In Fine, Solum Est Tibi (A Quest in Rome, During The Fall of the Republic)

[X]Plan Pirate Hunting
-[X]Yes: He is your uncle, he will be a free man.
-[X]Academic: You have 25 scribe slaves, who are well versed in Latin and Greek. You have thousands upon thousands of stories that can be transcribed to text, send out to the highest bidder, and even work for certain… individuals in Rome. Unfortunately, with your myths not fitting Rome's official canon (or the Priest's ideas that keep them in power) you may find yourself into a blasted war with the priests.
-[X]The Legionary's Lifer: Metellus is back in Rome, and once again, stirring up trouble. He is once again petitioning the Senate for promotion to Legate, to be any Legate in the Roman Legion, as long as he gets his promotion. You need to remind him that his patron has been replaced. And he needs to calm down… You'll handle this. DC: 35
-[X]Cassius and Child: Your lady friend and companion have taken to motherhood nicely, but you really need to know who the father of her child is, and if that father may decide that you housing her will be a threat to him. DC: 45
-[X]Father's Last Gift: You know for a blasted fact that there is something more your father has hidden away. Hopefully, it is not just a hope that a daughter can have, to find one last gift. DC: ???
-[X]Kiss the Ring: You will Pay your Respect to Sulla, and perhaps, see how he views you as a woman, an ally, and the daughter of one of his staunchest supporters. DC: 25
-[X]A Legion's Promise: You are going to get Metellus his legion, and perhaps once things are prepared, he can assist you as well. You may not have connections, but you do have one thing. A very convincing smile. DC: ???
-[X]And By the Sea, They Come: The Pirates came and left as quickly came. There are bounties out on ships that sail and are pirates. There are so many things that are broken, but you have a ship, and you know damn well that the money is good. 500 Talents for every captured ship. Reward: You take your ship and sail the Mediterranean, hunting down pirates.

[X] Plan: First Steps
-[X]Yes: He is your uncle, he will be a free man.
-[X]Industrial: You will convert this cursed land into something extraordinary. You will build your villa into a producer of Roman Steel. The problem is, you need lots of money to even try to do this. Money you do not have.
-[X]The Vulcan's Hammer Furia was not at the funeral, which was not very important. |It was a private affair after all. But there were many things that you need to discuss. Like the future of this relationship that you wish to cultivate. DC: 20
DC: 35
-[X]The Plans for Substance: You need to make plans to get your supplies to Roman Market, or beyond. You just need to find a way to do it. DC:35
-[X]Kiss the Ring: You will Pay your Respect to Sulla, and perhaps, see how he views you as a woman, an ally, and the daughter of one of his staunchest supporters. DC: 25
-[X]The Senate: You want to know what the Senate thinks of you, now at this very moment. DC: 30.

I don't think we should go on an Adventure right on the first Turn. Let's get a bit established first.

Okay slightly nervous about posting this since there's an other plan that almost works for me but I do have my own thoughts as well

[]Plan: Western Affairs and Eastern Wars
-[X]Yes: He is your uncle, he will be a free man.
-[X]Academic: You have 25 scribe slaves, who are well versed in Latin and Greek. You have thousands upon thousands of stories that can be transcribed to text, send out to the highest bidder, and even work for certain… individuals in Rome. -[X]Paying Debts: You owe a Talent to your Father's man, who built the Stable, and since it was in your father's will, you were going to do what was needed. Cost 1 Talent DC: 5
DC: 25

-[X]A Legionary's Life: You are going to get into the Legion. You will try and convince Sulla to give you a legion, and set out on the campaign, not only to defeat Rome's enemies but to gain glory, and honor. And so much more. Reward: Begin An Adventure in the East, with the 5th Legion.

Metellus seems a bit risky and I'd rather have a good understand of our situation with Crassus's illegitimate child. And Yes Academic is slightly risk but Industry requires money we don't have and Agriculture will cost us money eventually.

I agree with Alexander. Going on an adventure right from the get go feels a bit rushed.

Better to get our bearings in the city as well as start working on our reputation.

I mean personally going east is the best way to build our reputation. Senate probably has little interest in a woman, same with the people. Sulla is a family friend and probably are best shot at getting some sort of military role.

Would you be willing to change Industrial to Academic? Industrial has merits but it's far more suited to pirate hunting then joining the legion, that route needs money we rather lack. Academic is a good middle of the road option.

Other than that I think your vote is great
The Thing is that I want us doing industry for a couple reasons
1) We would be less vulnerable (admittedly not immune) to random market fluctuations vs Agri. as we can just store (or use) any equipment we make
2) While we will need a lot of money for Ind. I plan to earn a good amount in loot and plunder from the east
3) I really don't want to get into a religious feud with the priests of Rome.

We are a daughter from a man who never held office. Unlike other starting politicians, the senate has no clue how we are going to act.

Plus, it feels kinda entitled to roll up to the city and immediatly ask for a Legion from grandaddy. I would rather spend a couple of turn establishing our competence beforehand.

I mean I don't think we'll get a legion but I do think we're close enough to Sulla that he has to know we're well trained in military matters so we should be able to grab some sort of military position.

You know it occurs to me we have some real true born child of Rome things going on here, blessing of Venus who was the mother of Aeneas, and blessing of Mars the father of all Romans.

One thing to note is our father Choose to not get involved in the senate to raise a family and also lost lots of reputation by marrying a Greek woman from Sicily rather then another patricians daughter.

Which only serves to further my desire to hitch our ride to Sulla as quick as possible (that feels wrong to say I admit) Senate doesn't think highly of our family, the people probably don't as well but Sulla basically views us and our late father as family. The best way in my opinion to build our reputation with our skills is thru him.

