Halkegenia Online Thread 7: "Arrun Noir"

Why My mind is producing this image when you said Yui will become Tall, dark and Bishoujo?

must be reading too much FSN fanfic, hoping for Rider to get her happy ending with Sakura....
Akiha might have the similar looks, but Rider is far and beyond my favorite.

Hmm... I can draw four-swords, and you guys can start praying to an Elder God (Try Azathoth, that might work.) that I'm done within this month, or I can do Kofu's canon weapon, a single high-spec katana, and we might be done by tomorrow and I can go insane on the details since it's just one and not four weapons. I think I will take the second option, the 4 swords can get a separate page and I can work on Marina faster.

But what to classify, Kofu being a swordsmith would know her weapon inside and out, so that means she knows what she wants in her weapon. Being a Leprechaun there is little out of reach she can't create, so it should not be unexpected if she can make a weapon that defies some usual weapon standards, I'd say, a two-handed katana type, daito, specification, speed, force and defensive properties should equate in perfect balance. Mounting should be on the back because it usually looks more impressive that way, maybe slightly more heavy-set as a throwback to previous weapon plans. That and perhaps reference to Blue 1's katana and spear.

Hmm...

I call dibs on the name! And it will be called «Enso», a simple name, meaning 'circle', that which symbolizes strength, elegance, and an expression of the moment when the body and spirit is free to create. And by create I mean Kofu's idea of a perfect katana, and as smiths will say, that which you create will be perfect for but a moment, because one day something will be created which overshadows that which you have created. At least that's my idea of a fitting name.

Did anything ever come of the magic items at the top of the World Tree? I mean the ones that were hax and broken and were removed from the game. Because it seems to me like that has the potential for becoming a truly devastating force multiplier
They seemingly left the there when they got out with the chalice.

If they get back up there, presumably trough the raid, then theyll have to see whats still there, and what works how.
Now assuming cardinal isnt there and restricting that stuff on principle, they could be, but you had better be very carefull. That stuff was imbalanced, buggy, and probably not properly finished or tested in many cases. Now that its real it could be very dangerous, not just towards enemies.
So if anythings there, they better build some laboratory away from anything important to analyze that stuff carefully.

I'm still doubtful that Cardinal will even have left that Lab intact. Seems like it'd be exactly the kind of thing she's deconstruct the moment players left it. Even more so for buggy and unbalanced items stored there. If they do reach the top of the tree, they're more likely to find whatever Cardinal decided to build instead.

What Xexilf said. While the items on top of the World Tree have the potential to be incredibly game-changing, they're also hard to get in the first place being inaccessible at the moment. And once they are acquired, they might have some peculiarities that may not be to the Fae's liking. Some testing will need to be done before they can be considered safe to use. I can imagine though that the approved items would be distributed only in an emergency, or based on rank.

In the meantime, I made a shop to that Akiha image to make her more...'Yui' I guess.

I still find it remarkable that changing some details by only a few millimeters can completely change a drawing's expression.

It seems to me like Cardinal has been rendered down into the passive/distant/all-encompassing mind of the World Tree and will likely interfere a lot less. This is a good thing because literal Deus Ex Machina often breaks stories and makes them boring unless restricted to a single climactic moment the main characters had to work for. Beyond that, Cardinal also had many of it's tools stripped from it with the Transition.

Oh sure there's Bishop, but in the end, she's probably just the manifestation of the information crawler that Cardinal used to study mythology for forming new quests.
I'm not sure I got the same impression. I took it more that Cardinal just never had the kind of mindset or goals that would drive her to direct intervention.

Yeah, I've been through those reviews and a grand total of one of them was anything other than appreciative and respectful. If we could stop the FF bashing anytime soon, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it.
Can I at least chuckle at all the ones saying 'good story' when there's an AN clearly stating that it's only the epilogue for the arc?

TH referred to the next part as continuation, people took that to mean a separately posted sequel...well I guess if you find that funny but I'm not sure why you would.

Oh, and I've decided on the next scene. Probably going to try and crank it out tomorrow. There were several contenders, but I settled on Sakuya and Alicia watching the debates between Regin and Rio, followed by a peak at what Asuna and Yui have been up to. (Yui no doubt has been spoiled rotten by Emily and Henrietta.)
All Hail the Hypno Toad Moe Faery!

From what I can find in canon, the Cardinal system was not designed to interfere directly with the players in SAO. (Hence Yui getting locked down.) Cardinal dealt with other things. Now that Cardinal is running around HalO I have no idea what Cardinal is going to do, but that starting point is going to affect her (?) for a long time. I would expect that Cardinal would start by working behind the scenes. Blatant action wouldn't occur to her as a first, second, or third option.

I think some people didn't figure out that the timeline for HalkO is different. Which is why Saito/Arguile sort of works, he's 17 in 2001 to 2003-4 where the canon summoning takes place. By 2022 Saito would be from 34 to 38 years old.

