Glimtara is the spicy answer given her current feelings about Ajora. But, Entrapta seems like a fun divergence from how early she-ra starts and I like the touch of Emilia bunking Ajora with a Somtaaw. That feels right.

You know, just saying, in terms of pacing, it would be perfect opportunity to cut to Kaja after establishing roommates...

[X] Perfuma (likewise)

Gonna also throw in a dark horse vote for Perfume cus I don't know her well and I'm sure her Kushan adaptation will be interesting.

[X] Mermista

Because I know a chaos pressure point when I see one, so I throw it into the ring.

[X] Entrapta (I haven't come up with a good Kushan name for her yet, ahh)

Both because Entrapta is fun, and because this gives DC an excuse to have Entraptadak early.

I feel like we always forget that Kharak isn't 100% desert. This isn't Star Wars! Kharak is only 95% desert, there's a difference, we swear!

Anywho:
[X] Mermista Paktu-sa.

So do we still have our fighter? And if so could we mount one of the mass drivers the Kushani use on the nose since it still has a a slot left.

Edit: or we can use that slot for more fuel since our ship is a fuel guzzler.

CHAPTER TWO: Integration (0.5)
The door that Emilia left Ajora at was marked with a symbol similar to the one on her suit's back. Ajora wondered what it meant, even as she tried the thumb pad. It flared green and the door hissed in. She saw no sign of another living soul - save for the detritus of another person, scattered around the interior. Her eyes narrowed as she saw that whoever had claimed the top bunk in the narrow room had a pretty poor idea when it came to keeping her room tidy and neat. The blankets were rumpled and cast aside, small tools were left here and there, rather than being scooped up and neatly organized. The ship they were on had to be titanic for the spalling discipline to be so lax - bigger ships meant slower acceleration curves, meant less sudden jolts.

Still.

There was more here than detritus. There was also a small shrine in the corner of the room. It had curved cup that looked made to hold a fire - which explained why the shrine was situated right underneath a vent that would suck the smoke away safely. The shrine had a small icon of a stylized figure holding a sword before themselves, head cast forward. Beside the figure were two engraved flames, and the whole thing smelled faintly of wood and rich incense.

"Huh," Ajora said. She stepped to her bed, slid into the one that hadn't been claimed. Her head rested back against the pillow and she tried to feel anything other than completely exhausted. She couldn't be happy, not here, not right now. She closed her eyes.

She jerked them back open with a groggy and muffled zuhmph when she heard the door open. "Note: Fabrication Unit D-98 is, in fact, 2% less regular when it comes to printing with the heavy metals and alloys - but interesting, not with lighter materials like composites and alutypes. This leads one to imagine that the nozzle is misaligned with- AHHH!"

Ajora tensed, but the girl who had entered the chamber hadn't noticed her. She had actually stopped and her face shone with excitement. She was...

"You're the girl!" Ajora exclaimed, pointing at the girl who had literally cut her out of her prison cell on the Telkar. The girl had been wearing a face concealing welding mask at the time - but it was the same mask she had pushed back over her short, frizzy hair. She had a long face, bright eyes, and looked about the same age as Ajora, maybe a few months older. She was also looking as if she had just discovered the next best thing to solid state computer systems.

"-no, it couldn't be misalignment, it would be with all the elements, it has to be something in the feed!" She squealed, then turned off her wrist com. "What were you saying?"

"You're the girl who cut open the Telkar's brig!" Ajora said.

"Oh, yeah. Hey! Do I know you from somewhere?" the girl asked, cocking her head.

"Ajora?" Ajora asked.

"Oh right, the Taiidani," the girl said, holding her hand out. "The names Trajtaa."

Ajora took it and then Trajtaa stood there for a long time, then hesitantly shook. When Ajora didn't seem offended, she beamed somewhere over Ajora's shoulder. "I did the hand shake, excellent," she said, then turned and started to unzip her jumpsuit. "So, is my room a brig now?"

