Gundam: Life of A Zeon Soldier

Marth 4, Simulation Victory/March 5, Goodbye Texas
"Hey, Jacobs, Mikey, next time I'm going to scout ahead to get a look at the enemy forces and the environment so that we know what we are dealing with is that okay? I cover the most range between the three of us and I have an upgraded thruster that will help me escape danger." Mellisa speaks her mind after being in thought for a little too long. Jacobs and Mikey agree with her plan and go back into the mission.

The environment is modeled after Los Angeles since Garma's forces will be passing through it while going to the Federation's California Base. The mission is to take down the enemy forces and it is also created in case that the Federation had managed to steal Zeon mobile suits. So far only eleven of the sixty squads that landed in Texas have managed to beat it. Mellisa, Jacobs and Mikey are trying it out for training since they are the combat units of their squad.

The three enter the mission and Mellisa goes ahead to scout the area. She informs her team of large buildings that would make good view points for firing her and Mikey's Zaku Bazookas, streets that can used for sneak attacks and dangerous open areas where they would be left defenseless. Mellisa decides climbs a tall building with a Zaku Grappling Hook in hopes she will get a look of enemy forces while Mikey and Jacobs are forming a defensive corner.

Mellisa reaches the top and looks for the enemy. She spots a Dragonfly on the horizon and looks around it spot the rest of the forces. Three Depp Rogs, three Flyarrows, two Dragonflies and four Fly Mantas in the sky while on the ground there are five Type 61 Tanks and three stolen Zaku IIs which are only equipped with Machine Guns. Mellisa informs Jacobs and Mikey about the enemy forces and their location.

Mellisa stays on the building and takes out her Zaku Bazooka to fire at the air forces first since they have more numbers and have dominance otherwise. Mikey advances to a good position to also fire at the air forces while Jacobs advances around to surprise the ground troops when enough of the air forces are depleted. Mellisa takes aim and fires.

Dice Roll: 3+4= 7 [success]

Mellisa fires six times and hits four targets destroying one dragonfly, two Depp Rogs and a Fly Manta. Mikey also fires and takes down the remaining Depp Rog, Dragonfly, and two Flyarrows. Jacobs gets into position slowly following the ground forces who react to the destroyed air units by splitting up to where the shots were fired. Jacobs follows the group going towards Mikey. Mellisa reloads as the remaining air forces advance in her direction.

Dice Roll: 4+4= 8 [success]

Mellisa fires four times and destroys the remaining air forces. Mikey notices and leaves his advantage point to attack the forces going towards him which are four 61 Type Tanks and a single Zaku II. He takes him and fires at the Zaku which causes it to fall over. Jacobs runs up behind it and finishes it off. Together the duo destroy the tanks before going to assist Mellisa.

Mellisa notices the enemy forces which are a single 61 Type Tank and the remaining two Zaku IIs advancing to her position. She does the first thing comes her mind. She jumps down sliding her Zaku against the building while to slow her fall while aiming her machine gun down at the enemy forces who aim at her.

Dice Roll: 5+5= 10 [complete success]

Mellisa fires down with both her Machine Gun and Missile Pod at the enemies taking down one of the Zakus and the 61 Type Tank. She lands fine enough and charges into the enemy Zaku who doesn't even have a melee weapon to defend itself while she cuts it in half with her Heat Hawk. The battle is won with the entire squad still active.

The simulator ends and the three soldiers jump out and high five one another for a good job. The combat units of Squad 51 are now twelfth team to beat the mission. The officer in charge of the simulator writes down their names and squad to give to Garma so he can keep note of them.

The three celebrate at the cafeteria with Jacobs and Mikey getting beer while Mellisa orders milk. The rest of squad minus Faris meet up with them after hearing about what they did to congratulate them though Mars is a little bitter he couldn't take part in the mission himself. The squad finish up as the sun falls down for the day and go off to their tents.

As Mellisa and Francine walk back to their tent, Mellisa looks up into the sky to notice an HLV going back into space. She wonders if it was Ral's or if Ral had already left while she was busy. But, Mellisa still salutes the HLV hoping that she will see Ral, again, whether it be on the battlefield or else where. Francine shrugs and wondering what kind of guy managed to get Mellisa's respect. The two continue to their tents to call it a night.

March 5th...

The big day has come and a farewell party is being held for Garma and the troops he is taking with him to California. Mellisa is overlooking the celebration noticing Mars and Mikey taking part in the festivities. She remembers Francine telling her that she will be helping Faris in organizing where the squad will be during the travel while Jacobs and George are backing the rest of their belongings. Mellisa wonders if the whole war will just be her going to place to place. Only resting a few days before doing somewhere else. But, how will she spend her last few hours on the base.