So I realized I sort of wrote myself into a corner and fudged it up with that last minute throw in, so lets fix a few things shall we?

GGG GaoProject

Initially, this project was in place to treat and save the lives of Pixie pilots who were injured beyond the reach of ordinary Water Mage and Fae healing and recovery spells. the Zonderizing process did truly horrifying things to the Pixie pilots in the earlier stages of the conflict, and many pilots that did not immediately die from the trauma were driven irrevocably insane before the shock of the situation drove them to extreme measures to handle it. A scant few managed to survive the process without succumbing to insanity, including Gai, and these brave Pixies will be remembered in posterity as noble protectors of Tristain.

GBR-1 "GaoGaiGar"

Units Produced: 1 (Sub Units: 4, 3 GaoMachines, Gaoleon)
Body Plan: Humanoid
Height: 2m
Weight: 253kg
Generator: Multiple G-stone Amplifiers (GGG Forces Classified) working in Tandem.

The original work produced to fight the Zonderising Alviss. Piloted by Gai, who after her encounter with a Zonder Alviss herself was left twisted almost beyond saving her body. After saving her life with radical new Magical Procedures and prosthetics, she blossomed into this new form that is half Alviss. Through the new form she is able to fuse with Gaoleon, the primary unifying Unit of GaoGaiGar.

GBR-2 "HyoRyu", GBR-3 "EnRyu"

Units Produced: 1
Body Plan: Lion
Length: 156 cm (not including tail)
Weight: 168 kg
Generator: G.S. Ride System (GGG Forces Classified)

A rare pair of twin Pixies, "born" from their flowers at the same time, as well as blossoming into Pilot form simultaneously. These sisters were on a protection detail of a village that was being harassed by a bandit force, believed to be involved with the leader of the Alviss Dolls forces. The attackers were driven off and decimated, but on their way back to the capitol, they were attacked and assimilated. Their remains were damaged almost beyond saving, but HyoRyu (Former Name classified) managed to get a contact spell through the pain and call in assistance. Gai responded and defeated the two Zonders, and the sisters were recovered. Though they were in incredible pain, the sisters had not been lost to madness, and quickly agreed to GGG's experimental procedure. They were reborn as the templates of the first Magical AI units, before being installed into Lioness combat bodies.

The G.S. Ride system has greatly enhanced their magical capacity and ability, bringing out an unheard of potential in their natural elemental affinities, Water(Ice) for HyoRyu and Fire for EnRyu.

GGG Tool 3 "Eraser Head System"

A special tool, created in conjunction with Tristain's assistance and our ongoing studies into Void Magic. A large and bulky system, with a specially designed and crafted warhead. It consists of a Frame with a complicated and hard to reproduce permanent levitation and propulsion enchantment, allowing it to be sent quickly over large distances, as well as assisting in balancing the load when set to the shoulder to be fired. A docking hardpoint is located on the underside, that connects it to ChoRyuJin's shoulder when preparing to fire. Currently, it requires the strength that ChoRyuJin can bring to bear to anchor and support this cannon's firing. (We're working on the Recoil though, the levitation enchantment helps a lot more than you would think! --H)

The barrel of the weapon runs the length of the device and is the mount for a long, specially designed, and crafted projectile that accepts enchantment effects to be spread over a large area quickly. A small cockpit is positioned atop the weapon allowing the mage enchanting the projectile to view their surroundings and allow them to determine when to begin their enchantment. The enchanted projectile is then fired out explosively, vaporizing and being scattered over the target area, spreading the enchantment over the entire area at once.

The test fire of the weapon involved a healer that had just constructed a spell that would cure a disease that was plaguing a nearby town. The test fire spread the spell over the entire village and cured everyone within the limits of the city.

Well, I don't see why he couldn't start a new story if he wanted to. Heck, he could just call it 'Halkeginia Online volume 2.0.' It honestly feels like it should be broken into a sequel story.

... Realized I can do more with that shop... here's version 3, which includes changes to her hair to more resemble Yui's:

NOW she definitely looks like an adult Yui imho.

Maybe he should.

Halkeginia Online is 12k words away from Atlas Shrugged and 30k away from War and Peace.

New readers usually stay away from super long stuff (or so I'm told)

She also looks like Kiriko-chan with Fae ears. Which makes it work even more.

I still think is is less Kirito and more Kirito-and-Leefa-and-Klein-and-Morigana-and-Sakuya-and-Alicia-and-Argo-and... who will be "vetting" any potential romantic interests.

Bardiche: "Yui, you're blessed to be loved so much by so many people you know?"

Yui: "Yes, I'm very glad I am!"

Bardiche: *glances at the people glaring at him from behind and shivers.* "Just wish that love extended to me."

Yui: *pulls Bardiche closer by the arm* "Well, I can always extend you mine."

Bardiche: "T-t-thanks..."

Why would someone stay away from long stories? I usually find the short ones are... lacking; and not just in word count.
