(Background chanting TAKE THE RED gets louder)"

Expanding on this part of my thought:
- Taking the Red does prevent marriage, but there are other ways it can be used.
- Soban form whatever relationships they want so partnerships of a less formal nature might exist (the polycule grows).
- Taking the Red could also be a way to squirrel out of a marriage if Ajora doesn't want it. "Oh, sorry, can't do that anymore, but I now have a kiith and can make other commitments."

Also, not gonna lie, not understanding the whole Take The Red thing. Homeworld is great and all but I don't follow it close enough to get the reference.

So I am less here for the Red and more because DC's crossovers are awesome, and She-Ra can be a Gatcha game in story format >.>

Given the Turanics' role in the burning of Kharak - however indirect - I don't think either the Hire or Mary options are very attractive, which leaves...

[X] suggest ransoming them back (they are family.)

The best thing the Kushan have to bargain with (other than RU) is future status (land rights on Hiigara) and all the various ways you would treat with another kiith alliances / friendships / trade / protection.
The big problem with that hiring them is that we can't trust them.

Currently, they are being paid by the Taidan empire to blow us up. If they keep to their contracts, they will refuse being bought by us. I
And if they are willing to break their contract for our payment, then we can't trust them to sell us out for even more money (and you know, the Emperor wants us blown up as his pet project, so the price is high).

Auxiliary forces - they harassed the mothership at the exterior, did scouting, but weren't in the main attack.

They also blew up a bunch of scientists.

Also, not gonna lie, not understanding the whole Take The Red thing. Homeworld is great and all but I don't follow it close enough to get the reference.

It's the classic trope you encounter in more stories. I don't know if it has a name, but it shows up quite some times.
A person, for reasons of their own, but often related to tragedy, renounces all their former personal connections to join a quasi military organisation.

In case of "Taking The Red", Kiith Soban are mercenaries who require that those who wish to join them renounce their former kiith, and if you want to raise children or marry you have to leave.
They themselves only do war, though they are very exact with their contracts.

Basically, it's joining the Space Foreign legion.

For SOME WEIRD REASON, I feel like the genocide survivors might not be all that keen on taking into the fold a former enemy, even if said enemy's involvement in the aforementioned genocide was limited to "Sometimes does mercenary work for the guy who ordered the genocide but didn't actually pull the trigger themselves because that was left to someone else who was way more loyal". Maybe in a little while, when the smoldering remnants of Kharak aren't RIGHT over there?

[X] Plan "A Big Promise, A Bigger Harem"
-[X] suggest allying them by offering a place for them in the aftermath of all of this, for the Turani and the Kushan are closer to kin than enemies.
-[X] secure the alliance through a political marriage or adoption of the Turani nobility
-[X] Ajora's status as an imperial princess slips out from the Turani from the talks as they insist she is the one the Kushan must offer
[X] suggest a political marriage or adoption to get their extended family into your side (they're nobility!)

Okay, lets do this!

CHAPTER THREE: The Great Wastelands (1.0)
"...ransom," Ajora says, firmly. "They're mercs. Pirates. Auxilaries. They don't fight to the death unless they have too - they broke and ran when they were getting too bloodied. These people?" She pointed at the frigate that hung in space. "They'll surrender if you tell them they'll be spared and ransomed back to their Entant."

The Sobani commander frowned. His hand slid along his jaw, slowly, stroking it. He watched the squads, then nodded, slowly. "All right. Lets at least try it. It's not like we're getting the ambush advantage." He turned his gaze to the woman, who tapped a few buttons on her controller. She slid her finger to her microphone, speaking into it.

"Turanic Ship, this is tactical operations of Kiith Soban. We are willing to accept your surrender, and then ransom back to your Entant. You will not be harmed or pillaged, under the SA-KATIR Conventions. A copy of those conventions are being scanned into your ship, utilizing your lexinomics. You have five minuets to respond." She flicked it up.

Ajora glanced at Bow and Glimtara. "S...Sakatir?" she asked.

"Saju-Ka and Tiir were two large cities on...on Kharak," Glimtara said, quietly. "Saju-Ka was where the war against the Gaalsien started. They destroyed the windtraps and sand baffles that kept the deserts from swallowing it whole. The first strike from the Gaalsien blew half the Coalition bases...but they also hit Saju-Ka's walls. By the time NCAF came into the area to try and fix it up, the whole valley was under several feet of dust. The Gaalsien claimed it was to destroy logistic bases, the Coalition claimed it was a terror attack..." she shook her head. "After the war, the interkiith courts signed the Saju-Ka slash Tiir Conventions. Or...SA-KATIR. They cover treatment of prisoners in technologically advanced conflicts."

