In Service to the Holy Ordos (Dark Heresy)- Into the Underhive!

"Yes," Luna whispers, "Dim the lights, then approach silently." She turns of her own light and slowly begins to sneak forward, "If I'm not back in five minutes, I'm probably dead." She moves forward keeping her footsteps light and sticking to the shadows, the watcher doesn't react, and Luna manages to move in very close without being detected. She blinks with surprise when she comes to a filthy old shanty-town, her eyes darting about, noting its lack of inhabitants, before settling on the lit building.

Luna sees a sprawling shantytown that dozens of people might have lived in at one point- hovels and shacks built from salvage and ringed by improvised walls with gaps for firing slots. There's a watchtower taller than the other buildings. The place is seemingly mostly abandoned, but it's been fortified at one point.

It's somewhere people used to live...but don't anymore. Or do they?

There's a glint of flickering light from one of the buildings near the middle of the compound- the windows are covered but whoever did it did a sloppy job and the cloth seems to keep slipping.

Luna produces her Vox equipment, still keeping as silently as possible, she quickly voxs her group, "Regis, Rud, Hound, can you hear me? There is a town here, one building seems to be inhabited, any thoughts?"

"Hmm." Regis hums thoughtfully, "We could make contact. Come in friendly like, maybe they won't fill us full of holes."

"I'd make sure the inhabitants aren't under any outside influence." Rudolphus said under his breath. "The mutant did mention something to that effect before we immolated him."

Luna gives an annoyed grunt, "I don't do "Friendly-Like", but I will hold of on killing them for now, their windows are boarded up, so I think they must be defending themselves from something...or keeping from being observed." Her eyes detect movement and she mutters, "Also, there is another potential hostile in the watchtower, if you guys approach, be cautious."

"Right, anyone up for testing whether they happen to be friendly or not?" Rudolphus said in a low voice. "Luna, any chance you see any bit of cover one of us could get behind?"

Luna frowns, "Not much, just a shitty old rusty vehicle, doubt that would afford much protection, the watcher on the tower has a rifle, but he seems tired and lazy. These people are definitely on the look-out for something, why don't you guys come up with a white flag or something, I'll sneak around and try to get in position to kill the tower man, if they prove hostile, I'll off him and you guys can easily mop up the rest."

"Seems as good a plan as any," Regis grunts back over the comm. "Now where the frak are we supposed to get something white down here."

Rudolphus sighs. "Gentlemen. First off, we lack a proper pole to make a flag with. I believe it would be more expedient to just bite the bullet and approach them." He cleared his throat. "If nessesary, have one of us approach them separately while the others watch from a distance to guage their response."

"Seems like the worm mustve juggled your brains a bit, psyker. I can tie something to the end of the lasrifle, hold it vertical. Tadah, instant flagpole." Regis shoots a wry grin, "Plus if they're hostile I'll already have a gun in my hand."

"Same result we can get with my shotgun." Hound mutters. He turns to look back at the others. "Issue now is... How will wave that flag?"

Regis grumbles something as he digs around in the nearby refuse, praying for something that's vaguely white. "I'll go if we can, ah here we are." Pulling...something out of the trash around him he quickly affixes it to the end of his lasrifle. "Alright, Hound, you and the rest can come with me or hang back, I don't care much either way. Luna, we're about to make our approach, you in position?"

"Almost, I'll start moving as you approach, give the sniper something else to concentrate on," Luna states.

@Dirtnap

"I don't know about Rudolphus but I'll stay here, Regis." Hound sighs. "You'll need the back up in case they try something funny."

As the Acolytes- some of them, anyway- pick their way towards the walls of the shantytown...the figure in the tower soon sees them and scrambles across the watchtower platform!

The watcher still doesn't seem to have noticed Luna as they reach the other side, then tugs twice on a rope that stretches down until it goes inside through the window. There's clattering, thumping, and muffled voices from inside the occupied building, and Luna can see someone moving again on the other side of the curtain.

At the top of the tower, the watcher's quickly pulled a long barreled rifle out from under a pile of rags and braced it on the railing. They seem to be taking aim at the approaching and very visible Acolytes.