Yeah, plus Romans consider anyone not from the city of Rome kind of a foreigner. That's what they called Cicero when they wanted to insult for most of his life.

So we are not from the city, half an actual foreigner and an untested woman. There's no way they are giving us any command so better to not ask and look bad when we get rejected.

Rather, I think it's better to get assigned as a military tribune to begin with. If we get Metellus his promotion we could probably tap him to take us with him.

I mean we're talking about getting our military position through Sulla, who has a considerably different opinion of us then the rest of Rome.

Yeah, but he will retire in 79 and die the following year. And after his death everyone who was involved with him was looked badly.

Better to use Sulla's support to ensure we can enter the army at all and use our own skills to advance further. We are a military genius so we should earn our rank.

@Magoose
Please confirm whether this is correct. Plans should consist of:
1. one option with respect to Ion
2. one option with respect to the Villa
3. five Actions, up to two of which can be Retinue Actions, and any number of which can be Business Actions or Political Actions
4. up to one Adventure

I am most confused with respect to Actions. Is there a floor on Retinue, Business, or Political Actions (that is, must we take at least one of each)? Is there a ceiling on Business or Political Actions other than the general cap of five Actions (that is, could we, for instance, take all five of the available Political Actions and none of the Retinue or Business Actions, regardless of how well-advised that might be)?

Alright, after having gone over our options here's what I think our immediate priorities should be:
- Given that we are essentially an unknown, there's little time for us to curry favor and not incur any debts, meaning that we do not have the luxury of completely and utterly revamping our lands to suit another industry, since that would mean completely reeducating many of our servants and slaves, spurning our suppliers in the process and likely distancing ourselves from Mars, given that he is a god of Agriculture as he is a god of War, likely providing some form of bonus there as well in addition to building our renown with the general populous who offer more stability in the long run should the Senate fall.
- Furia is an old associate of our father's, whom we have a largely beneficial relationship with, to the point I'm rather inclined she's of an honorary aunt situation, and the producer of some the best weapons Rome has to offer, meaning there's likely some bonus to not only to our starting equipment but also to any potential upgrades to our gear from here on out. Point in her favor.
- Regardless of whether or not we choose to be a Legionary, it is easy enough to cultivate and curry favor with someone who is a man of virtue and an excellent choice for a political ally, and in choosing to join a Legion, we are likely to have a strict, but by far the fairest treatment in joining his Legion, in addition to any bonuses to he may provide to our training.
- Our father raised us to be fair, and it is a final wish. By respecting his wishes and choosing to pay it forward, we likely curry favor with the People of Rome.
- Though I greatly desire to start making a profit or begin hunting for our father's final gift, by ignoring this we not only risk an unnecessary drain on our resources but also a potential avenue of attack by our enemies.
- Though we'd likely benefit by throwing our favor in with Sulla, our grandfather in all but name, we also incur the potential for a heavy debt, given we are an unproven nobody in the eyes of everyone, and by choosing to aid Metellus we not only gain a good standing with our future employer but also pay debt unpaid to our father's friend and ally, not accounting for the aforementioned potential bonuses he likely provides as our Legate.

For those reasons, I humbly offer my plan:

[] Plan PQR [Populusque Rōmānus]
- []Yes: He is your uncle, he will be a free man.
- []Agricultural: You will continue your father's work in keeping the place productive, and food-producing. You will be popular with the People, but not make more money, and will be needing to be afraid of tax collectors.
- []The Vulcan's Hammer Furia was not at the funeral, which was not very important. |It was a private affair after all. But there were many things that you need to discuss. Like the future of this relationship that you wish to cultivate. DC: 20
- []The Legionary's Lifer: Metellus is back in Rome, and once again, stirring up trouble. He is once again petitioning the Senate for promotion to Legate, to be any Legate in the Roman Legion, as long as he gets his promotion. You need to remind him that his patron has been replaced. And he needs to calm down… You'll handle this. DC: 35
- []Paying Debts: You owe a Talent to your Father's man, who built the Stable, and since it was in your father's will, you were going to do what was needed. Cost 1 Talent DC: 5
- []Taxes and Tax exemptions, and Write-offs: So you have been looking at the ledgers of the villa, and realized something very important. Your father has been paying far too much to the state in taxes. You need to adjust that accordingly… hopefully without screwing everything up/ DC: 55
- []A Legion's Promise: You are going to get Metellus his legion, and perhaps once things are prepared, he can assist you as well. You may not have connections, but you do have one thing. A very convincing smile. DC: ???
- []A Legionary's Life: You are going to get into the Legion. You will try and convince Sulla to give you a legion, and set out on the campaign, not only to defeat Rome's enemies but to gain glory, and honor. And so much more. Reward: Begin An Adventure in the East, with the 5th Legion.

But we several years and an entire civil war in which we can build our reputation, alliances and power before Sulla dies. And Several people allied with Sulla did quite well after his death, people like Crassus, Pompey and Lucius Licinius Lucullus.

Plus some foreign wars that were fought by men who were going off for fun and profit.

Still, it feels... deeply wrong to ask for a command of an entire legion. I cannot even imagine anyone at the time even asking for such a thing, even during this time.

Asking to be assigned to a Legion is one thing, since we would basically be an officer and those were pretty much chosen by nepotism. But a straight up command feels like too much.

Wouldn't be an option if it was actually too much.

(Not gonna plan til I'm clear on the rules. If it's even necessary, there are some corkers.)

I mean we might be able to moderate our offer once we see how Sulla is doing and I'm sure we'll phrase diplomatically. I honestly expect to be refused but offered some other role in it's place
