Hard Enough - Pokemon SI

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I'm honestly a little concerned we haven't gotten a Rocket pov reaction to the raids recently, it feels like that's signifying it isn't quite over yet.

*Misty takes pictures.

"Hope the pictures look good, I don't know if the lighting was good for this."

"What are ya talking about Misty?"

"I just took some pictures of Sabrina dressed up all fancy like."

"Why are you talking like a farm girl?"

"Summer job at a Taurus farm, it made me avoid meat for a while."

"I better not ask then, I love meat."

Did Charmander die?
I mean, it's been a while since I watched the anime, but Charmander was quite close to dying in the rain there.

The assumption I always made was that Damian probably used Charmander in the first two gyms, and when he found his fire type was useless against rock and water types, he foolishly concluded it was weak and abandoned it. Then again it's been so long that the only thing I can remember about the episode is Ash trying to prevent Charmander's flame going out in the rain, so that might not be canon.
Obviously Viva is going with a different view of how things work out.

Whether or not Damian abandons it in this timeline, the point where Damian would abandon it should still be a little while in the future.

As always, great build up.

The Ball is gonna be great with Sabrina there to peel the curtain and Brock to help dark her out at times to help if she gets overwhelmed.

When he goes on his journey, I get the feeling Forrest will get teased for using all those Ultra Balls. He'll get a taste of the treatment Brock has gotten, with the contrast between living one way and getting treated like you're part of a different economic class. "You must've paid for all of those pokemon," and comments like that.

I wonder if Ash is going to catch a rock or ground type, or receive one from Brock. Gary has his Diglett, and it'd be a step away from canon. Maybe Misty will get a pokemon instead?

Was letting the story rest a bit. I thought the Ash matter would be resolved by now, who's going with him!?
Maybe he will just be followed by a ninja and have Brock on call? Or Yolanda is still an option?

She is too young even for the Anime and early games ten year olds thing.

Per the author's Dramatis Personae threadmark under Informational, Yolanda was already ten years old at the start of the story.

Brock finally remembers Damian and Charmander. Good!

It looks like Ash's battle comes after the ball. Damian already got a shot in, so perhaps he's scheduled a while after Ash for his rematch. He has a Poliwhirl and Oddish already but has zero experience using them, meaning he was likely given them in the first place. Brat of a kid who knows type advantages, but nothing much else. Likely never been told no or 'you can't do blank' either. Smart enough not to use Charmander against a rock gym, I'll give him that, but he also doesn't seem willing to challenge his mon in the least. When he next pops up for the gym challenge, it's going to be a fun chapter.

Time to see what exactly these fancy schmancy balls are about in the pokemon world. Brock's got best girl Sabrina joining him, but that probably won't stop some old grumps trying to manipulate a teenage gym leader anyways.

So for the guy who was whiny about a YouTube channel about Pokemon Programing bugs being gone here is a YouTube channel with very oscure facts about Pokemon games.

A few of those facts I already knew others took me by surprise.

Anyway back to the story, hopefully the mayor actually turns to not be corrupt.

There was never an indication of him being corrupt, just a politician whose eyes are too big for his stomach that won't listen to the only person of similar social rank to him when given forewarning.

Unless there was a genderswitch I missed, I'd use brother for Max
Doh. Was thinking "May is Max's sister" when checking his age, haha.

How would folks feel if Brock actually discovered/gained a Rock-type evolution for Eevee? If not for him to train, one of his siblings. Would team Rocket or other thieves dare to steala unique pokemon from his siblings?

Will is going to challenge Brock at the ball, isn't he? It is a public enough venue and Will can build hype for the match by talking shit about Sabrina, who is going as Brock's date. Publicity for two future matches at the price of one: Sell Brock's as defending her honor and Sabrina's as determining the best psychic type user.

Ehh... If Will battles Brock first though, I doubt we'll see him challenge Sabrina to a battle later in the arc. However... We might see a non-Gym battle between Will and Sabrina. We've seen how commonly disputes are settled with a battle in this fic.

We might see a 1v1 or 2v2 between Will and Sabrina, intended to hype up Brock's full on Ace battle with Will. I'd like that a lot... But I'd also be amused by the idea that Brock's efforts wind up going to waste, because he challenges Sabrina first and loses to her.

Pissing off the world's most powerful non-Pokemon psychic on a date doesn't seem to be the best career/life move.

That said, yup I could totally see Will doing it. I don't think he'll like the result.

Totally. First it'll piss off Brock who is already not feeling charitable towards Will and second it will piss off Sabrina. Brock was already going to bring his A-game against Will. Pissing him off will only convince Brock that he needs to stomp Will's entire team into a mud-puddle, preferably completely humiliating the little prick as a result, before tossing Will out of HIS gym and saying "Come back when you're actually Hard Enough to challenge me without trying to scout me first." After that I suspect Sabrina will be very happy with Brock and reward him handsomely ;).