The watcher pauses, mumbling something...hesitating for a moment as she glances down to the building, then back to the approaching Acolytes. The rags wrapped around her face shift, and Luna sees a girl barely out of her teens, her thin face streaked with filth and chemical burns. Despite her youth, she's handling the rifle as proficiently as a trained Guardsman as she carefully lines up a shot.

[What does Luna do?]

Luna gives a soft sigh, a part of her doesn't want to kill the girl, she reminds her a bit of herself. However, she only has to kill her if Rud fails at his diplomacy. Once again, Luna reaches into her knapsack, produces her Crossbow, and loads a bolt; she takes aim at the watcher as she keeps her breath and hands steady.

[Luna takes a full-round action to aim her crossbow at the watcher.]

There's a sharp crack as the girl fires the slug rifle!

Regis feels as much as sees the projectile slam into the dirt at his feet- just centimeters away from his boot.

"Next one's in the head!" the sniper calls out, her voice raspy and hoarse, but carrying clearly enough across the dusty waste that stretches around the shantytown.

"Get outta here! This's our turf!"

Below her, the doorway bursts open, and a second, taller figure limps out, cradling a weapon in its arms...stumbling over to one of the gaps in the wall of metal plates that's now obviously a firing slot. He's much older than the sniper, and under the rags, his wild hair and ragged beard are grey streaked with white where it's not stained by chemicals.

"LOOK, WE AREN'T HERE TO TAKE YOUR TURF OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!" Regis calls out, keeping the white flag high, "JUST WANTED TO ASK A FEW QUESTIONS!" Lowering his voice he eyes Rudolphus out of the corner of his eye.
@jacobplm
"Rud, you're better at this whole talking thing, maybe give it a shot?"

"Yes, eh hem." Rudolphus said. "PERSON IN THE TOWER FIRING AT US. WE ARE NOT LOOKING TO MUSCLE IN ON YOUR TURF. WE ARE NOT LOOKING TO CAUSE HOSTILITIES. WE'RE HERE TO INVESTIGATE THE RECENT GENERATOR FAILURE, ON BEHALF OF THE INQUISITION, AND HOPEFULLY RESTORE IT TO FUNCTIONALITY." He let that sink in a moment. "TO THAT END, IF YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO TALK, AND NOT FIRE AT US, I BELIEVE ALL OF US WOULD BENEFIT FROM RESOLVING THIS PEACEFULLY AND QUICKLY."

There's a long pause as the girl takes this in. Then she scoffs.

"...Yeah, just a 'few questions'...and I'm a nobleman's daughter! You're fumesick if you think we're buying that! We ain't talking to outsiders or whoever you lot are!" the girl yells back. "...Right, pa?"

There's no audible reply at first, but the barrel of a shotgun's abruptly poked through the gap in the outer wall. The limper's made it to the wall.

"You 'eard her." the man calls out, his voice a low growl like an idling transport engine. "Nothing for you lot here, so just keep on-"

@jacobplm

There is a long, long, long silence.

"...Yeah? Yeah, we'll solve it quickly alright if you don't move!" the girl jeers. "Got enough slugs for each of you, nice n' qui-"

"Cyrine!" The man barks, this time sounding worried. "Wait."

"H-huh?"

The man glares through the hole, still pointing his shotgun at the Acolytes as he stares at the group. "Don't know anything. Don't want anything to do with...the 'quisition."

"...What's that?" the girl chips in.

"Cyrine. Not now." The man shakes his head, gripping his shotgun a little tighter. "Can't help you. Don't know anything. Don't have anything worth taking either, it's all gone. They're all gone now. Generator's that way, you keep going. You'll find what you're here for there, sure as sure." His words are faster, and some of his accent- if not the hoarseness of his voice- fading away with his agitation.

"That enough for you?"

"Not enough." Hound appears from behind Regis, eyes locked on the man. "If I may add, it seems like you know what happened there, and I'd like to know what it's about."

@EtchedSteel @Ugolino

"Hound, please." Rudolphus says, before he addresses the man again. "Apologies for my compatriot. He isn't the most....friendly of fellows, but he means well. At any rate, I would like to request we be allowed to rest here before continuing on." His tone was silky, laced with arcane power drawn from the wells of the immaterium. "I can promise reimbursement, say, on the level of twenty throne gelt?"
