[X] Stick to normal prisoner routines - name, rank, serial number, hope that...they're...in an interrogating mood (diff 1 charm check)

They'll start asking questions soon enough, better a captured soldier found in a brig than a captured princess. Especially right off the bat.

[X] When they try to arrest you, fight back using the close quarters and their friends bodies to stop them from just shooting you, then go to ground in the frigate until you can figure out what the hell is going on.

(Bonus points if you can get your stuff in the process, but just getting free seems like a good start.)

My logic here is that, whatever else Ajora thinks, most people who board a Taiidani frigate are some form of bad news, getting captured by them is bad, and if they just boarded the frigate there's maybe a window where they're too busy with other stuff to overwhelm her; if there's a chance she can talk through this it will be easier to talk things through if they don't have her strapped to an interrogation chair, if she's really lucky maybe there's a ship she can steal and GTFO.

Also, it's more fun if we have some direct conflict with our characters before we switch sides, and also I want to do Die Hard But On A Taiidani Frigate.

ENTRAPTA SOMTAAW!!! How fitting! They are the Kiith that is most ready to cluge together tech.

Normally I'd vote the other way, but I kinda want to see Dragon's take on how the Kushan are handling prisoners. Also, we'll save some of our Heat for doing brave and dangerous things to earn trust.

Counterpoint if it was die hard on a frigate we would have to be playing entrapta oh she of
of vent mastery

I mean the point is we're definitely going to lose the game of hide and seek, but it's a better story, I think, if there's some chance for antagonism here.

[X] Warn them about the atmospheric deprivation bombs. There might still be time.

Ajora has no idea that she's been asleep for like, hours. As far as she knows, she dozed of for a few minutes.

What's funny is the first vote's going to lead directly to the second.

Man, one problem with quest formatting is that like, if this was a novel, the chapter break would be...like...1-2 paragraphs into this update, then a chapter break, then the next chapter starts.

So I'm just going to do that, lol. Deal with it.

CHAPTER ONE: Insubordination (0.7)
Ajora kept her hands up, but her mouth immediately blurted out: "Wait!"

The strangers...the Kushan, she supposed...did hesitate - even if the dyed girl drew a short, sharp knife from her belt, glaring with a ferocity that made Ajora acutely aware of her aorta. Her throat worked and she stammered. "T-The fleet, they have weapons, terrible weapons. They're called atmosphere deprivation devices, they're planning to use them-"

"We know." The voice grated out of the dyed girl. Her tears glinted and she shook her head, forcing the tears back through sheer force of will. Ajora felt as if she had been punched in the stomach. She stepped backwards and sagged against the wall as the picture unfolded in her mind.

She closed her eyes.

"What are you doing in here?" the boy asked, softly.

"This is where they put...where they put soldiers that refuse to follow illegal orders." Ajora said, her voice desolate. "All the good it did."

The two standing Kushan exchanged glances. The one with the welding mask slid it down to cover her face and started to pointedly examine the console that she had been hacking apart before they had resorted to the plasma cutter, remaining crouched on her knees. In that silence, a communication passed between the two standing Kushan that reminded Ajora of...

Kaja.

She forced the thought of her friend out of her mind. She had to be here. Right now. Not curling up on the floor in terror, or in horror. The dyed Kusha, though, was the one who broke the silence before Ajora figured out anything sensible or useful to say. She sighed, then forced her knife back into her sheath. "Come on," she said. "Fleet Intelligence is going to want to talk to you. Taiidani." She narrowed her eyes.

Ajora nodded, then put her wrists together. "M-My name's Ajora," she said.

The Kushan girl paused. But the boy, who stepped forward to fix braces around her wrist, nodded. "Bow," he said, nodding to her. "It's a nickname."

The dyed girl didn't offer her name. They both escorted her away, Bow's hand on her arm, while the last Kushan focused on her work. It was a way to distract herself, Ajora was sure.

They headed for the airlock.

CHAPTER END

CHAPTER TWO: Integration (0.1)
The room was lit by a bright, harsh light. Ajora's hands were free, but she didn't really think it mattered much - the walls were thick steel, and from the length of the elevator ride, she had been in a preposterously huge starship. Not moon sized, she was pretty sure. She had time to think about the readings and what they had meant - it was better than thinking about what was going to come through the door, now that Bow and his friend had left her here.

