Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse.
As the night grew long and the moon shined bright, one girl was awakened by the ratatatat on a door leading to the crisp outside.
With a light groan, the blue haired girl stumbled out of her bed and opened the door. "Hong what… is…"
She blinked, blue eyes staring at the magnificent sight before her eyes. For who was in front of her was none other then the good old saint Nick.
"What the hell is this." Lan let out, "Hong what the fuck."
Tonight's Santa twirled around in her new Santa-garb, a sack on her back and twintails dangling in the wind. "Lan you got to help me."
"...Alright explain."
"I defeated Penguin Guildy and got the power of Christmas." She cheerfully explained, "Now I can do anything as long as it's related to christmas."
"Any- GAH!" Lan reached for her hair that was now in twintails, "What the-?!"
"On that note," Santa reached into her sack, "Merry Christmas!"
Lan hesitantly reached out and grabbed the present. "Hong you realize it's not even christmas right?"
It's a shame, children are believing in christmas magic less and less these days…
"The power of christmas is taking over me!" The red haired girl waved her hands in the air, "It's even taken over the narrator! You can't trust it anymore!"
"Aren't you usually the narrator through?!"
"It's a non-canon omake don't question it!" Santa grabbed her friend's waist, "I've been stuck like this for six hours!"
"Six hours!?"
"You gotta help me!" She held up the sack, "The only way I can go back to normal is if I give away all these presents!"
Lan pinched her nose, "And you can't just give them away… why?"
"Are you kidding?! Each present is filled with love and care! They need to go to who they belong to!" Santa held a hand on her hips, "Lan you gotta come with me to save christmas!"
"Save christmas from what?!"
"I don't know!"
"It's a holiday you can't kill it!"
"Just come with me?!" In a moment of horror Santa stared up at her friend teary-eyed. "I can't be stuck like this forever! Twirl would laugh at me until I die and then probably after that!"
The cold winter night wrapped the two in it's embraced before Lan's heart warmed up and she sighed, "Alright fine! But I'm not wearing a santa outfit!"
Santa hissed.
"I already am aren't I?"
"Yeah-"
"J-Just go."
And so the two partners jumped off and flew into the night. On a mission to bring christmas cheer to the hearts of children all around the world.
The snow that night never looked as dazzling as it did right then.
Emu Huang was cold.
She'd have to adjust the AC later but right now she had paperwork to do.
Or would do, if two familiar looking girls didn't suddenly come tumbling down a chimney she was certain didn't exist one second ago.
Santa and her help jumped up to their feet and brushed dirt off their outfits. The two girls looked at each other before turning to Emu with a smile so bright she'd have thought she was looking at the stars. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MISS HUANG!"
The blue haired helper paused before a highly disturbed look appeared on her face and she shivered.
"Merry… Christmas?" Emu tilt her head confusedly, "I was not aware it was that time of year already."
She'd have set some her mall chains to start going on sale if it was. And probably invested in some new christmas merchandise…
"It's not. Hong's stuck as Santa until we deliver these presents." Lan grabbed the sack and pulled out a box before placing it on the table. "Here you go. Merry christmas~"
"Yes you already said that."
"It's Christmas Magic." Santa explained. "We have to say Merry Christmas whenever we're giving a gift."
"That sounds like a Christmas Curse."
"Magic is good and bad you know."
"I see." Emu gingerly opened the gift wrapped present before gasping. "Oh my~.
"A whip?!" Lan glanced at Hong. "Why did a whip come out!?"
"I don't knoooow!" Santa cried, tears threatening to spill out of her eyes as she panicked. "The gift sack automatically generates the perfect christmas gift! I don't control what comes out!"
"Relax," Emu glanced at the pair impishly, "You'll find out what it's used for once you're older."
"Hong?"
"Yes Lan?"
"Let's get out of here."
"Yepyepyep!"
Sitting alone in the dark on this fateful night was Dark Grasper. The blinds on her windows blocked the outside world from shining in and the only light she could see was the artificial glow of her monitors.
If the fans of "Anko" could see her now then they'd be shocked. Far from the idol they had grown used to, Dark Grasper currently looked like the epitome of a slob. Bags under her eyes, wearing a tracksuit and laughing over some video games like a creep.