Road to California
Mellisa decides to go for a small walk around the newly named Texan Base to spend her last time on base in peace & quiet. She wonders around the newtype testing facility and sees two twins waiting for their appointment both comforting one another. Mellisa wonders how many young people are newtypes or are just psychic. Next, she goes to the newly built memorial and sees a woman on her knees praying with flowers in her hands. Mellisa decides to move on not wanting to bug the woman. Finally, she goes to the tent area where people are packing or just relaxing while the party goes on. That is when Mellisa sees Doan just laying on his back looking at the clouds. She decides to go see him since they are one of three heroes of the Battle of Texas still on Earth.

"Doan, why aren't you at the party?" Mellisa asks looking down at the relaxing Doan.

"I'm not good at goodbyes. I get teary eyed and things become awkward."

"Well, do you have all your things packed?"

"I'm not going to California. I'm staying here with Colonel M'Quve." Doan says calmly.

"What?" Mellisa exclaims surprised that Doan is staying.

"I don't feel like following a guy who never got his hands dirty like Garma. I'm staying in Texas until M'Quve is ready to go to New York." Doan says stretching before getting up while Mellisa is lost in thought.

She doesn't want Doan to stay here and work under someone like M'Quve who views every single subordinate as a pawn to be scarified. A man who Ral warned her about and was the reason he decided to come to Earth.

"But, he's not a good man. He sent his troops to die in the one week battle while he got the credit. M'Quve is a scumbag, the kind of scumbag who I despise with a passion. Please, Doan don't stay behind and follow his orders." Mellisa explains to Doan worried that M'Quve will use him. Doan takes time to think of a response thinking of the rumors he had heard of M'Quve and Garma.

"What makes you think Garma isn't like that? You seemed to dislike Garma a few days ago. What changed?"

"He saluted the fallen while M'Quve didn't, he thank us while M'Quve didn't, when it turned out I wasn't a full newtype he still was happy since he believed I could become greater while M'Quve didn't even give me a second glance and I know for sure he is at the goodbye party right now while M'Quve is somewhere plotting. Please, Doan, do not stay here with M'Quve."

Doan takes time to respond and puts his hand on Mellisa's shoulder, "Okay, I'll go ask if I can be transferred to Garma's forces. I hope your judgment is right, Mellisa."

Doan leaves to the main building and Mellisa breaths a sigh of relief. She than looks around at the other relaxing soldiers and realizes how many soldiers are staying to follow M'Quve. Mellisa decides to leave knowing she can't convince all of them to go with Garma.

A little while later...

A siren goes off signaling that it's time for Garma's forces to begin their campaign to California. Mellisa runs to the Fat Uncle where her squad is staying. She notices Doan in a truck on his way as well. He waves to Mellisa and she waves back smiling that, at least, she got someone to follow Garma.

Mellisa gets into the Fat Uncle where her team is waiting for her. Faris goes to Mellisa annoyed.

"Private First Class Wild, you had the squad worried. Next time, stay nearby."

"I know, i know. My beating heart is stilling me right now." Mellisa says trying to catch her breath.

She takes her seat next to Jacobs who is patting her on the back and Francine who passes Mellisa a bottle of water to hydrate her. Mikey is looking at his brother's photo while Mars fidgeting with his lighter. It seems like the squad is ready to get on the trail. Then the speaker turns on and it is Garma giving a speech.

"Today, great soldiers of Zeon, we go will continue our invasion of Earth by taking over North America. I know you are sadden to leave your fellow soldiers. But, we will reunite with whether it be on the battlefield or celebrating our victory back on our home. I'm just as worried as all of you. But, we must continue for if we don't many other spacenoids will suffer under the Federation's iron fist. Stay tight and ready for combat. We will bring victory to Zeon and bring peace to all spacenoids. Sieg Zeon!"

"Sieg Zeon!" Every single soldier yells out in unison. Thus begins the next stage of the One Year War begins.

Mellisa Wild's general traits and skills. These will be updated throughout the quest when as she deals with the struggle to survive Universal Century.

Mellisa's Traits
Hot-Blooded: B
Can get caught up in her own hype, rushes ahead when victory seems close and does things without thinking half the time.

Anti-Authority: C
Only listens to those she respects and likes. The current list is Claude Faris, Garma Zabi and Ramba Ral.

Newtype: E+
Weak empath abilities though she can feel when a strong newtype is around.

