Halkegenia Online Thread 11: Eh, she'll get the familiar eventually . . .

Jonnoda said:
Ugh Heathcliff? Whats he going to do, appear out of nowhere in his next godmode form and decide that since fantasy has become reality why not bow down and become this girls servant? Its not like he's divine or anything after frying his brain so he could MMO fulltime...

Oh wait...*sigh*
He could, you know, want to explore a real-real fantasy world where swords (and magic) can take people places, where there are physical floating islands, castles and airships, and the familiar thing gives him a physical way to do it?

Ugh, that's my issue, I don't really want it to be Heathcliff, but I can somewhat see how TH could make it work. Honestly, that could go so badly.

Could you imagine Kirito and Asuna's reaction to seeing Heathcliff after coming to rescue Louise? The desire to stab him... just a little bit, to show what playing a death game is like when you don't have GM privileges to godmode yourself at will.

Which is the "kill it with fire" reaction TH said the familiar would inspire.
Though Kirito and Asuna would probably be more cool about Kayaba then most other SAO surviviors.

Though I'm sure there are ways to challenge my theory and it could be someone else.

"This level of reasoning is possible for Furudo Erika Shinji117. ......What do you think, everyone?"

Cardinal still has to 'live' someplace, it's not detached from the world, and that place is the World Tree.

Hint: Louise's familiar is not Cardinal.
Thought that was what Bishop was for.

Edit: Excuse me, I should have said 'I thought that was what the library was for.' ;)

And yes, I figured Mort was wrong about it being Cardinal. It was the logical conclusion from the available facts in-universe that he was aware of, but he was still off the mark.

Also said it would be a plot-enabler and instigate a "kill it with fire" reaction.
So I'm guessing Kayaba, esp for the last criteria.
My money's on Klein.

Ahh Kleins reaction to be unceremoniously dragged into the middle of this whole mess would be sublimely hilarious.

Edit: Personally Klein is the only named male character who has all the personal/story characteristics to be a good Gandalfr. Plus it would give him a few levels in badass if he could start using his sword to pull of actual samurai moves and whatnot.

Unfortunately he doesn't really seem to fit the chant requirements, which TH says will all be fulfilled. It's possible though, its not like Saito fulfilled all the requirements to the chant, at least not right away.

"Blessed be the mind too small for doubt"?

Having just played DoW recently, the image of Julio speaking with a synthesized voice won't leave my head...

What next, "Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment"?

Klein, diving head-first to the rescue, with memories of all the people who jumped to their deaths during SAO incident fresh in his mind, in a feat of Harem-protagonist timing falls right in the way of Louise's lips... That's entirely too possible....

Thoughts about why? Would be interested in hearing/discussing other people's theories.
Reading back on the Tarbes arc.

The way her spell took out Lhamthanc when he was carrying her.

Her general treatment of him paralleling Saito in canon.

Ch11 P8 - "Yes, Ma'am, your wish is my command." indeed.

"Kill it with fire" reaction. Really?

Plus, and this was the big one, I believe TH once said the clue was in the Tarbes Arc one or two threads ago.

So I've suspected for awhile, and in retrospect it makes so much sense, but I'm just now putting it out there because we're so close to the reveal.

Hm. So less meta reasoning and more subtle in-story clues. Certainly possible, though if Klein were the target not sure why he didn't get physically pulled out of the sim. Unless being inside a VR messes with the summoning spell, which is totally possible.

I thought the hint in the Tarbes arc was her wand cracking for no apparent reason. At any rate after this arc is over we can all do rereads and see if we can find the varying Chekhov's guns relating to Louise + familiar that TH has scattered throughout the earlier chapters.

Not gonna say nor speculate anything till TH says so....

We're already threading a very dangerous topic.

Even it's quite relevant at this point on. But not to mention...

The discussion will be cut off abruptly due to the remaining pages and I don't think it's appealing to start a new thread with a long line of argument about who's gonna be Louise's familiar.
Since when has that ever stopped us before?

I believe that also is indicated in a subtle in-story clue:

Ch11 P2

"Then is possible that the Transition was somehow the summoning spell's solution?" Mortimer looked on calmly, red eyes blinking once. "The Game Engine is integrated into the entirety of ALfheim, there is not one thing that the System does not touch. In fact, the game system and players may be viewed as a single massive network for purposes of modeling the full dive system. But the Engine itself lacks a physical existence, and as we have already seen with our own changed bodies and the mobs, particularly the Pixies, these former constructs have been actualized in line with their intent. This leads me to a single conclusion."
When the familiar spell latched on to one part of the network, the rest was connected as well, including Cardinal. And thus, HalO was born.

THE CUES.
WHAT DO THE CUES MEAN, MASON?

No 'kill it with fire' reaction there though.
Unless he is talking about Kirito and Asuna's reactions to Louise. Ironically Yui would probably be the only one ok with being Louise's familiar.

Already preparing the armada for launch. Awaiting response from Glitner space station. Hopefully an NPC doesn't abuse the fact that I recalled my troops.

Remember that Yui was supposed to use the Chalice of Resurrection at some point?

Bind something both Julio and Louise would regret.
Something beautiful.
Something powerful.
Something wise.
Something Divine.

Something that will make people want to kill it with Fire.

Results:

A Divine Aesir (like Thor)

Is beautiful, is powerful, is divine, is wise, is something both Julio and Louise would regret.
Is a divine spirit, a god other than Brimir (Kill it with fire reaction).

Bonus points if she summons Odin (that turns out to be Heathcliff).