Of course, this was an entirely calculated move. While she knew the perfect way to accentuate her natural charm, she found it relaxing to cut loose and act like this. Indeed, if one were to actually look at her room they'd find it completely trash free and perfectly organized.
It was quite a shame how the other wise beautiful room was marred by her mere existence.
But it was on this christmas evening that a notification dinged on her computer. With a sigh, she paused the dating sim she was playing and clicked open the alert only for her eyes to sparkle to see who it was from.
Santa had replied!
Magical Girl Tail Red: Check under your desk.
She paused, and for once in her life she could not understand what that meant.
Dark Grasper: Huh?
Magical Girl Tail Red: Under your desk.
Hesitantly, she adjusted her glasses before looking under her computer desk and pulling out a small box with a post card that read "Merry Christmas!"
Grasper's mind whirled with calculations as she tried to figure out just how Santa managed to get a present under her desk. Teleportation? No.
The numbers flew by right in front of her eyes before she growled in frustration and slammed her fingers on the keyboard.
Dark Grasper: HOW?!
Magical Girl Tail Red: Christmas Magic.
...Grasper factored Christmas Magic into her equations. Somehow, that actually worked.
She just didn't know what the fuck Christmas Magic was.
Dark Grasper: It's not even Christmas!
Magical Girl Tail Red: I gained the power of the Christmas affinity after defeating Penguin Guildy. Merry Christmas!
Eh? But…
Dark Grasper: There isn't a Penguin Guildy though?
Magical Girl Tail Red: Oh gotta go! I have to deliver my next present! Bye!
The minutes passed and the clocks ticked but Santa didn't reply back.
Sighing she cautiously opened up the box only to find a pair of glasses lying inside. But not just any pair of glasses, no..
These were an exact replica of the glasses used in Magical Sakura! The first dating sim to ever touch her heart! The ones wore by her favorite character Mei!
How?! The company declared bankruptcy shortly after! They couldn't even make any merchandise!
Hands trembling, she grabbed the glasses and swapped her current pair.
"Oh," Grasper sighed, "Well I don't know how he did it but these are quite nice."
Idly she wondered where Santa would go next as she opened the dating sim back up again.
It was a usual night for Grasper that night, save for the small smile on her face.
It was on a warm evening that a pair of twins sat on top of the outer wall, looking down at the landscape far below. With their city afloat and them capable of flight, it was unnecessary to worry.
Yet neither of them spoke, and no one else was with them for the time being; they had retreated from their friends to think, not paying much mind to the wind.
Their silent contemplation was interrupted when they heard the bells however, and saw a sleigh rolling in from mid-air; it was drawn by reindeers of all things, conjuring images of stories their mother had told them in the past.
Only that this was not the time; they knew, she knew that there were still months to go until her birthday in December.
Out of the sleigh hopped two girls, one of them looking about as old as them, maybe younger. The other was much older, and they had a red and blue theme going. With them came the scent of candles and cookies. "Merry Christmas!" they called out to the twins, who blinked at them in perfect sync.
"But," one started, only for the other to finish: "it's summer."
"Look, don't question it, okay?" The blue-haired girl appeared exasperated and not in the mood to argue; then she began looking around and did a double-take. "Wait, what? Where are we? Hong?!"
"Uh…" The redhead carefully walked over to look down the edge, and quickly shied back. "Gah, I didn't think it was that high!"
"You… just came in on a sleigh."
"Whatever, here is your present...s? Nope, only one. Weird." The older girl quickly handed them a box. "I thought each of you got one. Merry Christmas!"
""Why thank you,"" the twins told her as one, as they were one. The present even had their union's name noted, Priscilla. Even if it was weird and not the season for Christmas, they would never say no to a present.
While one twin began to open the box, the other beamed up at Santa and her helper, making them appear slightly uncomfortable with her joy. The helper more so than Santa, who just beamed back while imagining how the longer-haired twin would look if her hair was done in twintails.
