Well guys, it's Valentines Day, and as is apparently tradition now, I wrote another Sosuke in Halkegenia snip, hope you enjoy.
Louise looked out at the twin moons from the ruined balcony. Behind her, what remained of Warde's home slowly crumbled.
Had it really only been a day ago she looked forward to marrying that man?
Had it really only been half a day since Sosuke had slammed through a wall into her room to rescue her?
Had it really only been a few hours since the two of them fought through Warde's personal troops to stop Wardes himself?
Louise feels the exhaustion of casting seep into her bones and she realized that yes it had.
Wardes had just been using her to get to the Princess, that thought filled her with shame and sorrow.
She had honestly, believed that Wardes...loved her.
The critical part of herself that sounded way too much like Eleanor noted how unlikely that was.
Turning to look at her savior and...closest friend, Louise says with a wistful air.
"He never did love me did he Mr. Sosuke?"
Sosuke nods
"No probably not Louise-sama."
Sosuke was not great at this comforting thing Louise decided.
Bitterness seeped into her voice she mutters.
"You must think me a fool."
Sosuke shifts slightly before answering.
"No I think of you as honourable."
Louise blinks in surprise.
"Eh?"
Sosuke looks up at the two moons orbiting the night sky.
After a moment he says.
"In my homeland, there is a belief that love is dangerous, that it makes you forsake your duty and honour."
Louise takes a moment to process that.
"So when I..."
Stabbed Wardes in the face with a wooden stake. Is the unfinished statement. It hadn't worked, but Louise was not a woman given to half measures when her ire was roused. Louise was also of the opinion that lightning clones were cheating in a fight.
The large man gives a soft look.
"When you chose your duty over the love you had, it was inspiring, for a gaijin."
She inspired him, Louise perversely felt a little proud of that. Even if he was a crazy barbarian foreigner whose idea of defending her had included laying out every single person who made fun of her in class. Mother had been less than happy with that one...
Less than happy indeed.
The memory fades and the ache inside Louise comes back.
"It still hurts" she says quietly.
Sosuke scratches the back of his head.
"I'm not, good with this sort of thing, but shouldn't it?"
The small mage thinks about that for a moment. True, what kind of heartless bitch wouldn't feel pain after finding out that the person they honestly loved was a traitor and had to fight them?
Maybe that Crumbling Earth woman.
Letting out a sigh she says.
"That's...true I guess, but I don't want it to."
Sosuke says simply.
"No one does."
The pair lapse into silence for a time, just letting the moonlight bathe them both in a quiet peace born of a very long day.
Louise again breaks it.
"I'm such a fool"
Sosuke tilts his head down towards her.
"Louise-sama?"
With a mocking scorn she explains.
"I am a mage who can only make explosions. How many men would want that?"
Sosuke shifts slightly and meets Louise's eyes with his own. Behind those dark orbs a myriad of thoughts pass, before Sosuke says simply.
"I would."
Louise blinks, she hadn't expected that.
"What?" is out of her mouth before she can stop it.
Sosuke goes a little red in embarrassment but presses forward.
"I would enjoy marriage to a woman who is capable with creating explosions, given the nature of my life, someone who can stand beside me in battle is...preferable."
Wryly the petite mage says.
"So just for the explosions then?"
Sosuke goes a little redder, he really doesn't want to do this, but...well it's her call as his superior in this land isn't it?
"Louise-sama, this is improper, but if you demand I answer honestly, I will obey."
Curious Louise nods.
"I do"
With a deep breath the Hiruma answers.
"Louise-sama, is gaijin it is true, but she carries herself with pride and honour, she is not Samurai, but were she, I believe that only a fool would not contact the nakado to arrange the marriage between him and her. Louise-sama is strong, and even if tiny...cute when she smiles"
Sosuke blushes at the last part.
Louise looks down at her dress, her face redder than a tomato.
"I...thank you Mr. Sosuke."
Sosuke looks back at the moons.
"It was by your command."
After a few minutes for them both to get over their mutual embarrassment. Louise again takes the initiative.
"So to find someone who wants me for me. I just have to go to your homeland and become a Samurai."
Sosuke decides tactfully not to say that it is kind of impossible without killing a lot of goblins.
"...something like that."
With an irritated grunt, Louise waves her arm in front of her face, as if dismissing a terrible thing from her sight.
"Impossible. I am a de Valliere, to the day I die, and I will never abandon my family."
Sosuke lets himself smile inside.
"Louise-sama, if you could, you wouldn't be someone I am proud to stand beside."
Louise gives a soft smile.
"Thank you Mr. Sosuke..."
As her eyes droop close, Louise finds herself leaning into the warmth of her companion. It was..pleasant, a distant part of her notes, to just be near someone who liked her for her.
As a meaty arm drapes across her shoulders and covers her in warmth, Louise's last thoughts are a simple.
'I wanted this'
Sosuke again looks at the small shugenja nestled into his side, it is by any stretch inappropriate to be holding her like this. Yet, given all that had happened, Sosuke found that he did not really care that much.
"Sleep well Louise-sama."
And so the Crab kept his silent vigil over his summoner, and resolutely ignored the redness on his cheeks, just exhaustion nothing more.
High in the sky, out of their sight line. Kirche von Zebrast looks down at the two on the back of Tabitha's dragon.
"Tabitha dear?"
The blue haired mage tilts her head towards her friend.
"We are going to get those two together."
Tabitha turns the page of her book and gives the slightest nod.

Yes but Duty means that eventually, Sosuke has to go back.
Hopefully he then gets assigned as a diplomat back to Halk.
There are many duties, all important. It's no shame to do a duty that would make you happier over one that wouldn't.

Have you been taking notes from Harouki? Or do all QMs feed at least in part from the tears of the players?
