Qi Dampening currently doubles (+4) our Stealth while active. Flexibility Cultivation 2 has given us +31HP and +1 dodge dice. Ghost Eyes 2 gives +5 dice per cultivation action and +3 perception dice. Steel Strike is earth element, so we currently have two earth techniques we can learn.

[X] [Letter] Ask if there are any particular relationships - with other clans or governmental departments, with particular individuals - that it might be wise to cultivate in the sect. Ask where our clan as a whole has already sunk time and people into developing relationships. Also, tell him about when we thwarted Wang Shen's interaction with Suyin and ask what he would recommend we do both in response to this event and in response to similar situations in the future. And finally, ask whether it is possible to make a pet or some other kind of companion out of a spirit beast.

[X] [Minor Action] Spend time with Xiaoli – Xiaoli is your best friend and while you will have plenty of time together at the cult, it doesn't hurt to maintain that bond. You also get the feeling that it might not be a bad idea to take her mind off her duties from time to time.
[X] [Minor Action] – Your father mentioned that he was planning to bring Meiling and Mother along during his next visit to Ma Wei. Of course, you could go as well.

I also forgot to include the elemental mastery bonuses from Still Water and Stone Skin cultivation. Fixing that now.

I am also pleasantly surprised to see no overflow decay. That was kind of you @Timewinders, though it adds another thing to think about when putting plans together. Can we vote to default any overflow to Ghost Eyes or Physical Cultivation? I don't imagine it'd come up too often.

I decided that since the overflow represents finishing early and having time to work on other stuff, it makes sense to reallocate it elsewhere. I'll probably just default it to Ghost Eyes unless the most recent vote on cultivation specifies where the overflow goes like this vote did.

This is me being unnecessary but:
[unnecessary] Default to go to Ghost Eyes unless specified elsewhere.

It seems that one unknown disadvantage to shooting straight for Ghost Eyes is that it lowers our Qi growth rate.

Elemental Mastery tier 1 requires at least 4 levels in techniques of the associated element .
- Earth currently has both a defense and strength boost. Good candidate for combat strength.
- Wind currently has an attack and speed boost, and an offensive art. Largest variety that we can currently train.

We REALLY lucked out that there were few beasts nearby when we gathered the herb. Perception roll vs (1d100)d10 means it is usually much much harder than this. I imagine it would be Perception roll + Stealth roll - (1d100)d10 to determine if we can grab the herbs without a fight.
In hindsight, with how strong the herb is we would have gained more dice over the 5 months by planning around gathering it. Perception and Stealth boosting arts, then physical cultivation and speed and combat boosts.

The stat sheet in the informational tab has been updated.

@Umi-san Regarding at your letter vote, I am somewhat concerned that this might be too long. Too many different topics to bring up. We've been keeping it rather concise so far I think.

@Timewinders is that a valid concern?

Well that went well, though I guess Suyin was willing to teach us the strength Boost even without Still Water learned.

Earth sure does look good with both Strength and Defense Boost.

Then specify that.
Also, @Timewinders would asking both my question and how possible it would be to have a pet spirit beast be too much of a burden on the elder?

Both questions should be fine.
ya, it's fine.

I'm curious about ways to help us with herbs after seeing firsthand the danger and also the potential rewards. What about this for a letter?

Tell the elder about your success with finding the herbs and thank him. Ask him if he knows about which Arts and elements are best for gathering herbs and avoiding Spirit beasts.

I'm guessing shadow has good stealth, but is it the only one? What helps find herbs, perception from light? It could Earth help too if it can give a kind of tremorsense to find things growing. I'd like to know as 50 dice is substantial for someone if our talent.

50 dice is substantial for someone if our talent.
That's 50 dice per action. 150 dice each time we use it. This single herb tea eclipses all the cultivation gain from focusing Ghost Eyes 2 early before heading to the sect.

There are no more techniques we know about that will buff our perception. Likeliest candidate for some effect is Air Step that boosts speed. Kind of moot anyway because the cultivation plan is already set up for till we hit the sect. No idea when our next opportunity to collect the herb will come.

Sure but seeing how good they are, what's stopping us from trying to hunt other herbs in the wild. I want the Elder's view on the elements for get hunting and evading spirit beasts.

