Humankind: A challenger to Civilization

Honestly the idea of using contemporary states other than maybe China for this sort of history spanning game has always been kind of weird. Playing the United States from the neolithic era on to the near future is just goofy, but I don't know if only having a half dozen misc. cultures per era that you just adopt like new hats really helps the issue either. I guess I'll have to see how it actually gets implemented.

I don't think it's weird, using contemporary cultures is a natural extension of the "adopt a culture" game mechanic. What would be strange would be having cultures from all parts of history but not the modern-day. As for the mechanic itself, I think it's a natural innovation. As you acknowledge the Civ style of starting as a culture and playing it for thousands of years is silly, thus it makes perfect sense that Humankind would try something different.

Built an megacity by Victor opendev endgame using the power of money. Could optimize a bit by combining cities so that I don't have to duplicate infrastructure once I maxed out on districts.

On one hand I do see Akuz's point about overrepresentation about colonialist white settler states.

On the other hand, man do they not have any chill describing western nations. You think it's all going to be Malls and Sydney Opera houses? Nope! It's the CIA and Strip Mining!

The French are unapologetic about this, this is what build civilizations today contrary to popular belief.

And Australia deserve it's title of Strip Mining when it makes up of the largest producer of coal

I guess it's only harsh as a joke about them keeping to burn down Amazon rainforest for farms, or something.

Well they are competing with Aussies and Canucks as an agricultural exporter as of late. Shifting from importing food to exporting it

Brazil Agtech Market Map: 338 Startups Innovating in Agricultural Powerhouse

Over the past few decades, Brazil has gone from a net importer of food to an agriculture powerhouse, providing a great backdrop for the development of an agtech startup ecosystem, writes Francisco Jardim from SP Ventures.

The Brazilians are happy for once someone looked at Brazil beyond just pop culture countries and more on what other achievements they have.

The People's Congress getting featured as a district is interesting because there's a fair amount of research that argues convincingly that it's actually an important information-gathering and preference-gathering system in Chinese governance.

Amplitude is doing their homework on modern civs, i actually learned some facts from the Brazilian locals on how the national stereotype about football and carnival was an image that the the post first republic regime fostered to change their image from an agricultural colonel to a more cultural one.

When I was talking to @Cetashwayo about this game we both liked how they were doing interesting things with the modern cultures - using lesser represented regional players, or having unusual takes on the big powers.

Aesthete Egypt seems like it's a bit of both.

Now I'm hoping to find out that Amplitude has France as the modern militarist culture or something, since it would accomplish both tasks at the same time.

Having a history long enough you can have two culture entries in a civ-like game is a chad move.

Nice. I'm still hoping for USR but it seems they might not get in on account of currently surviving modern states.

Still withholding my expectations.

Fully prepared for them to do something to fuck the game, considering how they fucked up with the Awakening DLC for ES2.