"Ohhhh!" For some reason, it was the girl not looking into the box to make the sound; though both were soon crowded around it. Before the Christmas duo's eyes, they turned the box upside down and emptied a veritable flood of sweets onto the street; all of it packaged and looking oh so delicious.
"This is great, and so much!" "And we can share with everyone!" Both girls looked around all the things once the flood was over, and beamed at Santa again. "Thank you!"
Then one actually picked up a package and held it out to them. "Here, you take one, too." At first the helper wanted to decline, but the sweets were already pushed into her hands. "It's not really Christmas if you can't share with everyone."
"...Fine." Then, despite her better judgement, Lan ruffled the girl's hair. "Thanks. Merry Christmas, kid."
"Merry Christmas to you too, miss. Goodbye!"
But they had already mounted their sleigh again and were leaving; the twins looked at each other, then down at the scattered treats. Now they had to figure out how to carry all these things.
Summit slumped on a pile of broken rocks, her energy having been drained by recent exertions.
"I think we lost them." Primary Wiccan muttered softly as she watched her broom spin in the air above her, "And I've seen Hood get away from much bigger monsters, I'm sure she'll be fine."
"Please try not to think of your jungle right now."
"Sorry, just watching the spinning, yes."
"I'll work on getting us a way home soon, but I need a few minutes and want to give Hood a chance to catch up with us." Summit declared without moving from her spot.
The moment of rest halted as a pair of thre-figures appeared. A girl with red hair in two side ponytails and a santa outfit (Hope, Christmas, Story-Maker), and a young woman with red hair and matching hairstyle and outfit (Transience, Schema, Legend-Maker). Summit re-checked her surroundings. Everything seemed to be real as opposed to Wiccan's eerie landscape, but two Magical Girls playing santa stood out like a magnesium flare.
"Merry Christmas!" shouted Wiccan with a delighted smile.
"Merry Christmas!" "Merry Christmas." replied the girls with different degrees of enthusiasm.
Summit felt the need to protest, "Christmas was a while ago."
"Shoot, I was hoping I was on time for once. Hang on, I've got a late present in here." The red girl pulled a sack off her shoulder and started searching through it.
"Please play along, it's easier that way." The blue girl explained.
Summit Shifted so that she could see hands. And noted that the inside of the, sigh, Christmas sack was very dark and the blue girl had quick reactions.
A moment later Red pulled out a brown box with red and gold ribbons decorating it. And no apparent magic. "Merry Christmas!"
"Ooh! How did you get that? Those are my favorites but the company was destroyed a few years ago." Wiccan beamed.
"Christmas magic." Blue said very quickly.
"How did you get-?" Summit started to ask.
"Christmas Magic." she repeated while altering her stance slightly.
The red girl tossed the box of chocolates over to Wiccan and started shaking her sack as if to dislodge something. The sack which appeared to be empty until something metallic (Machine) fell out of it. "Merry Christmas!"
The object twisted in mid-air to land on its feet and looked up at Summit with large glowing eyes. A tag attached to its neck read 'to Anna Sanchez' in faintly glowing letters. The mechanical cat meowed softly.
"Wiccan, are you sure this isn't you?" Summit asked incredulously.
"This is better than I could have imagined! Thank you both so much! Merry Christmas to all!" Primary Wiccan bounced in place with glee.
The blue girl gave a wary look at Summit and the metal cat.
"Right, I think that's out cue Hong."
The red girl, Santa was it? Gestured at Summit, "Your pet looks lonely. You should give her a hug."
Summit just looked at her with a perplexed face. The blue-haired santa-costumed Magical Girl sighed.
"Cue. Now." With a leap she smoothly grabbed Santa by the arm and carried her along a jump into a sleigh that hadn't been there when she started moving.
Summit tried to freeze the space around the pair, she wasn't sure herself whether it was from wanting answers or worrying about threats, but they were gone before even her reflexes could catch up. Something rubbed up against her leg and mewed softly.
She appraised the creature, automaton? It was quite light when she picked it up, unlikely to be threatening to anyone. It let out a contented purr as she held it with one hand and ran the other across its back. This let her know that there was minimal free space within.
