn't an update. I've been struggling with getting back into the mindset to produce anything.

But I have an idea to help me find my rhythm again.

I'm going to take questions on various aspects of Kobold (and allies) society and biology to see if it can get me invested again, so feel free to ask about anything you're interested in. Hopefully I can also work on the update in the background, because I'm not ready to give up on this!