Spacenoid
Is accustomed to low-gravity or space combat.

Keeps up to date on what the frontlines in Zeon's war look like keeping note of ace pilots.

Can pickpocket, steal of break into places with ease.

Self taught and can stand her own in a fight.

Decent at using guns though mostly she prefers using pistols and rifles.

New Mexico
March 7th, 0079, Garma's forces are setting up an outpost in New Mexico and the 51st squad are standing guard. Mellisa is sitting and reading battle reports from space. The dominations of the Black Tri-Stars, the victories of Char Aznable and the "grand" return of the Blue Giant, Ramba Ral to space.
Mellisa smiles, "Soon they'll start reporting on Earth stationed Aces soon enough. After California, they will know what kind of aces that down here."
She then gets a call from Faris who tells her in a stern voice, "Private First Class Wild, pay attention! Your Zaku is looking the wrong direction."
Mellisa looks at her Zaku's screen and sees it is looking at the wrong direction. She adjusts her Zaku and looking in the right direction.

"Sorry, Sergeant Major, I was busy reading battle reports." Mellisa says pointing at her booklet only to remember Faris's Armored Vehicle doesn't have a comm-screen to see it.

Faris sighs, "We are on lookout, Wilds. You may read it after our shift is over though."

"Yes, sir." Mellisa says putting the booklet away.

Faris ends the call and Mellisa focuses on her lookout.

Since leaving Texan Base, Mellisa and the 51 squad have been out of action since the campaign thus have had time to adjust for the next battle. With a good chunk of the team upgrading their equipment and Mobile suits.

[Jacobs has switched to a Zaku II Ground Type keeping his original load-out]

[Mikey has add a 120mm Sniper Rifle to his load-out]

[Francine upgraded George's Zaku II to have stronger sensors and Sturm Faust]

These upgrades have helped the squad work better as a team with Mellisa, Jacobs and Mars being on the front line, Mikey, Francine and George remain behind them supporting the two and Faris commanding the squad. While they haven't had time to try out their tactics they are confident in each other, at least. Mars has calmed down since being punished by Faris and promised to stay with the group when the next battle happens.

Back to Mellisa, who is fanning herself because It is hot and stuffy in her Zaku. She has already removed her vest and rolled up her pants too cool down. The basic Zaku II don't have air conditioners built into them though the Ground Types do and Francine installed a mini-fan her own Zaku. Mellisa writes down to ask Francine to install one into her's.

After three more hours, it is finally time to trade shifts with another squad. Mellisa exclaims, "Thank god!" before making her Zaku rush back to the Fat Uncle so she can get out of it to get fresh air. Francine looks at George through her Zaku and George shrugs with his Zaku.

After exiting her mobile suit, Mellisa cools off in the shower. She could never get used to how hard the water falls on her compared to when she was in space, they feel like they are pushing her to the floor.

"Earth's gravity feels so limiting. I wonder why there were people who stayed on Earth?"

She finishes up and bumps into another pilot, Ian Graden. A dark skinned man just a little taller than Mellisa with a chill atmosphere around him.

"I'm sorry, young lady. I didn't see you." Ian says earnestly.

"It's fine, My name is Mellisa Wild, I'm a Private First Class and a part of the fifty first squad." Mellisa puts her hand out and Ian shakes it.

"I am, Ian Graden, the Sergeant of the thirty second squad. It nice to meet you Mellisa."

They shake hands and both give one another a strong grip. They than laugh at out intense the other was being. The two finish shaking hands and go on with their days while waving goodbye. Ian goes into the shower room and Mellisa goes outside to wonder around. She looks around and is impressed by how much they had built around the abandoned military base in under four hours. Mellisa had never stopped to realized how quick they had made the Texan Base before. But, now she is impressed.

Mellisa than gets a call on her intercom from Faris and she answers it despite knowing she will be bossed around.

"Private First Class Wild, I request you don't get comfy. We will be leaving by midnight to go to Arizona."

"I know, Sergeant Major. Can I at least look around?"

Faris nods and Mellisa smiles at him. Faris ends call and Mellisa decides to explore the base.

51 Squad Meeting
Mellisa decides to hang out with her squad mates. She turns on her intercom to get them together and learn more about each other. They all agree and meet up in a private area. Francine goes first beginning by telling the rest squad what she had already told Mellisa before telling them that the reason she has no last name is because he father abandon his family name after a "certain" individual ruined it.

"I'm sorry, Francine." George comforted Francine while patting her back though Francine doesn't seem to care.