"We should leave these items here. They might be-"
"What! You can't have Santa hand out traps. That's not done. And your poor cat will rust if you leave her in the dark. Have you no heart?" Wiccan said sharply.
The mechanical cat blinks, closes its eyes as it stretches while on Summit's arm, and purrs again. Summit hesitates before petting it softly.
"I should keep an eye on it, make sure it doesn't cause trouble." she said mechanically while stroking her new pet.
"Very well then, kneel and pledge your loya-"
The Duke of Hell's sentence was interrupted by the wall of the room exploding as a bright red sleigh crashed through it and careened across the grand hall, coming to a stop with a bang as it left a dent in the opposite wall.
"Dammit Hong! Why didn't you avoid the wall?!"
"I don't know how to drive this thing! The reindeer are on autopilot!"
"Ahem." Dragul coughed lightly to gather the attention of the two young girls sitting within the vehicle. The pair looked up from their bickering and he smiled as they froze beneath the predatory gazes of the room's occupants. "Might I enquire as to your purpose within my domain?"
"We're here to spread Christmas Cheer!" declared the younger redheaded girl, recovering her composure. Her older companion remained silent, eyes flitting about the room as she assessed the position and threat levels of those around her.
"Indeed? You weren't expected for another month or two at the least, we still have plenty of coal for the furnaces."
"Early again? Darn." The smaller girl pouted for a moment, before shrugging and pulling a present out of the large sack she held. With a cry of "Merry Christmas!", she handed it to the nearest person. The tall, imposing woman accepted the box with a bemused expression.
"Merry Christmas!" the girl said again, approaching another of the Blood Count's courtiers with gift extended. The large demon eyed the tiny girl and her proffered package warily, as though they were a snake of unknown temperament. The man opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off by a squeal of delight, all eyes turning to the source as Conquest Drive hugged the massive, fluffy purple teddy-bear.
"I love it!" the normally menacing magical girl declared, "Thank you!"
"All in a day's work!" the redhead responded cheerfully, before turning back to distributing presents. Dragul and the girl's blue haired companion (guardian?) watched carefully as she made her rounds, before finally stopping in front of the Duke's throne and holding out a package for him. "Merry Christmas!"
Politely accepting to small box, Dragul undid the ribbon holding it closed and lifted the lid to peer within. The contents elicited a small chuckle, and one side of his mouth quirked up in a smile as he replaced the lid and settled the package gently on the arm of his throne. "Your gifts are pleasing to me, child. Go about your business, and know that you will not be pursued until you leave my territory."
"Thanks old man!" the girl said, hopping back into her sleigh and earning a sharp elbow to the ribs from her minder. "Ow… Merry Christmas!"
Dragul watched the pair as they left through the same hole they came buy, eyes remaining locked on them until they faded into the distance. Finally, he turned his attention back to his newest… initiate. "Now then," he spoke, interrupting the girl's cuddling of her toy, "where were we?"
"-And that's it for today." Gaia declared as she looked at the table. "Sorry but we're going to have to cut the session short."
"Alright Mother." Hero stretched her arms with a yawn, "Was getting a bit tired anyways."
"I know." The planet idly pulled a seed out of her pocket and tossed it in the corner of the room. She glanced at her watch, "They should be arriving any minute now."
The seed hit the floor with a slight thud before it began to grow and grow, taking root where the boards of the house once were and becoming a mighty christmas tree.
Hero WEAPON glanced at Gaia, "Alright mother, what's going on?"
"Don't you know sweety?" The avatar of the planet smiled, "It's christmas!"
"No. It's not." The blonde girl crossed her arms, "It's Spring."
"Well tell that to Santa."
"What Santa-"
"MERRY CHRISTMAS!" Two voices yelled as out from under the pine tree, which was suddenly decorated with christmas ornaments that weren't there minutes before, a pair of girls popped out. One a kid with red hair and the other a teen with blue hair, both wearing santa outfits.
"Merry Christmas you two." Gaia smiled sweetly.
The red haired girl glanced at the Christmas tree before gasping. "Did we do it?! Did we actually manage to arrive for Christmas!?"