Ajora shook her head slowly, then laid on her back, cheeks heating. The last thing she needed to do was watch some Kushan girl strip. "No, they let me out."

"Ah, great. Do you mind answering a few questions about being an alien?" Trajtaa asked, cheerfully.

Ajora nodded. "Uh. Sure. A few."

Ajora started as Trajtaa - who had slung on a plain white off duty shirt - sprang onto the lip of her bed, holding up her wrist comp, the recording light clearly on. "Okay!" she said. "Lets start with the orbital parameters of your homeworld, and the gravitational levels, as compared to Kharak!"

Ajora gulped.

Maybe she should have specified a few a bit more explicitly.

***
Kaja stalked through the headquarters of Imperial Fleet Command and tried to act like she didn't notice the glances painted on her back. She walked with her head held up high, her back straight, and her eyes fixed forward. She knew she could have avoided some of the insults and whispering from the rest of the officers if she had just worn some contact lenses. If she had just begged some money from...from the Princess and gotten some corrective surgery.

Yeah, then what? she thought. Maybe get my skin lightened, and bleach my hair, and call myself something with more syllables in it. Yeah. Then they'll say the same thing, but behind your back...

She knew what they were whispering. Mutant. Prole. Ashlander. Scrapevent. She'd heard them all before. Though...not as often with the Princess around.

Kaja refused to think the name. She knew the only thing that would happen would be the dull ache coming back.

"And promise...you'll pull for me, once they make you a wing commander," Kaja said, sitting up.

"I will!" Ajora said, making the old sign over her chest. "Promise."

"And promise you'll give me a cool callsign. Like Wildcat! Or Death Blood!"

Kaja came to the briefing room, which hissed open. She came to attention, her flight uniform as sharp as she could make it. No creases. Not with the Princess gone. Her lieutenant pips glittered on her collar, and she had made sure to fix her silver wings to the next space down. What was the point of winning the wings during the Hell Flight if you didn't show them off.

The Princess would have gotten gold, came whispering from the silvery steel of the floor, reaching her ears before she even processed the rest of the room. Her own voice. Her own innermost thoughts. Her own shadow Kaja.

She focused on the officer she had expected to see - the head of mission command on the IFC - and then blinked as she realized that standing behind him was...

"Lieutenant Kaja," Lady Sadha Eytapea, the Keeper of Keys and Holder of the Sky's Ear, Liaison to his immortal majesty's most respected Imperial Navy, and the head of the Eyes said. From behind her ceremonial mask, her voice was melodious and almost playful. "I never would have expected to see the day." She walked around the desk, to reach out and touch the pips. Her eyes were unreadable behind the mask. Kaja remained stalk still, her breath caught.

For her entire life, Lady Eytapea had been...

Two girls, playing together by the Waaji beach. One falls and scrapes her knee. The other is lectured for her foolishness.

Two girls, studying for classes. One succeeds at her tests and collapses at home. The other is taken aside and forced to retake the test again and again and again until she is no longer an
embarrassment.

"If my daughter is going to make a pet of you, you could at the very least not relieve yourself in an Imperial Academy's classroom. Do you know, little stray, that these scores are published? They'll all see and they'll all know - your name will be right next to my daughters."

"Again, Stray."

"Again."

"Again."

Kaja tensed. Lady Eytapea caressed her hair back with a single finger, then murmured. "I am proud of you, Kaja."

I'm proud of you? Came from the floor. Whisper. Whisper. Is she lying? Or is that the trick - she's telling the truth?

Kaja stood up straighter. The confused combination of pride and shame and worry gnawed at her, all at once. She tried to keep her eyes emotionless as she could as Lady Eytapea slipped behind the mission commander. He leaned back in his chair, regarding Kaja.

"Lieutenant," he said, voice firm. "How would you like to be wing commander before you're thirty?"

