Having Minovsky beam tech will make us a game breaker. Minovsky particles will also fuck with electronics. And the only other way to fix the whole lack of power problems that the earth sphere is suffering due to the N-Jammers without handing out the N-jammer cancelers is Minovsky tech. Handing out the cancelers will allow nukes to be a thing again.
Heh. Let me tell you. ZAFT already developed NJC and in fact, they're planning to give it to Reverend Malchio somewhere in mid CE 71 to solve the energy problem. It is was delayed because something happened to Dreadnought Gundam.

Correct. SEED nuclear reactors strapped with an n-jammer canceler. The minovsky reactor is its own thing on comparison, although I'm not sure on clear advantages.
It should also be noted that while only specific Gundams in SEED get nuclear reactors, every single god damn mobile suit in UC has one.
The main disadvantage the UC option we have is not really a high performance machine. Better than the MS at the moment, but it would only be a little better than a ZAKU Warrior once we reach that point

I'm not to sure about that. And even if it is we will probably be able to upgrade at that point. As for Minovsky reactors they are fusion reactors. It's also much more efficient and gives out more power then it takes to get it going.
Here's a link to a article on wikipedia about universal century tech.
RGM-86R GM III, or simply GM III is the mobile suit that used to be your Gunpla. You bought it merely as an afterthought because it was cheap since it wasn't a hero suit, older gunpla battlers recommended it, and it does look cool to your eyes. So, you snapped it up when the store owner put it on sale.
However, since most of your allowance went to Cortana's upgrade, the GM III is still in its stock configuration.
Derived from totally different Gundam timeline, you're not sure how it will stand up to the mobile suit of Cosmic Era and certainly, it is not something that you wish to find out in the heat of battle. You value your life, your beauty and your health. Thank you very much.
To make things worse, the GM III is from Universal Century timeline of Gundam series while you, like other girls in your age, gravitate more towards the Cosmic Era and Anno Domini part of the franchise. Mostly because of their better looking art and animation than the old school shows.
To simply put, you only have minimal idea on Universal Century tech.
In the end, you voice out your frustration in the form of a tired sigh and take a nap inside the bridge. It is a weird sensation, to fell the weightlessness in zero gravity. However, it is a small mercy you are not affected by the so called space sickness.
You don't know how long you're asleep when you're jolted from your sleep by Cortana's loud voice, calling for your attention.
"OIII, SHIREEEE!!!! WAKE UP, WE HAVE COMPANY!!!"
What, since when Cortana speaks Japanese?
Oh right, she an AI. Probably she has the language in her database.
"Uh… What is it?" you ask groggily.
"I've detected something~ See, see?" Cortana announces in singing tune as she brings up her sensors feed on one of the screens. Then, she adds, "I crosschecked them with my database…"
Through you still bleary eyes, you see the unknown contacts are now marked as...
[] One civilian ship heading to Junius Seven but there are one Nelson-class and three Drake-class on intercept course.
[] Two Nazca-class heading towards the general direction of Mendel.
I don't know what's the preference at your part of the world. But here, most of my female friends that have any inkling about Gundam generally dislike UC. They prefer CE because the bishounen looks of the characters.

[X] One civilian ship heading to Junius Seven but there are one Nelson-class and three Drake-class on intercept course. No. of votes: 4 veekie, Skybreaker, wolfzoid, KnightIcarus
So I guess we are starting near the very end of seed. Well that sucks. We really won't be able to do much to influence the general plot. And ORB was just nuked. I guess we don't have a chance to prevent shin from becoming like he did.
[X] Three Vesalius-class heading towards the general direction of Mendel.
You fix your eyes at the screen. The unknown contacts are now marked as Vesalius-class destroyers and they're heading to the same destination as you're. And they're close, uncomfortably so.
1250 clicks.
Why on earth ZAFT ships are here, far away from PLANT and moon?
Could it be you just stumbled on Vesalius, heading for the Three Ships Alliance? That's the only instance you know ZAFT sent their ships this far out.
Or maybe the ships are simply making routine patrol and harassing any Earth Alliance' ship they encounter.
"Uh… Cortana, have we been detected?" you ask. You know some of the reasons why they're not being detected sooner is because of the debris, as well as interference from N-Jammers ZAFT has placed deep inside Earth.
"I'm afraid so, commander," the grey haired android replies with a grimace.
You put your face in your palms and moan in frustration. You know Cortana still has the detection signature of a Nelson-class battleship, and you're not exactly running in silently either. There is no doubt the Nazcas are going to assume Cortana is an Earth Alliance ship.
True to your prediction, the three ships begin to change their course and head towards you.
Then, bad thing turns to worse when Cortana announce a spike in radio and radar interference, as well as detection of new heat signatures from the destroyers. The three Nazcas are launching their GINNs.
You gulp. Here you are, alone with your ship, facing three warships and potentially up to 18 mobile suits out for you blood just because they misidentified you as the EA.
"Commander. Should we begin our strike?" Cortana asks, raring to get herself into action.
You weigh your options. You know if you choose to run, you're not going to outstrip them by any margin and that means you have to slug it out with ZAFT.
[] Yes. Damn the consequences and strike them down, all out!
[] Yes. But try to minimize the casualty.
[] No. Use any means to secure parley, even at the risk of being captured.