Hero's jaw dropped open and she struggled to find the words for the absurdity before her. In the end, as her mind began to blank out, only two words left her mouth. "It's… Spring…"
"Oh." Santa's smile dropped, "Drat."
"I still can't believe this 'Christmas Magic' won't let us swear." The blue haired one grumbled.
"Well you see Lan, Christmas has to be family friendly." Gaia nodded, "That's just how it is in America… Hong was it?"
"That's my name." The red haired one nodded before reaching out into her sack. "Merry Christmas! Here's your present miss... "
She glanced at the box, "Gaia?"
"That's my name." The planet cheekily smiled, knowing full well what she was doing. "Maybe you've heard of it?"
The two Santa's looked at each other before shrugging in unison. "Nope." "Not ringing any bells."
"Well you'll know soon enough." She took the present, "I've known about you two for a while though. I guess you could consider me your fairy godmother Hong?"
"I already have a Godmother though." The red haired girl protested.
Gaia sighed before opening up the present, "Oh my! DnD Twelfth Edition!"
"It's not even past five!" Hero shouted, finally coming back to reality and grabbing the rulebook from Gaia's hands. "What the- How?!"
"DnD Twelfth Edition was such an important landmark for the series." Gaia smiled, "Ah I've wanted to GM this for so long but I couldn't… Well, I suppose I can chalk this up to christmas magic."
"Yep." The blue haired girl nodded in resignation before reaching into the bag and pulling out Hero's present. "Merry Christmas."
It was an egg.
"What is this." The blonde haired girl examined the egg.
"I don't know."
"How do you not know what this is-"
"It's a present granting bag. Christmas magic. Just take it."
"Well, it was nice to see you two." The planet pointed towards the tree, "But I think it's about time you two get going."
"Ah, thanks Miss Gaia!" Santa nodded before grabbing her helper by the hand. "Come on Lan let's go!"
"Alright alright you don't have to pull me!"
And then, right before their eyes, the two jumped beneath the christmas tree and vanished.
Hero blinked, rubbing her eyes before staring at the egg in her hand. "Weird girls."
"Girl and boy."
"What?"
"Hong's a guy." Gaia nodded, "I think."
"Huh."
Idly Hero noted that the christmas tree had lost their ornaments once the two disappeared.
It is hard to put into words just what the body of the universe, Cosmos, and her lover Void, the existence of nothing do to each other through all of eternity and then some but if one tried in that moment in time it would read something like this.
[LOVE]
[LOVE]
[LOVE/JOY]
[LOVE/JOY]
"MERRY CHRISTMAS!" Yelled two girls in santa outfits that not even Void could tell where they came from.
[CONFUSION]
[SURPRISE]
"What'd they say Lan?"
"I don't speak concepts Hong but I think they're surprised and confused."
[AGITATION]
"Hong I think the abyss is getting angry at us."
"Woah calm down! I come bearing presents!" The red haired girl opened a sack and pulled out a box that was not a box. "MERRY CHRISTMAS! Oh this is giving me a headache."
[CONFUSION/HESITATION]
"It's a gift! Open it!"
[RELUCTANCE]
Santa sighed before yelling with all her might "[CHRISTMAS]!"
For a moment all of existence seemed to tremble as the universe and nothing jumped up in surprise. Slowly they looked at each other and opened the box that was not a box.
Suddenly, if seen by mortal eyes, they spontaneously gained Santa outfits just like the two Santa and her helper wore.
And it was at that moment did they truly understand [CHRISTMAS] and the joy of giving gifts.
"Alright time to go." The blue haired helper declared, "I don't want to stick around. This is giving me a headache anyways."
"What wh-"
Cosmos and Void stared at each other before licking their lips.
"Oh." Santa let out. "Yeah let's go."
Yuan Ling sighed as she ate a bag of potato chips. Hong had come home in a rush today and hadn't come out of his room since.
Well, officially that is. Of course she could hear him opening the door and jumping over to Lan's house. What the two were up to this late at night she didn't know but they were bringing back memories.
Suddenly, a knock at the door caught her attention. Slowly she placed the bag down and opened the door in surprise. Well, here was a sight she never thought she'd see.
"Merry Christmas." Lan and Santa looked down, their faces clearly burning red with shame. "I-It's a long story."