"Is there a difference?" Ajora asked.

"In the old days, we fought with muskets and swords. A lot easier to take prisoners," Glimtara said, grinning slightly.

"We do still use swords sometimes," Bow murmured.

"So, SA-KATIR covers what to do if, say, you've got close air support and their LAVs are sprinting in open cover. So we don't...there were a lot of...not quite-"

"They were massacres," Bow said, his voice soft. "Retreats are where most people die in fights, be it with rocks or rockets. But when you've got war planes and railguns and you're fighting in the Equatorial Deserts, the slaughter was just...intense." He shook his head. "So, the SAKATIR conventions provide guidelines for electronic surrender, disarming combat vehicles, ensuring the treatment of prisoners during a cross-desert trip, that kind of thing."

Ajora nodded.

"...course, we...uh...didn't have a war for a century since then, so..." Bow said, shrugging a bit.

"We're getting a signal," the com-tech said.

Her boss nodded.

Ajora waited on pins and needles, her fingers tightening into fists.

"...so, when you say we'll be given visitation rights, does that include meeting between us in the cell?" a gruff, female voice said. "I won't be stuck in a cell two blocks away from my wife without getting to see her for months."

Ajora breathed out a sigh of relief. The commander looked faintly put out - but she said, quickly: "If they accepted without dickering, that'd mean they were planning to pull something fast." She paused. "Oh, and if the Turani answer any question without provocation or deferring or being as vague as possible, they're also planning something. That's the two things about them. They like to bargain, and they like to...not lie...but...keep secrets. Especially about themselves."

The Sobani man made a soft hurm noise. His lips were thin. For a moment, Ajora thought he was going to explode at her. Or at them. She'd seen enough Taii officers who...did not treat the cultural differences between them and their closest auxiliaries as anything but an excuse to curse the Turani people out. Then he chuckled. "And you say they mostly live in space? That basically tracks." He turned to the screen, tapping his com-tech. "Put them on."

Ajora almost collapsed as Bow gave a little 'yes' and pumped his fist, while Glimtara put her hand on her shoulder.

Glimtara leaned in, whispering. "Good job."

Pause.

"...you really need a shower, by the way."

"Yeah, come on," Bow said. "The marines have this for now."

Ajora nodded.

Then her brain sized up like a pebble had been tossed into a poorly balanced turbine. She remembered the locker rooms. The locker rooms. The Kushan were, it seemed, completely without any sense of body shyness. Worse, they also had never even heard of private showers. A tiny part of her brain was already muttering about how of course they didn't, they're desert dwellers, you absurd spoiled princess even as the rest of her brain desperately, desperately wished for the protective walls of custom and privacy that were due her as a princess. Not because she didn't want to spend time with her wingmates. More, because she was absolutely mortified.

"Come on," Bow said, and he and Glimatara turned. Ajora started to follow after, gulping slightly.

Yes.

I say this every time I run a HEAT quests, but this is because it's my favorite part of the system: I love the "fail to reset heat" mechanic so much.

Shower Hyjinx!

@RvengefuLobster don't forget the little x.

So what happens if we choose to fail resetting the heat? Because HyjinxTM (love that name) sounds like FUN, and I'm conflicted on which would be MORE fun.

So, the way it works is failing means you just fail. People can tell you're trying to hide your emotions - they can see right through you.

Succeeding with overheating means that you SUCCESSFULLY hide your emotions, but then end up in an even more mortifying situation! Like, say, Glimtara thinks you're so at ease she asks you to scrub her back and you become a lesbian disaster.

Damn you, Cobolt, you genius! Now you've made the decision even harder! Do we have a touching scene where Ajora bonds with her new friends with honesty-

Or do we do Gay Things and be an adorable little Disaster Gay!?

Edit: Oh who am I kidding, Disaster Gay All The Way!!!

Let's go with embarrassment itself being the right pacing for hijinks for now.

Kosh.Yes

This is the hardest choice I think I have made in this quest. Because to me, the question boils down to do we want Bow and Glimtara to notice Ajora's embarrassment right away as Ajora is oblivious to everyone, or do we want Bow and Glimtara to push Ajora further away from what was her comfort zone while everyone is oblivious to each other?

I reserve the right to change my mind later, if this turns into a tie I will flip my vote.