With elemental mastery we now have a benefit to focusing. Something like Earth Shadow could be interesting if it gives us the strength from Earth to win fights and the shadow stealth to dodge fights we can't win.

Maybe the elder will say higher level Earth arts give a sense for the area around us. Or wind gives us a stealth art that allows us to become scentless.

Maybe he'll say that all the cultivators he has to collect the herbs are Wind based because only they have the speed to collect them. It they are Light because they can bend light and become invisible.

Either way I'm curious and think building towards being able to collect herbs safely could pay dividends.

We might be able to fit in another round of gathering Celestial Lavender just before we head off to the sect. Still Waters 1 will be done by then, so that is +1 dodge die. Might even have Stamina Cultivation 2, which translates to +36 HP. Perception will not rise by then though, so a clean success would still hang on 10d10 vs (1d100)d10. Considering how perception rolls scale this will always be rather horrible odds, we should always go into this expecting to have to at least sneak by something. We definitely don't want to be injured going into the sect.

[X] [Minor Action] Spend time with Father – You do spend quite a bit of time with Father during training and some social events visiting subordinates. But outside of duty, you could still get to know him better as a person.

Edit:
[X] [Minor Action] Spend time with Wang Shen – He seemed like a very unpleasant individual, but he's still a fellow noble of the Four Rivers province. Perhaps some conversation could clear the air or even get him to learn that no means no. Well, it didn't sound believable even in your own head, but it might be worth a try.

Not controversial picks for the most part, I will note the take her mind off her duties part is new for Xiaoli and might be in character hint that spending time with Xiaoli helps with her stress from her heir duties.

Most people don't like Wang Shen, but we do have decent social and we rolled badly to mess things up with him the first time. Taking another stab at it to try and clear the air wouldn't be the worst thing we could do. I am fearful he's going to be at the Sect with us and we'll have made an easily avoided enemy.

@Timewinders just want to say I really like your writing in general and Meiling in particular. Here letter to the Elder and Shao's interactions with her are hilarious and seem like a little kid. Gonna miss Meiling while we're away at the Sect. Think I would vote to start writing her when we go there instead of the Elder.

Our clan knows of several such locations within the province, but I cannot afford to spend all my time guarding them from spirit-beasts. If you are willing to risk your life, I have sent a letter to your father letting him know that I've given you permission to take one of these herbs every other month from one of these sites. Do not take more than that; we cannot risk the extinction of the herbs, and I will notice if you take more. Also, if you do notice the presence of a spirit-beast, you must immediately flee. Your father will give you directions to the location if you wish, but you must go alone.

I will emphasize once again that you would be risking your life, and I would not wish to risk two cultivators' lives. Frankly, it is unlikely that your father would be able to protect you anyway should a spirit-beast find you. It would be best for you to wait until you are at blue before attempting risky adventures like these, but I must admit that I might not have come as far as I have without taking some risks. If you were to do so, it would be slightly less dangerous for you to make such an attempt in the winter since fewer herbs survive the frosts, drawing less spirit-beasts. By the same token, however, it will be more difficult for you to find the herbs. I leave the decision up to you.
Things to note:
1. There are several locations. If there is one near the sect sneaking out to collect might be an option.
2. We are allowed to pick one herb every other month. This means we will likely have the option again in the weeks just before leaving for the sect.
2. The Elder describes this as very risky, suggests Blue (Avg Phys Cult 4?) before making attempts. If we notice a spirit beast we've basically been ordered to run.
3. Winter is safer. If I kept track of cultivation correctly it is now around 2.75 months since the New Year. This last chapter says it is the month of Rain, which sounds to me like Spring. Guess we REALLY lucked out grabbing the herbs.
4. We can forget trying to fight off the beasts. Stat priority for herb collection: Perception for noticing herbs and beasts; Stealth to not be noticed; Speed, Dodge, and Stamina to run and stay away.

Just thinking about it, Stealth attacking someone is insanely good. They don't get to use their dodge, if they aren't expecting it they won't have boosts on, and by getting a big first attack we soften them up so their HP% lowers their rolls.

Would be a way for us to punch above our weight class.

Yup. Though I am reducing the wounded penalty to square root of hp%.