"I don't really care. It happened when I was like maybe one month old." Francine chuckled as she pushes away George's hand. "So who is next?" She asks giddy to hear what everyone else's story is. Jacobs raises his hand and everyone leans in to hear about his story.

"For the first six years of my life I had no name and just drifted like a ghost with no goal in life or at least that is what I remember. My memories of what I exactly did during those years...are cloudy." Jacobs struggles to remember with his eyes tearing up. But, he continues on.

"I was taken in by a man of the lord, Father Robert. He gave me a bed, food, a family and hope in his house of god. I felt loved and cherished for the first time in my whole existence." He recalled with a warm smile.

"My name was given to me by Sister Maria, Father Robert's partner. They took me in like a son and taught me everything I know. I started training when I was seventeen in order to follow Father Robert's footsteps. Everything was looking bright until...he came to our home." Jacobs expression sours as he finished his sentence.

"He claimed to have been my father. He abandoned me in a back alley way when I was born so he could live his life unrestrained." Jacobs voice cracks as he recounted what his biological father said to him. Mellisa puts her hand on his shoulder and he continues after clearing his throat. "The old man ill and could barely stand. In his final moments, he begged me to make something of myself and not just waste away in space like he did." Jacobs takes a deep breath, "He died on the floor. Sister Maria comforted and Father Robert went to get help. That is why I am here. I am here to make a name for myself as an ace who assisted Zeon's in its victory on Earth. When this all done I'm returning to Father Robert to continue my training and take over the church for him." Jacobs finishes and everyone gives him words of support. The next person to tell the squad about themselves is Mikey.

"I'm here to avenge my brother who died in the One Week Battle. I went to the Zeon Military Academy and seemingly the only person here who did in this squad. I wanted to be part of a space squad. But, Zeon desperate for forces to send down to Earth sent me here. Personally, I want to finish the war down here as quick as possible and return to space to take on the man who shot down my brother." Mikey finishes and nudges Mars raises his hand to go next

"I guess we are similar than I thought we were, Mikey." Mars claimed.

"What do you mean?" Mikey questioned before Mars begins.

"Well, i'm a farm boy of the Polo Family Farm which is one of the first families to come to Zeon when it was first formed over thirty years ago. But, our lively hood is endanger after the Federation put tariffs on Zeon which paralyzed exporting goods. This has killed over a thousand spacenoids because Zeon's farms were among the only ways some colonies got food and the tariffs prevented supplies we needed to keep our farms going. My father and other representatives went to Granada to be part of negotiations to lift these tariffs and it seemed like it was going to work out." As Mars finishes his sentences both Mellisa and Faris tense up.

"But, a federation ship crashed into the port side and killed him along with all representatives onboard alongside over three hundred other innocent people. The Federation tried to cover it up as a terrorist attack and blamed Zeon agents for it." Jacob lamented. "That is why I am here. To avenge my father and everyone else who died because of the Federation's carelessness."

"I'll go next then since I'm here for the same reason." Mellisa says as she standing up to give her backstory. "My parents were spacenoid right activists who moved to Zeon in order to work directly with the Zeon government. They were also part of those negotiations and...were also killed in that accident." Mellisa stops for a second to think about what to say next before continuing, "I had no one to look after me. The rest of my family were on Earth and my parents' close friends were busy. I was alone, scared, mad and angry. No one was doing anything to help they were just panicking and lying. Every single person I trusted abandoned me. So I ran away and never looked back. I lived on the streets ever since and even formed my own gang, the A-Z Imps, we were the biggest gang of orphans and outcasts on Zeon. We took down those who abused their power such as soldiers extorting citizens for protection money."

"Why did you join the military anyway?" Mikey commented.

"I join for the same reason you and Mars did. To get revenge on the Federation. I left my gang on Zeon and join the military to get a chance to take down the Federation for what they did and I plan on making it happen." Mellisa finishes her story and takes a drink of water glancing at George to continue. George takes a deep breath and begins telling his story.

"I'm sorry, I have no reason to be here unlike any of you. My father forced me to join the military because he wanted me to give back to society. I tried my best to just be a communication officer. But, my piloting skills which were just decent got me to be a Zaku pilot. I hope you guys don't hate me now." George finishes and slouches into his seat worried about the backlash he would get.

"Dude, none of us hate you. But, I just want to know if you want to survive." Mars says consoling George.

"Yeah, do you want to live?" Mellisa asks concerned. George thinks for a bit and sits up straight before responding.

"I want to live. I want to survive. But, I don't know if I will. What can I do to make sure I will live?"