The idea was...staggering. Kaja had dreamed bigger. She had dreamed of the Admiralty. Try and call her a mutie for a heterochromia then. Admiral Kaja. High Admiral Kaja. The image of her at the head of a heavy cruiser or a carrier, crushing any who dared to stand in her way...it was the thing that got her out of bed most of the time. But Wing Commander? Before she was thirty? It was simultaneously more impossible and more plausible, all at once, mixing together to slide past her armor and into her heart.

She wanted it.

She wanted it so badly she could taste it.

Chargen!? AGAIN!? Well, I felt bad you only got to make Ajora in time for me to just throw the entire system out! So, in HEAT, characters begin with a positive and negative trait! Plan votes, please! Also, some of these may imply more mutation than previously established, which is fine.

Positive Traits

[ ] Aggressive: You think slowing down is for other people. Ignore up to 4 range penalties.

[ ] Charming: You have a way with words! +2 environmental effect to positive social interactions.

[ ] Defensive: You keep enemies at bay. At the beginning of your turn, you can move enemies backwards 2 hexes if they are adjacent to you.

[ ] Elder (Reskinned to Well-Read): You've been around. Upon entering a kingdom, solar system, new nation, or city, state a fact about it. This fact is now true - but can be modified by the GM (since it has been a while…)

[ ] Empathic: You know people. Upon meeting someone, the GM must reveal their Motivation to you (note, their motivation may be "keep their true intention from you.") In an Intrigue, you can reveal one Motivation at the beginning of the Intrigue.

[ ] Experiment: You've been augmented somehow. If you are sent into Overheat you can use a power immediately.

[ ] Nerve Uplink: You can connect with other minds with a touch - either biologically or technologically. If you touch a defeated enemy, you can learn 1 fact from them.

[ ] Perceptive: You're hard to surprise. Before enemies act, you get to take one action.

[ ] Suited: You're always in a spacesuit - either because you have to, or because you're just a trained spacer. You never get harmed by environmental effects unless narratively, you're turbofucked. Like, you need to be naked and tied up and then dumped into a vat of chlorine gas.

[ ] Tough: You're unstoppable! Once per combat, if you'd be taken out, you survive and are fine.

[ ] Teeth: You got big chompers, fangies, toofs, clacky clacky white stabbers, jaw-hugs. Add +1 to your base damage for unarmed attacks. This can also represent non-teeth related unarmed abilities.

[ ] Unstoppable: You're a juggernaut, baby! You ignore cover penalties while moving.

[ ] Lucky: Once per combat or intrigue, you can "create" a piece of the environment or a prop that is fortunately in your favor, that just happens to be there.

[ ] Shapeshifter: Gain 3 heat to alter your physical form to be between cat sized and human sized. This can be due to technology, a quirk of your biology, magic or any combination of the three.

Negative Traits

[ ] Asshole: You're just a dick. The first time someone tries to help you using a relationship or loyalty per session, it just doesn't work cause you were like, "Tsch, like I need your help." Dick.

[ ] Dependent: You have an NPC you have to take care of - younger sibling, helpless boyfriend with cute dog, Corporal Jenkins. If they die, your Heat cap is reduced to half, and recovers at 1 point per session afterwards.

[ ] Hunted: Someone, somewhere, wants you and wants you bad. The GM adds +1 to the base danger of all combats.

[ ] Medically Dependent: You require something complicated and expensive to live (5 credits per month.) If you miss it, you reduce your heat cap by 1, per session you miss out until you hit 0 Heat and are Taken out.

[ ] Scarred: You've been run through the mill and are mostly held together through cybernetic components and hope. Choose a sub-skill and take a -2 environmental penalty to it (Charm for ugly scars, Athletics for gimpy leg, and so on.)

[ ] Gullible: When an Intrigue begins, you must reveal your motivations to every Person involved.

[ ] Incompetent: When you gain heat in a skill test (but not for damage or other effects), gain +1 heat afterwards, even if this overheats you.