"Oh? Did you finally gain an interest in cosplay?" Santa looked at her mother in a panic, "I must say that I have waited for this day for ages. Though I didn't expect it to be like this…"
"N-No! That is!" Her son waved her hands, "We're just trying to save christmas!"
"Oh? And you already have a scenario?"
"AUGH!" Santa grabbed a box and shoved it into Yuan's hands. "Merry Christmas! Love you talk to you later!"
And with that Santa grabbed the door handle and slammed the door closed. Blinking before chuckling to herself. Ah, to be young again.
No wonder her own mother loved teasing her so much.
Walking back to the living room, she carefully opened the present before gasping.
It should've been impossible, but sitting in the box was an almost perfect replica of the red ranger helmet that her late husband wore back in high school. Sure it was nothing much, not even made of plastic, but it brought back memories.
With a sigh she walked over to the stairs of her house and into the dusty attic that she hadn't been to in years. Carefully, she searched for the right place before placing the helmet next to a much tattered version of it and a pink helmet in the same condition.
Yuan didn't know what happened to the rest of the ranger helmets, she didn't think it was right to ask about that sort of thing. Maybe they were kept as a reminder of days long forgotten or maybe they were just destroyed out of embarrassment.
Either way, with a sad smile she walked down the stairs and closed the door to the attic.
Once again hoping she'd never have to go in again.
Outside of Santa's house the two miracle workers stood, still embarrassed about what just occurred. Silently, Santa's Helper reached over to the bag.
"Well." She sighed as she checked the bag. "That's everyone."
"Eh?" Santa asked, "Really?"
"Yep. Bag's empty." The blue haired girl flipped over the bag only for nothing to come out. "That's everyone."
"Oh thank god." Santa fell to the ground in relief, "I don't have to give one to Twirl."
"You think she just got coal in her stockings?"
"What? I don't think Twirl has done anything to piss off the demons."
"Well," Lan laughed, "I wouldn't be surprised."
And all through the night the two laughed jolly for the joys of all the children to hear.
THE END.
...The laughter died down.
"Lan?"
"Yeah?"
"I still haven't changed back."
"I can see that." The blue haired girl held a hand to her head. "You're sure you gave presents to everyone?"
"Yes."
"And there isn't some hidden condition like they all have to open it right?"
"Pretty sure they all opened… It…" Santa turned to face her helper. "You!"
"Me?!"
"You were the first person I gave a present to!" The red haired girl panicked, "You didn't open it!"
The blue haired girl's eyes went wide, "Oh! That's right!"
"Quick! We should still have some time before the sun rises!"
"Since when was there some arbitrary timer like that?!"
"Have you never watched a christmas movie?!"
"I'm pretty sure you haven't either!"
"Whatever just let me get your present!" Santa yelled as she dashed towards her friend's house.
Standing on the road outside the house watching Santa scramble to get her present, a strange feeling gripped Lan's heart. It grew more and more with each step Santa took towards her door before she finally had the courage to voice it out.
"Hong wait!" She shouted, causing the red haired girl to freeze. Slowly, each step pattering in her ear, she walked towards Santa. "The present… It's supposed to be the perfect gift right?"
"Yeah?" Santa blinked, "Why?"
"Would it… Disappear if you turned back before I opened it?"
The red haired girl tilted her head before nodding, "Well I can't turn back if you don't open it but I'm pretty sure it would. Why?"
"Well, you see…" The girl fiddled with her hands, her cheeks red hot as she nervously approached her partner for the evening. "I was just thinking…"
"Thinking?"
"Maybe…" She struggled to get the words out. "Maybe I don't need that gift."
"Eh?" Santa blinked, "What do you mean by tha-"
In a sudden move, her helper grabbed her up and kissed her on the cheek. On the cold christmas morning, Santa began to glow in a burst of light sparkles bursting around her as she slowly began to transform.
Eventually, Lan found herself staring at a much more familiar and welcome pair of eyes.
"...How'd you know that would work?" Hong asked, slowly touching his cheek.
"Hm," She tilted her head before winking. "Christmas Magic?"
