The next day came quickly. You put a sign on your front door; a sheet of metal with the words "Aika's Delivery Service" engraved on it. You put up a sign on the noticeboard in the center of town announcing that your smithy/repair shop was temporarily closed due to lack of sales, and you'll instead be delivering mail and packages to various locations in Gensokyo.
It wasn't long after you officially opened that a customer walks into your store. "Welcome to Aika's Delivery Serv-oh, hi Kamishirasawa-sensei!"
The schoolteacher raises an eyebrow. "You graduated a long time ago, Suzuki. I think you can just call me Keine by now." She waves her hand in a dismissive manner. "Anyways, I saw on the noticeboard that you've quit smithing."
"Only because I wasn't getting any business. The farmers would rather just sharpen their own tools instead of getting new ones. And it's temporary, anyways. If there's a high enough demand, I'll reopen my forge. Until then, I'm a delivery-woman."
Keine nods, and reaches up to adjust her pagoda-hat. "Which is why I'm here today." She reaches into a pocket on her blue dress and pulls out a small box wrapped in brown paper and an envelope. "If possible, I'd like for these to be delivered by the end of the week to a friend of mine. Her name is Mokou."
You nod in understanding. "Right, your immortal friend."
"Yes. She's been in one of her moods lately and won't visit me, and I'm just too busy to go and see her any time soon. So, here I am."
You gingerly take the package and letter from your old teacher. You discuss payment and reach a nice compromise. "Thank you very much, Kam-I mean, Kiene."
Kiene smiles. "I should be the one thanking you. No one else is willing to go into the Bamboo Forest of the Lost."
The what.
"Well, goodbye for now Suzuki. I hope your business does well."
...You may be in over your head a bit.
--
A couple hours later, another customer walks in. "Welcome to Aika's Delivery Serv-Oh, Hieda-san, welcome!"
Indeed, the current Child of Miare is telling one of her servants to wait outside as she conducts her business. Not too long after, the purple-haired girl walks up to your counter. "Hello, Aika-san. I hear you've started a delivery service."
You grin. "Yes indeed! So, what do you need delivered?"
She shakes her head. "I do not need a delivery, but I do need someone to go and pick up a package from the Moriya Shrine. The timeframe for the pickup is very lenient, so you don't need to do it immediately."
You blink. "Does...do couries do pick-ups?"
She shrugs. "I'll pay extra if you do it."
"Sold!"
--
The bell above your door rings one last time for the day, and a young girl with bells in her light-brown hair walks in, carrying a book-shaped package. "Hello, and welcome to Aika's Delivery Service! We deliver to all parts of Gensokyo for a reasonable fee! How may I help you?"
The girl seems taken aback by your enthusiastic greeting. Maybe you should tone it down a bit...
"Umm...Hello! I'm Motoori, I help run the Suzunaan book store. All of my usual couriers are busy this week, so I was hoping you could deliver a book for me."
You smile. "Sure! Where to?"
"The Scarlet Devil Mansion."
...
Oh.
"...If it helps, I can promise you that the residents there won't kill you."
With a great force of willpower, you accept the package and payment and assure her it will be delivered by the week's end.
"Great! Thank you so much!" The girl practically skips out of the room.
...What have you gotten yourself into?