Hyperspace drives were solid state systems. You fed powers into them, then quantum waveform effects happened. People knew how to build them...but...Ajora had heard whispered rumors that not many people actually knew the exact math behind how they worked. They were a black box technology for the vast majority of the galaxy - so seeing the kind of hyperspace signature that the Emperor's Finest had detected was...shocking for more reasons than just the scale.

You couldn't just build a hyperdrive bigger to get a bigger waveform. The utter upper limit of ship transits was in how finely controlled your power relay systems were. The biggest ships - save for the Bentusi, who did whatever the hell they wanted according to the rumors - managed their waveforms by building multiple hyperdrives in their hull, then timing it very precisely as to when they both hit jump saturation.

Ajora frowned and drummed her fingers on the dull metal table in the interrogation chamber. She wasn't a tech, so...she wasn't sure if it was even possible to build that many hyperdrives, let alone synch them properly. She remembered Emperor Jonsu's ill fated super-dreadnaught, ending up in six pieces scattered across the Far Rim after a single badly timed jump array...

The door hissed open and Ajora's head jerked up. The woman standing in the door was beautiful, severe, and somewhere in her middle age - between thirty, forty and fifty. It was hard to tell. She had long black hair, tied back into a tight bun, and wore a simple uniform - blue, with an arm patch identical to the woman who had had the plasma cutter. That made Ajora just a bit nervous, until the woman introduced herself: "Emilia Somtaaw, Fleet Intelligence Officer."

Her voice was husky and commanding. Ajora sat up a bit. "L-Lieutenant Ajora."

"Any surname?" the woman asked, walking into the room, stepping forward. "Family association? Kiith?"

Kiith... Ajora wracked her brain. It was an impossibly ancient signifier. Something like...extended family or tribe, right? She shook her head.

The woman looked down at her wrist computer. "Hurm."

She sat down across from Ajora, then laid her hands out on the table. She regarded Ajora. Ajora regarded her back.

"Your ship had no record of anyone named Ajora being aboard. Neither in the crew roster nor the prison files," Emilia Somtaaw said, her voice calm, her eyes measuring. "When did you come aboard the frigate?"

Ajora's throat worked. "I, uh..." She sighed. "Uh...I'm not sure. They took my chron and my wrist comp. Did you, um...did you find any of my things?"

"There were several articles of possession within the brig areas," Emilia said. "They're being processed, the wrist computers are being examined. I don't suppose you want to tell us your password?" She asked, arching an eyebrow.

Ajora hesitated - but that hesitation was enough.

"Give me an approximate arrival on the frigate, and we'll see about returning them to you." Her voice had a bleak kind of humor to it.

"Will I be alive when I get them?" Ajora blurted out.

"That depends on when you arrived on the frigate and how you ended up in the brig, Lieutenant Ajora," Emilia said, and for a moment, a flash of pure anger flared in her eyes. She breathed in through her nose, then let out a slow sigh, getting herself under control. She unstrapped her wrist comp, laid it down on the counter, then tapped it on - a holographic indicator blipped on, indicating it was recording the scene. "Now. Let us begin."

---
An intrigue has begun! Intrigues are a core mechanic of the HEAT system - they basically are ways to break down complex scenes to allow for more interesting gameplay and, more important, bigger player interaction with the fiction. When an intrigue begins, the PLAYERS set the goal - not the GM!

So!

Which goal do you have for this interrogation? The complication is a general guideline on how hard it is (it creates the "base difficulty" of any actions - but it also produces more XP if you succeed! The risk is what happens if you fail!

[ ] Convince her that you're innocent and should be let free (Complication 2 | Risk: you are executed)
[ ] Convince her that you want to help her people - the bastards that did this have to be stopped. (Complication 3 | Risk: you are executed)
[ ] Convince her that you're Princess Eytapea and that you're too precious to be executed. (Complication 1 | Risk: You are executed)
[ ] Write In (Complication X | Risk: You are executed)

[X] Convince her that you want to help her people - the bastards that did this have to be stopped. (Complication 3 | Risk: you are executed)

Take the red! Ajora Soban, a princess no longer.

Ok um... Why not give them the password? Do we really expect to keep the whole princess thing secret?
